Hey guys welcome back to my channel! If you follow me outside of youtube you may have noticed that in the past few months I've been talking a lot about early Justin Bieber and that's because I've been taking a bit of a walk down memory lane when it comes to the height of the bieber fever craze back in the 2010's! While I wouldn't consider myself to be a belieber, I think it was impossible for anyone to escape watching justin's career back then from the sidelines considering he was EVERYWHERE whether that was a good or bad thing. So I thought it would be fun to look into the rise of one of Canada's biggest pop stars and all the drama that came with it. I think Justin is an especially interesting person to look into considering just how long and varied his career has been both music and mess-wise.

The male hate towards "feminine looking" male artists, specially during the 2000s and 2010s is a fascinating phenomenon to me, I personally think that a lot of it has to do with the dissonance between what men are told by other men what womem like and seeing actually what women like, so they lash out not at that system of perfomative masculinity, but at hte men who don't specifically fit it and the women that like them. But that is just my opinion :3

It’s still a thing. Look at how tons of men react to girls liking kpop boy groups, who don’t generally fit the western idea of masculinity. Men continue to hate and mock things associated with women and femininity, and anything that teenage girls are into. It’s so fucking tiring.

My cousin used to be big into JB (I guess you could say she had beaver fever or whatever), and as a child our favourite movie was Another Cinderella Story starring Selena Gomez (the superior version argue with the wall)- we used to watch it every time she came to my house. When their relationship was announced, she was inconsolable. She wouldn’t touch that movie, or any other selener-related media with a 10-foot Bieber body pillow. Nothing was more serious to this 13 year old girl. Now whenever I see fans getting angry or upset about their favs dating, I just imagine them as a preteen sitting in their room, parasocially crying to a guy with a bowlcut singing about babies and scratching crosses over the eyes of Alex Russo from wizards of Waverley place and I just can’t take them seriously.

Honestly I can’t help but root for Justin. He had to go through so much bs when he was so young. Grown adults we’re spewing such hatred and violence towards him, he was constantly sexually harassed, and his team clearly has never cared about his well-being other than how they can make as much money out of him as possible. The hate towards him is also extended to his personal relationships - Hailey didn’t deserve the public smear campaign earlier this year over his ex girlfriend (who he clearly has moved on from over 5 years ago, so idk why random losers can’t get over it). Child stars have always had it rough, but what Justin went through was on a whole other level. (Of course this doesn’t excuse the bad/questionable things he’s done)

He apologized for said remarks and hasn’t repeated that type of behaviour. Also the hate he received back then had nothing to do with that and everything to do with being a so called “feminine” teenage boy with millions of female fans.

I can't believe I used to fight in school halls with most of the boys who called Justin Bieber "a girl" because of his then high pitched voice. It was all-out war between me, the rest of the Belieber girls and the boys who even dared to utter anything bad about him. Not to mention how I literally made this ridiculous choreography for the school play using "Baby" and again FOUGHT "ferociously" with another group of girls who wanted to use the same song in their own choreography. Not to mention the time I cried when my mum bought his book for me, a book consisting only of pictures and a few paragraphs that I still own to this very day. Oh and not to forget the countless Facebook pages me and my then friends made about him, posting pictures of him, previously edited on blingee or piZap. Ugh I still cringe thinking about those days. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Watching Justin go from RUclips to music icon has been a wild ride and nothing short of amazing. His story is a stark reminder that if you're in pursuit of true happiness, fame and fortune might be counterproductive. I'm just glad he's found peace and is living his life to the fullest now 😊
Justin Bieber sure has gone out of his way to be successful. He's had a lot of controversies, as any celebrity would endure, and yet he still continues to accelerate his relevancy in the modern day music industry.
hate to say it, but that's also due to the fact that he's a man and his fan base simply sweeps his mistakes under the rug because he's cute. female artists wouldn't survive those kinds of controversies.

That is true. But it’s because of his popularity and there’s no denying that. I for one will not forget those controversies that should not be forgotten like they have been. If any other celebrity says the n word and makes racist jokes they are “cancelled” and have their career ruined, but Justin is this “cute boy” so he dodged that. I’m not black so I can’t speak for the black community if they are still offended or not, but we shouldn’t forget ALL of those controversies.

I feel SO bad for younger Justin. The thing about the Anne Frank museum situation is that if his wording had been different, he could’ve gotten away with it relatively unscathed. Obviously time and place but he just couldn’t have worded it worse.
He was tone deaf af but around that time no matter what he wrote it would have been spinned to hate on him.
Fun fact about the OLLG tradition you talk about in 9:03 Michael Jackson did the same thing for THREE TOURS (the songs being She's Out Of My Life for Bad tour and Dangerous tour, then You Are Not Alone for HIStory tour), in MJ's case, he would hug the woman as he sang (of course, the women would cling themselves to him and would be peeled off by security 😭), as Justin in his early days said he was really influenced by MJ, the dynamic might've been inspired and come from that reference (it's iconic Justin gave them flowers to the girls btw)

The fact that his last era/album had 3 songs hit 1 billion streams in less than a year (peaches, stay, ghost) shows his longevity. Despite so many people hating him he’s still at the top.
His longevity and sustained success is undeniable. Idk why so many people act like he fell off. Justice era was huge and Justin even with no new music in years is one of the biggest artists on the planet

I went to a Justin Bieber concert in 2022 with my 38/40 year old brothers, and was shocked at how many songs I actually knew. Also that man is such an incredible performer, the entire show was so well done. I've never been a fan or followed his music but I think anyone would have a good time at a jb show. Also he performed baby which he absolutely did not have to do and I was shocked and I'm so grateful
my best friend was a hugeee belieber fan since he came out, so he was a big part of her childhood and how she connected with some of her closest friends growing up. she loved him so much but she just died recently. i never cared much for him but watching this made me think about her and the life she lived, so thank you for this great video :) she would have loved it too, now there's one less lonely girl :,)
My most distinct Bieber-lore memory was that whole thing with Anne Frank which by the way, I thought was NOT as bad as some people made it out to be. A little self absorbed? I was a major belieber from 2010-2013. I got to see him in 2012. It was amazing. Just at the beginning of this month, I went back & listened to his older music and DANG it still slaps. Also I cannot find the French version of One Less Lonely Girl on Spotify 😭 maybe it’s because I don’t live in Canada?? I have no idea but there’s no Canadian version of My World on my spotify

the way you mentioned the purple sweatshirt literally unearthed a memory from 2011 for me. i was in 6th grade and i had this english/creative writing class. one of the projects we were assigned was to put a presentation together of someone you thought was important. there was this girl who was a HUGE belieber in my class and she didn't hide it at all. her whole presentation was on justin bieber and she made it a point why he was so important. i remember even one of the major facts she listed being "justin's favorite color is purple". i was a contrarian in middle school so i hated him but man was she right about him being an influential pop star.

Still a massive achievement. Justin Bieber at the time was 16 and appealed to teenage girls only. Taylor Swift is a grown 33 year old woman who appeals to everyone of all ages. The fact that she will only just beat him, and that movie tickets are like 5x as expensive now as they were back then is a testament to how massive of a celebrity he is.
As someone who could never convince my mom to buy me music, I find this stuff fascinating. I was very much in my “not like other girls” phase so I knew nothing of the fandom drama either. People lament how we’re not going to get these mega-famous musicians like MJ anymore, and that’s probably for the best.

We just never bought a lot of music for one reason or another. I remember we had a Mariah Carey CD and a couple soundtracks. But we didn’t have anything to play physical music on after I was 8. Our cd player broke and we never replaced it.
I couldn’t buy digitally when I got my first smartphone either because my mom didn’t want me having her card number saved on my phone. So the only ways I could listen to music legally were RUclips, Spotify with ads, Pandora, and the radio.

imagine receiving massive hate by the whole world, including adults, at 15. FIFTEEN. he was only a talented kid that came from nothing but millions of people decided to make fun of him, saying the most misogynistic and homophobic stuff to him, sending him death threats every single day, creating rumors about him, stalking him and on top of that he had to deal with pedos saying disgusting stuff to him in interviews and being sexually assaulted both in private and on national television and nobody questioned it, nobody stood up for him very few people defended him. he has been through a lot and i’m so glad he got out of that toxic lifestyle and is now in peace with himself.

Been a Belieber since the beginning and still continue to be. I remembered watching the My World 2.0 Documentary multiple times when I was younger, wanting his perfume, getting mad at my cousins for getting tickets to his show and not inviting me. I’m now 22 and still love this kid. I admire his journey and how much he went through and still manages to be a stand up human. Forever one of my idols

I was a bit too old for Bieber Fever, but even at the time - as a slightly-older-than-him teen - it seemed obvious that there was something really weird about how adults reacted (positively AND negatively) to a kid who got stage-mommed into fame at the age of like 14. Like, how are you going to have a remotely normal/healthy adolescence under those conditions?
As a man that pretended to hate this guy in my teen years, this man is an icon. Dude had such a hard time as a literal child, most of his controversies was before he was old enough to even drink. having to do a redemption album at like 21 is crazy but for his career to still be going strong over a decade later is super impressive. Respect to the Bieber he's that guy.

I was a tween at his peak. I loved him cuz everyone else did. I had no idea about all the internet shit so this video really helped me understand why JB was so incredibly popular and loved. He was genuinely such a sweet kid. Makes it even sadder about his previous few years.
What’s sad about his previous few years? His last album was massive, he made the biggest hit of the decade and was on a sold out global stadium tour. He had some health issues but most artists deal with setbacks every once in a while. His next album will be like he never took a break
For a long time I didn’t understand how talented Justin was. He’s made a lot of mistakes and has also gone through a lot. I’ll never know him, but his music and documentaries vulnerable and impactful. I’ve watched Seasons here on YT at least twice.

I have loved Justin since day one and I honestly think the world owes him an apology. He was bullied online for absolutely no reason when his career started. He went through an insane amount of issues, and people only saw the bad side or bad things he did to cope. Even now people just won't leave him alone. The amount of fame he got was never seen before and there was no one there to guide him through it.
