Another song with a disturbing backstory is Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. In 1981, Jackson had received a fan letter claiming that he was the father of one of her children, even though Michael had never heard of or seen this woman in his life. The fan continued to send letters that they would love each other and would eventually get married. These letters disturbed Jackson so much, that he had repetitive nightmares about the fan and her claims. Later on, he received a parcel from the fan. It contained a photograph of the fan, a gun, and a letter saying to end his life. She had also mentioned in the letter that she had an abortion on their “baby” and said she would start a new life without him or the baby. The fan was later discovered to be in a mental hospital.
There's also another song that MJ made which has a disturbing backstory called morphine which was released in the late 90s, it details jacksons strong addiction to drugs and the trauma he suffered throughout his life, both the lyrics and the track itself is quite disturbing and sad tbh
To go further into depth on the story behind Polly, the last verse says “she caught me off my guard, amazes me the will of instinct” referencing to the fact that the girl in the story convinced Friend that she liked what he was doing to her in order to gain his trust. Eventually, he untied her from the pulley and took her on a ride to get gas. While he wasn’t looking, she got out of the car and started screaming for someone to help her and that’s how she got saved.
A neat thing/update about the Evil video: The project to restore the Norman puppet wasn't started by the band itself. It was started by a fan who managed to get a hold of what was left of him; the puppet's been fully restored inside and out and has an active instagram account :D
One of the weirdest interviews was when Kanye was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno after his mom died and right after the Taylor Swift incident. Jay Leno kind of laid into him saying “what would your mother think about how you’re acting” and so on and Kanye sat there in silence for like a good 3 mins. Just dead silence in the whole studio for 3 mins as Kanye sat there about to cry. I’ll always remember that interview just because of how unique, weird and not fake it was.
It's weirdly sick to me when people try and say "what would Donda think" and shit like that, regardless of how diabolical whatever Ye's saying at any given time is💀
@@jpns007While some people share your sentiment; others can understand why some people ask this question: surely Donda West would be embarrassed and possibly ashamed of how her son is acting. I honestly find it extremely petty of Kanye to flip off the crowd when they didn't take his side. Pink shook her head in disgust at him, 50 Cent remarked that it was Taylor's biggest achievement and he ruined it for her. Even then President Barack Obama weighed in on the matter by calling Kanye a jackass.
Dude the dance with the devil song is absolutely crazy... since my mother also works extremely hard to keep us financed and keep me happy, I could never imagine something like that happening to her... and the fact that such a story is based off true events makes it even harder to hear.
Don’t u think it’s weird that immortal technique admits to being one of the gang members who actively participated in the rape, torture, and murder of the woman?!?!? And insisted the song is a true story... 😬 Like, how could he still have fans after that?! After everyone knowing what a POS human he is??? 🤔
I remember seeing immortal technique live a few years ago and him bringing up how he’s constantly asked it he was really there after performing the song.
I have no idea if you are interested in vocaloid music, but the song “Coin locker baby” by Maretu is quite the gem, it is in japanese and refers to the cases of japanese mothers abandoning their babies in storage lockers at train stations. Also the song “Secrets of Wisteria” by Steampianist. It directly refers to the real life murders of british serial killer Albert Fish. It is extremely graphic though, so be wary. Hope you enjoy! Edit: made a mistake in the name of a song, sorry
I made the mistake of listening to secrets of wisteria backwards at 2am when I was younger and yes Yes I did go to sleep in my mom's room (Ironic considering how much of a horror fan I am now lmao)
I remember a song call daddy by korn, in the wiki it states: "Jonathan Davis has stated that the song is about a painful experience of being molested as a child and not being believed. However, he denied it was about physical or sexual abuse at the hands of his father, and the title and some concepts within the song stem from his parents not believing him. The song caused many to assume that Jonathan's father Rick Davis had molested his son. It is a source of embarrassment for Rick, though his son has gone on the record in many interviews saying it was actually written about a family friend. Jonathan and Rick both decided not to say who the person was. In an early Kerrang! magazine interview, Davis commented on the song: "When I was a kid, I was being abused by somebody else and I went to my parents and told them about it, and they thought I was lying and joking around. They never did shit about it. They didn't believe it was happening to their son.... I don't really like to talk about that song. This is as much as I've ever talked about it...." I feel that this song is too much for me, just wanted to share this, that's all.
The worst part about it (disclaimer, I could be completely wrong here) is that him breaking down in the end of the song wasn't planned. He told the other band mates before they recorded "no matter what happens, keep playing"
“I Don’t Like Mondays” by The Boomtown Rats is a good one. It’s inspired by one of the earlier US school shootings. Brenda Spencer was 16 and sat in her window sniping kids arriving at a San Diego elementary school. When asked why she did it, she said “I just don’t like Mondays.” Her father remained living in the home.
@@Luci-rv1hl “Finally, at about 2:30 p.m., lured by the promise of a Burger King Whopper, she laid down her rifle (along with a pellet gun) and surrendered.” “Lured by the promise of a Burger King Whopper” has me rolling lmao.
I feel like Nirvana's "You know you're right" deserves a place here, and as disturbing as the context behind Polly is, I find that this song was of a cry for help from Kurt than nobody ever noticed. Before I go into detail, the specific reason I think its so disturbing is that given the context of the lyrics, and the fact that the song was recorded less than 3 months before the suicide of Kurt, makes it seem especially grim. "I will never follow you, I will never bother you, never speak a word again, I will crawl away for good" "I'm so warm and calm inside, I no longer have to hide" These two lines specifically show the mentality of kurt and they hit me pretty hard as somebody who has suffered from depression. To go through that selfish self-destructive suicidal mindset of crawling away and leaving everyone and everything, to die and never bother anyone ever again. As well as feeling calm and warm inside. Although it is speculation, the first thing that comes to mind from my own experience is feeling a certain sense of warmth, comfort and calmness from thinking about killing yourself, you no longer have to hide behind a wall, in the face of your own demise or even the thought of it, you feel freed from your pain. It is a grim thing, but I think many others who have had suicidal symptoms of depression will most likely agree with me on this. Followed up by: "No thought was put into this, always knew it'd come to this" , "Things have never been so swell, I have never failed to fail" I think its pretty clear what context these lines have, and how depressing and hopeless they come across as. The chorus is made up of the word "Pain" and "You know you're right", and while I haven't noted them here the rest of the lyrics seem to most likely point towards Kurt's wife Courtney. I think it is clear that she had a part in his death whether it was involuntarily or not. They had a very toxic relationship and its my belief that it were some of the things she did that drove him to such a low point, which is why its important that the song is mostly about 1. Depressive suicidal thoughts and 2. A woman only caring for herself and always being in the right. This was the last song Kurt would record before his suicide in 1994.
Immediately what came to my head when I saw Kurt on the thumbnail, well said. Although I would like to point out for ethical reasons: It wasn't about women only caring for themselves, it was about some thinking that they know what is right. Anyways it doesn't matter much and thank you
@@AetherismIn this context "she" and "her" would indicate that it's particularly a woman in this case who thinks she is right. But I agree, it's the first thing that came up for me as well. You know you're right, I hate myself and want to die and Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle always felt like they were little hints from Cobain in a way. Perhaps the lyrics "I miss the comfort in being sad" has nothing to do with him and is about Frances Farmer, but given the context that he was suicidal and depressed for many years of his life, I doubt that he doesn't at the least even relate to the content that he so passionately wrote and sang about.
"pale flesh" and "child i will hurt you" by crystal castles are both songs about ab*se/sa. really a lot of their songs have this theme which is disturbing enough but its made even more upsetting when you learn that alice glass, one half of the duo had been s*xually ab*sed by her bandmate ethan for years..... and she wrote most of the lyrics for their songs
A song that’s not nearly covered enough is Ruru’s suicide show, a Japanese song based on the story of Rorochan_1999, a 13-year-old girl who live-streamed her jumping off a 13 floor apartment building. It’s a horrific case, and it really touched me.
I was gonna suggest that song too. It's such a sad story, and I feel like not a lot of people don't know about it. I think it would be interesting if tuv talked about it in a part 2 as well.
ah dude that song is fucking sad and disturbing once you get to see the story behind it. hard to believe she did it because of some sick fucks who encouraged her to jump off. rip rorochan.
This one!! I remember seeing a video on it and digging into the story myself, it really touched me and it's a pretty depressing case about the young girl who loved doing things like piano (pretty sure, kind of forgot since the last time I researched/checked.) only to get influenced by disgusting people to jump off.
The song by the one Japanese artist? I’ve been getting lots of replies to a post I made saying how the song was about ruru, until people telling me that it’s actually about an anime character from a show becuase of the similarities to the characters, but I cant be sure.
I remember the first time I listened to “dance with the devil” I was in middle school and my friend told me about I was curious so I listened to the whole thing. The song brought me to tears, the lyrics are detailed and explicit you really just forget about the outside world and get sucked into the story. Highly suggest listening to the full song!
I absolutely love that you're getting into music topics now, i got a few for you: Iowa - Slipknot, a 15 minute devastating track that tells the story of an obsessive person killing and playing with the corpse. Daddy - Korn, a song documenting the lead singer's past experience of being raped by a babysitter, and the fact that his parents didn't listen to him when he told them. Scissors - Slipknot, another longer cut from Slipknot that describes the singer's experiences with drug abuse and suicidal tendencies. Mind - System of a Down, a song about sexual abuse and being told to keep quiet and do as your told. Eraser - Nine Inch Nails, this song is pretty terriffying, the meaning behind it (linked with the album) is that the protagonist has finally found the "ruiner" in their life and the only way to escape this "ruiner" is to end their own life. Prison Sex - Tool, song about child abuse hidden under catchy riffs and a memorable chorus. Dead Skin Mask - Slayer, This song is about the serial killer ed gein and how he deals with his victims. love the new songs mate, keep them coming!
A song with a sad backstory I know is How To Disappear Completely by Radiohead. That song talks about Thom Yorkes distraught and depression from the OK Computer tour and his overall life. “That there, that’s not me. I go where I please.” “I’m not here, this isn’t happening.” Seriously though this is one my favorite songs of all time. It never fails to make me cry
i love radiohead because every song could have like 100 different meanings. no clue what meaning was intended in any of them, which i feel adds a bit of beauty to it. i think everybody sees their music differently which is pretty sick in the first place. (this is coming from someone who adores more rock-ish music in general, especially nirvana and radiohead)
I knew that Dance with The Devil would be on here, one of the most powerful and gut wrenching songs out there. It's one of those pieces of art that you wish you could listen to for the first time again... the first time that reveal came up and I realized what the song was about, it felt like a cold punch in the gut. Unforgettable.
@@that210punk5 The song contains one of the best storytelling ever, he does a brilliant job of really giving you the mental image of the scenario described in the lyrics. It's one of the most shocking songs imo that's why it holds a good spot in the list and is regarded as one of the best songs in Hip Hop history.
Sad I didn’t see Korn - Daddy on here. Quite a disturbing song about Jonathan (the vocalist) experiencing sexual abuse from their neighbors and their parents dismissing his claims. It is quite a tough listen…and it’s from their debut album! Crazy.
If you're doing a part 2 of this, I recommend you check out the song from Korn, "Daddy." It's considered one of their darkest songs. It's about the main vocalist, Johnathon Davis being physically abused by one of his family members (edited correction: a babysitter). And while he tried to tell his parents about this, they thought he was making it up as a joke. It's just one of the songs Davis refuses to play in live shows just because it brings back horrible memories.
in a lonely place is one of the most haunting songs i've ever heard, it almost sounds like i'm listening to something i shouldn't, and the fact that the joy division version of the song was recorded only four days before ian passed away makes it even more disturbing, so sad.
Here’s one for ya: “Iowa” by Slipknot Iowa is pretty much about a necrophiliac who goes insane with lust towards a decaying body. Screwed up. But what’s so dark is what happened when recording the song. Lead singer Corey Taylor was a massive alcoholic and was frequently drunk during recording times. However, he was at his worst when recording Iowa. Taylor was completely BUTT-NAKED wearing nothing but his mask, repeatedly vomiting on himself. Not to mention, he was holding a piece of broken glass that he was using to slice his hand. Meaning that each and everyone of those screams in the song was a actual scream of pain. All of this lead to a extremely disturbing and hard to listen to product. Thank CHRIST Corey got clean.
Funnily enough, on the EXACT SAME ALBUM, the opening track “515”, contains the pained and distraught screams and wails of Sid Wilson, the band’s DJ, after discovering that his grandfather had died. You can hear him scream crying and even choking at times, given the context it’s really horrible to listen to. I once heard someone say that, the producer actually locked him in the bathroom so he could record his screams. Pretty messed up album, still a banger tho,
I suffered from depression for years, and oddly enough, I created my best work (writing, art, music) when I was depressed. My pain was my inspiration. For a long time after I recovered, I thought I’d lost my artistic talent because I had to learn to create from joy instead of depression. It’s a weird feeling to know that I was at my best creatively when I was suffering so badly.
@@Emily-bb9cm I'm glad to hear you have recovered and i'm sorry you went through that. Songs and poetry written with emotion come across as authentic. So many songs are mass produced cleches by people trying to write what's popular. But when it's written out of experience you can tell the difference. It's a good thing when people can turn their pain into something artistic and beautiful. Especially when it helps them work through their thoughts and emotions.
@@greentaigo2552 Yeah, I was referring to the dancing with the devil song, I messed up and made it sound like I meant that in general, the rest of the songs were good and had a reason, but the dancing with the devil one sounded like just shock value and violence for no apparent reason
Yukiko Okada was a truly sad girl. Her story is heartbreaking. Another Japanese pop star who committed suicide is Yasuko Endo. (She was also an actress.)
i would recommend "Suffer Little Children" by The Smiths. This song is about the Moors Murders from 1963. It talks about how a couple murdered 5 children. The lyrics shows some of the victims names and described them. One of the most disturbing lyric from the song is "A woman said ”I know my son is dead I’ll never rest my hands on his sacred head”"
I was gonna recommend the same song. Super interesting. And such a haunting track. All the information around this song including Morrissey’s interactions with some of the family members of the victims just adds to the raw humanity of tragedy... and how we respond to it. I really would like to see it mentioned in a follow up video.
Zombie by The Cranberries is a great song with a disturbing backstory of the horrors of the Troubles, id recommend that. Or, I Was Only 19 by RedGum about the horrors and traumas left on Australians who fought in the Vietnam war, and I could also suggest We Almost Lost Detroit by Gil Scott Heron, about the partial meltdown of the Fermi 1 nuclear reactor near Detroit, Michigan, which could have been America's Chernobyl. Great Video!
For me it was disturbing that Linkin Park released the song "Talking to Myself" where Chester really sang the words in which he was describing his broken relationship with someone. I listened to it right after the release. And a few hours later, I found out that Chester was dead. It was terrifying... I think about it often. It's been 5 years already.
I think vocaloid has so many terrifying meanings behind sometimes very happy sounding songs. Kikuo and Maretu are probably some of the most famous and are the most scary. Hachi/kenshi yonezu has an album called Diorama made over a long depressive period. It is surprising the album even came to fruition. If you search J-pop has some of the most powerful and dark songs.
There's this one song idk if it's Vocaloid or associated with it, but it's called Becoming Potatoes by Neru; The song is about the group members' lives falling apart, with one of the lines being "let's all get crumpled together" and another being "The blueprint of our future is becoming potatoes". The group is called Wonderlands×Showtime
@@yonisdiaz9391 Yes, Becoming Potatoes is a Vocaloid song, but it's actually made by Neru. The song was commissioned for the game Project Sekai and is sung by Wonderlands x Showtime (one of the in game fictional music groups), and the Vocaloid version is sung by Kagamine Rin. OSTER Project is an unrelated artist who also works with Vocaloid, though I believe she's done non Vocaloid stuff too. I'm guessing you might have gotten OSTER Project and Wonderlands x Showtime's named up lol. Hope this helps!
Yeah, one of the first songs I thought of when I saw the title was Coin Locker Baby. You could probably make an entire video of just Vocaloid songs with disturbing meanings/backstories.
a song that my mom regularly listens to is Ode to Billie Joe by Bobbie Gentry, and it's pretty disturbing for an old song. it's about a family's reaction to the news of a local boy's suicide, and how most of the family (apart from the narrator) treats his death with indifference. in one part of the song, it's mentioned that Billie (the boy) was seen with a girl (likely the narrator, but unknown to the character mentioning this) throwing "something" off the very bridge that Billie would jump to his death from. Since the song's release in 1967, there's been wide speculation about what it was they threw off the bridge that may have motivated Billie's suicide, most of which point to a baby.
Not a well known song, but "Happy As Annie" by Indie band Larrikin Love. The song follows a unique and bouncy (and a little goofy) fusion of Folk-Ska/Punk, and disguises a horrific story. It has a pretty innocent backdrop until you reach a certain point, to which the lyrics take an EXTREMELY dark turn for the worst. It's basically about the singer frolicking in a summer field only to find a girl having a nap under a tree, lamenting on how she's skipping school in the burning hot. But upon closer inspection, he finds her face was grey and she has her underwear around her ankles. Realizing she'd been raped and murdered, it adds a whole new chill to the infectious chorus of which he sings "Children, please beware". The band hasn't spoken openly about the inspiration and/or whether it was based on actual events. But the lyrics do name a date of the incident. "September 3rd 2003". The obscurity of both the song and the case (if true) just adds a whole lot more to the creepiness.
@@ppsmol4612 The band are from London, so I can only assume it was somewhere in the UK. As for the alleged incident, it says it all in the lyrics. They found a young girl who was raped and murdered.
A very similar incident to the one mentioned in the song is the murder of Milly Dowler, I'm not sure whether this is what they were referencing but it seems to be the most likely one (as it happened in 2002)
"Dyers Eve" by Metallica is a good one. The singer, James Hetfield, wrote it about his own troubled childhood with his religiously abusive parents. They never played the song live due to its lyrics being too hurtful to James for him to sing.
Fuck yeah dude that song goes fucking hard as fuck, DEAR MOTHER DEAR FATHHEEERRRRRR WHAT IS THIS HELL HAVE YOU PUT ME THROUGHHHHH also, Fade to Blacl and One is also depressing too
If we're talking disturbing, their song "One" is pretty fucking dark. It's in the perspective of a man who's lost all his limbs in war and is unable to talk, and is just laying in his hospital bed unable to move or talk and just praying that they will kill him
@@mmameerkat and also Harvester of sorrow, its basically about A man who had a PTSD as child and when he grow up, he killed all of his own family because of PTSD
"Jeremy" is such a nostalgic yet strange song for me because I remember my mom would always have it on (since she had the best of Pearl Jam CD) while driving and I'd always ask what they meant by the line "Jeremy spoke in class today". She would just brush me off lol. I can see why. Also, for dark songs, "Janie's Got A Gun" by Aerosmith is definitely on my list.
1:33 this hits home for me, most people know that Kayne was diagnosed bipolar disorder which is heartbreaking in itself but being diagnosed with bpd(which is completely different from bipolar disorder but both fall under the personality disorder category) i’ve learned that people who suffer from mental illness always have a person that they can go to that wont judge or criticize you..kanye’s mom was his person. I can’t imagine how he must’ve felt during this time. Kanye’s only comfort in this world was his mom..may he find peace💔
@@Buggy_808s People forget he's a human, the media loves to cherrypick every outrageous thing he says in interviews and turn his image into that of a monster at every corner. They dont even see him as a person with feelings and nuance
Another song that I think should be here is "Suki Suki Daisuki" by Jun Togawa, the song is basically about a romantic feeling becoming way too intense that it's violent, the author has even confirmed this to be the meaning considering Jun has been in multiple abusive relationships and after those found a healthy relationship, and that she loved that healthy partner so much, that it became violent
It’s truly horrifying how so many people get away with the most sadistic and horrific things. It shouldn’t be that way. My heart goes out to all the souls that have suffered at the hands of someone else or who are going through difficult times. Having gone through similar things myself, know that you are loved and not alone. If you’re reading this I hope you have an amazing day or night and know that there is always someone looking out for you. You are loved❤️🥰 (ps. thanks for reading) lots of love💗
Thank you :) that made me feel a lot better,it makes me feel that there are actually good people in the world like you.hope you have a great day or night!
“Breaking the Habit” by Linkin Park is more of an inspiring song alone, but given the context of what happens to one of the group members Chester, it becomes much more of a sad thing to listen to. Part 2 would be amazing. Great video too.
I remember watching a video by the RUclips SLO4N about the actress Alexa Nichols and her ex-husband that abused her. He is the lead singer of the band Rhye, and their songs are pretty disturbing. Apparently he sexually assaulted a Japanese fan and recorded her moans and telling him to stop, and he rewinded it and used it as background for one of his songs. He also sampled audio footage of him sexually assaulting his wife and put it in the song too I believe. The song is called 'Don't Call It'. I don't think the lyrics are necessarily 'disturbing' per say but the production and background noises are. So if you do a part 2 you could add that perhaps idk. Edit: I looked up the song on RUclips and it's posted under miloshmakingmusic , Mike Milosh is the lead singer. The song cover is of a naked women, and if I remember correctly I believe that is Nichols and she claimed that that was also used without permission. All around weird.
Actually her name is Alexa Nikolas. She recently appeared in a documentary titled "Quiet on Set: the Dark Side of Kids TV" which is about the slimy ways of Dirty Dan Schneider.
dance with the devil is an INCREDIBLE song. every time i hear it, i get chills and wish i could go back to the first time i heard it. nothing could've prepared me for the plot twist
Here's a disturbing one: Where the Wild Roses Grow by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds It tells the story of a man who courted a young woman, and then took her by a river and beat her to death with a rock. It goes back and forth between the woman and the man's perception a little which is cool. The song haunts me.
The Gazette - Taion, is about the case of Junko Furuta, a Japanese girl who was held hostage by a group of boys and had despicable things done to her over a short period of time, before they put her body in an oil tanker, filled it with concrete and left it in the river… whilst one of the boys parents was aware she was at their house. It happened in the 80s and all of the culprits are back in society now, albeit with changed identities. There’s also a movie about it too. Everything about the song is dark but the melodic guitar solo gives me goosebumps 14 years after I first heard it.
Just read the whole story that is truly sickening. And the people only got bout 7 years for the fucked up things they did. I hope all the messed up things they did like shoving a lit match and beating her and dropping melted wax into her eyes happens to themselves because I don't know how a human could do such a thing. I've lost the little bit of faith I've had in humanity today.
That was actually just speculation, they never confirmed Taion to be about Junko Furuta. I’m almost certain the members themselves have said it wasn’t,
I would personally love a part 2. I have never heard of certain songs on this list or really understand the lyrics to others and I thought this video was really cool
The entire album called “The Holy Bible” from the Welsh band Manic Street Preachers is disturbing but incredible. It was the last album the band released before lyricist Richey Edwards disappeared never to be seen again. It’s widely believed that he either ran away to start anew or he committed S after a battle with ED, alcoholism and SH. His story is very interesting but heartbreaking. The album discusses prostittution, ED, the holocaaust, and how r@pists and murderers should get the death sentence and more. Listener discretion advised but very powerful.
I started listening to this album thanks to you, and looking at the album cover has helped me realise that I have come across the album in the past at some point, but I can't remember where, I must've never listened to it but it sounds great. As you say, the lyrics are very deep from what I can see.
@@mashy6126 Glad I could introduce you to it! It’s an awesome album, one of my all time favourites. And if I can help to promote the Manics in any way, I will, as they’re not as well-known as they should be!
I’m surprised “Pumped Up Kids” by Foster the People wasn’t in. It’s one of the songs that first pops in my head when I think of “happy” melodies with a dark story. I remember being in 9th grade when the song came out and every Friday they would play “what’s in” on the speakers for a few mins. And this song played 4 weeks straight before it was taken down because of the meaning behind it lol. We had an assembly about it where the principal apologized and talked about gun violence. It was crazy 😅
I saw the thumbnail without reading the title and I thought "lmao why and how someone is talking about Yukko" and then I read the title and, yeah. True. Thank you for talking about her and if possible it would be super cool for people to discover her music and media apparences! She was a super nice singer with songs written and producted by Takeuchi Mariya (you know, Plastic Love...) and she did wonderful things, it would be cool to remember her for her cutesy songs rather than her very sad ending... Love y'all!
same! it's nice to hear yukko-chan being talked about more on. sadly I wish it was more of her work rather than her death, she was and is a role model for all.
So glad that you covered Dance With The Devil, anytime this conversation of songs with disturbing backstories comes up that is the first one that comes to my mind.
Great video as usual, tuv! If you do a part 2, I recommend that you check out the song "Secrets of Wysteria". It's about the victims of serial killer and cannibal Albert Fish who prayed on young children back in the early 20th century. If you play the song backwards, you can actually hear the recording he sent to one of his victim's parents about how he ate her body. It's very tragic. I look forward to seeing your next video!
dont say anything further. that song haunts me until today just because i’m a vocaloid fan despite its been years since i dug deeper into the story behind it
this song sent me into a SPIRAL i was too terrified to sleep at night and was constantly paranoid for months, i still havent brought myself to watch it lmao
@@PLAGUE-KARM A few years ago I made the mistake of reading the entire wikipedia page about Albert Fish and all that because of the song. Couldn't sleep for a while.
I've got a couple of songs. One is by My Chemical Romance. It's not necessarily disturbing, but it is definitely a little spooky. Sleep was written while MCR was staying at a haunted house. The begining of the song has a distorted recording of frontman, Gerard Way (he'll come up again for the 2nd song), describing the nightmares he had. I find that just spooky. The second is Gerard Way's unreleased song, Piano Jam. Again, not really disturbing, but extremely sad. As far as we know it's about his brother and MCR bassist, Mikey Way. Give it a listen it is really sad.
Also Helana isn’t more unsettling than it it’s sad, it’s basically about when Gerard felt suicidal after loosing his grandma. Also I can kind of relate to this, sorry if this is to personal but currently my grandma is dying of cancer so probably soon that song will have more of a deep meaning for me.
Nirvana has a handful of songs that are based (or at least inspired by) some very dark and disturbing true cases. Francis Farmer, Floyd The Barber, Underneath The Bridge and others. LOOOOVE Nirvana and Kurt's poetry in ways I cant even find words for. He was so in tune with pain and still had a huge heart. Great vid tuv, I'll have to look more into some of the other artists mentioned I didnt know about before. Oh shit I had no idea about the fred & rosemary west connection damn. AND THANKS FOR MAKING A WHOLE PLAYLIST you're the best
Underneath the Bridge is actually called Something in the Way. Another song of there’s about a disturbing story is Paper Cuts. It’s about a boy locked in his attic by is parents his whole life.
I'm pretty sure everyone has at least heard of this, but I wanna bring up Everywhere At The End Of Time. It is a 6 hour long album that is basically just what a dementia patient can experience but through audio form. It uses samples of old ballroom music that gets more and more unrecognizable as the album progresses. It is disturbing and VERY depressing to say at least. It doesn't really have a backstory, but the subject matter is very touchy.
Diamanda Galás' entire discography would fit her perfectly lol She a has an album trilogy called the red mask of death about the AIDS epidemic, she lost her borther to AIDS so she dedicated her musical career to help AIDS patients and advocate for them. She's also an amazing singer, composer and lyricist. I suggest looking at "This is the law of the plague" as an example of her music and message. Not her darkest song though.
I recommend that you check out the backstory to 'Dancing in the Moonlight.' Yes, THAT song. (EDIT: King Harvest version) It's basically a true story about the songwriter being assaulted by a vicious gang and later envisioning an alternative life where he was celebrating life. The insane part of the story is that the gang later killed 8 people in what is known as the *Fountain Valley Massacre.* Absolutely insane.
Dark place by Juice just touches my soul, as someone who struggles with Depression. It's like Juice is singing exactly how Depression feels especially when I can barely put it into words myself.
@@at4na583 I would also like him to add “sometimes” and “already dead”. Fighting demons has some reallllly deep songs. 💔I kinda wish robbery was relaxed with that album initially instead of with death race for love.
Ruru's Suicide Show on a Livestream by Shinsei Kamattechan. From what I remember the song is a tribute for a Japanese girl (I think she was 13 or 14) named Roro who suffered from mental illness and was really lonely. She used to go on livestreams on RUclips under the name Rorochan_1999. On one stream she was sitting on the balcony of her apartment and contemplating to jump. Roro wanted to become a legend and comments on the stream encouraged her to jump saying things like "If you jump you'll become a legend" and stuff, and so she jumped. The song is in Japanese but it has English translations. I don't think it's ever been publicly said by the band that it was about her but it's just kind of obvious with the lyrics and the name of the song. I think the worst part is that people were dancing to and mocking/making jokes about it on Tik Tok, there was a girl dancing on a balcony while playing this song, it was sick. The singer has an amazing vocal range though, he and his bandmates are seriously great for bringing attention to topics such as suicide and mental health, which are ignored in Asian countries like Japan.
It’s great you mentioned Yukiko Okada. I happen to be a fan of hers & when I heard Never See Me Again, I went back to here Futari Dake no Ceremony again. I do here the similarities between both songs. Since Kanye did stay in Japan after the Taylor Swift incident, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came across certain songs during his time there.
if there will be a part 2,I'd suggest you include "Purity" by Slipknot, it's based on a story of a girl named Purity who got kidnapped and locked into a wooden box, then buried alive. The band later got sued for making the song since the story was actually made up by a fake news stories website and had to take it off their album, they added it back later tho.
There's a happy ending to the Norman Puppet if you care about it. It was not actually abandoned, The gofundme was organized by John Kolbek, not interpol ((Also fun fact, John Kolbek was one of the creators of 123 Slaughter Me St. if you remember that)), who purchased the puppet off of ebay after it was passed around and rotted in multiple storage lockers. As of recently, (March 2022 iirc) Norman is actually fully restored with new animatronics and everything, and you can watch the progress John made in trying to get it repaired on his youtube channel.
There's one disturbing song that I've heard and that is "Ozone" by Unique Salonga. Despite the song being in filipino, I think it translates well in english. It's about the 1996 Ozone Disco fire, widely known as the worst fire in Philippine history and among the 10 worst nightclub fires in the world. The song gives you a perspective of an average customer of the said disco at that situation and I think it's worth the listen.
I had no clue about Polly. That's gonna hit me hard now listening to it. Thank you for putting Jeremy on here, I've loved that song since I was kid. Also didn't know about the lead of Joy Division (yep, I'm that old haha).
I’d definitely recommend listening to any song by Kikuo, his songs are super disturbing. I’d recommend listening without cc (the songs are in Japanese) and then listen to the song again with cc. It changes the whole atmosphere to his songs. Thanks for another amazing video :3
Definitely keen for part 2! I suggest Hamburger Lady by Throbbing Gristle for the next one. It's considered by some to be the scariest song recorded. It's a really jarring piece that describes a burns victim in a hospital who is so burnt that her skin looks like hamburger meat. She was called the hamburger lady because of this, but all of the lyrics are taken from a real letter written by someone who served as a medivac in Vietnam. All of this combined makes this one a bit of a harrowing listen.
I’ve been meaning to listen to that band lemme give that song a shot Edit: meh it’s creepy but you can’t make out anything he’s saying. I like the production though, it’s interesting. Not a very disturbing song imo.
yesssss. throbbing gristle is the shit, i love how genuinely uncomfortable a lot of their music is-- it's hard to evoke such strong emotion through just sound but they nailed it
Their song "Very Friendly" is a bit upsetting too. More so knowing it is about Ian Brady, Myra Hindley and one of their victims. The first time I heard it, it send chills to my spine.
“Fitzpleasure” by Alt-J is a great example too. It’s inspired by a story about a group of men forcing a broom into a young girl in a local public common until she died. Based on a book called Last Exit to Brooklyn.
Jesus I didnt know this one, I got obsessed with that album about 2 years ago and even own it on vinyl but always saw them as a pretty safe and accessible indie pop rock band so thats an unexpected backstory
First time I listened to Dark Place, I teared up. Such a sad thing how prior Juice’s death, this song was seen as nothing more than merely another “emo, sad” song.
If you do a part two, definitely talk about “I don't like Mondays”, by the Boomtown Rats. The song is based on the story of Brenda Ann Spencer, who shot at a school from her house, killing two people and hurting nine. When asked why she did it she responded “I don’t like Mondays”. She was the first well known school shooter at the time, so it’s pretty interesting. Edit: (WARNING: Mentions of the r-word) Just want to add, that, like many school shooters, she does have tragic backstory, which doesn’t excuse her action, but it can make us understand them. Her parents divorced, and she lived with her dad, who allegedly raped and abused her (which her mom knew, but didn’t care about, and also by her statement), and also was the one to give her the gun she used to shoot them. I also want to say that when she stated her reasoning, it was while she was being arrested and interviewed by journalist, so her statement could have been out of fear, because she didn’t know what was going happen to her. Lastly, don’t completely trust me on this as I haven’t read about the case for a long time, so definitely double check on what I’m saying. People can also fact check me in the comments, and I’ll gladly add or change things about my comment. So yeah, definitely check it out
@@BearUneek i did a report on it in high school when we were supposed to take a song and analyze it. in hindsight i'm surprised they didn't make me talk to someone lol
I absolutely love and adore music and the fact that not many people cover disturbing music in a full detailed video, I'm so glad this popped up especially when it's a Tuv video awesome vid man. And PLEASE PLEASE Cover the song "Daddy" by Korn it is such an influential song and it really really means a lot to me and plus it is so so eerie to listen to since the singer actually broke down crying and it's recorded. Edit: yes I'm just now seeing everyone commenting the same exact song stop hoppin on me 💀
I remember when the dance with the devil song came out and my older cousins were giving me the backstory. As a 10 year old kid the song gave me nightmares. I still can’t fully listen to that song without feeling afraid.
Another really creepy song is 44 Days by Mr.Kitty Holy damn it shook me to realize that it was written about Junko Furata and her "44 days in hell". Those 44 days she spent in "hell" would be the last of her life. In those days she was constantly beaten, tortured (literally), r*ped, stuffed in a freezer for hours at a time, and it only gets worse. She dies after she was literally set on fire. God i feel horrible after finding that out.
@@diggychase Junko Furuta was a Japanese girl who was kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered in the late 80’s by 4 high school students. The torture took place for 44 days as they forced Furuta to explain to the Police in the early days of the investigation that she was one of the perpetrator’s girlfriends. If Furuta had said no to her being one of the perpetrator’s girlfriends, then the police could potentially have stopped the abhorrent treatment of Furuta before it got any worse. What really frustrated me about the case is that the perpetrators basically got no prison time with the main leader getting just 20 years. His parents knew and covered the whole thing up, lying to the police and, get this, the main perpetrator’s mother actually sued the Furuta family for causing her son distress as he did not like being in prison. It’s an absolutely disgusting case. They burned her, beat her, raped her, dropped an iron exercise ball on her stomach, invited other men round to rape her, made her inhale paint thinner, sodomised her with a metal rod and a lot more.
There’s a band that specializes in taking historical tragedies and making songs out of them, they’re called American Murder Song and they’ve written bangers about such classics as the donner party, Lavinia Fisher, and the year without a summer
Songs with disturbing backgrounds are so fascinating to me. Music is very emotional and discovering the meaning behind lyrics has always been a hobby of mine. I've been looking up lyrics and meanings to songs for as long as I can remember. You should totally do a part 2 of this video because there are so many other songs you could talk about. One that comes to mind is "Limousine" by Brand New, it's about the death of a little girl who died in a limo crash because of a drunk driver while on the way home from her older sister's wedding. It's a true story and it's very sad.
Listened to Dance With the Devil after this and was so disturbed I had to hold back tears. Truly evil but still a good and masterful song. Looking forward to a part 2!
Another song with a disturbing meaning is "The Kids Aren't Alright" by Offspring, the song describes how we as kids think that the world is perfect and that we can be doctors and all that shit, but as we grow up, the world around us starts to be different and that we keep doing some vile shit and seeing your loved ones go from young happy children to being suicidal, teen pregnancy and etc and it really perfectly describes that. And the cruelest dreams is reality.
If you do a part two, I suggest “today” by the smashing pumpkins. It’s a very unsuspecting and catchy song saying “today is the greatest day-“ when it’s actually being sarcastic about su1c1de. The singer said he was “completely obsessed” with offing himself. The song is seemingly positive at first glance, but there are hints in the lyrics like “can’t live for tomorrow” and “I might not have that long”. It also implies/hints at self harm when it says “pink ribbon scars”
With a topic Nirvana put on Polly and Floyd The Barber (which has a very similar lyrics), I should be quite uncomfortable and triggered by hearing and learning the song. Instead, I absolutely love them because Kurt was just so great at writing simple, yet catchy and incredible songs. Well, basically bunch more Nirvana songs, but I just can't name them all. But my faves are You Know You're Right, Frances Farmer and Something In The Way.
Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge is also based on a dark case. As is Underneath The Bridge. Kurt was so in tune with pain and the struggle between empathy vs apathy, and even for being such a tortured person he was very kind and had a very strong sense of justice. Nirvana was the first band I deep dived into in my preteens, and they've been there for me in some pretty dark times because I know they'd been there before me, and with me.
Honestly so many nirvana songs can be on this list there all pretty dark I mean they made endless nameless out of pure rage from not getting in bloom down
I would love to see a Part 2. Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" has a music video that doesn't match the song's meaning. The song itself is about the singer's battle with depression. The music video was made into a montage of photos of missing children in hopes of finding them. Most have been found because of that video's popularity since its release in 1994. Aeeosmith's "Janie's Got A Gun'" is pretty messed up, too.
Semi-charmed Life by Third Eye Blind is one of those upbeat happy fun songs that disguises a horrible story. The song is sung from the perspective of someone who starts to do various drugs to liven up what is otherwise a bland, average life. It's about drug addiction and someone losing themselves (and everyone that loved them) to the disease and then ending up wishing they could get out of the grasp of addiction.
I would love to see a second part with Major Tom by Peter schilling. For what I know it was inspired in a cosmonaut named Vladimir Komarov, the first person to die in a space mission. The backstory it's a little extensive because it involves more songs by the artist David Bowie but I think it's worth mentioning
“Baby Hotline” by Jack Stauber. ‘The most famous theory about the song is that it seems to likely be about a person who's loved one has passed away and is having troubles moving on and accepting so. The overall theme of calling a baby hotline for their loved one but always being put on hold is likely symbolism is him not accept that she's gone and he can't get back to her, yet he continues to keep trying to see her, mainly seen when the singer says "No, uh, I'll try again though". It eventually leads to the singer killing themselves to get away from their troubles, singing about "wrapping it in with cinnamon and then wrapping the trouble" to be able to be with the loved one, being foreshadowed in the lyric "Someday I will go back outside and see her okay".’
I always felt the song was about calling a suicide hotline, like someone who is dealing with the death of a loved one and having to call a suicide hotline so they won't end up on the same situation...
That last one made me actually have my jaw to the floor (which doesn’t happen often considering…it’s the internet you’re gonna see or hear a bunch of crazy stuff)
Officially subscribed! I hesitated because I struggle with my mental health and some of your videos can be quite dark and depressing, but I love your attitude (you keep it light without being inappropriate about it, which A LOT of people can't do) and the content in general. You've really been doing a phenomenal job! I would really love to see a part 2 of this! I've probably watched 10-15 of your vids and this is my fave! So many good song recommendations, which is AMAZING cause I'm far too lazy/busy to find songs for myself lmao Edit: After scrolling through comments over the last few days, I have 40 songs to listen to! This was the most useful post for me I've seen in a long time 😂
If you do end up doing a part 2 I recommend: Gomenne, Gommenne by Kikuo as it implies r-word and violence and other self-interpretations from the pov of a young girl who is normalizing these awful acts done by her father and his friends because it is the only thing she knows. Another one is Balloon Syndrome by Babuchan as I believe it depicts a girl going through an abort--n, miscarr--ge, or infertility. But you can interpret it however. Or you could do like any other Babuchan song, I've never seen anyone discuss them or their songs. They are a more obscure figure in the vocaloid community so info on their music is scarce mostly. Zombie by The Cranberries as it was a response to the death of 2 children in an IRA b-mbing in the Cheshire town of Warrington. The two bombs hidden in litter bins were detonated on a busy shopping street in March 1993. It was a protest song as it was made during a 30-year conflict between Protestant unionists and Roman Catholic nationalists regarding the UK's involvement in the Irish government. Almost any of IC3PEAK's songs can probably be mentioned as most of their songs are built off of criticizing Russian politics and government. At some point(s) the Russian government going as far as attempting to censor their songs. Last suggestion is Oblivion by Grimes as the song is about Grimes being violently as--ulted and how it made her become extremely paranoid walking around at night and just not feeling really safe in general. Descriptions depicting a imagery depicting a dark night evokes both the actual event of the assault and her process of coping with the trauma.
Loved this video concept! If you do another part a song I learned recently has a dark meaning is Poplar St. by Glass Animals, as it’s about an older woman who repeatedly grooms young boys in her neighborhood told from the point of view of one of her victims.
Evil is one of my favorite songs by interpol, I’m so glad it’s on here, it’s so underrated. I found out the meaning through the comments a few years ago but it bangs so hard so💀
I grew up listening to underground artists like Immortal technique and Benefits. "Dance with the Devil" scared the sh!t out of me but it was a dope and completely genius piece of art!!! Thank you for this insightful and nostalgic content! I'm definitely subscribing❤️

That’s dark af wtf. The fact he rarely talks about it is insane

It's weirdly sick to me when people try and say "what would Donda think" and shit like that, regardless of how diabolical whatever Ye's saying at any given time is💀
Did he know his mom was gone?
@_M41KU_ the Taylor Swift incident took place more than a year after Donda's passing
@@_M41KU_yep, that’s why he said it
@@jpns007While some people share your sentiment; others can understand why some people ask this question: surely Donda West would be embarrassed and possibly ashamed of how her son is acting.
I’ll never forget the first time listening to “dance with the devil”. Really lays down the possible horrors about going down a certain dark road.
so when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never cause a dance with the devil might last you forever

MORE TECH FANS
I still remember where I was and who I was with the first time I heard it like 12-13 years ago. That’s a song you never forget
I will never forget the first time I listened to this song.

Tbh a lot of vocaloid songs have very dark meanings
I remember a song call daddy by korn, in the wiki it states:
"Jonathan Davis has stated that the song is about a painful experience of being molested as a child and not being believed.
In an early Kerrang! magazine interview, Davis commented on the song:
"When I was a kid, I was being abused by somebody else and I went to my parents and told them about it, and they thought I was lying and joking around. They never did shit about it. They didn't believe it was happening to their son.... I don't really like to talk about that song. This is as much as I've ever talked about it...."
I feel that this song is too much for me, just wanted to share this, that's all.
The worst part about it (disclaimer, I could be completely wrong here) is that him breaking down in the end of the song wasn't planned. He told the other band mates before they recorded "no matter what happens, keep playing"
i was thinking of this song while watching the video, its sad what happened to Jonathan.
that song is amazing it's one of my fave korn songs.
Dude, I was literally thinking the same song.

"I will never follow you, I will never bother you, never speak a word again, I will crawl away for good"
"I'm so warm and calm inside, I no longer have to hide"
These two lines specifically show the mentality of kurt and they hit me pretty hard as somebody who has suffered from depression.
Followed up by:
"No thought was put into this, always knew it'd come to this" , "Things have never been so swell, I have never failed to fail"
I think its pretty clear what context these lines have, and how depressing and hopeless they come across as.
Anyways it doesn't matter much and thank you
Oh no wonder why I related to that song
Well said i agree
Paper cuts is nirvana's darkest song. One of the darkest ever made.
Tell me what to swallow was also about Ethan I’m pretty sure, how he would pretty much control Alice’s life
A song that’s not nearly covered enough is Ruru’s suicide show, a Japanese song based on the story of Rorochan_1999, a 13-year-old girl who live-streamed her jumping off a 13 floor apartment building.
I immediately thought of this song when I saw the title of the video, it is really one of the most sad songs I've heard

I absolutely love that you're getting into music topics now, i got a few for you:
Iowa - Slipknot, a 15 minute devastating track that tells the story of an obsessive person killing and playing with the corpse.
I really want tuv to cover Prison sex, the lyrics paired with the music video is very disturbing

OMG FR.
i love radiohead because every song could have like 100 different meanings. no clue what meaning was intended in any of them, which i feel adds a bit of beauty to it. i think everybody sees their music differently which is pretty sick in the first place.
It's considered one of their darkest songs. It's about the main vocalist, Johnathon Davis being physically abused by one of his family members (edited correction: a babysitter). And while he tried to tell his parents about this, they thought he was making it up as a joke.
It's just one of the songs Davis refuses to play in live shows just because it brings back horrible memories.

in a lonely place is one of the most haunting songs i've ever heard, it almost sounds like i'm listening to something i shouldn't, and the fact that the joy division version of the song was recorded only four days before ian passed away makes it even more disturbing, so sad.
poor ian he is one of my fav singers his voice is magical
Here’s one for ya:
“Iowa” by Slipknot
Iowa is pretty much about a necrophiliac who goes insane with lust towards a decaying body.
Pretty messed up album, still a banger tho,
@@casual_villainbanger album tho

I know people deal with depression differently, but I find it amazing how these people continue to produce art when they're feeling flat.
That’s not art, it’s just violence and shock value

i would recommend "Suffer Little Children" by The Smiths. This song is about the Moors Murders from 1963. It talks about how a couple murdered 5 children. The lyrics shows some of the victims names and described them. One of the most disturbing lyric from the song is
"A woman said ”I know my son is dead
I’ll never rest my hands on his sacred head”"
Good to see another Smiths fan here.
I was gonna recommend the same song. Super interesting. And such a haunting track. All the information around this song including Morrissey’s interactions with some of the family members of the victims just adds to the raw humanity of tragedy... and how we respond to it. I really would like to see it mentioned in a follow up video.

Cool coincidence that there's a really infamous gore mixtape by the same name
Zombie by The Cranberries is a great song with a disturbing backstory of the horrors of the Troubles, id recommend that. Or, I Was Only 19 by RedGum about the horrors and traumas left on Australians who fought in the Vietnam war, and I could also suggest We Almost Lost Detroit by Gil Scott Heron, about the partial meltdown of the Fermi 1 nuclear reactor near Detroit, Michigan, which could have been America's Chernobyl.

Hey you're here
Oh hi mark 😧
I think vocaloid has so many terrifying meanings behind sometimes very happy sounding songs. Kikuo and Maretu are probably some of the most famous and are the most scary. Hachi/kenshi yonezu has an album called Diorama made over a long depressive period. It is surprising the album even came to fruition. If you search J-pop has some of the most powerful and dark songs.
Agreed .
Yeesss
Oh wow- that sounds...wow..-
can i ask what and where the incident was?
@@ppsmol4612 The band are from London, so I can only assume it was somewhere in the UK. As for the alleged incident, it says it all in the lyrics. They found a young girl who was raped and murdered.
Yess a Larrikin Love fan 🤝
A very similar incident to the one mentioned in the song is the murder of Milly Dowler, I'm not sure whether this is what they were referencing but it seems to be the most likely one (as it happened in 2002)
"Dyers Eve" by Metallica is a good one. The singer, James Hetfield, wrote it about his own troubled childhood with his religiously abusive parents. They never played the song live due to its lyrics being too hurtful to James for him to sing.

@@mmameerkat and also Harvester of sorrow, its basically about A man who had a PTSD as child and when he grow up, he killed all of his own family because of PTSD

“Breaking the Habit” by Linkin Park is more of an inspiring song alone, but given the context of what happens to one of the group members Chester, it becomes much more of a sad thing to listen to. Part 2 would be amazing. Great video too.
Linkin Park has meaningful lyrics, Chester was screaming for help.

Yeahh, do you know Aishite? Its really good but the MV has alot of flashing lights
@@yonisdiaz9391 great song. i think gomene is even worse
@@blackairforce13 and cotton candy
@black air force dude that song is so disgusting
@@Ladyof.sorrows the song isn’t about cannibalism, it’s a song about sexual abuse of a young girl from her father.
Yikes I listened
I’ve been meaning to listen to that band lemme give that song a shot
Edit: meh it’s creepy but you can’t make out anything he’s saying. I like the production though, it’s interesting. Not a very disturbing song imo.
yesssss. throbbing gristle is the shit, i love how genuinely uncomfortable a lot of their music is-- it's hard to evoke such strong emotion through just sound but they nailed it
its so crazy i was thinking that exact thing when i scrolled down to the comments
That’s a fantastic book.
What??!
Jesus I didnt know this one, I got obsessed with that album about 2 years ago and even own it on vinyl but always saw them as a pretty safe and accessible indie pop rock band so thats an unexpected backstory
@@gloriaborger8053 yes
what’s forcing a broom?
First time I listened to Dark Place, I teared up. Such a sad thing how prior Juice’s death, this song was seen as nothing more than merely another “emo, sad” song.
I’m so glad immortal technique exists to show how bad it really is. He doesn’t glorify gangs and being gangster. He’s legit one of my favorite
So yeah, definitely check it out
i commented this song on the original post. also cassie by flyleaf based on columbine.
@@toxxicx Whoa! I just listened to the song by Flyleaf; I never knew it existed, awesome song and tribute to Cassie. Thanks for sharing 👌🏽
"And the silicon chip inside her head was switched to overload"
My mom has this on her Spotify list. It's an earworm but also melancholic.
@@BearUneek i did a report on it in high school when we were supposed to take a song and analyze it. in hindsight i'm surprised they didn't make me talk to someone lol
@@toxxicx Oh wow, I actually did a similar report in 7th grade; my song of choice just so happen to be “Youth of the Nation” by P.O.D.
Edit: yes I'm just now seeing everyone commenting the same exact song stop hoppin on me 💀
Seconding Daddy, definitely a must have on a part 2.
A youtuber called plagued moth who covers disturbing content actually just made a video on this song!
I remember when the dance with the devil song came out and my older cousins were giving me the backstory. As a 10 year old kid the song gave me nightmares. I still can’t fully listen to that song without feeling afraid.
Another really creepy song is 44 Days by Mr.Kitty
Holy damn it shook me to realize that it was written about Junko Furata and her "44 days in hell".
Those 44 days she spent in "hell" would be the last of her life. In those days she was constantly beaten, tortured (literally), r*ped, stuffed in a freezer for hours at a time, and it only gets worse. She dies after she was literally set on fire.
God i feel horrible after finding that out.
I didn't know that there was a song abt that..
Hahaha I love Mr. Kitty that song is in my hyper-pop playlist
All because the poor girl said no... 🙁
@@burntfood1560 please explain more
@@diggychase Junko Furuta was a Japanese girl who was kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered in the late 80’s by 4 high school students.
So glad Interpol was mentioned, their first 3 albums have some of the best alt/post punk songs from the early 2000's
realest shit
agreed! theyre unfortunately not talked about enough so i was pleasantly surprised when they were mentioned here :) !
Yeah man, Not Even Jail and Lief Erikson have to be some of my favorite songs of all time
The most disturbing song backstory is dream’s “Mask”
The backstory is that he thought it was a good idea to produce it.
No NO N O
I have a better one with the exact same backstory. TYE WHOLE BAND OF AJR AND ALL THEIR ALBUMS.
There’s a band that specializes in taking historical tragedies and making songs out of them, they’re called American Murder Song and they’ve written bangers about such classics as the donner party, Lavinia Fisher, and the year without a summer
interpol is a really good band people don’t understand how creative they will always have a special place in my heart no matter how dark it is
Songs with disturbing backgrounds are so fascinating to me.
“So fascinating”
OH I DIDNT KNOW THAT-
HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS. I HAVE THIS SONG IN A FAMILY PLAYLIST.
It was a shock to see Yukiko Okada again, ever since I had to cover her in a school essay, her story was really sad.
Would definitely look forward to a part 2 of this but maybe also ''Images With Disturbing Backstories'' would be dope
there is like thousands of videos about this on RUclips
@@ficolobo And? There are probably lots of vids just like this too. We don't care
for real
In my opinion images with disturbing backstories is played out
16:29 those lyrics are chilling.
Nirvana was the first band I deep dived into in my preteens, and they've been there for me in some pretty dark times because I know they'd been there before me, and with me.
i love the songs so much i didnt notice it was so dark before i searched up the lyrics
Paper cuts is also based off of real events
Honestly so many nirvana songs can be on this list there all pretty dark I mean they made endless nameless out of pure rage from not getting in bloom down
What’s Floyd The Barber’s meaning? Never heard it had a different movie.
It's about drug addiction and someone losing themselves (and everyone that loved them) to the disease and then ending up wishing they could get out of the grasp of addiction.
such a good song but when you know the lyrics ahhh
Evil is one of my favorite songs and I’m really mad that it’s been around for THIS long and it took me watching Orphan: First Kill to discover it.
I would love to see a second part with Major Tom by Peter schilling. For what I know it was inspired in a cosmonaut named Vladimir Komarov, the first person to die in a space mission. The backstory it's a little extensive because it involves more songs by the artist David Bowie but I think it's worth mentioning
Jeremy has the best buildup and overall foundation for a song that I’ve heard… lyrically, it’s so meaningful… love this song
I love jack stauber
The Ballad of Hamantha too!
I always felt the song was about calling a suicide hotline, like someone who is dealing with the death of a loved one and having to call a suicide hotline so they won't end up on the same situation...
@@gimmeyourankles thats what i always thought as well! Its really interesting to see how many different ways his music can be interpreted
jack stauber fans when they overthink some goofy ass song about some bitch with a piece of ham for a head:
That last one made me actually have my jaw to the floor (which doesn’t happen often considering…it’s the internet you’re gonna see or hear a bunch of crazy stuff)
Officially subscribed! I hesitated because I struggle with my mental health and some of your videos can be quite dark and depressing, but I love your attitude (you keep it light without being inappropriate about it, which A LOT of people can't do) and the content in general. You've really been doing a phenomenal job!
I would really love to see a part 2 of this! I've probably watched 10-15 of your vids and this is my fave! So many good song recommendations, which is AMAZING cause I'm far too lazy/busy to find songs for myself lmao
Edit: After scrolling through comments over the last few days, I have 40 songs to listen to!
I also recommended Gommenne Gommenne too
In gomenne gomenne she also talks about cannibalism against her it’s pretty dark :(
Yooo vocaloid songs would be great. Secrets of Wysteria would be a great song too since it’s about one of the worst serial killers in history.
I never seen anyone else talk about babuchan their music is pretty out there
Bro Babuchan listener??? Based
Loved this video concept! If you do another part a song I learned recently has a dark meaning is Poplar St. by Glass Animals, as it’s about an older woman who repeatedly grooms young boys in her neighborhood told from the point of view of one of her victims.
Kinda sad Glass Animals is only known for how overplayed Heat Waves was
Evil is one of my favorite songs by interpol, I’m so glad it’s on here, it’s so underrated.
