    Fellsman and Northern Belle with other Trains at Carlisle:
    Plus a problem with points
    17 & 18 May 23
    Filmed on two days.
    On the 17th we gathered to see Royal Scot bring The Settle & Carlisle Fellsman into Carlisle from Crewe and Chester, travelling each way over the Settle & Carlisle line.
    The cement train ran down onto the S&C as did the 6K05 Engineer's train and The Logs.
    The class 8065s were on another test run from Oxley (Wolverhampton) to Glasgow and back.
    After The Fellsman had gone to Upperby to be serviced and turn for the return run, I noticed that Down WCML trains were being held at the approach to South Junction. This caused some minor delays and meant that The Fellsman had to depart from Platform 4 instead of Platform 3 as scheduled.
    I found out afterwards that there's been a Track Circuit Failure at South Junction. We see the engineers, having got a possession, go and inspect some points on South Junction.
    When the 805 test train left, it did so under caution and with permission to pass a signal at Danger.
    On the second day, actually either side of a trip I made to Skipton and back, I found two Network Rail test trains in the Holding Sidings.
    TPE 395011 was sporting its Eurovision vinyls over the cabs. I wonder how long they will be retained - and in fact how long the bright TPE livery will be retained after the end of May.
    The highlights were the Northern Belle heading south from Edinburgh to Crewe top and tailed by West coast Class 57s and then the evening Coatbridge - Daventry Intermodal hauled by a pair of Class 90s.

    14:53 I first saw this steam locomotive at Blackpool Central where it was heading the train to Euston at 8am. It was in red livery in the late 1950’s as I recall??
    😊
    Another burst of nostalgia from another great video!!

      That's cool! Not sure it would have been red though - thought only the LMS Pacifics got red livery in the 50s. Was always great to see these locos back in the day.

      @@LeslieGilpinRailways ….further research revealed it was rebuilt in 1950 and was in crimson lake until then but not after rebuilding.
      Thus, it must have been 1950 that I walked down to the locomotive taking my grandparents to Euston on the first leg of their trip home to Brighton.

      @@theo-v7t apologies, I thought you were referring to a different video. Royal Scot would have received various liveries.

    Off the kicker... 05:30 That was a unique TPE loco going by "Welcome to Liverpool"... I liked it. A great array of trains, obviously with the Royal Scot being a highlight. The Fellsman is a new one (class 47?)... and did I see a Deltic? I really liked the 57 and the coaches for the WCR! That was classic and sharp- plus it was named Conwy Castle- even more special to me now. You did get a good look inside the 805 this time... all in plastic, but seemed nice! The DRS88 was also cool in that livery of "Keeping it Cool"

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад +2

      Thanks Anthony. The Fellsman was the name of the excursion train (no doubt there'll be more over the summer). Not a Deltic sadly just a Class 37. The West Coast Northern Belle stock did have two matching locos in Pullman brown and cream to go with the carriages, but as ever things get moved around.

    A steam departure from plat 4 is fairly uncommon. It certainly looks good, though you've got the drag of the curve there to make a little bit more of a challenge

  • @cedarcam

    They may just leave the branding on TPE like they have with Northern and LNER. Not sure what the point problem was. It looked like P way checking with a gauge the track around there does get a lot of hammer. Nice to see the steam charter as well

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад +1

      It depends on which parts of the branding is owned by First TPE. Remember the subtle change of logo on Northern. The Scot looked and sounded great
