    • @Tjalve70
      @Tjalve70 5 лет назад +139

      Baldrick hasn't been in the same clothes for the past 100 years.
      He has however inherited them from his grandfather.
      The reason why his father didn't inherit them, was because they had to wait for the grandfather to die. Which is why they have two sets of clothes in the family.

      Most soldiers during ww1 had little or no chance of uniform change. They marched out from Britain and literally entered into the frey wearing only the clothes they stood up in. Almost on a regular basis infantry soldiers de louesd their kit on a regular basis by running a candle up and down the seams kill any eggs and thus for a short time prevented infestation. These men suffered from cold and wet to exhaustion and malnutrition but they were expected to fight.

    Reminds me of a WW2 event we learned in school. A group of near-starving soldiers had been cut off from supplies and could go neither forward nor back. After nearly 5 days barely living off what they could forage they considered surrendering if only because they knew they'd get fed in POW camp. One private piped up with "We could always beat them, if we lose at least we won't have to worry about starving to death". After a few chuckles they decided they might as well go for it.
    After losing only 2 men (I think there were about 10) they ended up killing an platoon of about 25 soldiers and resulted in breaking a communications line for 2 regiments.
