I once got carried away with Giant Haystacks fighting. I was yelling galore, and Giant Haystacks heard me. He dared me to get in the ring with him. I challenged him to fighting me outside the ring. Oh boy, did I stand my ground. Which was NOT like me, the mouse. Lol He knew I was serious, and after a few minutes,he laughed and blew me a kiss and had the place appalled me. My siblings, thought I was a total goner. Lol He was a religious gentleman, and he had the most beautiful of bibles, which he read daily. A friend of mine actually met him, and he said the fighting was all an act. Him and Big Daddy were the best of friends. Thanks for the wonderful memories Giant Haystacks....Rest in Peace Sir 🌷🌷🌷
I was working in Chester probably 1979 they had the wrestling on in the sports centre I was training at, seen big Daddy etc big dudes but when Haystacks walked down the corridor never seen anything like it he was truly massive, we did talk to the wrestlers they were all true gentlemen.
Hi alan sharon here back when I was a teenager i lived below friends of Martin. When he called to see them he would sometimes dress as he did in the ring . He was such a lovely man and used to take time to chat to everyone he met. And yes he was so down to earth thankyou alan 👍
Hi, Sharon how interesting you should have got a picture :-) Martin seemed to be a very intelligent and funny man from the clips I've seen on TV, so it's nice to hear your story. I bet it was a bit of endurance being that big in the real world, but he used it to the best advantage... Thank for the interesting story
Hello Sharon, it's so nice to get a real-life account and what nice memories You should have taken photographs but then we didn't have phones all the time with cameras. Anyway, thank you for the comments. Alan
My neck of the woods Alan, I would call it Agecroft Cemetery salford...I loved the wrestling on a Saturday afternoon with Dickie Davies and there was definitely a rivalry between him and big Daddy. One of Salford's finest..RIP Giant..great guy..
Hi, Joe It was very much a big feature on World of Sport at the end of Saturday afternoon. A lot of people watch wrestling and I think Giant Haystacks and Bigg Daddy were the biggest stars...Literally. Thank you for the comment
Hi Alan, great video, thank you. Used to love watching the wrestling on a Saturday afternoon, you mentioned a few of the wrestlers, I used to like Adrian Street and Catweazel as well, do you remember them? Cheers. Martin
Hello mountain, the only one I've got a vague memory of is cat weasel But not Adrian Street. But I also watched the wrestling on the Saturday afternoons. Maybe not as much as you 😀😅

About 55 years ago, I remember seeing Martin Ruane wrestle under the name of The Big Hillbilly (or something similar, it was a long time ago) he was wearing a torn plaid shirt and dungarees frayed at midshin. He used several names over the years, including "Luke Mc Masters" before settling on "Giant Haystacks".
Yes, you're probably right. The only thing is I can't put long clips on because people are just coming in to see the grave really. But a good suggestion.
Hello QTM I heard that a few times he was the perfect sample of the gentle giants. A really intelligent man. He portrayed the angry but wasn't really. He was a great wrestler and great entertainer!.. Thank you very much for your personal memory. That's lovely to here.
Why would you make a point of mentioning his weight on this interview he was a big gorgeous guy seemed really lovely I rem him well when I was a kid bought many a happy hour riep sir xx
@@MotorHomeBeepBeepKendo Nagasaki was unmasked a couple of times in the 70s but more famously by Big Daddy. In more recent years Peter Thornley (as he is known) has made appearances & given interviews (can be found on YT) talking about those days. Where alot of these wrestlers didn't get paid much. He ended up in property development. His background is quite interesting & has since come out as bisexual. He's also done alot of charity work with Lee Rigby's mum.

Interesting video.. but why not show the end of the fight when Giant H went over the ropes onto the table? That’s the best bit!
