I was a big fan of Russell Harty, he was very intelligent and down to earth, he was blunt sometimes but he had a great interviewing style and was one of a kind. He died too soon. RIP Russell you are still missed.
He sounded posh but he hit the blunt question sometimes but it's made the program interesting. He was definitely a clever guy. What a shame he went so young thanks, Joan
Can't believe I missed this one as well.A great video.I always love your commentaries and personal comments. They are always so encouraging. You are definitely my favourite.
Hello Jacqueline, I always liked Russell hardy because he was such a swab gentleman but punched enter the guests with the interesting questions. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Thankyou for this visit Ive requested to other you tube channels to pay russell a visit but they havent done so as he needs to be included he was a legend and died way too young bless him thankyou mate
I remember his shows fondly back in the day, loved his style of interviewing and had some great guests (apart from Grace Jones!) Thanks for remembering him rip🌹 no age at all 53, so sad.
Hello William, Thank you, I will keep doing them. I've had a week off but I'm going to go back and do some more. Got someone that I enjoy so I hope everybody else does. Best regards, Alan
I was educated at Giggleswick School and remember Russell Harty well, so it was wonderful to watch this video. My old housemaster is also buried at the church as are some other teachers. Of course, their nicknames are not included on the headstones 😂
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep there is an old but true story about him when he was teaching. There was a play that was being rehearsed and some of the boys had to wear tights. Russel said, oh no, you boys will have to wear a cricket box to which one replied does that include those of us with small parts? 😁
BEEP - BEEP. Thank you for yet another interesting upload. Typical of the gutter press. I liked him. Seemed genuine. He has a bit in common with David Scarboro (the original Mark Fowler from East Enders). Both hounded by the press & Both passed in 1988.
I visited Russell earlier this week and I was shocked to see how filthy his grave was, no signs of any flowers having ever been there, it's such a shame.x
Hello Sylvia, that is how I sometimes feel on quite a few of the films. It does seem sad that these very significant celebrities in the public eye get forgotten sometimes. When I'm making the future films I'm going to leave something at the graves which will last. channel
Nice to see Russell Harty featured. He was a great interviewer and documentary maker. I believe (but this may not be true, anyone know for sure?) that he contracted Hepatitis during the filming of his documentary series about the Berlin Wall and how it divided a country and families. I’m not sure how he came in contact with the disease, poor food hygiene in a restaurant perhaps? I’ve no idea but however it was Russell remains a great loss to television. I loved his ‘Christmas at Home’ shows, my favourite was the one broadcast live on Christmas Eve (1981?). It’s a shame they are not available in full on RUclips. I think reshowing the Berlin Wall series would be a very good idea today given the current world situation as a reminder to us all what the consequences of warped ideology and land grabbing can lead to. RIP Russell.
Hi, Thanks for another great video!! I always had a soft spot for Russell Harty, the epitome of a gentleman really. I just wish his career wasn't distilled down to one incident - he was much more than that! So it's nice to see he's buried in such a pretty location, which suits him perfectly - nothing flamboyant but just a picture postcard location. Keep up the good work Alan!
I know exactly what you mean. Joe, He had that slightly aloof observation of his guests. That made it intriguing what it was going to ask them and they didn't show any sycophantic aspects usually unless it was somebody with a clever intellect. So unjust for the press to try and drag him into the gutter at the end of his life, but I think most people won't think of that at all. Thank you for the lovely comments. Hope I see you again. Regards Alan
They obviously had a great friendship. Richard and Russell, I liked both of them and it was a privilege for me to do the film of both of them. Thank you for the comment John
Russell was great at what he did, and went far too soon. I recall, that he was staying in the Randolph hotel in Oxford, when it caught fire, and he had to be evacuated from it. I stayed in the Black Horse in Giggleswick 44 years ago, on a school Geography field trip. That clock chimes all night and if you're staying in the rooms facing the church you will get no sleep whatsoever. That doesn't detract from Giggleswick - it's a lovely place. Speaking as a 'soft' southerner, Yorkshire's really not bad at all!
oh my giving away my age now, I so rememb er the night Grace Jones assaulted him, I liked Russel his interview techniques were really good and so genuine, but I had forgotten just how young he was when he died - such a sad thing, gone too soon Russel R.I.P.
He interviewed Bowie at the South Bank studios and was quite adoring of the glamorous star who also performed Drive in Saturday and My Death. However when he later interviewed Bowie in L. A. via satellite, Harty was either very poor in his research on the subject or was perhaps particularly trying to rile his subject matter by pretending not to know the name of his latest film and other trivialities. One has to wonder what on earth was going on there, what a shame he never explained his performance. Thanks so much for finding his final resting place, a very interesting character.
@@islingtonfreenewsmedia I can't not really comment because I didn't see the second interview. I'll look for it but normally Russell was very in tune with his subjects. I would often find their Achilles Heel but I will take note of your comments. Thank you, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Baffles me Alan, I truly belief that Grace Jones wouldn't get away with humiliating someone on TV like she did these days, and as for the tabloids, well in some ways thank god they are not the only way we get the news today...saying that they would stoop to nothing to get a story out there..no regard for the consequences...I am not a bitter person but don't like how some people are preyed on famous or not...great film keep it up..
@@johorrocks8927 Grace Jones also made Roger Moore's life hell when she was in the next dressing room to him on the Bond film, she played extremely loud music constantly. Thanks and RH was one of the old 'chat shop hosts' like Terry Wogan and Michael Parkinson. I think Grace Jones was 'high' and she said she hadn't slept for several days. How did RH stay 'so cool' when GJ was giving him some s*** in front of that other guest? Sad he dead so young at 54.
Hi Barry gree, but I suppose it is nearly 30 years ago even though it doesn't seem it. I'm going to have to remember to take flowers in future so we can all celebrate the film with our memories. Best Alan
