    Splatoon 3 is a 2022 third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the third game in the Splatoon series following Splatoon 2. Like its predecessors in the Splatoon series, the game consists of online multiplayer (player versus player and player versus environment) alongside a single-player campaign, all featuring combat based around ink.
    The game was first revealed in a teaser trailer on 17 February 2021 and was subsequently released on 9 September 2022. The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its additional maps, single player campaign, customization options, and gameplay mechanics, but criticism for its matchmaking and disconnection issues and lack of new content. As of 31 March 2023 Splatoon 3 has now sold 10.67 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise and one of the best-selling Switch games.
    The co-op player versus environment (PvE) mode Salmon Run returns, titled Salmon Run Next Wave.The main goal is to collect Golden Eggs, obtained by splatting special enemies known as "Boss Salmonids", and carry them to a basket. Salmon Run Next Wave uses the same basic gameplay as it does in Splatoon 2, where the player, employed by Grizzco Industries, teams up with three other players to fight waves of enemies known as "Salmonids". If a player gets splatted, the game's version of getting killed, another player can revive them by shooting them with ink. If the quota for eggs is not met within the time limit or the entire team is wiped out, the shift ends. Each "shift" typically lasts three waves, though, in Next Wave, a fourth "Xtrawave" sometimes occurs, where players team up to fight a King Salmonid. By successfully meeting the quota of golden eggs for all waves in a shift, the player can increase their rank within Grizzco. Next Wave adds the ability to throw golden eggs along with new enemies and new "Known Occurrence" events. Salmon Run is also no longer limited to certain times of day; players are able to access Salmon Run at any time, even during Splatfests. A new addition to Splatoon 3 is "Big Run", an event where Salmonids invade the city of Splatsville. Players defend Splatsville by fighting invading Salmonids on an online competitive map, instead of the unique stages typically used for Salmon Run. After a few days, the event ends and participating players receive a prize. This event occurs every few months. There is also another salmon run event called Eggstra Work where teams compete to get the most golden eggs in a set of 5 waves with the same enemies and weapons.

    Genuinely, uninkable walls have become one of my biggest issues with some salmon run stages. It can be done well, to increase difficulty, but in most cases it’s just frustrating and causes me to have to go a far distance that could have been much more easily traversed with an Inkable wall. Marooners bay is a great looking map, with the big broken down ship in the middle as a set piece, but it totally fumbles with the propellers platforms and terrible tide variations.

  • @strawberryshortpup3655
    @strawberryshortpup3655 9 месяцев назад +38

    Separate point from my other comment so I'm making a new one-
    Another thing that makes Marooner's Bay just that much more annoying is when you and a coworker are both down on the sides of ship. Salmonids are coming and you both are reaching for the propeller platform. Then your teammate inks it the moment they get on before you do so you can't get on the platform, so then you have to wait for it to come back down, or just die at that point.

    • @Ronald_McAura
      @Ronald_McAura 9 месяцев назад +1

      The best way to avoid that is to ink the walls beforehand! A good habit is to always ink the most used walls in any Salmon Run stage, and the propeller platforms have walls that can be inked! Hope it helps tho

    • @strawberryshortpup3655
      @strawberryshortpup3655 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@Ronald_McAura I'm aware of that yea, but the propeller is the fastest way up and the salmonid mucus can hinder that, such as when a stinger was trying to fuck you over from the other side of the map beforehand. You might not have the time to reink the wall before you're beat to death by a bunch of chum.

    Also, I hate the non-inkable walls, but I never managed to put together how the basket is in such a weird spot compared to other salmon run maps, with it being in a place salmonids can only come from one direction. I can add that to the reasons the map annoys me!

    As someone with a 999 badge of marooners bay I personally don't find the map as horrible as spawning grounds, also glow flys is a joke if you have a brella/roller because all brella shields can kill the lessers while providing paint, breathing room and chip damage while rollers just stand there menacingly

Especially because they're not making one or more new salmon maps every 3 months, so they actually probably HAD time to proof check decisions and such.

    As someone who actively plays Salmon Run at high ranks, I’ve always been interested in people opinions on the maps and Marooner’s has always been interested to me. I can definitely see where you’re coming from in your frustrations and Marooners isn’t a easy map to learn, however I really enjoy the stage as it’s one of the few Salmon maps that makes you tackle it differently and change your strategy, as the other 4 maps we currently have all follow a similar strategy that always works. I think Marooner’s is a great map to teach people about not always over luring, and Snatcher optimization as for events like high tide, you don’t want the basket to be overwhelmed so you have to push forward making sure to filter out lessers and bosses like Steelheads, Lids, Stingers, Eels, and Flyfish. I find that the elevators are actually really useful in a lot of ways, for example you can lure bosses like Scrappers onto the elevator to bring them close to the basket instead of having the drive all the way around and wasting time, also since the elevator wall are inkable, it makes it easier for a teammate who’s late coming to the elevator be able to easily swim up to the top. On Marooner’s you want to maintain control of the ship, bosses right of of basket can all be dispatched while bing on top of the ship, while bosses left cod ship can be lured to a point where you can splat them. Really the key to overcoming Marooner’s is lesser management, a lot of the problems with the stage feeing overwhelming and having a difficulty making a comeback is because lesser management is still a skill the general player base isn’t familiar with and this skill can be applied to all Salmon Run stages. I disagree with the difficulty on night waves, on Tornado you don’t have to be pixel perfect, though an amount of procession is needed to throw eggs onto the ship, more so on the right side of basket than the left, but this becomes easier with practice. Glowflies is probably the easiest on this map as all you have to do if you’re targeted is stand right side of basket and all the Chums and Goldie’s will filter to the right, and if you have someone to filter the Chums it becomes a cake walk. I feel a lot of the frustrations directed at Marooners comes from lack of experience and unwillingness to practice and learn due to frustrations, Marooner’s becomes easier the more it’s played and the more experience gained and I would recommend to anyone who wants to get good at playing Salmon Run to play Marooner rotations and practice skills like filtering and lesser management it genuinely does help a lot and you’ll walk away a little better at this underrated gamemode.

      I couldn't be bothered to read all that but as a fellow player who plays at high ranks I 100% agree with the stage having a unique strategy which although hard to learn for casuals is so fun and challenging that I feel rewarded for my work rather than half falling asleep on the other maps especially on the early grind. This map definitely requires the most salmon run knowledge but if you have players who knows what they are doing it will go smoothly most of the time despite the challenges. I think the challenge of this map actually makes it one of my favourite because I want to be challenged.

    DOES SPAWNING GROUNDS HAVE COMPETITION⁉⁉⁉⁉🔥🔥🔥🔥

  • @Cris_Blu
    @Cris_Blu 9 месяцев назад +6

    I think I can agree with you in some regards, but I disagree on two points.
    1. it would be nice if the walls of the boat were inkable, but salmonids only being able approach the basket from one angle is a huge help in terms of getting a random team to coordinate; you of course still have to jump off to deal with the long range threats but the swarm coming in is easier for a smaller amount of teammates to deal with.
    2. On solo queue I much prefer glowflies on Marooner’s bay than especially Sockeye for the exact reasons you dislike it; you’re not **supposed** to be hiding on a wall while during glowflies, you need to be shooting and you need to be near the basket.
    It is infuriating when on sockeye, half the team is like, “let’s go to the pillar and fight here” and then we lose because expending ink to throw eggs from that location isn’t that feasible, or that one fucking guy who is like “hey did you know you can stand here and be immune to salmon attacks” THAT’S GREAT BUT CAN YOU HELP US WITH THE FUCKING WAVE?
    Honestly some stages are better than others, and ultimately the best strategy is one all 4 members will commit to; but that’s what makes marooner’s bay so good, there is one obvious strategy and it’s also the optimal one! And you don’t have to worry about people trying to do different things. Thank you coming to my Grizzco talk

      I've also seen people complain that mid tide is too big, and 100% I agreed in Splatoon 2, but egg toss in 3 makes it more manageable. Used to suck getting eggs from the farthest end of the map to the basket

      Honestly even with egg throwing, the size and layouts of maps can be a pain in the ass because of how they split the team apart. Shore bosses in Grounds will frequently (or in Flyfish's case, Always) spawn in completely opposite directions from each other, forcing players to either ignore them, or be tempted to run off and die miles away from everyone else, accomplishing nothing until they finish the crawl of shame back to mid.

    I honestly thought Marooner's bay was fine back in splatoon 2. Not great, but perfectly mid as far as salmon run stages went. The elevators were annoying, but they did encourage an element of teamwork that a simple wall couldn't (waiting for them to join you on, or raising it ahead of time if you know the walls are inked for them to follow). At high tide the funnel design of it provided an interesting challenge that was difficult in some ways but easy in others (all the eggs are right in front of you, all the salmonid were grouped up for you rather than coming at you from all sides, etc.). It wasn't the best, but I'd always take it over something like lost outpost.
    In this game though literally none of that applies, lol. The elevators that used to add much-needed challenge are now just a nuisance, the docks that were a bit dicey before are now a death sentence, and the high tide waves that used to be manageable are now an impenetrable wall of fish and metal, with no sting ray to save us.

    Maybe Marooner's Bay needs to have its elevators be put in places that would be hard to reach their ramps. So, like put both sides close to the egg basket, and then keep the ramp sections the same, letting the stage accommodate for whatever position you may hold.
    If you're near the egg basket, then take the elevators, if you're at the ramps then take the ramps.
    If you're beneath the grates, then get out as quick as you can, which shouldn't be that hard as there should be inkable area blocked off with an upper bar that you should jump up towards the grates using squid roll to get on top of them.
    Basically, set up the death zones and death traps and give players all of the tools in the world to be able to avoid them. Make the death traps easy to get to when there are no salmonoids making them dangerous, and make them impossible to get through when there are. Basically, if you play smart enough you can flip the tables on the Salmons and turn their death traps into your own by firing at them at a safe, easily defendable and escapable region.
    Game, film, comic book, and etcetera companies should start to pay me for giving out suggestions into the internet to fix their media.

Other than the elevators just being inkable walls, we could also add ink rails towards the end of the ship that go back near the net so people can lure to that area during high tide and not get trapped, it could be the first salmon run map with ink rails (not grind rails like arc polaris mind you)! However they'd have to be balanced so they can't be abused, but I think it's possible. The net being in such an edge spot is annoying but I feel it could be kept as a defining feature of the map, they just need to make it more bearable.

    I wonder how you feel about Smokeyard since it’s coming back for Drizzle Season 2023? I personally don’t like it due to how players on propellor platforms often use them and not even wait for the nearby teammates to get on, then make them miss the platform and fall to their watery doom. Glowflies is horrible on that map, especially on high tide imo. It doesn’t mean I think the idea is bad, I prefer the low tide of Smokeyard because it doesn’t require them.
    The cannon mode in Marooner’s is terrible since like one of them has a huge blind spot, and another on the top of the ship is almost unusable due to the cannon there not being able to aim further down.

    I don’t think that the propellers should be replaced with walls, but maybe they should be reworked to be like mini-baskets, where eggs can be thrown onto the platform, and every time it goes up, it launches one egg like a big shot cannon. This will give players reason to use the propellers, and more walls can be paintable to give players legitimate choices between paths to take.

    I have the same opinion. Back in Splatoon 2, it was actually the only map in the game mode I didn't like. Despite that the map feels better in Splat 3 than in Splat 2, it is also my least favourite map in Splatoon 3.
    The problem is that the devs doesn't do any changes on the map itself. Those are the exact same maps like in Splat 2. And I guarantee that Salmonid Smokeyard will be Salmonid Smokeyard from Splatoon 2 and nothing more. I mean, it's just lazy, keeping bad maps bad, instead of improving them.

    I don't think Marooner's Bay is a bad stage at all and I don't really agree with the points put out here.
    "You have to constantly fire ink at them" - This could be considered a problem if the elevators took more than half a second to reach the top. The clip you chose to use even demonstrates that slower firing weapons like blasters don't even need more than single direct shot to operate them. You will only be punished by the elevators if your ink management has been so poor that you literally have nothing left to shoot with.
    "Salmonids can use them" - This can actually be used as an advantage! You can help bosses like scrappers take a shortcut to the basket by stalling them on the lift and holding it up for them. On the other side of the coin, eels are too large for the elevators and will deaggro the moment you step foot on one. Keep this in mind if you really need to get them off your tail.
    "I can be knocked off while using them" - If you ask anyone familiar with Bay for advice, the first thing that'll likely come to mind for them is INK THE ELEVATORS! Inkable walls do in fact exist on this map and they're on the sides of the lifts, use every precious second you have between waves to get them painted. If your weapon is ineffective at painting walls, you can use it to hold up the elevator for a teammate that can paint it faster.
    "The boat makes it difficult to reach split up teammates" - Use the elevators. If you're on the right beach and need to revive Tim who's gone off to the docks, take the elevator onto the boat and toss a splat bomb at him. Splat bombs are an extremely valuable tool for awkward revivals and are made even more effective here as the height difference from being on the boat allows you to throw bombs much farther than you would on ground level. No crossing all the way to docks required, you revive Tim faster and get back to what you were doing sooner.
    "Inkable walls would be better than elevators" - Having regular walls in place of elevators would have some benefits but I suggest that getting rid of the elevators would largely create more issues than solve them. As I mentioned earlier, some weapons are not as effective as others when it comes to painting walls - think rollers, brushes, some slower chargers etc. These weapons don't have the ol' shooter privilege™ and have their survivability while shorerunning increased significantly thanks to the elevators. Sure, the walls can be pre-painted but we both know that stingers are VERY prevalent on this map and those jerks love to mess up valuable wall routes with their lasers. Not to mention the plethora of other bosses that can easily spread paint to the walls while doing their thing like Steelheads, Fish Sticks, Flyfish and... MAWS. Maws can and will use these hypothetical walls to get up to basket and get their sludge all over them, so their mere presence now dooms any weapon that can't quickly wall paint.
    "Low tide sucks" - It really doesn't, in fact its pretty universally agreed that Bay has a solid/good low tide and is by far the best and most lenient portion of the stage. Its similar in design to Spawning Grounds low tide but significantly less dumb/punishing. The length of the routes and their proximity to basket is significantly scaled down compared to Grounds, meaning lurables get to you much faster and you have to get through less to manage the statics. The only slightly rough part is the right peninsula having only one way in and out, but its only one awkward spawn zone to look out for as opposed to Grounds having all three. Just be a little patient with the peninsula spawns and be mindful of knockback so you don't take an unwanted swim, you'll be fine.
    "No spots to hide for glowflies" - This is unfortunately something you'll have to put behind you as a whole if you want to improve your handling of the glowfly rush on every map. For Bay specifically, the target needs to be standing just behind the right grate leading out of basket, this position will force all salmonids from every spawn point to funnel down the right side of the boat allowing everyone on the team to easily destroy the oncoming rush before they reach you. Non-targets can take more aggressive positions further away from basket to take out chums earlier and relieve pressure, just make sure you have a way to safely get to the target spot should the flies switch to you.
    As an endnote I don't blame you at all for having formulated any of the opinions you put forward in this video, Marooner's Bay is a weird stage! It has a very unique design that requires a pretty different approach to your average Sockeye Station or Hydroplant, the best advice I can give you is to not feel discouraged by your losses on Bay and keep at it. Knowledge and experience are super important for improvement in Salmon Run, you'll find yourself handling Bay much better if you learn more about the map and avoid shying away from playing when its in rotation.
