Years ago I loaded cast 110 grain over 4227. Nice plinking load, then I had the idea to swag and lube 00 buck. I couldn’t find my notes on those. Remember that pillow stuffing becomes part of the bullet weight so don’t use too much. Single shot not tube feed.

I don't shoot sub sonic but I do load it with 125gr Sierra 125gr HP/FN bullets pushed by 35gr of TAC right at 2600fps, a nice hunting load. For practice I cast Lee 150gr 309-150FP bullets, I powder coat them and push them along with 33.0gr of BL-C(2) for 2000fps. It's a very accurate load and a blast to shoot, no leading and barrel cleaning is a couple swipes with a nylon brush and swab it out with a little Hoppes. I literally shot a thousand of them in the 30/30 but for fun/cheap shooting the 357 gets the nod with cast powder coated 158gr flat points and 8.0gr of 800x for about 1400fps or so. Deadly on beer cans at 50 yards.

Unique powder, Missouri hardcast, Winchester lrg mag primers = fun, deadly & dirt cheap to load . My loads are 1650 fps and will shoot through both front shoulders of a whitetail

I'm working up loads for 30-30 win using Vihtavouri N32C for subsonic but weather has hampered my efforts. The bullet I'm working with is the 160 Gr Hornady FTX. Since I plan to hog hunt with the load, I'm really trying to get the speed up closer to 1050 fps. My first loads using 8.0 to 8.4 grains were consistent but slower than desired.
@@czyhorse482 I'm killing hogs pretty easily with a 22 caliber using 75 grains. I'm looking more for maintaining bullet speed and consistent aim point. I think the bullet will do just fine on a hog out to 150 yards if I can get it to fly consistently on target. I've got to get back to the range with my latest loads and see how they fly though. If they don't work, I'll pick another bullet.
Would the 8gr round at 888 FPS still be enough to take down large game? Is the 30-30 still as impactful at these speeds? I am relatively new to hunting and just getting into velocity / subsonic shooting. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
I would like to see you try the heavier bullets in the 190 - 220 grain range I know they work great in my 300 Blk Out and 308. If they work good in 30-30 I'll just have to buy a new rifle . I'm sure my wife will understand.
We're going to be doing some more loading for the 30-30 for sure. I'm not sure my Glenfield will stabilize a 220 grain bullet... Maybe a 190. It handles 170's just fine at regular, 2100 fps, velocity.
Thanks for another great video. Can you do another one with a different powder. I just recently found out about these Barry's 150gr bullets and was going to build a load for Cowboy Action Lever Action Silhouette shooting. I used to use Trail Boss in my 170gr. "light" loads, but now it is impossible to get. Australia apparently making it any more. At least that is what I heard from a good source...I think. d
Thinkin' about gettin the muzzle of our Savage 340 bolt gun threaded. The little thing loves the Sierra Game King (now Pro Hunter) 125 gr at around 2400 f/s. Threading our pre-64 M94 would be problematic bcz of the full-length magazine.
Good for target or large varmints but for deer or bear I would go heavier on slugs . On my Swede I would shoot the lightest bullets maybe 85 gr. 6.5 with about 5 gr. of Unique. Out of a long bbl sounded about like 22mag .
Not 30-30 yet but I am shooting a Marlin 1894 CST in 357 Mag with a Dead Air Wolfman using hardcast 200 grain gas checked 38 Special over Trail Boss or a light load of HS-6.
You mentioned that IMR 4895 is often used with this bullet for reduced loads. Do you have a link to a site you can provide that shares this data or something similar? I have 4895 , 3031 4350 on hand and would like to see if I can use any of these for a reduced load.
That’s cool. I generally Iike traditional wood on levers, but that black suppressed 30/30 has me thinking, hmm. What about working up a suppressed deer and pig load with gel tests? Keep up the great videos…
Hi. if I wanted to use my .30-30 for home defense could it be loaded to take down the target without going through the neighbors house and kill the guy hiding behind the refrigerator.
I have definitely been wanting to get a 30-30 very similar to yours, definitely with a threaded barrel. My thought was also to try 8.5 gn and see if fine tuning around the 888 fps load might not yield better results. Just my thought.
Gavin to supplement your 30-30 subsonic load testing how about some 308 subsonic loads with the 190gr Sub-x bullets. It would also be interesting to see what these subsonic loads do when shot into ballistic gelatin and see if they are applicable for short range (less than 200yds) hunting rounds. Compare the 30-30 / 300 Blk / 308 in performance and accuracy.. How do they compare sound wise suppressed?
avoid jackets like the plague when you're going for sub sonic loads. Not only are they not needed, they inhibit expansion, no matter how fancy the bullet. Once you go subsonic, you are well within the realm of airguns, look at what they're using to hunt with, see any jackets? Many people and companies are now using pure lead (or just enough tin to get the molds to fill out easily), with very deep, broad hollow points on animals like deer and smaller. On things like Moose and Bison, people are using solids and shallow HP's. As far as different cases for subsonic loads, the smaller the case, the more efficient the cartridge (least amount of powder per shot), so long as you can fit the bullet you want in there. Smaller powder charges also generate less gas, and are more easily suppressed (quieter). .30 carbine is good with for subs with 175gr leads and Red Dot, assuming you are shooting them through a fast enough twist to stabilize them. Look for a rebated boattail design, with a 50%+ meplat, as boattails are nearly twice as efficient as flat base under Mach 1. If you're pushing them 1000-1080fps (sound is 1089-1120fps, depending on your air density), and are using an efficient bullet, you should be good out to 200 yards on deer with the 175gr in a .30 carbine, or 300yd on deer with a 260gr in something like a .300 BLK. Take 100 yards off that for Elk, to be on the safe side. Biggest issues with sub-sonics are compensating for wind drift and range estimation within normal hunting ranges, not lethality. If you want to hunt with subs for anything much more than elk, you should probably be looking at .40 and up. It's hard to stop an ounce of lead. When you realize .45-70-500 was generally subsonic by 100 yards, and they wiped out the bison with it (along with .50-70-405) (some bison shoots ranged out to 300 yards+), subsonic aren't that crazy.
Hodgdon stopped selling Trail Boss. I looked it up in the past and Hodgdon said there was no plans to release it in 2022. I can't find any update. This video was filmed a year ago. Can anyone buy it now?
hey man! great info! i have a question, what do you do with the left space in your brass, you can't fill all the brass with 10 gn, i seen people using cotton to fill that space and avoid double ignition and over pressure, what are your thoughts?
I reread my comment and ouly ment to say the 303 loaded about the same reduced load as 308, not the 6.5 x 55 or the 22-250 so don't use this data in them it could be dangerous. papa wishing you well and sorry about the the. mastakes.
Junior Trail Boss is overrated and overpriced, just use pistol powder like Titegroup or other, its not position sensitive and gives you better performance.

I just recently found out about these Barry's 150gr bullets and was going to build a load for Cowboy Action Lever Action Silhouette shooting. I used to use Trail Boss in my 170gr. "light" loads, but now it is impossible to get. Australia apparently making it any more. At least that is what I heard from a good source...I think. d
Listening with headphones really comes across for how silly quiet that suppressed rifle is
I think Guy dose a great job I like his KISS style
Thanks!
I love my Marlin lever gun (35rem)
What made you try 2.47" OAL when Berry's posts 2.55"
Good for target or large varmints but for deer or bear I would go heavier on slugs . On my Swede I would shoot the lightest bullets maybe 85 gr. 6.5 with about 5 gr. of Unique. Out of a long bbl sounded about like 22mag .
Oh ya, am not looking at this as a deer or bear load. Just for fun shooting, plinking at steel or other targets.
I believe Hiram Maxims first centrefire rifle suppressor experiment upon a 30-30 Winchester carbine.
Not 30-30 yet but I am shooting a Marlin 1894 CST in 357 Mag with a Dead Air Wolfman using hardcast 200 grain gas checked 38 Special over Trail Boss or a light load of HS-6.
You guys are great.
ah, trailboss… how we’ve missed you.
I'm on the quest for a suppressed/subsonic 45-70 load for the Marlin Dark series
Would you do a series on 458 Socom subsonic? And what are your thoughts on the new 8.6 blackout?
You mentioned that IMR 4895 is often used with this bullet for reduced loads. Do you have a link to a site you can provide that shares this data or something similar? I have 4895 , 3031 4350 on hand and would like to see if I can use any of these for a reduced load.
That’s cool. I generally
Iike traditional wood on levers, but that black suppressed 30/30 has me thinking, hmm. What about working up a suppressed deer and pig load with gel tests? Keep up the great videos…
how does the patreon work is there more detailed videos of gunsmithing and things of that nature
Hi. if I wanted to use my .30-30 for home defense could it be loaded to take down the target without going through the neighbors house and kill the guy hiding behind the refrigerator.
I have definitely been wanting to get a 30-30 very similar to yours, definitely with a threaded barrel. My thought was also to try 8.5 gn and see if fine tuning around the 888 fps load might not yield better results. Just my thought.
Breech Lock Challenger Press
Is trail boss even made anymore?
Nice 80 Series Land Cruiser.
Are the 150’s good for the 300 BLK out?
hey man! great info! i have a question, what do you do with the left space in your brass, you can't fill all the brass with 10 gn, i seen people using cotton to fill that space and avoid double ignition and over pressure, what are your thoughts?
Just the powder, no filler, no problem.
How in the heck did you find Trail Boss powder during this shortage..???
We had a dusty jug of it in the back room that had been sitting there for quite a while.
Could anyone tell me what the optic on the henry is?
You made it into a 9 mm carbine.
9 m/m mag = 35 Rem
I reread my comment and ouly ment to say the 303 loaded about the same reduced load as 308, not the 6.5 x 55 or the 22-250 so don't use this data in them it could be dangerous. papa wishing you well and sorry about the the. mastakes.
I've run a ton of sub 3030 loads using Berrys plated and have neve been disappointed
Nice- what’s your load?
How about a link to buy some of those bullets?
Look on the UR website, you can’t put the info you want on RUclips.
It stinks Trail Boss is nowhere to be found. They're not producing it until 2023 at the earliest. Great video as always!
Junior Trail Boss is overrated and overpriced, just use pistol powder like Titegroup or other, its not position sensitive and gives you better performance.
@@DimaProk is a forum I can go and check info?
@@DimaProk I have w231 if you were to use that what would be a good start point gr wise? Was kinda thinking the same around 10gr
@@fortstache8051Start with 4.5 - 5gr for subsonic. 10gr will actually push it close to 1500fps.
Why would anyone want a subsonic 30/30?
Guy is legit BDE
Wow!! as quiet as a BB gun....
It truly is!!!
Funn stuff!!
It was a hoot! I tried the loads in January and we put 'em through the Henry X model a couple of weeks ago. So doggone fun!
