Anyone who is scared. I had mine in 2005,I was 15. I just want to say take your time because alot of videos, doctors & nurses say " you'll be back in no time!". I just want to say YOU'LL BE BETTER IN YOUR TIME. Its been over 10 years for me. Physically and psychologically I feel good. Im able to do many sports and activities. But i did it in my time. Be gentle & kind to yourself you're going to make it! Jesus loves you =)

i always ask myself "why me?" but I guess that this is my destiny. It is a risk to take surgery but everyday we take risks. For example , when you go to school/work with a car/bus , the bus or car could crash. When you go shopping you might be robbed. But we still do it.
I hope I don't have to do surgery but if I have to I will because my back won't get any better.

I am 52 and had this surgery when I was 20. I wore a brace for 10 years before I finally had surgery. I had a double curve and they only fused the top curve. They were hoping the bottom one would straighten out, but it didn't and had to redo it and fuse the entire thing. Although it was tough at the time, it was well worth it. Shriners Hospital did mine, and I am happy with the outcome. I do not have back pain from it, I can pretty much do ANYTHING I want, I do not have limitations from it and as long as you continue to do exercises and take care of yourself - this won't be an issue. Most people are very surprised to hear I have metal rods in my back. I did a ropes course 2 years ago and was hanging 40 feet in the air. I did better than most people my age, so this will only be as limiting as you make it.

Hello, I apologize, I know this comment was 8mo but if you see this I have a question, if you don't mind me asking. This video was done 8yrs ago and alot of comments here are also made years ago. I heard most scoliosis surgery don't require a rod put in place anymore nor do they basically make a long cut (for lack of a better word) down your back anymore. I've heard and read it's more like they now fuse the bones together and make minimal incisions. I'm basically trying to ask if this is true, at least in your situation. Again I apologize for asking..

I had this operation when I just turned 14. Now I am 31 and I have just recently learned to accept that my spine will never be as it was. It is simply not true that you can just make a huge part of a person's spine immobile and then they will go back to "normal" afterward - it wasn't true for me anyway. I still love dancing, but I can't move freely so of course, it's not the same experience - even sex isn't the same experience - a flexible spine gives the body more freedom to be playful and feel sexy - I had no pain before the operation - my pain started after the operation. I actually went to a kind of chiro practitioner who could manipulate my spine back to its healthy position (before the operation) but my family couldn't afford the sessions so I stopped. It is what it is, and of course, there are people in this world living with much worse handicaps than an unflexible spine! I am very thankful for my life and all the body parts that still function perfectly

My son had this twice to correct scoliosis caused by missing half of his t12 vertebrae. The first surgery was immediately a problem. We were under the impression that he was going to be "straightened up" as he had a 42° curve. Instead, they fused it at that angle and used 2 short rods instead of the long ones that they said they were going to use. Less than a year later, the top of the top rod was so close to coming through the skin that we could read the writing on the end of it! Ended up at a different hospital and 18 hrs later, he had 2 26inch rods and 20+ screws. Because of the severity of the damage the first surgery caused, he is now in constant pain. It's been 13 yrs ago, and at 26 yrs old, he is unable to work, attend college, and has few friends because they tend to think he's not actually in pain. I can guarantee you that he is. There was a girl who was getting the same surgery at the same time and place as his first surgery and we learned that she also has had problems. Keep in mind, though, his scoliosis wasn't just a curve- he is missing half of a vertebrae. Shriners was where the first one was done. I will never ever recommend them.

I had this surgery. (This is only my personal experience the girl who was next to me had hers done and she was out of the hospital within 3 days.) but as soon as I had my surgery, I was waking up from the anaesthetic, my body went into fight or flight and I ended up punching the surgeon in the face Lol. I apologised afterwards. But fast forward about 3 months (now) me and my Mum noticed that my pain wasn’t getting any better. So we went back for a consultation and It turns out that they think that either them or I (when I woke up and was rolling around the hospital bed) had somehow pierced a nerve with one of the screw things. But I am on gabapentin. Which pretty much completely gets rid of the nerve pain so it’s all good now. I have a CT scan in a few days to see what can be done. My scar is my most favourite thing on my body I love it so much it is amazing!

I just had surgery for my scoliosis just a little over 2 months ago. My curve was originally 108 degrees before surgery but then after my degree was 20 degrees.
    I’m gonna be honest here.
The first weeks are horrible. Your gonna feel horrible and your just going to wish it never happened. Yes the surgery hurts after ward and you aren’t going to be able to move by yourself and you aren’t gonna be comfortable. The doctors are going to tell you what you can and can’t do, if not just ask. And no the rod isn’t going to snap if you get a medal one. I got a medal one and it’s fine you just won’t even be able to physically bend your spine so no back bends. It’s gonna hurt like HELL the 1st week but it’s going to get better I promise :) it’s going to be worth it!
I got to get out of school for like 2 whole months lol

I had this surgery 12 months ago exactly today. I’ve had 0 problems besides at the start I couldn’t bend over to tie my own shoes 😧. No one notices I’ve had surgery unless I show them my scar and I’ve had no back pain since the surgery. Btw the I think the best thing I did was getting back into calisthenics around the 6 month mark, just like pull ups and dips and I feel like that actually helped me heal and get more flexibility and slowly ease my body back into its old self

I’m lowkey scared if I get paralyzed or if my back has even worse pain (if I don’t get paralyzed) after the surgery. Will I be able to play sports after that? Will I be able to jump? Will I be able to land on solid ground without breaking my back? Will I be able to run? Will I be able to move fast?, pick up heavy stuff?, or even lay down on my stomach when I sleep?.
I’ll update it in about 3-5 months after my surgery.

      if u what some answers:
after my surgery, like two weeks, the first thing when i got home was lightly kick around a soccer ball through the house in six months i could do anything it hurt very occasionally but it’s not as fragile as it seems u will be able to do all of those things and there is a very low possibility that u will be paralyzed
good luck , tell us how it went!

I had surgery, and the only bad part about the aftermath is the first 2 weeks in the hospital or at home. You're basically in bed sleeping most of the time, practicing to move around, and trying to heal. Doing physical therapy is the way to go afterwards, so don't worry. Also, you WILL get used to it. The pain fades away later, but you will time to time feel pinches on your back, the screws, when it gets cold or if you're in a bad sitting position(that's what I feel most of the time anyways). To make it easier to heal, practice posture, do physical therapy, and get well!

About 4-5 months ago my doctor said that I will probably not grow too much more but he could still give me a back brace and recommend me to a physical therapist, I did everything he told me at that time my spine was curved 19 degrees but now 4-5 months later it’s now at 26 degrees, he told me it wouldn’t get this bad or progress this quickly but yet it did. Even though I did everything it sadly didn’t help at all just to anyone else who has scoliosis I hope the best for you and hope that your spine will not get worse in such a short amount of time

I had to wear a hack brace for two years. At first 16 hours a day. But it got worse so I had to wear it 18 hours a day, them 24 hours except when I shower. Then I had surgery at age 11 (almost 12) then I was in the hospital for 4 days then got to go home and then all the medicine I was on had caused me to stay home for a while because of the type of medicine. Even though I took medicine it still hurt. It's been almost 2 years and I still have pain, not that much but sometimes it hurts if I stand for a long time. I still try to stand up so I can get use to it. My doctor said if I have pain when I get older in my lower back they will do surgery again to help it. 🤪 Then I also had to have knee surgery because my left leg is longer then my right, so they had to stop the growth. I had that knee surgery a year ago. I have screws in my back and knee lol. If anyone's scared the pain normally last only for two weeks and you will get some pain after but sometimes I barely notice sometimes 😬 but everything will be okay, God is there for you.

Either way you’re really toasted if you don’t get the surgery or not. It doesn’t really matter. If you didn’t take the surgery, the curve would’ve progressed anyway and by the age of 30 you’ll probably be faced with a depressing amount of back pain causes from the scoliosis. I wholeheartedly believe that scoliosis is not gonna fix and stabilize itself once you’re out of puberty.

Getting this surgery dine in a little over a week, had surgery last yesr for tethered spinal cord (all the way up) My scoliosis is over 50 degrees (not to 60) and I'm afraid that this will hurt more than the last. I hope this will help my back pain and fix my tilted pelvis.

@@TofiRUclips Im recovering from the surgery right now, and i dont lie lol.
It dosent hurt ALOT after the surgery it just feels like u cut urslef along ur back a bit. Sure, a couple days after the surgery it hurts quite a bit and because of all the painkillers they give you (hence why it dosent hurt when you wake up) in my experience, you do feel a lil sick.. but you recover really quick! Its only been almost a month after my surgery and i can walk around almost fine (though my centre of gravity goes everywhere) and i honestly feel way better than before the surgery! (Also you get to skip school for a while uwu)
      Hope this helped, Good luck!

Bro I feel like crying. I’m 18 and the doctor just told me I have scoliosis. I didn’t know it was serious until my older cousin told me how dangerous it was and now I feel like crying 😭

don't worry it is not dangerous and having a scoliosis doesn't mean that you'll have to do a surgery. This surgery is only when your back problems are really hard but I think that if you only discovered yours at 18 they are probably not that bad

It’s actually not very dangerous, and it’s very common, so don’t worry. ☺️☺️
