The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

A timeless classic. 1969 personified.
My brother named my niece, Bonnie Jean. He loves this song. She is now 53 yrs old. We called her Bonnie Jean when she was younger, now most people call her Jean. For me and my girls she's still and always be Bonnie Jean.😊
Wish we could go back to those days...
Are you serious??
You're not I'm sure, you just like that moment in time- I dig, that's your bag and it's all groovy
@gbh5912 100% serious. I had a sweet 69 Camaro, I never locked my doors, women were beautiful without tats and metal in their face...and music was good.
@@anderander5662
Haaa- true
I had multiple muscle, 69Super Bee being my top- I was a machinist so made unique brackets, ect from solid metals and/or alloys and lead was in gasoline-
Haaaaaaa
Driving buzzed was ok and guns were used with respect, I get it
But,, I don't ever wish to re-live anything, I love new horizons-
Turn off the fake news and live in the moment ~
Nothing else matters except right this moment and I love my gained wisdom, embrace it, we were having fun then cause we were dumb, lol
………..Yup! “No” to the following……..…..fear of covid, dismantling ……..(unrest) of world governments, downward of inflation, weaken global economic growth, high fuel and gas pricing, food was cheaper, high cost of buying your first home, weakening $$$, not as many wars, climate change, higher of crime rates……….Yet, life was quite livable back than and affordable………now it’s all DOOM and GLOOM of an settling world of uncertainty ….……..GREED and DESPAIR.😩😔😞!!
I don't! That entire year was horrendous for me. Especially October.
Love this song.❤
I was named after this song ❤️
How sweet. God bless you!
Oliver poured his heart and soul into Jean.
This performance was like a dream!
Males in rut make great performances, like Conway Twitty's "you've never been this far b4"
These dudes are literally growing antlers on stage, and females in heat are just as dashing like Celine Dion's " make you happy"
She's somehow peeling that masterpiece off without dropping to all fours, lol
All epic !!
I was a schoolgirl when this hit the charts . My bother, whose 7-year-older would tease me so bc I have teen magazines with pictures of all u had a crush on. So come that Christmas my brother got the album for me ..said it was to his sister bonnie Jean...still have it
Great story, thanks for sharing with us..
Super tale, big smiles
One of if not the greatest vocal performances in the Sixties.
I was a 2yo boy and I went with my dad on sales calls and I remember them playing this song a lot..
The fall of 69 was a great time; I met the love of my life!!!
I was on top of the world!!!
But in the spring of 70, it all came crashing in. She was going away to college that year and she didn't want to be tied down and told me we were through...😱
😳🥺😭💔💔
I survived, but never fully recovered...
This song keeps bringing it all back!!!
It was probably the best thing that ever happened to you!!
Instead of her lying, she told you the truth which really saved you from a bullet, you would have spent half your life trying to please someone who can't be pleased?
I'd suggest, if I may?
Instead of feeling pain when hearing this song, find this song as a celebration of your freedom-
Best wishes
earing this song and
A beautiful song and video! "Jean" was Oliver's biggest hit, charting at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Written by Rod McKuen.
Oh.. Rod McKuen.. that explains the magic in this song. 🎶
@@finallybrainunderstood479 Yes, he wrote a lot of beautiful poetry!
And Produced by Bob Crewe.
AnninGG, it was the theme song of the movie “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” (the movie that earned Maggie Smith her first Oscar).
Original is from rod mckuen !!!
I wish this had beat out that Burt Bacharach song for the Oscar!
Thing song has one of the most beautiful bridges I can imagine.
Some songs invoke happy memories and can be uplifting no matter what is going on in life. This is one of those songs.
You said it, things so dramatic demand our full attention-
youngsters think we didn't like the person on stage 'cause we are silent but they don't understand true respect yet
I loved this as a 13 yr old and still do at 67,what beautiful times we lived in, TY!!! ❤❤❤😢
unfiltered vocals
You just have to watch The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie. An incredible movie!
Love that movie!
With such a beautiful and soaring tenor voice, I still don't understand why Oliver didn't record many songs.
This was Played at my grandmas funeral,Who was called Jean. And with my name being Oliver this song always brings back memories. Beautiful song
One of Oliver,s biggest hits ever :) Just beautiful ....
Real born name " William Oliver Swofford " passed away with cancer Feb 12 2000 :) He was just 54 year,s of age :)
RIP Oliver you are truly missed....
I will always remember Oliver .....Good Morning Starshine ......also beautiful......
Thanks for pointing that out. Sad.
One of the most unique and underrated voices ever
Are you sure about the age, because he would have only been 3-4 years old when this was recorded. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
@@georgemusic4all4seasons I went back and did a Wikipedia and Google search stage name ...... " Oliver " was 24 years old when this performance was done in 1969....I also searched his real given name " William Oliver Swofford " again 24 years old when this performance was done 1969 ..:) I hope that clears things up .....Have a nice day.... " Oliver " was 24 years old in 1969 :") ...
It's actually Swofford... 🤫
What an awesome Voice 'Oliver' had.. Sadly passing away back in 2000.. He''s buried in the same cemetery as Stevie Ray Vaughan.. Laurel Land Cemetery, Oak Cliff (Dallas) Tx..
What a beautiful song! This footage of Oliver is such a treasure. So happy they posted it. Love how Ed Sullivan's crew included the pretty girl in the video. Well done.
That was Bonnie Jean!
@@bruschmidt9943 Susan Dey lookalike! Could be just as well, the

Partridge Family debuted Fall c1970. This was about a year prior.😌
@@bruschmidt9943 Yes, I did say soon to be on Television, and , if not already on. I was not sure. But she still looks like Susan Dey a whole lot.
I want to cry every time I hear this song. Just….wow.
Beautiful song and no one can sing this better..hes made for this song.. I've always liked him
The guy sure could sing!! Thanks
I remember listening to this as a young kid in the late 70's riding in my moms car through town, or when she picked me up from school. AM 1140 radio.
WOW---I have ALWAYS loved this song, and Oliver, but I never saw this video of him SINGING this.
This is so moving, Oliver was such a beautiful singer.
So sad he died young, but so grateful that he recorded these incredible performances.
I'm glad you got this version- it gets bumped off RUclips off and on, so vid it if you love it or you'll be stuck with the cheesy vid version,,,or none?
@@gbh5912 what are you suggesting, how do you save it?
@@Dina-nm1nx
Just video it with a camera
@@gbh5912 Ok thanks.
A magic song😊😊😊
Her name wasn't Jean, but the song was her. And after 55 years, I still love her.
My moms name was Jean and dad loved to sing it back when it was a hit.
Absolutely brilliant performance. Great song great singer. One of my favourite songs.
I was driving a limo and picked up John Swofford, who was the commissioner of the ACC. This was his brother, who had passed away at a young age from cancer. John had donated bone marrow to try and save his life, but he died in 2000. I knew these things, and I knew about Oliver because growing up, my older sisters had his albums. I could tell it meant a tremendous amount to John that I brought up his brother, instead of just talking about ACC basketball, which is why he was in Charlotte. What a beautiful voice…
Nice but Sad story I so loved listening to “Good Morning Starshine” as a child it never failed to bring a special energy, im an old man now and it still does RIP William ❤️🙏🕊️
Great performance of that beautiful song. One of the best hits from 1969, a year that was loaded with great hit songs.
My favourite version of this song written by (Rod MCKEN).A talented song writer 👍BEAUTIFUL ✌😘😉🤗10/10🌹🌹🌹🌹💖
I was looking for this song since many many years and finally I found it. Accidentally, only because I was reading about others and found the name Rod McKuen and then suddendly ...
Rod McKuen....where.... when...

I love this song (Jean).Oliver Love's beautiful( Jean).n the clouds are so low you can touch them and so come into my arms funny (Jean))..
This makes my skin tingle I love this song modern music be it rap country hip hop should watch this and take notes .
A Fantastic Live Rendition of this incredible song performed by a very handsome and talented man, Period !!!!!
From the movie The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie with Maggie Smith.
A really beautiful song indeed.
In the UK, 'Good Morning Starshine' was his only hit in the charts and very popular in other European countries, too.
I do not know whether 'Jean' was released as a single in the UK or on the continent.
It was popular in Canada.
No Brasil, o maior sucesso de Oliver, foi Good Morning Starshine. Em segundo, Jean.
My Aunt name was Jean she was so beautiful this song reminds me of her
People. This song is so perfect for the movie..The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Sometimes hard to find, but so goddamned good. Kids, some old movies still matter. Easy to understand and follow and the subject matters still make a perfect movie.
One of my most favorites of all time. A beautiful and romantic rendition from Bill "Oliver" Swofford. I was heartbroken when I learned of his passing in 2000. Still, this video is timeless and feels like yesterday.
What a beautiful young woman! I remember when women looked like that.
This is absolutely gorgeous... it touched my heart ❤ and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing! 💖
Great song from a great movie.... Maggie Smith Oscar winning performance. That final scene... "ASSASSIN!!!! ASSASSIN!!!"
With full echo effect!

The best performance
Oh my goodness it's been so long since I've heard this song. How could I let that happen. This was one of my absolute favorite song of my youth. Just an amazing song and artist

So beautiful...music has changed...rarely hear a real singer...evokes emotional response...like music used to.❤ I was in kindergarten when this was popular..I remember it all these yrs later.
Without words Oliver. Great interpretation. I Love Bonnie Jean. After Good Morning Starshine...Jean. Thanks Sullivan
The movie The Pride of Miss Jean Brody gave me the first look at a school teacher having feelings and a life of her own. Maybe even a new respect for them.
Great clip! Great song!
A magic song😊😊😊
Lovely song 🎵 Great film 🎥 starring Dame Maggie . Who sadly passed away at 89 RIP Maggie xX
I will always wonder as much as I love Oliver’s version what Gary Puckett could have done with this heartbreakingly beautiful song??Back in 1969-70
Great song!
Some would call this schmaltzy but it was very soulful and unique.
What a superb vocalist
Maravilha !
Wonderful !❤
This is an excellent performance. Oliver had a terrible stutter that you can hear in Good Morning Starshine and in how he pronounces the word "roses." Good work, Oliver.
Yeah wanna go back in time ! Anyone want to come with me ?
I wish I could go back to 1970. Has to be after October because I don't want to relive my mother having surgery because she almost died.
Love it !

Head that the star of "Miss Jean Brody" passed away today...Rest in peace, Maggie Smith,
Wonderful !!! From Wilkes county, N.C. right ??? Almost next door to me !! Time Machine please !!!
Yes, it's where I live. William "Oliver" Swofford's family owned Swoffords a store here in the 70s & later were part of the Hardees chain. He used to visit the radio station where I used to DJ a lot. Was a a real nice guy!
Wow! Never heard of this singer before. Neither this song.
Godspeed, Dame Maggie Smith.
Oh man my little sister and I watched “The Gong Show” where this dude “Gene Gene the dancing machine” would come out and do a little dance.
We would sing this tune (wrong at the ending)and sing “Gene Gene Dancing Machine, all the leaves are green and so are you…”😂 the ending was sung to the tune of “Hey there Georgie Girl” for some reason
RIP Maggie Smith (Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) 🙏🙏🙏❤

TESS broadcasts a music video!
In 1969 when I was about 8 years old we had a baby sitter named Jean and we used to goof on her by singing this song. With this presentation they made an already corny song even cornier.
MUSICA MUITO TRISTE.
No Glibby Glib Glooby, Nibby Nobby Nooby?
Well, surely he couldn't say, "Come into my arms Glooby Jean", could he?
Just saw this on ed sullivan last night I want to go home Now I don't belong here
His voice projection was phenomenal...and all without a Mic....Hmmmmmmm 🤔
He is sweating like crazy under. those lights. But. what a chalmer.
No surprise this was written by Rod McKuen.
1969
It was rumored at the time that Oliver wanted very much to work with Karen Carpenter. I wonder if both might still be with us.
Did anyone knows if hes still alive
Unfortunately, not, I think he died in 2000…🥲
I'd like to know who the woman is in the video.
Jean E. Carroll,,,???? AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH !!!!!
They just don’t write and sing songs like this anymore, unfortunately . . .
So true..
Did anyone know that oliver passaed away
Yes, I think in 2000, what a shame..
Jajaja
