I found him a little frustrating; his narration suffers a bit since he's obviously dividing his attention, so I would continuously get caught up in his faltering words rather than paying attention to the run itself. I prefer it when the couch has knowledge about the run and can describe it for us. That said, I can't fault the guy, he's clearly good at what he does.
5:25 "Weird crash, I can't really explain why the game can possibly crash, I don't know" *Random dude in the room* "It's a sonic game!" There's no possibly better answer
Sonic Adventure has one of the largest innovations in 3D camera technology and has an incredibly robust character physics system for the time of its development. It is also a Sonic game from the late 90's and even with those innovations late 90's camera and physics tech were not up to the task of a 3D Sonic game. Ambitious, groundbreaking, loads of fun, but no not very polished. The DX port even less so, and the PC port of the DX port even less so, AND the Steam port of the PC port of the DX port even less so.
I remember playing this on dreamcast and they had competitions for prizes using its online capabilities.. The leaderboards were people beating the levels in 4 seconds .. I used to be like WTF??
I love how his movement looks so similar to the way sonic moves in official animations, leaping a wall to wall. The only difference is how the optimal movement for corridors is the double spin dash spam instead of a normal run.
@@Fredcat11 Eggman tries to steal the phone but Knuckles successfully shatters it into pieces which are now scattered around the whole world. Only if all pieces are found then the mobile phone is fully restored.
I remember playing SADX for the first time and getting Egg Hornet when I was like 9 and beating Egg Hornet like that by accident my first time fighting it, but I couldnt do it after for some reason and never saw youtube videos do it and it made me think I imagined it. Im glad my loser kid self was inadvertantly doing a speed strat quick kill.
I spent SO MANY hours playing this game on my dreamcast when I was 10 and it had just come out Today I wouldn't say it's a great game but it's still a lot of fun and just as nostalgic as Sonic 2 which was my very first video game
you dont actually need to do that clip to get the crystal ring, you can just hit the button and spin dash into the door before it closes. no light speed dash needed either
It's a bit faster to do the clip into the crystal ring room (unless it's TAS). Thankfully, the crystal ring clip is very easy, flandre just forgot to use auto camera instead of free cam to make it more consistent.
So many of these skips would be impossible in SRB2 because the skybox is really just a wall with a virtual texture on it, lol. New games will always fall short in awesome level design!
To be fair that's most speedruns. Sonic games and collision don't really go too well together but most games that get speedran use a bunch of clips and whatnot. Not sure why Arin was surprised lol
Arin was right??? About what? He sucks at games, he hates sonic. Why should we give any credibility to that filthy-mouthed controller-fumbling idiotic individual?
Eggman: "Quick, ready our defenses, Sonic is coming soon" Bad Guys: "Roger" Sonic laying under a tree: "Oh you said my name" Eggman: "WHAT YOUR ALREADY HERE!!!"
I've had this game for ten years and I have hundreds of hours on record, and I've decided to start playing this on my channel. Maybe I'll try to speedrun some time!
/Watched that Game Grumps episode as well, forgot to actually look this up afterwards, somehow ended up here a couple days later anyway thanks to RUclips recommending it ^^;
Runner introduction starts at 00:50. Run starts at 1:10.
God bless
Ayy. I'm glad you also posted the runner introduction. That's where I prefer to start.
I was hoping it would be the whole game, but I guess this is good enough.
Props to the runner for being able to constantly commentate what he was doing as he was doing it and still doing it well.
yeah the runner is actually super entertaining but not over the top while still being informative. he's super cool
Fr
This is actually how Sonic would play his own game
Knuckles would just punch anything out of the way 😂
GOTTA GO FAST!!!
Damn, thant runner talks faster than Sonic runs.
He's just doing play by play for vision impaired viewers!
Gotta go fast
rapgods in chat.
gotta talk fast
I was just gonna say the same thing lol
I like it the most when the crowd is actively participating and cheers up the runner - makes it all much more fun
The super excited guy in the audience just made my day
Aki “BIG THE CAT! BIG THE CAT!”
the hypeman in the audience is Kirbymastah, just so that people know
believe me, i was the guy holding the plushies
XD good sir
Didn't know KirbyMastah gets hyped because of Sonic adventure's lol
Oh no introduction starts at 10:17. Oh no starts at 10:28.
Oh no!
Oh no
_Oh yes._
Oh no!
5:25 "Weird crash, I can't really explain why the game can possibly crash, I don't know"
*Random dude in the room*
"It's a sonic game!"
There's no possibly better answer
I want to know who that one guy screaming "oh no" throughout the whole run was. He is hilarious with the timings
indeed very random :P
"It's a Sonic Game!"
Russian Bot Haha I was going to point that one out lol. Gotta love the crowd, the one in the Brain Age TAS was pretty good too lol.
Sei Iori MORTAL COMBAT!!!!!
Sonic Adventure is an incredibly polished game.
/s
The Dreamcast version still got critical acclaim reviews.
Said no one ever lol
Sonic Adventure IS polished. Sonic Adventure *DX* isn’t.
The DX port even less so, and the PC port of the DX port even less so, AND the Steam port of the PC port of the DX port even less so.
>you miss the best music in the game by doing this skip
Strange, I don't believe Egg Carrier plays during the snow level.
KayneArcheron lmaoooo trueee
That’s a weird way to spell pinball minigame music
KayneArcheron e102 theme*
It doesn’t matter doesn’t play during ice cap, neither does most of the other music in the game
That's a weird way to spell Speed Highway 1
5:26
-i cant explain why it does that
-ITS A SONIC GAME
That one killed me.
I remember playing this on dreamcast and they had competitions for prizes using its online capabilities.. The leaderboards were people beating the levels in 4 seconds .. I used to be like WTF??
What type of prizes? And the people who beat the levels in 4 seconds are probably hacking
ah those annoying hackers
Hackers are still seen on the PSN/Steam/Xbox Live leaderboards for SADX.
Ok, 48 seconds on windy valley is reasonable but 4 seconds is just hackers
💀
I love how his movement looks so similar to the way sonic moves in official animations, leaping a wall to wall. The only difference is how the optimal movement for corridors is the double spin dash spam instead of a normal run.
I love how he had to make actual backup saves so the run could continue even if the save file corrupted during the stream. Oh Sonic Adventure DX...
"I'll play with you some other time"
You killed him, Sonic, you psycho
Hey, hell exists for a reason..
This run is amazing, the runner is so effortlessly cool about it all
That "oh no" was spot-on lmao
still not as short as sonic forces played casually.
I'm obsessed with players that are super informative and talk about info about the game or the speedrun that just casual watchers may not know
Such a good run, the crowd was more energetic than nowadays.
Exactly
They are more energetic then most ppl i see in movie theaters
I hope that guy got his phone back after he left it on the sofa.
Or if he didn't, he would have to hiring either Knuckles or Rouge to hunting it down.
@@Fredcat11 oh no
@@Fredcat11 Eggman tries to steal the phone but Knuckles successfully shatters it into pieces which are now scattered around the whole world. Only if all pieces are found then the mobile phone is fully restored.
this is how sonic was meant to be played
Yes, phasing through walls was definitely part of the formula
This video has been a massive help on my personal journey to speed run this game. I cut my game time from an hour 40 minutes to 45!!!
17:55 that music actually perfectly timed
This is amazing! Memorizing everything, timing everything aND commentating wow...
This was the very first game on the GameCube that set me apon the path of video games.
To this day my mother says she regrets getting it for me.
GET A LOAD OF *THIS*
Oh no.
ALL SYSTEMS, FULL POWER!
Something bugging you?
There's one guy in the back going nuts during this run.
woo!
BIG THE CAT! BIG THE CAT!!!
This dude is so wholesome. "You might be thinking, 'Well now you're stuck dummy', but no I'm not!"
why did we not play Gamma's story. I wanted to see the runners cry
Oh neat, Imakuni showed up
Great run and great commentary! He even timed the donation perfectly so it ended as he got the emerald!
As a Sonic fan, this is magical to watch. If I ever end up speedrunning a game, it'll be Sonic Heroes simply because I REALLY like Sonic Heroes.
Someone kept saying *oh no* and they were perfectly timed XD
Thank goodness he had a backup save file. He got it ready super fast, too.
Loved the run, happy to see this game get stupidly broken
I love speedruns, one of the best parts of gaming.
Well the game grumps said this games speed run is crazy, so scoot over.
"Casin-opolis"... I mean grammatically it makes sense, but that's the first time I've ever heard it pronounced like that. In 19 years.
smokebomb.exe How would you’ve pronounced it?
The grammatically incorrect-yet-colloquially-friendly "Casino-opolis." (note the two "o"s)
smokebomb.exe Fair enough.
Now, the definitive question: Hydrossity, or Hydro City?
Easy. THe way everyone says it: Hydro City (y)
smokebomb.exe Ok, phew. I’ve heard of people who defend Hydrossity to the grave and it makes me feel bad
I'm impressed that he can talk and speedrun at the same time
Love the fanart at the start.
Yeah! Is yo boy JustFlandre
17:54 The music timing was perfect lol
22:45 Imakuni best Vinesauce girl
the music between those 2 rockets was perfect, it ended as he jumped off the second rocket
Not even 5 minutes in and I am already impressed...
"Hey! I'll play with you some other time!" o_O'
Whoever decided to put the run at the start vs the end, great idea.
So does anyone know who the runner"s hype man in the audience is?
I'm pretty sure it's Geoff (the Monkey Ball runner)
Kirbymastah
5:25 amen to that dude in the back.
This is my very first game when I got the GameCube
Is nobody going to mention how satisfying 17:55 is with the rocket timing perfectly with the music?
Ik
"Hi Tails!"
6:44 That donation was timed perfectly, flandre knew!
There we go lol thanks for the upload
Damn, the precision of his spindash jumps! particularly in Sky Deck!!!
impressive run, honestly DX is so much more fun with the bugs.
Thanks gdq for inspiring me to join the community, 2 days before the sonic stream I decide to start practicing and running this game!
Good thing he talks to u as he goes, keeps it interesting
I spent SO MANY hours playing this game on my dreamcast when I was 10 and it had just come out
Today I wouldn't say it's a great game but it's still a lot of fun and just as nostalgic as Sonic 2 which was my very first video game
it honestly is a great game, imo
Stop resizing the window! Bad IT
I love that guy in the audience screaming "OUH NOH"
Tails appears out of nowhere
Some guy in the audience: hi tails
21:50 That self-censoring. Nice.
Chaos 0: "That doesn't look too hard."
Emerald Coast: "At least it's easy to restart a stage."
you dont actually need to do that clip to get the crystal ring, you can just hit the button and spin dash into the door before it closes. no light speed dash needed either
But fast
It's a bit faster to do the clip into the crystal ring room (unless it's TAS). Thankfully, the crystal ring clip is very easy, flandre just forgot to use auto camera instead of free cam to make it more consistent.
Arin was right.... It's... Amazing
This is my favorite Sonic game ❤
Mine as well.
I recently finished this game and now i see this run and im speechless
10:28 love the running shine reference there.
In many regards, This plays like Classic Sonic but in 3D
Did not know that this game was this amazing.
Really precise and skillful speedrun
This run was also incredibly useful for getting my A mission Emblems
I did play so much this game in my childhood, is so funny.
So many of these skips would be impossible in SRB2 because the skybox is really just a wall with a virtual texture on it, lol. New games will always fall short in awesome level design!
just to clarify, this speedrun with the exact same tricks would be impossible on the dreamcast version
The port is held together with chewing gum and fan loyalty
me: takes 30 days to finish this game.
Speedrunners: 30 minutes
im here from game grumps and holy shit arin was right
I'm surprised there's not more comments like that
So am I!
never heard. why are you here?
To be fair that's most speedruns. Sonic games and collision don't really go too well together but most games that get speedran use a bunch of clips and whatnot. Not sure why Arin was surprised lol
Arin was right??? About what? He sucks at games, he hates sonic. Why should we give any credibility to that filthy-mouthed controller-fumbling idiotic individual?
My favorite speedrun
Ahh, this game is so broken. I love it.
Emerald coast: "fairly linear level"
Runner: *jumps over a third of the stage*
Gotta love sonic for that
He talks like a magician and I like it.
This stage is kinda linear...
*proceeds to skip half the stage
Eggman: "Quick, ready our defenses, Sonic is coming soon"
Bad Guys: "Roger"
Sonic laying under a tree: "Oh you said my name"
Eggman: "WHAT YOUR ALREADY HERE!!!"
*Switch tabs to Facebook while Casinoopolis is being played*
*Suddenly at Mystic Ruins*
When he said “Oh no 2”, that one crowd guy should’ve said *_”OH NO NO”_*
Sonic Adventure is awesome
Exactly
Love how this guy just casually narrates his run
Loved it. Great humor and explanations
12:35 I like that guy
A 3D Sonic game, BROKEN?! Never thought I'd see the day.
You’re watching a speed run of a game that came out in 1999
I've had this game for ten years and I have hundreds of hours on record, and I've decided to start playing this on my channel. Maybe I'll try to speedrun some time!
Taking "Gotta go fast!" to the maximum level.
Thoroughly enjoyed.
/Watched that Game Grumps episode as well, forgot to actually look this up afterwards, somehow ended up here a couple days later anyway thanks to RUclips recommending it ^^;
The guy yelling "Oh No!" reminds me of tripl3ag3nt's Sonic '06 run where the audience yelled "No!"
"imagine collision in a sonic game!"
My favorite line lmao
“ ITS A SONIC GAME “ I’m dying 😂😂
Good crowd, must not have been 5 am like every other speed run I watch
