- Be Honest, did you know The USS Voyager had the Aero Shuttle? This video will keep you entertained if you did or didn't!
The Aero Shuttle, a very poorly understood multimission auxiliary vessel based around the Danube-class Runabout hull, was integrated into the Intrepid-class design in 2368, just as the USS Danube completed its flight trials. Unlike Runabouts, Aero Shuttles did not receive unique class status or commissioned names.

The signature Quack Drive is what ultimately won me over here. Huge mistake not using the Duckmobile in the show. 🤦♂️
The Aeroshuttle was used in a Voyager comic 'Splashdown'. Underwater though, amazingly enough.
It's a shame we never saw this thing in action. I would have loved to seen it a few times before they built the Delta Flyer. Makes sense the interior is similar to the Runabout.
10:47 Damn. 😅 Paris was VERY really easy distracted, wasn’t he?🤣
How have I never heard of this!? This put a huge smile on my face. If someone told me about this being a thing, I wouldn't have believed them. Subbed.
Nice surprise to see my render included, thanks 😊
Thank you for such great work!
@@TrekCentral Made my day!
I loved the MIghty Ducks cartoon, might have to watch it again now.
"We're asauming it's a TARDIS." I see what you did there.
Some people are subscribed to Disney+ so they can watch Star Wars and Maevel contest. I'm subscribed so I can watch the adventures of The Doctor.
I just assumed Paris cannibalised the parts from the Aero Shuttle and put it into the Delta Flyer instead of entirely from scratch. All the benefits of a new shuttle, without the decrease in ship stability the Aero Shuttle being used normally would have done with that hole as stated.
Thank you Adam. Always a pleasure to hear your work 👍🏼
I've just thought of something that could, in canon, be a good way to do captains yachts and similar, like this, that would be interesting.
The section that said thing has could have the area be shaped like said thing. But, and here is the thing that could change it somewhat, the section flips on an axis, making the ship go from inside to outside. Which could keep what becomes a hole intact, and be a cool effect. This is on the simple premise there is no actual up in space.
the term "What about the Aero Shuttle?!?!" will continue to follow him throughout the years" it's in the same league as "what about the droid attack on the wookiees?" now...
But... What about the droid attack on the wookies?
Tea? Must be Earl Grey.
It is really a mystery to me how they never used this vessel in the show. It is one of the most beautiful ship designs in trek history, at least, in my book. Very swooshable.
...after that! The Aero Shutt--oh wait! I need to break warp 10.
I'm still waiting to see that future tri-ringed Vulcan ship...
They should have put the nacelles on the end of the wings and made them foldy uppy like Voyager.
11:05 I think the lower hull *is just a cover/ spaceholder* and the shuttle itself, as you said, wasn't ready yet OR they lend it out for a longer perioid and couldn't get replacement in time.
tldr: it happens. people forget their spare tire.
Most Star Fleet vessels of that point included these as Captain's yachts
So they had the resources to build the delta flyer TWICE but couldn't finish/upgrade the aero shuttle? All they'd really need to do to give it hot-rod status is paint it with racing stripes, which are scientifically proven to make things go faster.
I always liked the idea of the "Captain's YACHTS" ..BUT...their utility capacity..was sorely lacking in most shows. However..this was dramatically different in VOYAGER'S run..where I think at least half the time, it's utility functionality could have been a regular thing. However...Tom's special project, the FLYER.. was was what we got..and fell in love with..although..I always wanted to see the..unloved b6 Tuvok..more "hotrod" looking version put into production a little later.
Considering the Delta Flyer's late-run appearance
-I can't help but 'meta-canon' that the expected 'plot device functionality' of the Cpt's Yacht/AeroShuttle was 'belayed' and integrated into the Delta Flyer plot device.
(IIRC, this kind of "Belay that idea; it's not a bad idea but, not right now" being later wrapped-back-into the screenplays, was fairly common in 90s Trek.)
From car construction when you get a sunroof, the removed metal needs to get added around the opening...so actually the roof with the sunroof is structurally stronger.
Going with the same concept into the AS docking bay, I assume that the room/opening/hole has the same structural ratings as the hull and Shooting into the opening would have the same effect as shooting at the hull.
Now it gets interesting.... since when docked and no one wants to have a weak spot that can cause a massive explosion (maybe they fill it up when getting ready to leave) and it should not get disabled by a single hit, I would guess the underside is massively armored to a grade to get it comparable to the hull. That would make even more sense when thinking about the concept of in atmosphere operations and landing...having an armored underside with engines sitting on top.
Shooting at the aero shuttle when docked would be shooting at the strongest part of the ship...just use it as reactive armor when a torpedo closes in.
I would say the aero shuttle was never docked into Voyager, it was just a blank cover. When AS was still not completed and maybe in the testing phase, why dock it into Voyager...makes more sense to keep it at the space dock and just cover the hole.
That would be literally like picking up your new car, the dealer tells you that the second set of wheels is not ready yet, but they just threw the rims and tires in the trunk and you can bring them back...makes no sense.
Just hail Voyager that she shuttle is ready and swing by to pick it up...since it won't complete itself when sitting in the hull
Also known as "The Captain's Yacht"
i always assumed the aero shuttle was the intrepid's version of the captains yacht on the galaxy class (eg picard's Calypso/Cousteau on the enterprise d)
Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer LOL
Runabout video next
Ooohh yes!
In-universe, one could also suppose that the crew members who built Voyager’s Delta Flyer got some of the necessary parts, by cannibalising the Aeroshuttle. If it wasn’t complete, it might as well still have some use, amirite?! 🤷🏼
My guess is that the ship was sitll missing parts and werent going to be installed until Tuesday, remember Voyagers hadnt even had a proper shakedown before it was flung to the Delta Quadrant.
10:46 as 'slapstick' it could've come-off as, It'd've been 100% w/in Paris' character to 'overwhelm himself with projects'.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that *was* a part of the 1st-drafts scripts, and the romance w/ Torres would've interrupted his completion of the AeroShuttle.
At the least, that'd've made Paris a HIGHLY relatable character. Perhaps, it was dropped for being a little too real? 😂
(That, and it'd make Voyager seem like a Light Carrier and take away from the attempts at conveying 'scarcity' to the Audience.)
Not me having a glottal glitch there at 2:46, nope, no idea what you're all on about. Move along. 😂
Like a heavily armoured kangaroo !! Love it !!
Just my opinion but....1. If it remained the under the control of the Mighty Ducks, it wouldn't be the Duck Mobile or anything but would be christened as the "Quantum Quack" or possibly "Aero McQuackers". 2. It wouldn't have a signature "quack" sound but it would fly with a continuous stream of "quacks" and pitch would increase in correlation with speed. 3. Any torpedo fire would instead have the signature "'quack" and phaser fire would have the signature stream of "quacks", use of the transporter would incur a single but long tapered signature "quack".
Quantum Quack is my favourite thing now, thank you :)
- Jack
I'd love to see this in a space battle. Just a pile of ships quacking phasers at each other. Torpedoes making more of a Honk. Let the geese have fun too.
Can you make a video for Enterprise and the 5th season that was planed and the Romulan war 😌 it is my favirite star trek and my favorite star trek period
My guess in every episode it would be used you would have to have new exterior shots of Voyager with a gap at the bottom of the saucer section. For continuity sake I'm thinking the show runners and model/CGI people just didn't want to deal with it.
Maybe if there was a sliding hatch that pops out of it might have been the "Delta Flyer" instead.
I'm sorry, how do you segue from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the Captain's Yacht? Besides if we're looking for connecting themes Captain's Bicycle would be more accurate...
the easiest answer is they just didn't have the resources needed to use the thing.
So would have love to see this ship in the series or in another show
This and the infinity shuttles, they would be a one-ship fleet!
It's a Tardis? Is that why it has such a way with Mavity?
Sorry, Mavity? Are we talking Hathaway now? Oh, wait, that's Mafty, nevermind.
Otherwise referred to as "Voyager's 2,986,763 shuttle".
While Voyager has some major issues with conveying 'scarcity' in the Delta Quadrant...
that particular plot hole does get 'covered' in facilitating the Delta Flyer.
NtM, it's been heavily-implied that since the screen-introduction of Replicator Technology in TNG, that there have been 'large part replicators' on-board long-range vessels.
(How else would the Enterprise-D've replaced large and complex components w/o returning to spacedock?)
[Guarantee you they're not LEGO'd together from mealplate-sized replications, lol.]
I always accepted that what we saw was just a filler plug for until Voyager could get the actual shuttle, and when Janeway had to take off for the mission in the Badlands, it just hadn't been delivered yet.
So far i know.
The ship is not done yet .
And not all on board.
So that is the reason its not in use.
kinda like the Enterprise-B from Generations , everything not installed untill next Tuesday ... 😅
Even when the topic is “meh” to me, if LTC Adams is narrating I am in!
Cheers Adam
They could have built the Delta flyer to fit in that space. 🤷♂️ I've heard things about how the flyer was too big for the hanger bay. They just ignored that part.
I'd like to think that it was unfinished and just the outer hull portion remained as a space filler. Perhaps the freed up space above that could have been used as secondary storage or a hydroponics bay.
the Pathfinder class (Voyager-B) also has an Aeroshuttle 😁
7:27 whoa that picture quality Where's that from?
They never flew it because Paris refused to pilot it! O and notice how the interior of the Delta Flyer is so much bigger then the shuttle actually had room for?
Wouldn't a far simplier reason be that, if I recall, they couldn't replicate the bio neural gel packs, so just took all of them from the Aero Shuttle, making it unusable.
Tell us about the Enterprise-B!!
Okay 👀
- Jack
Great looking shuttle! What could have been...
Such a missed opportunity for a lackluster movie, they should have said the shuttle wasn't finished before voyager left space dock and then decided to finish it instead of creating the delta flyer, it's a cooler concept and design.
Is there an episode on the Delta Flyer? That one actually did get considerable TV air time
Season 5 episode 3: Extreme Risk
The Delta Flyer was the previous video, it's where the opening bit came from
@@MrTechnin Thank you! 🙂
Enterprise-D Captain's Yacht.
Anyone know where that footage of the sovereign and the fleet is from
10:04 what game is that from?
Isnt this the 3rd vid about this?
Eaglemoss rage?
dizide neden kullanmadılar ve onun yerine deltayı geliştirdiler ?
I don’t care what Tea you drink
why is slower than danube?
Quack!
9th Love all Trek..but Voyager is my favorite ship...not too big, not too small.....Powerful......
It sucks it was never used in the show
Your voice-over and humor is grand 👍
would be awesome if voyager a had one so that show when ever it will release can made it uo for voyager for never showing the awesome fighter looking aero shuttle
Voyager my favourite Federation starship ever so beautiful sleek.❤

Slow day I guess since this is such old news.
Hello! This isn’t really a news video, we’re just telling more people about Star Trek facts. Not everyone, as proved by comments, has heard of this before :)
@@TrekCentral I know I know I'm sorry. I'm just so hungry for some new Trek I wasn't in my right mind. Thankfully we have Disco coming soon! I do love you guys, I hope you can forgive me!
@@GiraffeSweaterswe too suffer from trek withdrawal. All is forgiven ❤
