    I fell in love with Lower Decks the 1st season. It's refreshing from all the new Trek that's so dark and depressing ( SNW not included, love that too). I've seen every season of every series and movies ( Kelvin timeline barf), the new stuff has been hit and miss, but Lower Decks has been solid from the start! # SAVE PRODIGY!! 🤘😁🖖🇨🇦

      I believe the first two or so digits of the registry refer to the ship's class (i.e. all Constitution classes had NCC-17XX), so we'd be just a bit limited there. But then, maybe that tradition has ended and someone never told me.

    • @VME-Brad
      @VME-Brad 11 месяцев назад

      @@ananonymousnerd.2179 It was more a case of them originally being just a representation of build order.
      But then legacy names started happening, so you end up with Galaxy class ships with Constitution registries, and only new name ships get that treatment. and with multiple ship classes being produced at the same time it no longer matches up to classes.
      TOS era it worked because they really only had the resources to output one or two classes of ship at the same time. Constitution class ships were being built for a long time, originally commissioned for the war with the Klingons, then came the Miranda class, then the Excelsior, both of which were new built for around 80 years. The ambassador class was in there as the Excelsior began to show it's age, and the Constellation class to replace the Miranda, the Nebula and Galaxy class came about to replace those old work horses.
      And then the Borg threat, and the Donimion war happened.
      Many new ship projects were put in the line due to that, and we got like 6 or so new classes out of it all around the same time.

    a big regret i had for ds-9 was that it wasn't an anthology series featuring different ships throughout the series and different crews [yeah i know the expense would have killed it but can still hope]

    Roo-bee-doe, not Roo-bee-doo; Southern California may not have a uniform accent, but specific place names wind up with pronunciations divorced from the original person or place that inspired the name. This is especially prevalent in San Diego County, for some reason. Other than that, the California Class ship names sounded good.🎉

      In terms of Chess, I think of the California Class of ships being the pawns of Starfleet. While Pawns might not seem that impressive, being so limited, they are very important to the outcome of the game. Underestimate them at your peril.
      As shown during the fight with the Aledo, which would likely be like a Queen, a large number of Cali Classic ships working together can take down ships that are much more powerful than them.

    The only new trek show I have seen most of and my third favourite Trek (only behind DS9 and Enterprise) I adore the Cali Class but the bunk beds in the hallways were daft. Starfleet is manned by Volunteers who are the best of the best having passed through multiple tests and evaluations. They deserve better than a bunk in a damned hallway.

    • @Solitaire001
      @Solitaire001 4 месяца назад

      Thinking about it, that is the one thing that I didn't like about the California Class. I don't see a problem with the bunkbeds (since that is what junior members of many militaries are usually first provided), but as a minimum there should be some kind of privacy screen (such as a via a solid hologram that can be made opaque or transparent, and dropped when needed) to give the individual crew members some privacy, to allow them darkness for sleep, keep out noise, and to allow them to adjust their personal environment for comfort.

    The one thing that I DO NOT understand about the ships getting caught in tractor beams. Why they never teleported a huge bomb into the beam.
    10:19)By Galaxy Class was he referring to ships like the USS Enterprise-D (NCC 1701-D)? At least 3 times Captain Plcard said that it was the first of the type. That would make them USS Enterprise-D (NCC 1701-D) Class dreadnoughts. They about 25% larger than the Excelsior Class battleship.

    You know, I didn't notice that Jack Quaid was too tall to credibly represent Boimler in live action. I'm not sure I'd even consider that episode to be canon because it was too uncanny valley for me.

    • @Solitaire001
      @Solitaire001 Месяц назад

      I didn't find the crossover to have an uncanny valley issue since everything in the past was live action, and I didn't find Quaid's height to be an issue (I didn't really notice it). The Uncanny Valley would have been an issue if they tried to combine live action and animation in the same scenes. As far as canon goes, I do consider "Lower Decks" to be just as much canon as the other "Star Trek" series. It's just a part of Starfleet that we haven't really seen before. I hope that when "Lower Decks" ends it is not forgotten.

    AS a Californian, the thought of serving on The Oakland or The Fresno is quite disturbing. Especially if the decks of the Oakland are as rough as the streets in the real City. Or the halls in the Fresno as fog clouded as real Fresno in fall and winter. Literally cannot see across an intersection. Though you CAN hear cars going by at 45...

  • @damienmccuinn1956
    @damienmccuinn1956 8 месяцев назад

    So what I am hearing is that it took 100 Californians to take on a Texan.
    Honestly, I dislike the ship because it reminds me of either the pre-Borg or mid-Dominion War builds but WITHOUT all the improvements to ship builds that they had up to that point.
    California, as it's namesake, seems to be weak on its own and has to overwhelm an enemy with numbers to be effective. If this had been Wolf 359 these ships would've been erased within seconds. Honestly, it seems to be only a step up from Oberth class ships in reliability, which makes me question why the writers didn't just get a ship from STO that was better suited for the role?
    I mean I'm no expert but even the Nova class ensured you had actual quarters for the crew, even if they had to double up. To make it worse, the Defiant, who is about as small as a Saber class had rooms for the barracks-style rooms and this ship is physically bigger than a Defiant class coming in close to an Ambassador class. So, the ship design makes even less sense in the post-Dominion War era, especially given what we have for references of smaller ships and their accommodations. Putting the nonsense of the internal layout in contrast to other ships with similar layouts aside, these ships are far too fragile for the era these are supposed to be in.
    Had this been the pre-Borg era I could see these being a practical ship. But it just doesn't seem practical for them to keep such a design active.
    While I am not so much a fan of how the initial season was done, nor the Mary Sueness of a certain character. I do find the addressing of the Below Decks crew to be something that was sorely needed as other shows had touched on the idea but tbh fell flat as they never seem to translate into any meaningful reforms within Starfleet. Like many things made in the current Era, it is a good concept, but the execution left a lot to be desired.
    To those that like the series, fair enough, free world and all that. But from someone who is a serious sci-fi and starship nerd, the California makes no sense to me in a post-Dominion era Starfleet. I like the idea of a darker Startrek show without it going Picard on us, but the initial launch turned me off simply due to me being tired of seeing a character that could seemingly do it all yet didn't want to which was all over tv and movies at the time.
