When you're serving on a Frigate there is one important thing you'll learn one day. Frigates protect at convoy and there is a high value unit which has to get through and you're not it. Serving in the navy has some benefits though, when you die you had a warm meal in the past 24 hours and a bunk to sleep on. Frigates are best!
Served on a pair of CG's myself but always had respect for you FFG cats. Except when we couldn't hit Sydney and Perth in '05 because sea state was too rough for the Frigate so we diverted to Darwin and Brisbane lol.
The post Wolf 359 ship designs, highlight that you don’t want to poke the Federation bear, because its engineers will go ham and build som serious beat sticks
Adam, every time I hear your voice (as a long-time voice talent myself) at the beginning of a TC video, I cheer. Your delivery and enunciation, not to mention those pipes, are just perfect. That coupled with your wit and you're a joy to listen to. Good on ya, pal. Keep up the stellar work and let a brother know where else he can hear ye. Engage!
Artistry, everytime i read a comment (as a long time youtube commenter myself) I cheer you! Your grammar and punctuation, not to mention your spelling, are just perfect! That coupled with your use of commas and sentence structure, well, it was a joy to read! Nice one buddy! Keep up the cosmic work!
I have to say it wouldn't it would be just a weekly show of DS9 and its three ships kicking seven shades of shoe polish out of this weeks bad guy fleet of the week, would get pretty boring very quick if the heroes won every time easily.
I'd love to see a "Greyhound" (Tom Hanks WW2 Navy movie) type story with a squadron of Steamrunner class frigates escorting a convoy of supply ships while hunting and being hunted by cloaked raiders trying to pick them off before they can reach their destination.
I don't know why, but that last "Fire!" from Data was the *perfect* endcap to that sequence. His voice said "Fire!", but his expression added on "Dammit!"
Size-wise the Steamrunner is more of a light cruiser. Then you have the Norway in the destroyer role and the Sabre in the frigate role. All of the First Contact designs were extremely torpedo-heavy in armament. We see Akiras, Steamrunners and Sabres firing bursts of 3 or 4 at a time.
10:53 - U.S.S. (Me-ne-hu-ne), which are Hawaiian myscial beings. Menehune were said to be about 3 feet tall. They lived in the mountains and when they felt like it, they helped Hawaiians of old to build temples, roads, walls and fishponds.
Isn’t it! I would love to see a scaled up version in a hero ship role like a defiant A steam runner follow up ship protecting Dsg 9 years later. Like how a alreigh Burke cruiser is really just a bigger beefed up Oliver Perry when a say scaled up. Looks identical just bigger and more fire power
I'd want a Saber personally. Reminds me of a little destroyer in WWII. The kind of little expendable ship that could be sent anywhere to do anything, as long as there was shooting involved.
Two words: "Tricobalt Torpedoes". In Star Trek: Armada II, which is supposed to be 2380's/90's, the Steamrunner is a siege ship, or bombardment ship. They gave them dedicated tricobalt torpedo launchers. The tricobalt torpedo is a sublight non guiding torpedo that is basically a fusion bomb. They made the Steamrunner like trebuchet ships, lobbing high yield, long ranged, area effecting torpedoes. It was a really cool feature in the game. Some say it's not cannon but it always seemed logical to me! 🖖
I always tried to take good care of my little Steamrunner fleets, but they were sooo slooow! I definitely loved firing long range on starbases through asteroid "barriers", though!
The 'gameplay character' of those Steamrunners in Armada/Armada II carried-forward (in-spirit) w/ Sins of a Solar Empire. Speking of... IIRC, there's a Star Trek full conversion mod for SoaSE, that's well-reviewed.
@@LRK-GT Aye I've seen it but never got around to it, looks amazing though. Even Armada II had Fleet Ops that was a really nice extension as it added the Dominion, but they cut the warp feature so the ships all travel at the same speeds... so I stuck with original. There was a Star Wars mod for A2 as well that to me was one of the best SW space RTS's ever!
Menehune. Its a sort of spirit from hawaiian folklore that appear as small people. They pop up in the night and build things, good things, along with causing general mischief. Probably a good name for a small engineering focused vessel.
Back in the 80-90s, the FASA game company had so many great ideas for ST and ship combat. Their RPG and Combat Simulation Game envisioned a Star Fleet with marine carrying Frigates, single nacelle Destroyers, torpedo boats, battleships, repair vessels, fighter carriers, etc. Sadly, some of these ideas were never fully explored before the company closed.
The Computer Game series "Starfleet Command" and "Armada" carry-through many of those concepts into Real-Time Tactical and Strategy interactive games. IMHO, all 4(inclu. expansions, IIRC) entries in the "Starfleet Command" series, and both of the "Armada" games are well worth the time and effort to track down, and get working on a modern PC. There should be RUclips and other online resources for any problems you run into (plus, some of the games are 'abandonware', IIRC)
In the words of riker tough little ship. But my ultimate favorite tank ship is the akira. It had mass amounts of torpedo launchers. Even side fireing ones. Plus it has the launcher that was removable. it reminded me of an upside down nx.
Dude, one of the most underused but useful ships in star trek armada. If it's bombing a wormhole or choke point or killing engines near a black hole, this thing rocked.
The game relied on the concept that smaller ships are merely fodder so thaat you work your way up to the more powerful, laarger ships. had it gone by StarFleet specs you'd be able to get away with a lot more with smaller to medium sized vessels. Truth be told an Akira Class can wreck ships much larger that itself and couple that with two or three Steamrunners you'd have one heck of an attck group going on. Hell. Stick a couple Steamrunners and a couple Defiant Class together and the party would get real fun real fast. They want you to constantly upgrade to larger vessels. It's the same thing with STO. small vessels are just fodder so that you want to invest/buy bigger ones.
I would modify the game files. Giving the defiant class the same pulse phasers as the Starbase. They would have about the same fire power as a galaxy class...😂
What about this idea for a TORPEDO ship for a star fleet tack a Galaxy class saucer section and put all the TORPEDO launchers you can in it and there use the battle bridge to command it
Nothing wrong with a Steamrunner Class. They were very well suited for their role and many Starfleet Captains loved these little ships of the line. They could, easily, step up in a fight and had many of the creature comforts afforded to larger vessels.....on a smaller scale. Now if you reaally wanted to serve on a small vessel you either went with a Saber or Defiant class and went full tilt spartan on the accomodations.
10:30 okay, I'll forgive you for the pronunciation given even people from the appalachian area tend to pronounce it two different ways. Where I grew up it was "appa-lay-shia" whereas others would pronounce it "appa-lah-cha".
Both are sort of correct. The mountain range itself follows the first while the region follows the second. So either "appa-lay-shian" or "appa-lay-shen" for the mountain range, and "appa-lah-cha" or "appa-lat-cha" for the region.

Awesome video Adam. I half expected you to sneak in "Poor star drive" at some point lmao, oh well. Would I want to command one of these? It's possible. Although I probably might would prefer a Defiant class but if my choices were extremely limited then yes I probably would command a Steamrunner.

I love the Steamrunner class, in my head canon they are a bigger Defiant. Very agile, lots of forward facing firepower, phaser cannons (I know not on the ship but like I said head canon). Unlike the Defiant, they have space to do none military things and stay out on patrol longer.

Interesting blend of alpha and beta canon for the video. Contrary to ST: Armada I & II, however, nothing alpha canon ever implies it's a torpedo cruiser, unlike the Akira class. That said, video was very well put together and love your voice overs. Kudos!

To be fair, after seeing the fleets finest get shown to be beyond inadequate in the face of the borg thank christ they finally grew some balls as it served them well come the Dominion. The rounded bussard collectors and lower registry of the one notable Steamrunner (the USS Appalachia NCC-52136) made me suspect that the Steamrunner was an earlier ship design, possibly developed during the Federation/Cardassian conflict of the late 2340s/early 2350s. The Sabrerunner Passaro also featured a similar registry (NCC-52670) which was close to the Appalachia's, suggesting the production of both classes in the same time period. Voyager, launched in 2371 before the onset of the Dominion War, featured a registry of NCC-74656 and triangular bussard collectors in comparison, with the Sovereign (Enterprise-E) and Prometheus classes continuing the trend of triangular bussard collectors. This would make the Steamrunners we saw during First Contact and the Dominion War either older ships still in service, or indicate that the class was still in production and/or revisited in response to new threats.
Just ended a term on one of those ships in STO with my Ferengi tactical officer (Actually the ship was a Appalachia class but i gave her the appearance of a Steamrunner )

I'll take a Nova class ship with the Defiant's warp core, Voyager's ablative armor and transphasic torpedoes, please.
Or an Archer class scout ship from Kirk's era.
Nice ship. Trafalgar is a good name but Steamrunner? Where on earth did they dig that up?
I thought the type 8 phasers were the more powerful ones and the type 10 although more advanced were not as destructive?
Damfk! Need Picard in his beloved Enterprise E with new movies and all new upcoming Picard series.
Star Trek: Resurgence features two Steamrunner-class ships, the USS Kimball and the USS Lowell.
Fists if the Fleet ✊

I like this ship.
I would rather command a transport/tug. The backbone of federation supply ships. :)
I would love a Steamrunner, and feel like Duke Nukem commanding a massive Devestator cannon ship.
Cheers. I believe her magazine had s thousand torpedoes
