    "I know Hammond and May think my 928 Porsche is a bit dull. But for one very good reason, it isn't dull to me. Back in 1994, I was living in London and I got a call one evening from my mum to say that my dad was desperately ill in a hospital in Sheffield, and I needed to get there as quickly as possible. And I had just taken the chicken out of the oven and I thought, "Well, I'll take that for my mum because she won't have eaten". I ran outside and I had a 928 on test that week, and when I arrived in Sheffield, the chicken was still warm and my dad was still alive. In fact, he died half an hour later. And the truth is, if I hadn't been driving a car that can sit quite happily at 170 miles per hour, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to say goodbye to my dad. So as far as I'm concerned, the 928 is alright."

      It's so sad, that a company with that sort of engineering excellence, had to propagate the nonsense that a car with the engine hanging out the back of the car in back of the rear axle, was a safe way to have an average driver to enjoy pushing the limits of handling on public roads. The insanity of using men's insecurity over their masculinity, to sell more cars, when they could instead have shown the world what great cars that they COULD make, is indefensible.
      The 911 rear engine design killed more drivers than any other engineering farce. More than exploding Pintos, more than swing axle Corvairs. And it continues to this day. The only selling point of a rear engine 911, is to try to prove to the world what a manly man you are, able to 'tame the beast' of a truly lousy handling car. Case in point; Porsche 911 fans actually deride Boxters and Caymans for being 'sweet handling cars', as if it's not a car 'that a REAL man would choose to drive'. Think about that for a moment; choosing to drive a lesser capable car, because it's 'more manly'.
      That is just insane, but huge numbers of men truly believe that they need to prove their manhood by doing stupid things.

    • @libingmeme8474
      @libingmeme8474 Год назад

      @@d.e.b.b5788 You know jack shit. It was never about ego or "proving how much of a manly man you are", and that wouldn't be porsche's fault even if it was. Some people just do it because of the excitement. The 930 is still one of my dream cars purely for those reasons. I mostly ride bikes when it comes to performance oriented stuff and the first thing I do is turn off all the aids, not because I need to prove to myself, much less to anyone else, how much my cock smells, but because having a superduke attempt to throw you off while at the same time lifting the front out of a corner is peak fun.
      Also, I've never seen someone in a porsche space tell someone else he's not a real guy for not getting a 911. McLarens also kill TikTokers like Porsches kill doctors. You literally pulled that whole thing out of your ass just to whine about people having fun.
      Looks like you're part of the huge number of women who need to prove their womanwhood by complaining over nothing.

      The 959 was fantastic, no doubt. And it certainly had many firsts on a production road car. But saying it is THE reason we have those things today is a tad bit silly. That suggests nobody else would have thought up things like ABS or TPMS on their own eventually. My thoughts of Porsche and the 959 is that Porsche pushed automotive technology at least 10 years ahead of itself, at great cost to their own company, but as a massive benefit to the rest of the automotive world. ABS, automatic leveling suspension, variable damping, compound turbocharging, torque-vectoring AWD, TPMS, all absolutely incredible to debut in the 1980s, where even legendary sports cars like the Corvette, the GTR, the Evo, and many others just starting to borrow that same technology at least 5-10 years behind the 959. Porsche really is an incredible company, and the automotive industry owes them so much. All that information masterfully delivered by your talent is what makes your videos right up there with the best automotive mini-documentaries.

      the amount of time it is taking for TPMS to filter down into more normal vehicles is absurd. I had BMW motorcycles (at the time, priced similarly to a Toyota Camry - somewhat expensive for bikes, but definitely not in car terms) with factory-fitted TPMS in 2008. TWENTY ONE YEARS after the 959! And not even a common feature in 2024 bikes.
      My VW Polo GTI from 2008 also has TPMS but doesn't actually show the pressures anywhere (why???) so you can't observe if they're trending down or not, or whether they're still mostly safe but slightly down, and doesn't tell you which tyre is affected. Just one warning light. Really not a very useful system

    50:09 I would like to add a few kind words about Heinz Branitzki here. I know he was CEO for only a short time. But he was a member of the board under Peter Schutz. So I think he was very much involved in the whole 959 process.
    But most of all he was a very very friendly and kind gentleman.
    I know this because he was our neighbor until he died 2016. He and his wife were incredibly polite and very heartwarming people. Especially to me as a child back in the nineties.
    I have very fond memoreis of them and although I know this video is not about him at all I wanted to take the opportunity to mention it. 🙂
    To me it was a nice moment when I saw the picture of him in this video.

    The wheels and tires on the 959 are even more special than "just" hollow spokes and TPMS. They featured Dunlop's Denloc system that secured the tire to the wheel by a special design. So those Bridgestone tires ended up with some runflat capabilities aswell. It's a similar, discontinued technology like Michelin's TRX approach.
