Great job Squidd. I have owned 3 different Corvette's over the years and sold my last one when I got married. Videos like this keep the love and hype alive for me till I can get behind the wheel of one again.
i remember an Topgear episode of Corvette C5/C6 comparison with Dodge Viper GTS and RT/10, Corvette was the winner in almost all tests, most important performance efficiency, racing lap time and the best part the Price difference
The thing to remember about the choice for the "Blue Flame" inline 6 in 53 was because Chevy did not have a V8 at the time. The legendary small block V8 would not be available for 2 more years. As soon as it was released in 1955 it was immediately stuck in the Corvette. Chevy was about the last of the GM brands to get a V8 as at the time Chevy was the bottom of the food chain within GM. Also the initial 53's were basically just a fancy body stuck on the current 53 Chevy passenger car frame and were pretty much that same frame through 1962.
Just incredible. The whole story. And just as all the wins from the C5, C6 and C7. Now the Corvette has won another championship and Lemans win. Continuing the story of a car that never should have worked. And good to know you are listening and eager to learn. I look forward to the next one.
I've never been a big American car fanatic. Probably because we don't see/get all too many of them here in the UK. But something about how the C5 looks just sets off all the right signals in my brain.
Just got my first torch red C5 after a year of research, flights, test drives, etc. It was originally set to be a weekend/date night car but quickly turned into my daily🙌🏽

I like to think of the c8 as a super muscle car. All the grace and ability of a super car and all the power, spirit and heart of good ol, American muscle
I always thought KITT was a Corvette in the 90's when I was a lil older , as a kid I didn't know it was a Trans am but loved the car , to be honest I didn't even know Trans Am but I do recall Facemans white Corvette with red stripes from the A team in the 80's and loved it.❤
Thank You for this one. I ❤ Corvette since I saw her for the first time...she was torch red C4. And still love them, even more. Best car in the entire world , Corvette ❤🔥
Fantastic video! After growing up watching the c5r dominate. The c5 z06 was my dream car. Purchased 6 years ago. I dont think ill ever be able to let it go. It does it all. Quick, sounds great, cheap insurance, great on fuel. Its a true poor mans racecar and i love it!
This one was a banger! I was thinking, I would reccomend the story of the Porsche 917 next. I personally believe it is one of the best car stories in history! In case you aren't familiar, the entire car (which is one of the most dominant Le Mans cars ever) was designed in two months, and when the time for inspection rolled around, they only had one of the required 25 units built. So they stood 25 bodies of a 917 in a line and prayed the inspectors would only ask them to start unit #1, which was the only one with an engine in it. Then, when it got to a track the first time, the fan blew out of the engine, and the windshield wiper flew off too, but somehow this car became reality. Even the body of the car was utilized efficiently, the tubing of the frame was also the pipes for oil and fuel, to save weight. Then, the car went on to win... literally everything. Anyway, sorry for making you read that wall of text! I would love to see a video on the 917, I mean really love it, and I think it would do quite well. Hope your hand gets better, and thanks for the amazing videos!
The 917 was a death trap. The frame was a spider web of small aluminum tubes, covered in a thin fiberglass body. Drivers feared it, even if it was a quantum leap in prototypes. The 917-30 was the same madness, but with 1000+ horsepower
@@arthuralford yes it was a death trap, yes it was aluminum and fiber glass, but it worked. And I sorta included its various models in my suggestion, thanks for specifying your favorite as well though!

I didn't even know the story of the vette (especially the c5 and c6 which were my favourites and still are). @@Jay-jb2vr I'm an automotive technician, gathering automotive knowledge is part of my job so technically I was working. Anyway it's not as dramatic as I made it out to be a bit of humour never killed anyone. My boss is very lenient and passionate about cars as well. This guy is 78 years old and still works with cars refusing to retire. Often we go to car meets, car shops, vintage car parts sales or even visits to his old friends during working hours. Plus I was waiting for the A/C machine to finish recharging the A/C system so yeah not as big of a deal in the end.
Watching C5 and C6.R at VIR made me a fan. And seeing the CTS-V dominate at VIR and Mid-OH renewed my interest in GM. But, the debut of the C7.R at Daytona was historic. The C7.R in that yellow & black stood out above the field of Ferraris, Porsches, Aston’s and Audis. And if my memory serves me correctly, there was also a duo of Camaros on the track. The only other car more impressive and interesting than the C7.R that day was the Delta Wing…. Long live Corvette Racing 🏁!!!
I just love corvettes. There is nothing like the sound of a classic american v8. My favourite is the C3. Here in germany they are pretty rare, and i hope i can afford one at one point in life.
You did the corvette justice with this mini documentary. These were all the corvettes I grew up with and was happy to see the respect for the achievements the car had.
Was never really a Vette guy but this video was amazing!!! My favorites are the C1 and C5… also ALL corvettes were made of fiberglass/plastic. Every single one. Not just starting with the C4
Reupload or not, it's still a work of art every time. I will always love just how passionate people in the car community are about these machines. I know we're all crazy for being so emphatic about simple pieces of metal and rubber, but I don't think any of us would change that for the world. Keep up the amazing work my friend!
I think the empathy comes from our respect of what it took to make the machines. Like a painting is a reflection of the artist, the car is a reflection of the hard working people that designed and built it. that's what we try to connect here, the humans behind the machines.
I grew up in Flint. The first Corvette was built here. I've always had a special place in my heart for American sports cars, even as I come to appreciate the offerings from the rest of the world. I think this video sums up why perfectly. We took a car that made no sense and dominated. Why? Because this is America
You know when ever someone talks about Chevy, they usually think about the Camaro. But when I think about Chevy I think about the Corvette and how beautiful its designs were.
The c5 is the last vette with pop-up headlights , the aftermarket support of this literation of corvette is crazy from from engine and chassis tuning to headlights mechanism conversion i guess a c5 vette would be great platform for time attack racing.
So fittingly American, the C6.R was the loudest car at the track. Fast forward to the 2023 Le Mans, swap out the letters and numbers (from C6.R to ZL1), keep the manufacturer the same, and the sentiment still growls true! God Bless America! (No one on God's green earth can tell us otherwise. Even if they did, we couldn't hear, since they're not on the moon yet! Greetings from both Canada, and a guy who wanted nothing more than a Corvette when he was 10!)
Event after event the "stone age" suspension in my nearly 20 year old C5 puts newer, more advanced cars to shame through the corners. Props to the GM team that kept the Corvette alive!
Not really a car enthusiast and new to this channel, but I wish this video was 30+ minutes. Really cool learning about the history of some of the car icons (watched the Evo and NSX videos before this) but I wish there was more. Storytelling is great.
Someone has red "All Corvettes are Red". Good stuff. For those that dont know, All Corvettes are Red was written by a journalist who had full access to the Corvette program during the 90's and documented the entire creation of the C5, from conceptualization to production. It's really fascinating and I highly recommend giving it a read if you're a fan of Corvettes or just cars in general. Ive owned 2 C5 Corvettes so far and am looking for a 3rd. They are incredible machines.
I'm a mazda guy, but I feel like the current corvette just isn't a 'vette. The C5 feels like if I could get a vette, it'd be the one. It just says everything that it should, does everything an icon of the USA should. Born of adversity, does things it's own way with intelligence but a willingness to be different yet also plenty of nods to tradition, and then performs like a champ.
The amount of American pride and freedom coursing through my veins watching this video is immeasurable. I really wanted a C5 or a C6 before, now I absolutely need one
This is insane content, Im nearing year two daily driving a C4, it's just so much fun. It's an early z51 car and it's way better than I ever thought a corvette would be. Such a blast

The Corvette, all generations are awesome in their stock form. Also what makes the Corvette’s awesome is what you can do with it thanks to your imagination and the aftermarket industry

Another masterpiece. I watched the 1st version, had it interrupted 5 minutes in. Rewatched this from the very beginning. Great vid. Would be nice to see you make one about Koenigsegg
The thing i always loved about the corvette is that it never gave a fuck about what it's supposed to be. It's so unapologetically american. It kicks your ass with sheer brute force. I never saw many as a kid in germany, but whenever i saw one it almost blew out my eardrums with that sweet sweet screaming V8. If i could buy any car, to drive every day, it would probably be a corvette c6 wrapped like the one from need for speed most wanted 😂 that was my childhood, and it was always one of my dream cars.
As a child, I fell in love with the split rear window '63 when a guy up the block bought a blue one. Dad said that GM probably told the engineers to 'keep it pretty, keep it fun to drive, and keep it affordable'. Nothing has changed; the Corvette remains the most affordable supercar 70 years after it came to be, and we still love that America has it's own wonderful sports car. Long live the Corvette!
0:12 Throughout history, there have been many American legacies - Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, The Doors, the Gratful Dead, Van Halen. And of course, no one can forget Homer Simpson’s quote, “America’s Beatles are better than England’s Rolling Stones!!”
Joe Spielman spoke in my chemistry class in spring '97. He never mentioned that Reuss cancelled the Corvette, or that he saved it. Just that he was 6'3" and it had to fit him. I recall reading that July 1990 Car and Driver mag, and I've been looking for those sketches for a while. Although I seem to recall photos of a silver clay model somewhere. Does anyone remember this?

I’ve been around corvette all my life I’ve seen them from c1 up to the c8 on the road but one day when I was a kid there was a C6.R at a car show I went too a car show full of Lamborghinis Ferraris Paganis and even Bugatti but that C6.R stood atop them all it was the one car I could not take my eyes off of I even got to sit in it ever since that day I’ve yearned for a corvette! Seeing that car showed me that supercars weren’t all that! Ferraris are cool and incredible feats of engineering but they don’t give me goosebumps like Corvette does! I ADORE Porsche but that oh so great Porsche flat 6 just doesn’t turn my head like the fire breathing snarling v8 monster that is Corvette!
Almost brought a tear! no idea that they built the C5 in secrecy, after it was axed. For five years I’ve been proudly driving in 2008 modded C6 LS3, and I still haven’t really tamed it and driven to its limits. But it has been an hour track day around Daytona Speedway. Oh yeah baby!! 💪😎

Wow, thanks! I never thought I'd have even this many people watching, it's incredible. Appreciate the love, hope I can continue to be worth your time !
As I've said on my previous comment, even though I might have catched on into being a car guy through the JDMs, and everyone and their dad has always thought about owning a Ferrari, I will never deny how cool Corvettes are. Love your videos!
to me, all cars are important and magic in their own way. glad you see the value in diversity too
No Ferrari I wanna own. There are other companies that make actually good cars😂
@@jackryan4313
I am well aware, I only mention Ferrari because it is the one most people know
Even if it's the 1st version, I'll still rewatch it like nothing happened.
🤜🤛
Great job Squidd. I have owned 3 different Corvette's over the years and sold my last one when I got married. Videos like this keep the love and hype alive for me till I can get behind the wheel of one again.
I hope you do! One day I want a C6 Z06 of my own
@@the.squidd you'll love it! My last one was a C7 Grand Sport. Those Z06 models are something else
@@Wguteman I drove a Z06 and ZR1 years ago and I fell in love with the Z06. It’s a fat Miata. The ZR1 was just a big hammer
thanks for the inspiration to never get married.
i remember an Topgear episode of Corvette C5/C6 comparison with Dodge Viper GTS and RT/10, Corvette was the winner in almost all tests, most important performance efficiency, racing lap time and the best part the Price difference
Still love my supercharged C5! Been in the family since new - 2001
The thing to remember about the choice for the "Blue Flame" inline 6 in 53 was because Chevy did not have a V8 at the time.
Very cool!
I drove a C6 Z06 for the first time when this was uploaded. That is a sign.
Every time you release another video I get exited. Your mini documentaries are insanely engaging and you always manage to make each car you focus on feel incredibly special. Keep up the great work!
Wow, thank you!
When I was a child in the late 90s early 2000s my grandpa had a c5 vette and a ws6 Pontiac. I’ll Never forget those cars
I like to think of the c8 as a super muscle car. All the grace and ability of a super car and all the power, spirit and heart of good ol, American muscle
I always thought KITT was a Corvette in the 90's when I was a lil older , as a kid I didn't know it was a Trans am but loved the car , to be honest I didn't even know Trans Am but I do recall Facemans white Corvette with red stripes from the A team in the 80's and loved it.❤
That black low Vette is bad ass
Thank You for this one. I ❤ Corvette since I saw her for the first time...she was torch red C4. And still love them, even more. Best car in the entire world , Corvette ❤🔥
The C5R will always be the top dog racer favorite for me
Its a good day when The Squidd uploads
Or reuploads
I made about every batch of the B-side resin at my plant in LA 86 to 92, on call 24/7 hitting .5 by .5 spec. box.
Absolutely one of the best cars per dollar of all time.
As a person who had a childhood playing the PS2 gran Turismo and the PSP gran Turismo, the corvette was my favourite car of ALL TIME. I didn't even know the story of the vette (especially the c5 and c6 which were my favourites and still are). I didnt know so much about how to handle a 639 horsepower v8 rear wheel drive c6 in gt psp...and thats when i realised that the corvette is and in my opinion, ONE OF THE GREASTEST AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE EVER with the shelby cobra and mustang.Sir, you don't know how much this means to the little me inside of my heart getting to know the story of these unexplainably amazing cars....thank you for doing what you are doing and please don't stop it. Love from india ❤ 🇮🇳

I saw almost all of the video yesterday, I had to interrupt because apparently I can't watch The Squid videos during work 😂. Anyway came back today and searched everywhere but couldn't find it. Now I can watch it again in peace. Sooner or later I'll make my boss watch your videos so we watch them together during work 😂. Joking aside great stuff keep up the good work 👍👏
Ha ha that’d be awesome.
Funny how nobody takes their job seriously anymore
you shouldn't, its a job. jobs aren't real life. family, living, life experiences are what you should take seriously.
The Corvette is never gonna die. Corvette forever!
Great job making a video on the best American sports car ever made!
I I already own a Corvette and this documentary makes me want to own a Corvette.
Luckyyyy
My father had a red manual hardtop C5, the rear before the Z06 debuted with the same body style. Good car.
happy your dad had such a fun car!
Although it is sad that youtube shadowed this video, I still glad you managed to make the video available again, Cheers! keep up ya momentum
Watched it yesterday, and once again today. To good to let go. Keep it up Squidd, you are putting up excellent content!
Much appreciated!
You know the C8.R was there right? Lol. Won its class
@@boredguy2935 Really? I just follow NASCAR, but the fact that the Corvette is still alive and kicking at Le Mans is amazing!
I cried. Incredible. Please don’t ever stop.
Really like my 96 LT4. But I love my 13 GS. Not enamored with C7 or C8. The C6 is the pinnacle for me.
Event after event the "stone age" suspension in my nearly 20 year old C5 puts newer, more advanced cars to shame through the corners.
Props to the GM team that kept the Corvette alive!
For the briefest moment I thought we'd gotten two Squidd videos in two days. One can only dream
I’m sorry. May be one day!
Corvettes have been taken for granted for too long in the past. Not anymore. The new C8 Z06 with LT6 is the new global benchmark.
I love that Jay Leno took that dark blue 1999 C5 as payment for an appearance in lieu of cash. He truly is a car guy at heart.
Not really a car enthusiast and new to this channel, but I wish this video was 30+ minutes. Really cool learning about the history of some of the car icons (watched the Evo and NSX videos before this) but I wish there was more. Storytelling is great.
Thank you so much! We will eventually make really long pieces, they're just very expensive to make right now.
@@the.squidd Fair enough, I just got so into the video that i wished it hadn't ended. Keep up the good work
Someone has red "All Corvettes are Red".
As a c5 owner. I approve this message! Great job! This is a phenomenal video🎉💪🏾💪🏾
Much appreciated!
Watching Squidd is like watching a proper documentary. You can watch it over and over again, not many channels can do that...
2 words for the Corvette Team: Goddamn Innovators.
WELL DONE. I bought one C5 n C6 way earlier. I love it, even bested Tesla.
Clarkson lives rent free in my head for ever, everytime I see a good looking vette, “well done Fatman in Kentucky”.
This is insane content, Im nearing year two daily driving a C4, it's just so much fun. It's an early z51 car and it's way better than I ever thought a corvette would be. Such a blast
Bros videos always go so hard... like some sort of call to battle
Truly amazing videos you produce sir. My wife and kid watch them with me now with how engaging they are. The love of cars is just something more that is so hard to explain yet you capture the emotion in each of your videos and bring that to the world. Keep up the good work you are one of the GOATs in the making.
that warms my heart that you share your passion with your kid.
me and my dad never got along. i think he hated that i was a nerd and didnt play sports. when i was old enough to get a car i finally got to see his passion for automobiles as we shopped around for old crappy E30 BMWs, and it was infectious. from that day forward me and my dad spent tons of time together in the garage, messing with my cars, replacing engines in my 240SX and helping me build drift cars.
for the rest of my life, everything was centered around cars. its how i made friends, its how i got a job, and its how i make a living.
just ya know, its really cool that may be your child's story some day too.
Another awesome video man. The music and paired with your words just gets me in the feels everytime
Thank you Lance! You’re a legend
The Corvette, all generations are awesome in their stock form. Also what makes the Corvette’s awesome is what you can do with it thanks to your imagination and the aftermarket industry
Great as Ever. You should get nominated for President with these awesome Speeches
This is an incredible, awe inspiring, well articulated documentary. The Corvette is not a Supercar. Sports car? Absolutely.
only true fans knows that it's reuploaded.
only truer fans knows that it's reuploaded because there was a big audio desync problem.
thanks for fixing the audio desync! and keep up the amazing work as always
You get a seat at the table
Bro, when the auto desync happened, I was like hold up, tf just happened? Like, I actually asked the squid about it, you can go on one of the community posts before he took the video down, and I commented that something had happened to the video. (Or if something happened to my device, cuz I didn't know what was happening)
Another masterpiece. I watched the 1st version, had it interrupted 5 minutes in. Rewatched this from the very beginning. Great vid. Would be nice to see you make one about Koenigsegg
Glad you enjoyed it!
from risking everything, now a target
i thought for a sec this is a 2-part release. lol
still a great vid, squidd! 🔥
Thank you!
I love driving my C4 Corvette in Europe. I’m 21 and been saving for this for 2 years.
Congrats!
Time to repeat myself once again. Thank you Squidd for another masterpiece of a video.
Please do not stop making content!

Does anyone remember this?

day 29 season 2 of asking for a Bugatti Veyron video. It's coming
I hate you for making me miss my c6 and fall in love with the corvette again but I love you for reminding me why I got rid of my c6 in pursuit of a c5
Glad this is up again. Its about time someone spoke on some of the C4's graces. You can fight me but the 80s C4 is one of the best looking vettes imo.
day 27 season 2 of asking for a Veyron video.
My favorite Corvette moment will always be on Top Gear, when Clarkson pits it against a lighter, more powerful TVR, saying that the British car can do more than “hurr durr turn left”. Aaaand the Corvette demolishes it by several seconds on the hot lap.
I 💯 % doubt I’ll ever come across a car narrationby the squid that isn’t epic. I truly love your content. Therapy to my soul and information to my brain.
Thx for the re-upload. I love it ❤
Almost brought a tear! no idea that they built the C5 in secrecy, after it was axed. For five years I’ve been proudly driving in 2008 modded C6 LS3, and I still haven’t really tamed it and driven to its limits. But it has been an hour track day around Daytona Speedway. Oh yeah baby!! 💪😎
