    Fun fact, Brad Keselowski also broke 4 records with his win at Darlington:
    His 3 year long winless streak
    Winning in a RFK car, RFK being co-owned by himself and he last won in a Team Penske car
    The first the #6 car has won in NASCAR in 13 years, last won by David Ragan at Daytona
    Ford's 2024 winless streak across every single major racing series they have participated (3 of the races being lost in photo finishes against a Chevrolet)

    On 787B: I feel like this car is the most misunderstood racer for some reason. I'd roll my eyes every time people think that the car is "so fast, it's banned" (while the R32 Group A actually existed), but to be fair I used to believe more on the "not meant to be reliable but it won by sheer luck" angle. Regardless, I applaud Mazda's engineering team to create the most balanced and reliable race car that gave them the win they deserve after years of attempts.
    On Skyline LM: That image of the road car driving to the sunset will forever be ingrained to my head. Fun fact: I actually traced one frame of the scene for my thesis defense years ago. Kinda shame that we haven't got the road version Skyline LM in GT7, even the race version, and the fact that the race version wasn't fully licensed when it appeared doesn't help either.

    • @reinbeers5322
      @reinbeers5322 3 месяца назад +2

      IIRC what really happened is that the FIA threw a fit that manufacturers were actually using different engines, and after '91 forced everyone to use the same engines that F1 did. So rotaries weren't banned by name, but they were banned alongside everything else that wasn't what the FIA wanted specifically.

    • @mrspandel5737
      @mrspandel5737 11 дней назад

      @@reinbeers5322 Group C was immensely popular with manufacturers and fans thanks to its fairly liberal rules. As long as it met the mandated fuel economy targets pretty much any engine was eligible. Thus there was incredible variety. Porsche's 962 with their proven turbo flat six that had been winning races all over the place since the 1970s, Nissan and Toyota opting for bespoke small displacement Turbo V8s, Mercedes with a larger production based V8 Turbo, Jaguar with their giant 7.0L fuck off V12 taken from the XJS V12 and of course Mazda with their unique rotaries. And then there was the cheaper C2 class for privateers running F1 derived V8 engines, usually Cosworth.
      Seeing as Group C was starting to rival F1s popularity the FIA decided to effectively make the C2 class the new top class in the WSC starting in 1991. (Which eventually caused a mass exodus and the death of Group C) However as Le Mans was sanctioned by the ACO the old C1 cars were eligible to run in that one event, but with severe ballast. So everyone opted to run the faster 1990 spec cars, besides Mazda who thanks to them running in GTP were able to avoid the ballast restrictions of their faster competitors. And the rest was history.

    The R390 Road and Race cars were standard in GT5 and 6, but at least they were some of the "semi-premium" models in 6. They had a very good improvement, an almost premium-like exterior, the race car in fact even had a polished up livery, which is something I believe other semi-premium race cars didn't.

    I actually have a diecast of the Ford GT LM Spec ll test car. It was a sponsorship that Hot Wheels did with Gran Turismo. They also had a Lamborghini Veneno race car, the Peugeot VISION GT car, and a few others over time. (That might be a neat video idea: Gran Tursimo's presence outside of the video games, kinda like how the original game had people talking about cars in a different way.)

    The thing I always find interesting about the GT One is that the livery in GT4, 5 and 6 is deliberately inaccurate because the real car had a Marlboro sponsorship and they wanted that to be less obvious in a child friendly game, so the white triangle on the front is replaced by a kind of curve.
    The GT7 version is back to having the realistic white triangle at the front again though.

    It's funny to think that Forza series carried the torch at preserving R33 LM legacy from GT, I really liked it there. I've spent lots of hours in online races with "Nissan Nismo GT-R LM Forza Edition" because with a bit of tuning it was really good to use at almost any road car tournament, and it's livery reminded me of it's former glory in GT 1 days. Driving in a Road Car gave me pleasure too, so maybe right now it is one of the best "contemporary" ways to experience this car in a videogame.
    Your video also gave me food for thought about "car on the cover" phenomenon and how videogames used to market. Usually I don't like discussions with the common theme like "something used to be better", for example "racing games used to be better", anyway I couldn't help but think about it in a way, that earlier racing games utilized it's cover art to emphasize specific car and make it look like the best car in the game even if it's perfomance wasn't that great. One of the best examples of it is yellow Lamborghini Diablo SV in Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit or Honda S2000, that is used in various GT2 cover arts and even in the game's menu design - these cars aren't the best in its class, but because of game covers you look at it like it's something really special, something that stands out of the rest of the roster. Today I feel that if I look at the modern racing games covers, I won't feel anything special about the cars on it and I really can't get a solid reason of why is it happening. The last games, that made me exciting about specific cars because of it's covers are Forza Horizon 4 and Wreckfest - and after I didn't feel that again. Maybe it is sense nostalgia, that give me that feeling about old games, maybe something else.
    Anyway, I find it a bit sad, that starting from Gran Turismo 5, GT Series didn't feature cars on it's covers the way that you will instantly recognize the car and want to have it in the game, they've done it in mostly stylistic way, that made cars blend with the other elements of the design, so it doesn't have a chance to stand out on its own and you probably won't even remember, what exact car was used there. In that sense I wish things were more like the past days.

    I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer Project 7/12 over the Cerbera Speed 12. I never liked the facelifted Cerbera, so it being the base for the final Speed 12 didn't sit that well with me. If anything, I'd rather take the Cerbera LM Editions from the first two games instead (since those were based on the pre-facelift Cerbera, which looks much better IMO).
    A big part of Project 7/12's appeal for me in GT2 was its sound. So savage. Pure eargasm. One of the very few old Gran Turismo car sounds that IMO sound good even today. I know it was carried over to the Cerbera Speed 12 in GT3, but it loses a bit of its magic when it's not the same car anymore.

    Also an ironic fact: The #3 Toyota GT-One that chased down the BMW in 1999 is the same sole surviving #27 chassis from 1998 with the exact same driver lineup.
