Yeah. Usually I only hear this level from grey-haired musicians. Young men have skill but the arrangement of this is so ... they are not playing from recently learned theory knowledge but playing from what an old soul wants to feel. A different approach (not that they don't work with theory like everyone else as well :P )
I hear early classical piano training and if you listen to all different cultural music in compound time signatures like 7/4 12/8 you get these kind of creative ideas! Cool.
As a musician I aspire to being this swept away, so that people can ride along with me. This is magic. These guys take you galaxy hopping. It is almost an insult to stop at how technically good they are cause they go soul deep.
Oh man. Protest (22:21) blows me away. There's something so emotive about it. It's got so much frustration and hope bundled together, glued with anger and determination. It's like Rage Against the Machine, but in a version that even your grandmother might deem pleasing to listen to... and I definitely mean that as a compliment! Amazing musicians. You go, GoGo Penguin. Go do more of this.
This has very quickly become my go-to for background music. Sooooo good! Until I suddenly realise I've been watching the video too and neglecting whatever else I'm supposed to be doing.
first piano notes played, people calm down and shut up 1 time, obviously they waited for the master on the keyboard what an amazing group, so great to see them live, if you can one day, don't blink twice, just go !!!
@@justpettet3506 ReallY? Well apart from ridiculous exageration ad the crowds anticipation of seeing a great band live what can I say except you are a complete dick! As for the sick comments about nationality and incidious conditions my poit is proven. Dont know what yor nationality is but you are a fucking disgrace.
I just saw them live, first time ever, here in Canada, with their new drummer. They're a different band...off course. They appear to be exploring more electronic sounds with the drummer banging away with very little subtlety, constantly filling the space, sounding more like a rock drummer, heavy on the bass drum...almost a constant competition to play the loudest. The sad thing is that the musicians don't seem to be aware of this. I am heartbroken that Rob Turner has left Go Go. There was no ego involved. Just superb technique wrapped in the delicate way that he felt every second of the music. Where's the organic connection between Go Go that created a seamless flow of magic with every note? I'll keep listening to the early concerts pre: Jon Scott ... loving every moment.
@@susanbracher1489 Damn, I was at Montreal Jazz Fest in 2018 but didn't know about them at the time; wish had gotten to see with him. Going to have to look up what he's doing now
I would really love for them to come in Montreal,Canada. Been listening to them since their first album and still hoping to see them live. Thanks for your music penguins, it makes my everyday life so enjoyable.
For the past two weeks, this is my favourite band, my favourite youtube video. I love how their theme melody is being twisted, spinned, stretched and compressed by this or that instrument, but the magic is that in spite their juggling with music they always catch the melody back in their initial form, more beautiful and shining as ever before. I'm not a jazz fan, but this is just reaching my heart and make my soul to sing and body to dance. Bravo to you guys, I will buy your music gladly and thank you again!
These guys rock! Just assumed they were at least using SOME loops, samples, or triggered clips the first time I heard them. Then I caught a video of them playing live...and I was simply blown away...
Saw you live in Darmstadt, Germany yesterday. One of the best gigs I have ever seen. So much dynamics and power in the music and the fine details have their place too. Great trio!
"Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before..." quoting Gaga of course.
Seen them live yesterday and they had a whole different repertoire. Much stronger and epic and the build-up oh god! The bassist is incredible. His ability to solo for 4/5 non-stop playing it as a guitar is pretty much! The drummer is also really good. Epic night!!

Ah sh*t man, I've got tickets for a show later this year, a show that has been postponed 3 times due to covid, it really saddens me to hear that, really does, wanted to see them in their original formation, never crossed my mind they might change anything :( I am still going, but with different expectations.
These guys are incredible!!! I would never have imagined before hearing it, how one could perform live especially the first track (All Res) so faithfully and dynamically. Excellent!!!
Legend has it, the audience is still clapping...
LMAO :)
Thanks for making me laugh :)
Lol, I was there. I can confirm, I'm still clapping!
That drummers stick control is killin me.... great playing
I just wanna thank everything that happened in my life that lead to me finding this music.
Dude, that makes me smile sooooo much. I shared this vid with like 20ppl who were like 'mehh'..... I'm with you!
The songs honestly sound better than the studio version here, it's mind boggling
Rob Turner is a God of drums.
Favorite drummer. I hope he comes back to the band
You hit the nail on the head, m8! Shear genius.
Nothing better than discovering something amazing.
Aron Johnston see them live if you get a chance, mind blown. Seeing them again
creating something amazing ;)
Feeling this right now.
They're such an immensely professional and creative band, a rare breed of penguin indeed
These guys play like they've been at it for 40 yrs. Total professionals.

16:42 Initiate
22:22 Protest
Thanks
Thank you kind human
not all heroes wear capes
Thanks for the listing man - ALWAYS useful! :)
ilCapotesta Thanks for posting. This really should have been included in the publisher's comments, or at least have your post 'pinned' to the front.
this band is really another whole level, but holy shit, playing unspeakable world LIVE?? HOW DARE YOU TO BE SO TALENTED??
As a musician I aspire to being this swept away, so that people can ride along with me. This is magic. These guys take you galaxy hopping. It is almost an insult to stop at how technically good they are cause they go soul deep.
They really do sound just as good live as they do on record. Increadible band!
The textures these 3 create are insane. Robs percussion has the ability to drive, lift and sprinkle magic into the music, as a whole.
Heavenly

@vonoom I've just thought about RATM too!
Yeah. Such a great band. Go go, GoGo Penguin(s)! ;)
You hear that Korn Freak on a Leash reference in that melody?!
MONSTA bass line.
i came here for this comment, man, soooooo goood, a true masterpiece that rythm
absolute gem thats a masterpiece
I love the way the drummer and pianist smile at each other at 11:07 knowing what they just did sounded amazing
This band is this good all of the time. If you have the chance to see them live, don't miss it.
So true !
Saw them 3 times and ... WoW !
Not anymore. Theyost Rob Turner. The new drummer doesn't understand subtlety or the music.
This has very quickly become my go-to for background music.

@@InterpretingAesthetic ha ha ha me too!
I totally get that comment!
Foreground music, for me.
That's what I do at school
The tone on that bass is perfection!
I read Penguin, I click.
I hear amazing music, I stay.
I'm a simple man.
Drummer lays it down with the breakbeat there! Great touch. Love it.
If these guys played a concert with The Bad Plus, the world would implode.
I´m not into jazz music really, but this math-jazz-pop fusion is just brilliant!
only weird thing is people clapping 10 minutes straight at the beginning of the video
first piano notes played, people calm down and shut up 1 time, obviously they waited for the master on the keyboard

I really love the entire band, but the drummers control and touch is simply amazing. Hope they come to the Netherlands soon!
Rick Derksen yess the drummer i guess listens to a lot of electronic and drum and bass music
He plays a major role in “modernizing” the band’s music concept
They have been to the Netherlands! I think a year or 2 back, I saw them!

doubting that anyone would see this, but keep going. you're doing great ヅ
These jazz compositions are music of inner alarm and a signal about the infernal essence of the reality around us.
Amazing!!!

And better, a band of 3 Penguins 😊
Every song was so incredibly unique, open and beautiful, unlike anything I've heard. Thank you!
this sound goes really deep, i'm getting so proud on these guys while listening, as if i would have made them myself. the songs and the guys.

There is, in fact, still real music being made. Always glad to rediscover that. Excellent work, guys - your records just went on my next-buy list.

The drummer is phenomenal. Listen to Smarra if you like his playing
