I think the 2000’s should have covered two hemlines! The asymmetric one and the extreme short one! Like literally the skirts back then were barely even thicker than a belt! And do I have to mention all those paparazzi pics of female celebs panty shots?? Like come on!😂😂😂😂
True. Only dancers and prostitutes would have worn a dress showing the knees. Also, let's take a look at the face: It went wild at the time as it had only recently been allowed and became trendy. She should have more blush, her eyebrows should be much darker and longer down to the sides. The pear necklace was common but the hairstyle? Also, she could have had a hat on top - especially the girl before her representing the 1910s. They had ridiculously extravagant hats, huge and decorated with feathers or even an entire dead exotic bird.
The 1920s gown was too short...it “crept up to the knee”, meaning the absolute shortest they got (unless you were a dancer or a prostitute) was just below the knee-and that was definitely not the norm, only for the famous flapper movement, but it wasn’t widespread. The model’s dress was above her knees.
There's actually an economic reason for this. Most people wear tights/pantyhose under their skirts if they're short, knee highs if they're long, and socks if they're really long. Skirts are fairly long-wearing, that is, they can withstand many wearings and washings without becoming so torn and worn out that they need to be replaced. But the undergarments are thinner and tend to wear out quickly. If you wear a long skirt, you can hide the parts of the hosiery that tend to wear out the most and replace them less. Holes tend to form in the joints, like the knee, and along the seam that joins the crotch. You'll notice that oftentimes when skirts get longer, so does footwear- this is also to save on the hosiery! There's actually a whole thing about this and how when the economy and political climate get bad, skirts get longer and clothes less form-fitting, and there are lots of suggestions for why that may be. It is cheaper to dress like that, but it might not all be financial. Some of it may be about fashion changing to reflect fear. When people are afraid of things, they tend to wear clothes that are loose and cover more of their body- perhaps for the same reason that when people are scared they tend to hide under blankets. There's a psychological component to it.
The hemline that they've shown for this decade is spot on i think. I never knew but realized now that most of my dresses have hemlines that stop mid calf. Good to know why now ! :)
Not gonna mention micro-minis of the 2000's, or denim skirts? And the 2010's one was not accurate at all. The high-low skirt or skater/circle skirt would've been way more accurate .
They wouldn't wear that much makeup in the 1910s, if not any. Also, the skirts of the 1920s were way longer than right below the knee. Most were still mid-calf or longer. Skirts didn't start rising up a lot until the late 50s and early 60s. You guys really need to do more research.
Brighten S. 👏👏👏👏👏 their research was probably films depicting the 1920s, and the hemline, and excessive makeup, was more for looking better on camera than being accurate.
abbey buckingham Theyre professionals, yes, but they’re professionals in THIS fashion era. There are literally people who study fashion history who can verify that 1920s, 1950s representation is false. Karolina Zebrowska has made several videos on this topic :)
And hemlines in the 20s didn't creep up to the knee until 1926, and above the knee until 1928, so most of the decade wasn't as short as they were describing it
Yup..."flappers" were a small minority of women. The average farm wife or secretary wore dresses that reached mid calf, and most still had long hair as well.
No, they didn't. 20's dresses were not knee-length literally ever except the few outsiders that were considered disgusting. Knees weren't shown in fashion until the 60's.
Yes..this part was not accurate...like the 2000's. Almost nobody showed their ankle. Even in that picture the girl wasn't showing her knees. I hate how they present the 20's .
To equate the 2010s' longer hemline with political climate is just ridiculous. Longer hemlines don't equal repression. We are past that. Now hemlines are a matter of aesthetic preference.
It's hard when you get to the last 20-30 years to realy name one 'defining' hemline for each decade. Especially in today's globalized world of fast fashion trends come and go within a few weeks.
I was a teenager in the mid-90s and long skirts were extremely common then - yes, some women wore miniskirts like they had done in the previous 3 decades but long floral print skirts and dresses were common too.
I feel like that hemline has been a trend for just a couple months- maybe a year or two, but certainly not the whole decade. I think even maxi skirts would be more accurate
The 2010s are more of a boho style, loose and flowy. They got the floral print right, but the neckline is way too high and the sleeves are too tight. It’s all around too tight and conservative to match today’s style.
You probably weren't around in the 2000s you're completely wrong they always show the worst things for the 2000s there were way better looking dresses for the 2000s. And even that one weren't as ugly as 1910
1940’s women wouldn’t have worn green dresses very much due to the amount of green dye being set aside for the war materials BUT THATS NOT THE POINT! GREAT VIDEO😁
The 50's style dress'hemline was just beautiful! I love the way it flowed to a very wide skirt at the bottom. It would look so flattering on anyone who wore it
Thanks for noting this! I'm not the only one annoyed by that. It also rose above the ankle a few times during the medieval times, especially for peasant women so they could move easier.
It was quite prominent throughout history that the lower class women had higher hems, mostly for purpose as you said, but also as they could not afford enough material earlier back in history.
@karin prince I'm annoyed because the most random of things annoy me. Why did you chose to single me out out of everyone here? Also your horrid English is annoying me too, I can't understand half of what you're saying.

Jessica Mason Maxi skirts are offered in literally every large teen-ish clothing chain (forever 21, Urban Outfitters, h&m) and stores like target, Marshall’s, Macy’s, and any large store. Hemlines are really variable now but I’ve noticed longer skirts becoming more popular.
I've never seen someone under 40 wear a skirt longer than the knee. Thin people usually wear super short skirts just because then can and everyone else doesn't wear skirts or dresses at all.
Don’t know if anyone commented this but the 1910s dress was not the first time a dress showed a woman’s ankle. Working class women back all throughout the 1700s had to make the hemline up to 1 3/4” above the ankle to avoid the petticoats ans dresses dragging in the mud and getting dirty.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love how the trendy dress styles have changed over the years in western history! They're all so unique. I just love how the 1950's styled dresses puff out!
Really? The 2010s on is very inaccurate. I see no one with that length. It’s not cute it’s matronly. Reese Witherspoon is in her 40s. She’s not exactly a fashion plate.
tndrlytastefully It wasn't really common in 2010, but it seems to be now. I've been seeing many dresses in all kinds of stores that have that type of hem (and this was in the petite/juniors sections). I was actually pretty shocked by it. But so far I haven't seen anyone actually wearing them yet.
I think the style of dress they showed for 2010 wasn't all that great but the length is definitely something I see around, perhaps because it's my personal preference I'm just more likely to notice others wearing it?
Actually, the 1910's are not the first time skirts showed the ankles. Hemlines have risen and fallen a bit over the centuries. (Although never being shorter than ankle length before the 1920's) Especially in the 1830's hemlines were quite short.

Just a note of historical inaccuracy, womens dress had been showing ankles for hundreds of years, notably during the 18th century with the fashionable robe a la polonaise.
It's Jowke but the video was based on popularity and trends and i think we can all agree here that skater skirts, denim ripped skirts, checkered skirts or just any short skirts in general are way more popular than the long ones. i mean just go on instagram for a few minutes and you'll see for yourself. Ive never seen someone under 40 wear a dress as long as that
Ikan Duyung can’t say anything with out getting attacked. All I said was it reminded of one, not that the we’re copying or anything. RUclips is a place we people can do similar videos and build on them. Dang!
2000's was possibly (in my opinion) the ugliest fashion trend anyhow but I don't think that reflected 2000's fashion at all like I would've said some Paris Hilton type outfit with a denim skirt cause that's not very accurate
I'm surprised there was no mention of super short jean skirts in the 2000s
Rachel Lee right! Or the mini leather skirts of now
With black capri leggings underneath oh that was a look

Yeah that was just an attempt at making a current political statement. Meh.
But economic depression often leads to a rise in more conservative values (for the time)
There's actually an economic reason for this. Most people wear tights/pantyhose under their skirts if they're short, knee highs if they're long, and socks if they're really long. Oh my goodness all of these models are BEAUTIFUL
what no way skirts have been the longest since the great depression!
Just a note of historical inaccuracy, womens dress had been showing ankles for hundreds of years, notably during the 18th century with the fashionable robe a la polonaise.
2010s is really inaccurate.
Les Anderson it depends on your style, some suit the midi skirts, some like the short skirts.
It's Jowke but the video was based on popularity and trends and i think we can all agree here that skater skirts, denim ripped skirts, checkered skirts or just any short skirts in general are way more popular than the long ones. i mean just go on instagram for a few minutes and you'll see for yourself. Ive never seen someone under 40 wear a dress as long as that
90’s yes!!
You dont sayyyyyy
The length for the 90's dress was what the 20's one should've been..
1990 so beautiful!!
So where are the really short skirts? Because I remember those being pretty trendy
1950’s are so beautiful 😍😍would travel back to that time if I could
Dead lol yes
I would but I’m black
:)
Why am I Watching this
Why not?
Same
Markus Laine En tiiä? Meil on kai tylsää?

I need the 1940s and 1950s dress in my life
40's and 50's were the best!! Women looked soooo beautiful and with many style.
The 50s skirts for me is the cutest, and I wish they could bring it back. They look adorable😍😍😍
Maxi skirts were extremely popular in the 1990s, worn in a grungy way with chunky shoes.
Karolina Zebrowska approved this video. It is, therefore, accurate.
shinigamie Except the 1920s. *nOooOOoo0ooOo*
our queen
The 1990’s is what I wanted my school uniform to be when I was like 6
Same tho
I've lived through half of the 70's, 80's, 90's 2000's to present . Mini skirts have been popular amongst ALL of these decades .
these videos really shows that we are free to wear what we want in our decade 👏👏 🙌🏻
Everywhere you look there’s a hem
plz do 100 years of school uniforms!
This reminds me a lot of the buzzfeed videos
Zion Albright wake up. Buzzfeed isn’t the only one and the first one to make this kind of video, ugh
Zion Albright yet they werent first
Ikan Duyung can’t say anything with out getting attacked. All I said was it reminded of one, not that the we’re copying or anything. RUclips is a place we people can do similar videos and build on them. Dang!
Zion Albright It isn't?
All of these models and dresses are so pretty 😍
Every time we watch these I love the 20s. I don’t know why but I always find them interesting.
I loved the 1910 boots
i think we forgot about the trend in the 2000's where we would wear skirts so short that we needed pants under them
Right--I remember that!
4:00 en el 2000 Martha es una lombriz!!! 🎶
Jajajjaa perdón me emocione
I think I'm in love with that 1950's version😍
omg the 1950's girl and outfit were both so cute!
2010???? 🙄😂😂
3:50 what’s the song

Whitney Wisconsin teas
good boi, do you like female dogs?
Me 2
I like turtles
I love the 10's and 30's dresses, they're the most historically accurate I think
100 years of hats? Love these kinds of videos btw!
2000's was possibly (in my opinion) the ugliest fashion trend anyhow but I don't think that reflected 2000's fashion at all like I would've said some Paris Hilton type outfit with a denim skirt cause that's not very accurate
i think everything in 2000 was an explosion and combination of just about everything it was a mess😂
It really was the ugliest
Last one is completely inaccurate. The last hem line should show a chick with her booty hanging out of ripped denim jean shorts and a crop top
AmarisSuh lmao 😂
1950s were cute
The 50s dress was so pretty! I wish I owned one.
I remember the asymmetrical skirts when I was in middle school back in the early 00s. I had a couple of those.
Mini skirts and long skirts be fighting for the glory
