At my first ever competition, I got a one-handed single of 14.09 in the first round, and during the finals, I got 14.29 and 13.05. This was all completely unexpected because I average around 20-21 seconds at home, and considering that I was nervous, who knows how I got three sub-15's.
Hey Dylan! I was on the organizing team, nice to see you enjoyed the comp even though it ended up being a weird one. Hope to see you at more UBC comps!
Taking breaks is very important for developement. I played piano at a relatively high level for years, all of this makes perfect sense! It also helps with mental health, and can help steal back some of that passion from the jaws of "work". Two months is admittedly a bit steep, try taking more intentional and regular breaks for a week or two a few times throughout the year, two months sounds like burn out, and boy should nobody blame you for that. But you'll get better results from your break (and YES, this IS a thing) and contend less with burn out if you break for shorter periods but more frequently. Love ya dude, sick times!
Hi J Perm, Really love all your uploads! I really appreciate all of your technique vids as I have had a really fast improvement, I started cubing earlier this year and now I am sub-20, thanks to you. Loving the videos, keep it up!
Love your videos! You got me into cubing and i love that. The cubing community is so nice and i never thought i would be able to solve a rubik’s cube. Thanks J Perm!
Im going to be honest, I'm not really great at cubing, a year ago I averaged like one minute, but because of you, I now average like 21 seconds wich is an improvement I'd say. I now watch tutorial videos from you and my goal is averaging sub 20 seconds at the end of the year. This is just a thank you :)
Hi guys,I just want to say huge thanks for making this videos from the past, because of u I improved so much these year, thank you!have a great day j perm and the people who is reading this comment!🎉❤😊
Hello J Perm! I know I'm late to commenting on this video, but I just wanted to say that I am a 14 year old cuber trying to get faster, and I first learned how to solve it from your 3x3 beginner tutorial. I'm not constantly watching your videos to improve you have been a huge inspiration to me. I currently average around 32 seconds on 3x3, which I know isn't good at all, but I'm working on it! I just swapped from beginner tutorial+f2L to the full cfop method (2-look oll, 2-look pll) but I have confidence that I will continue to improve, and am hoping to one day meet you irl at a competition or something. I know chances are that you won't ever see this but if you somehow see this then I want to thank you for all the help your videos has given me :)

I used to average 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Now I average 30 seconds. You have not uploaded in 3 months. I am really missing you. And I am also worried.Hope you are ok. Please respond to this comment. Hope you upload soon. Thanks so much
your practicing theory also applies to me on basketball, before i used to play a lot before a game, and i do kinda bad just scoring a few points, but a few weeks ago it was the day before tryouts ad I did not play because it was raining, I ended up scoring 30 points in scrimmage games in tryouts and got in the team, i thought it was a fluke but it actually kinda make sense now since I just got sub 40 single in 4x4 doing sessions when I didn't cube yesterday
That emoji thing looks like the orbs in that speed of light game thingy. That’s the first thing I though of; I don’t know if you know what I mean. I don’t know why I am writing this. Just saying.
I know this comment comes a bit late, but I wanna share what I learnt from being a professional pianist, which relates to cubing in terms of developing technique, muscular memory, and then the knoledge, the looking ahead, and the understanding of the instrument as in many ocassions you need to play in a different instrument from the one you practice daily for hours. I've learn that expectations and the pressure you feel to perform well are but detriments. I've also experience going to an event under prepared, not having practice as much as I usually did, and the results were just great. After going through it a lot of times and going through a big depression that kept me from practicing altogether, I discover that when we practice so much, we create the expectation of getting better results, and that shield us from doing what we best do. Stress and expectations play a weird effect in the body, and prevent us from flowing naturally and putting 100% of our training to use. The story goes long but to sum up, the moment I was able to make my brain think that I was going to the events to enjoy myself, the moment I understood that no matter how much I train, there's a lot of minuscule factors that scape my control and will have an impact in my performance, and that I should just see it as "let's see in which way this performance is unique and what can I learn from it", [...], that was the moment I reached peak performance in my career, even when my technique wasn't as good as before my depression, I was doing better in all fields. Maybe this comment helps someone.
one last thing for everyone if you love something do it and practice it but if you love it, that doesn't mean everyone has to love it I know that forcing someone to love something is one of the worst things to do to someone! thanks for reading
Hey Dylan, it's nice to see that even you don't practice every single day, in a weird way it's actually quite inspiring :) I haven't practiced in 2 weeks :/
So I'm posting this here because, as your most recent video, it seems to me you'll be more likely to see this comment. It's like the RUclips logarithm but in reverse! Basically I just wanted to say thank you. You have really established a quality channel, you're fun to watch, and you display a level of humility and joy that is rare. First I found the 'Wired' tutorial for the beginner method. First solve was 20+ minutes. Then I found your channel. All your stuff bro... so helpful. Now, after a month, I still have three algs left to memorize for 2-look OLL (PI, L and U), my F2L still needs so much work, but I just got a PB of 48' and my ao5 under 1 minute. It's a season of extra intentional thankfulness, you know, and I just wanted to genuinely say thank you for sharing your passion, making it welcoming and so so so fun to watch, and again for your humility. May PB's abound!
Hi Dylan, I just want to thank you for all your tutorial videos. I'm relatively new, I only started learning in June. I finally got the courage to go to my first competition last weekend and although I was nervous and kept messing up my solves, I managed to get a 27s single, which i was happy with because sub-30 single was my aim for the competition.

Hey J Perm, I really like all of your videos and have started to really get into cubing and I was wondering if you could do a review of the MoYu RS3 M Super because I was thinking about getting it
Question: what are you planning and when's your next video? Your content is just too good for me to wait! Also, remember to practice. It's so easy to get rusty.
I've always solved the 3x3 cube as a hobby. Learned the beginner method, then the beginner CFOP method. It has always been really enjoyable, but as time went on this ambition of learning more and better methods to solve the cube faster grew on me. I felt alone too. In my country cubing is not as popular as in the US, so I haven't met anybody who's interested in it too, let alone speedcubing. Lately, after a long while without cubing, I stumbled upon some videos on youtube about speedcubing. Despite my strong ambition to get better and faster at solving the cube, it was really stressing too, so I was ok with what I learned till then. Plus, my only normal 3x3 cube is a Rubik's brand "speed" cube, so it doesn't make it funnier. 😒 But still, these videos kept me interested this time. I started with tutorials, then some competitions, prank videos, blogs... From the distance, I'm diving deeper in this world of cubing I discovered years ago, knowing youtuber cubers and speedcubers, pros and their stories as well. Even though I'm still in my home, I'm having a great time! I started practicing again, these times more deliberately, and not so much just for the fun of solving the cube. I'm learning more: I printed many CFOP algorithms documents to practice, I downloaded and learned to use a timer app on my phone (with computer generated scrambles and stuff), and just today I got my first solve in less than 1 minute! Still trying not to obsess and stress too much though, but overall I'm enjoying it! Anyway, I didn't intend my comment to end up being this big, but thanks to people like you who share their knowledge and experiences on the internet, this hobby has really grown on me, so I thought I'd share my part too. In the future, I hope I can go to those competition places, make friends, have lots of fun, and maybe even trying to actually compete! I got college on my plate rn but who knows, if I keep practicing and improving steadily, maybe one day I'll have improved enough to have a chance. Thank you. Glad I discovered you.
As a professional saxophone player there are so many valid parallels particularly regarding practice and gigs etc. Often you can perform much better trusting your instincts and not trying to cram.
post a new videoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i have been waiting for 2 monthsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Can confirm the moral of this story, I average high 3 on 2x2 but at a recent comp I wanted to get a good 5x5 time so I practised that. I got a 2.39 average that comp and got my first ever podium
Because of your great tutorials I managed to solve the cube in under 20 seconds... Thanks dude... Really means a lot to me... Also.. You definitely deserve over a million subs.... Really
I have some questions that I have nobody else to ask. 1. Is learning full pull and I’ll worth it in the end, does it /can it improve your times dramatically (well more but you know what I mean) 2. I’m struggling to get faster with my f2l (it’s taking me around 30-40 ish seconds to do it- I average around 1:30 to fully complete the cube) and I don’t know how to get faster with learning/ executing algorithms.. advice? 3. How do you improve your tps (turns per second) 4. When I first start the timer I always hesitate (I think it’s just the execution part because I know what u have to do with making the cross) how do I stop the hesitation. I don’t know if anyone is currently reading this, if so I hope it made sense. Thank you!
thank you jperm i just recently achieved my first sub ten and it was in a comp i've been cubing since i saw your how to solve a rubiks cube video in October 2020 and your video was so clear and helpful, also your website was a massive help learning cfop
About 3 years ago, I left cubing since I couldn't master getting sub 40 solves. Recently, my school was doing an event for Maths and for some reason cubing was a small part within it. I was super scared since I didn't condition the cube rotting in the drawer for 3 years and I had forgotten most pll algs, which forced me to use 2 look. I ended up getting a 35 average... I decided to start cubing again and learned every pll alg again. I'm now stuck at 35 averages due to cube lock ups, and insanely slow processing during F2L.
Hello jperm, please just read this message specifically and please believe me that its not just a normal comment: If you'll just upload a video explaining what you're doing (but not returning to upload normally because I know you need your break) then people wont be sad because they wont be knowing wgat happens to you. So please, just upload 1 video explaining what happened, that's all
Jperm please come back! I need you uploading more please your message favorite RUclipsr of all time. Cubehead,Tingman, Z3cubing, and Cube Master are good but your just on another level please come back!
Hey Dylan. I just want to thank you for all the great videos you have made and the inspiration you have gave me. Im on my way to my first comp thanks to you!
Hi Jperm, I average around 28 seconds But I still haven't learnt full oll So when should I start? Also I am not so optimized at cross and f2l, where in I have minor pauses in f2l for recognizing the case So should I focus on improving f2l first or learn full oll first?
Improving F2L is nearly always the better option, also, if you’re averaging around 28, full OLL won’t benefit that much, improving F2L is probably better for you. If you can send me a video a solve i could see where you could improve
When I was in a bowling league, I only did 2 or 3 practice frames before the games started. Anything more, and you're wearing yourself out, especially because you're swinging around 8-16 pound balls. And bowling on a non-competition day would be quite rare for me. I ended up top 3 in the league.

Removing expectations can be such an amazingly effective tool. Takes the pressure we put on ourselves disappear
Kinda random but I love the 7x7 as a phone stand at 16:28, that's really clever x)
Kevin brings that 7x7 to every competition
That’s so true
The first ever Tutorial for my rubiks cube was from your 3x3 tutorial and i really appreciate it ! Thanks to you i can average 30 sec Thank you JPERM btw i subed :DD
Haven't seen you post in a while, you doing ok man?
Being able to solve a cube one handed so fast is amazing. I've been doing my cube for about 16 years and have one side fixed so far.
SHORTCAT FACE REVEAL
😂
Ru kidding bruh this dude was popular Before shortcat
Come back I need you in my life I don’t even remember how to pick up my 3x3 without u posting
I wonder when will Jperm upload again
J Perm: “Yo, you want to go out tomorrow?”
J Perm’s Friend: “Another competition?”
J Perm: “Yeah…”
Hello J Perm, I was wondering if the orientation of the cube mattered when trying to scramble for using your trainer.
scramble with white on top and green on the front
Hey guys I know it’s been a long time since jperms uploaded but he’s coming back soon I hope and it looks like we will suffer together but we can hold on until he uploads again hang in there and hope he returns from his break
Hey J Perm,
I really like all of your videos and have started to really get into cubing and I was wondering if you could do a review of the MoYu RS3 M Super because I was thinking about getting it
3:23 his face were just like “nah i gave up”
when is the next video?????
Can you do a throwback video about best 3x3 speed cubes each year since 2016?
Question: what are you planning and when's your next video? Your content is just too good for me to wait! Also, remember to practice. It's so easy to get rusty.
PS: I will beat you in smash bros.
i am sus
@@skwerl_y kinda sus bro

He still no upload
Where is the new video?
But still, these videos kept me interested this time.
Please come backk

PLEASE UPLOAD!
I got a 2.39 average that comp and got my first ever podium
i think jperm will get 2m subs before he uploads again😀
Because of your great tutorials I managed to solve the cube in
under 20 seconds... Thanks dude... Really means a lot to me... Also.. You definitely deserve over a million subs.... Really
My best is 13 but I average around 22 seconds. What a good pb
Never ask a man about his salary, a woman about her weight, and j perm about his upload schedule.
It’s been 3 months of watching old vids
He has not posted in 2 months :(
Tell me about it
thanks for timestamp at the bottom of description
Lol I thought I was the only one to notice that 😂
Where did you go
j-perm pls come back we miss you 😭😭
plz post i need ur content to stay alive
where are you jperm? it has been more than 1 month!
Day one of asking jperm to make another video
I have some questions that I have nobody else to ask.
1. Is learning full pull and I’ll worth it in the end, does it /can it improve your times dramatically (well more but you know what I mean)
2. I’m struggling to get faster with my f2l (it’s taking me around 30-40 ish seconds to do it- I average around 1:30 to fully complete the cube) and I don’t know how to get faster with learning/ executing algorithms.. advice?
3. How do you improve your tps (turns per second)
4. When I first start the timer I always hesitate (I think it’s just the execution part because I know what u have to do with making the cross) how do I stop the hesitation.
I don’t know if anyone is currently reading this, if so I hope it made sense. Thank you!
With 1:30 average the best advice is to practice and be more familiar with Rubik's cube. You don't need any 1 look algorithms till sub 20
thank you jperm i just recently achieved my first sub ten and it was in a comp i've been cubing since i saw your how to solve a rubiks cube video in October 2020 and your video was so clear and helpful, also your website was a massive help learning cfop
yea i learned cfop from there only i can only do beginner pll and oll
That’s a good website
About 3 years ago, I left cubing since I couldn't master getting sub 40 solves.
Recently, my school was doing an event for Maths and for some reason cubing was a small part within it.
I was super scared since I didn't condition the cube rotting in the drawer for 3 years and I had forgotten most pll algs, which forced me to use 2 look.
I ended up getting a 35 average...
I decided to start cubing again and learned every pll alg again. I'm now stuck at 35 averages due to cube lock ups, and insanely slow processing during F2L.
Hello jperm, please just read this message specifically and please believe me that its not just a normal comment:
If you'll just upload a video explaining what you're doing (but not returning to upload normally because I know you need your break) then people wont be sad because they wont be knowing wgat happens to you. So please, just upload 1 video explaining what happened, that's all
Jperm please come back! I need you uploading more please your message favorite RUclipsr of all time. Cubehead,Tingman, Z3cubing, and Cube Master are good but your just on another level please come back!
where r u Jperm???
he is taking a break from yt
Thank you you taught me how to solve the Rubik’s cube for the first time and know I’m sub 30 hope you start posting soon.
Why has it been so long since you have made a vid?
Jperm's "Meh" is literally me for the upcoming exams😀
Dylan do you live in vancouver I live near there
Hey Dylan. I just want to thank you for all the great videos you have made and the inspiration you have gave me. Im on my way to my first comp thanks to you!
Hi Jperm,
I average around 28 seconds
But I still haven't learnt full oll
So when should I start?
Also I am not so optimized at cross and f2l, where in I have minor pauses in f2l for recognizing the case
So should I focus on improving f2l first or learn full oll first?
Improving F2L is nearly always the better option, also, if you’re averaging around 28, full OLL won’t benefit that much, improving F2L is probably better for you. If you can send me a video a solve i could see where you could improve
Please upload new vid it has been a long time
JPerm, when should I learn the 1 step oll and plls? My average is about 35 seconds my best is 30 with the beginner CFOP method.
Where he gone???
Im curious too
Me too
It’s a good day when j perm uploads
BRO J PERM UPLOAD
When I was in a bowling league, I only did 2 or 3 practice frames before the games started. Anything more, and you're wearing yourself out, especially because you're swinging around 8-16 pound balls. And bowling on a non-competition day would be quite rare for me. I ended up top 3 in the league.
Where jperm
J Perm, I miss you please come back. :(
Can you do oll setup from a j perm? I am very excited if it comes out (which is unlikely). Also great video!
not really that feasible
Which OLL would you be setting up to?
It also would be very inefficient - the amount of setup moves you would probably have to learn would probably equal the length of the normal OLL alg.
