Wow! Great job guys - just seen this. Thanks so much for taking the time to do it. Both parts! Thanks again - love the colour match headstock Strat (Mick here) :0)
Watching this video my door bell rings, who is it? The mailman with what? My D&M drive! Can’t wait to see this sucker sounds going to go plug it in while I finish your video
Dan side sounds better than an OCD because it doesn't sound as cardboardy in the mid-range. Mick side hard to tell much difference. But maybe it sounds a bit fuller in the low end. Which makes pedals like the Tumnus sound better than most klones as well. Stacked the D&M wins hands down as well.
My OCD sounds boxy - is that what you mean by 'cardboardy'? If so, is not just me then! I don't like that boxy tone and am thinking I made a duff purchase.
That's exactly what I mean. However, it can be minimized by running at 18V instead of 9V. I haven't found a gain pedal I like better for mid-gain dirt though. I am looking at the Tree of Life or the Gain Changer. But I have this feeling I will never find anything better than the OCD while at the same time disliking it.
A few observations. First, the Archer has an incredible buffer that directly impacts everything that comes after. Even when it's off, it gooses another overdrive - say, an OCD or a Timmy - in ways that other boosts can't. That's part of the allure. Second, the Archer is providing a distinct "chewiness" and glassy response that I don't hear on Mick's side. I'm interested to know how Mick's side feels under my fingers; my Archer provides a slightly saggy response with shimmering mid-highs. You can hear it in this demo, big time. I don't hear the Mick boost doing that. The response sounds tighter and, frankly, less interesting than the Archer.
Just came across this channel. Good comparison. Really glad the playing samples were back to back comparisons. Also, glad there wasn't just blues leads. Good representation of different chords, lead and single note playing for all us non-blues daddies. Subscribed.
I have both the D&M and OCD on my pedal board. With the OCD after the D&M and different settings on OCD and Dan side. You can drive either one with the Mick side and have a ton versatility.
Man... I really want a D&M drive now! I'm actually running an Archer/OCD combo at the moment, and this pedal fixes all of my slight dislikes about them.
Agreed, Collin. I ran an Archer/Timmy with my AC30 for a long time. I found that the Archer was lush though inarticulate. The Timmy was transparent and nearly completely devoid of character. The D&M knocked both off my board. It's the D&M and KoT for me.
Also, don't get too caught up in the provenance of the circuitry. Mick's side is - to my ears - closer to a slightly-middy Katana Boost than a Klon. Also, Dan's side is smoother than my OCD. Mick into Dan: lightyears better than a Klon into an OCD.
I use an OCD 1.4 and a couple of boosters in my Boss ES-5. You can re-route the order of any pedal in the loops, in any combination, permutation you can think of, including parallel. I love D & M but I don't need it. Great pedal tho.
I have a Keeley Tone Workstation which is pretty great, but I think this D&M Drive might work better for me. I have a Les Paul and play covers from the 50s through today (alt pop mostly). I play through a ZT Lunchbox, because it's easy to carry and loud enough for any gig if I go direct through the board. Any thoughts?
Very informative video; thanks! I was interested in this comparison, as I recently picked up a D&M Drive. I was surprised (and pleased) at how close the tones were (listening on some Yamaha studio monitors, FWIW). That's a sweet matching headstock strat.
I agree and I wonder if the association and those guys and their faces on it makes people view it as more of a novelty than it is. It's a spectacular drive!
Justin L Hey Justin! That's a fair point. I was talking to the Sooze about this too. I actually think the pedal doesn't get taken seriously because of the association, it's a great box!
I feel the opposite myself. Those guys are over the top pedal junkies to the point they make a show about them and Dan makes the best switching system out there. If I were to buy any pedal with someone's faces on it this would be it. Mad respect to Dan and Mick (here)
Coming back to this video after a year of running Archer -> OCD as my do-all drive combo. Honestly I don't think (though I haven't tried it) that the D&M is just a Klon + OCD - I hear some Boss BD-2 vibes on Dan's side, and I hear some Tubescreamer on Mick's side - these are some of their beloved circuits after all, and I didn't see them rocking the OCD until later episodes. An Archer kicking an OCD can get heavy if you want to, but I also think it's a better combo if you want some nice low gain / edge of breakup tones. Still would love to try the D&M someday. One less patch cable and one less spot on the PSU. The order switch is also a BIG plus. Also: just wondering if you ran the OCD in HP or LP for this demo?
I imported one for Brazil. I used to play with a Les Paul and 335. IMO, the mike side is fantastic. A kind of klon with a TS thing, but the dan size is too fuzzy. I dont like it alone. Btw, Dan into Mike sounds like a very good crispy and angry TS.
The OCD definitely scoops the mids compared to the Dan side. I'd probly have both OCD and D&M on my board. As for the Mick side it's less harsh than the Archer. All Great pedals.
It's amazing what different people hear. For me D&M drive was better stacked and Mick side had a nicer tone than the rockett. Dan's side and OCD were very similar. Seems to me if you like the OCD sound then you won't go wrong by having both on your board. With an OCD set to different levels compared to Dan's side and Micks side as the secret sauce for both
OCD sounded super dark in the first comparison, much preferred the D&M but the dude playing said they were pretty much the same? Was pretty stark to me, might just be differing settings
What version of the OCD are you guys using for this comparison? I know that Fulltone just release an official v2... D&M Drive sounds great, but I already have an OCD, so I am wondering if my money would be better spent on a good Klon or Klone... ?
In this video it was a version 1.4. Sometime next in the next couple weeks we are doing the difinotve OCD comparisons. We are currently acquiring all 7 iterations of version 1 and the new version 2. I think Klon type pedals are something everyone should have in their arsenal.
I have an OCD 1.4 and the D&M. I love the OCD, but the D&M feels like it cuts through a little bit better. So, I've removed the OCD from the board, and put the D&M in its place. But a buddy of mine has played through mine, and he thinks that the OCD feels more responsive. So I guess personal preference is what it comes down to.
Robert Simpson I have an ocd. Love it. I also have a d&m drive and I love that to. To my ears very different. So worth keeping/getting both. Interestingly I’ve ditched my mojohand colossus fuzz after using the d&m. Does everything I wanted a sovtek muff type fuzz to do but could never get out of it. D&m sort of sings. Sounds corny but it’s simply brilliant.
Out of interest and having seen your OCD comparison, which OCD version did you use in this? Also did you play on the drive first/boost first switch in these demos?
Great tight back to back comparison, guys! I think I liked the OCD & Klone better than the Keeley. With all due respect to Robert, I'm honestly pretty disappointed that it sounds almost 100% identical to the tried and true fulltone and klones, i feel like he's pushing the market with the hype of Dan & Mick's and lacking on efforts on adding much else. Just my worthless .02
I’ve been eyeballing this pedal for awhile and planned to buy it next weekend. You just talked me out of it though. I have an OCD and Klon already. Hmm less cables and free up a power port... maybe I’ll get it anyhow hahaha
Wow! Great job guys - just seen this. Thanks so much for taking the time to do it. Both parts! Thanks again - love the colour match headstock Strat (Mick here) :0)
Thanks Mick, Big fans of That Pedal Show! Thanks for the love. (H.W. out) :)
But everyone knows that a color matched headstock takes away from the tone... duh lol.
Whoa! Don't start off the "I take everything literally" brigade!!
I should really get a D&M Drive at some point because i have Klon clone and OCD on my board anyways, this would make everything easier.
exactly the comparison I needed to see. thank you for making this. totally sold on the d&m drive - what a great pedal
Great job. Very thorough. Wish a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe would have been there for the showdown.
Awesome comparison. I like the crisp high end of the Dan but agree that it's probably too much gain for most blues and rock type sounds.
Watching this video my door bell rings, who is it? The mailman with what? My D&M drive! Can’t wait to see this sucker sounds going to go plug it in while I finish your video

1st time watcher, and I've just subscribed... great vid folks
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for making this. Great to hear and see direct comparisons and to also use humbuckers too
This just made me happy that I ordered a D&M Drive yesterday. :)
Larry Lachmann it's a killer pedal! Enjoy.
Me too... haha! Just yesterday!
I use an OCD 1.4 and a couple of boosters in my Boss ES-5. You can re-route the order of any pedal in the loops, in any combination, permutation you can think of, including parallel.

for both pedals the D&M side seems brighter, but it could be a Tone knob setup only.
Very informative video; thanks! I was interested in this comparison, as I recently picked up a D&M Drive. I was surprised (and pleased) at how close the tones were (listening on some Yamaha studio monitors, FWIW).
That's a sweet matching headstock strat.
Love that Start!
I Agree 100% with what the 1st guy said @ 3:15. and The General Consensus @ 11:07.
D&M crosses the line 1st for me. Just a great transparent full bodied sound. Sure to be a classic!
I agree and I wonder if the association and those guys and their faces on it makes people view it as more of a novelty than it is. It's a spectacular drive!

Well, very interesting! Thanks.
Great demo guys. Thank you.
Great comparison. Thanks. Question: What amp were you plugged into?
Robert Keeley makes a Klon style pedal...the Oxblood.
I did not know that's what it was, I will have to try that! Thanks
Totally different thing. He used the klon speech as a marketing ploy. That said the Oxblood is one of his best pedals. #Peace :)
The OCD definitely scoops the mids compared to the Dan side. I'd probly have both OCD and D&M on my board. As for the Mick side it's less harsh than the Archer.
All Great pedals.
Direto do Brasil, Muito bom friends!!!
norbert taylor Muito obrigada, meu amigo!

How is it no mentions this pedal comes with an awesome gravity pick?!
Shtzweak bummer mine didn’t come with one!
OCD sounded super dark in the first comparison, much preferred the D&M but the dude playing said they were pretty much the same? Was pretty stark to me, might just be differing settings
When you stacked the D&M, was it Dan into Mick or Mick into Dan?
James Donno Don’t you have to have a special rig like the G2 to swap the gain order? Otherwise it’s preset? Am I wrong?
David D no the D&M drive has a switch on it to change the order
According to the text they were stacked opposite of each other. I was wondering if anyone was going to notice that.
James Donno the D&M sound best on together with Dan into Mick. Sold my old OCD twice now. And J Rockett and I just don’t mix well for some reason.
Great demo and I love the riff that you are playing when first comparing Micks side with the Archer. Is that a certain song or just jamming around?
Great sounding PRS
What version of the OCD are you guys using for this comparison? I know that Fulltone just release an official v2...

Love the comparison! Were you playing through the Suhr Bella?
Also, that riff at 2:07 was super tasty...
Ian Weston hey there, it was a kemper. A fender type profile.
Sounds like a transposed version of John Mayers "Slow dancing in a burning room" with fancy chords :-)
Out of interest and having seen your OCD comparison, which OCD version did you use in this? Also did you play on the drive first/boost first switch in these demos?

And me on the other hand, is glad to find a pedal that has my two fav circuits in one box
Subscribed! Great Job!
Davo Garcia thanks for the support Davo!!!
Wondering on the tone match did you have the OCD on HP(high pass) or LP(low pass)???
I’ve been eyeballing this pedal for awhile and planned to buy it next weekend. You just talked me out of it though. I have an OCD and Klon already. Hmm less cables and free up a power port... maybe I’ll get it anyhow hahaha
What amp did you use to record the demos?
Lel Omatiko we are running into a Kemper on a fender style clean profile.
Thanks, I was wondering the same thing!
OCD which version ??
That one is a V4
Love the Mick side, Dan side not so good.
Scamp Thelazycat or dan in to mick
Dan alone is too fuzzy
Archor vs Mick side = Mick Side
OCD vs Dan side = OCD
Agree. But the D&M Drive is very handy & Versatile to have so many good-options, in 1 Pedal.
i agree! one power cable less cable.
Sounds the same to me.
Archer all the way
Archer side is win
they should've stuck an additional knock on both sides rather than their face graphic.
