But this new update is just incredible. Not a ton of effects but the ones that are there sound great (except for the spring reverb settings…not a fan but the other reverbs are great). The Tonex was already a mind blowing value. Now I can do about 80% of everything I want to do with a guitar rig with just the Tonex and, say, a pair of Tech 21 Power Engine 60’s. The Helix covers all the oddball and ambient effects I like to use for the rest of my playing. Mind blowing value. 😎

I've tried everything now and I'm really impressed! All modulation effects sound excellent and I was mostly even able to leave the basic settings. The delays are simple, but sound good and finally there is a usable spring reverb! I had problems with the reverbs before the update. Tonex has dragged me kicking a screaming into the digital world and this just puts a big cherry on top. I'm running it in the loop of an hx effects and I'm now starting to think I don't need to do that.
Similar for me. Got a used Headrush MX5 for a good price. Then got the Tonex1 and have been using it in the loop of the MX5 as my amp and the MX5 for effects. Seeing this update I'm now thinking just do everything with the Tonex1. Or, get the big Tonex for a bit more flexibility.
In your discussion of whether this can replace my other effects, I was thinking I might have to have my DD-5 for a tap tempo. But, the IK website says that the new effects will all support tap tempo. I'm curious how they did this, but am hoping that on the full three button Tonex pedal that you simply tap the currently selected footswitch to set the tempo. Or, perhaps you connect a momentary pedal to the expression jack. I'm hoping it's the former, but could live with the latter. Wishing you covered this in your video
Best overdrive pedal to push my 69 Superbass, perhaps from JTM45 light overdrive to perhaps 800 type overdrive on the high end? Recommendations? Could this new Tonex be a good match? Something as simple as a Blues Driver? Ive had a lot of high end amps, Ecstacy, SLO, JVM410, Kemper Stage, FM3, Headrush Prime, all great for sure, but nothing is as big and immediate as my Superbass. In a whole nother league....
Agree with most statements on good tones from Tonex. I did compare a good clean tone with verb/dly from Tonex and my Fender Tone Master. Basically a toss up for a super quick comparison. Which is saying a lot for Tonex. 179 bucks for Tonex vs 1500 + for TMP.
I'm interested if it increases the overall latency, as I guess it requires much more processing power and the hardware is still the same. Definitely sounds amazing though, especially for the price.
The options here are very limited compared to the other units. This is still primarily an amp capture pedal solution type thing now with some basic and lovely sounding effects but it’s a bit unfair to compare it to other pedals that are also multi effects.

HW, can you confirm that effects are locked to certain slots? For example, I prefer tremolo in front of a reverb. I don’t believe that’s possible with this unit, correct? Thanks ✌
The limited edition is just the white colored big Tonex pedal that comes with additional captures from people like tone junkie pre loaded. All these updates with the effects etc are permanent for all units old and new. I think the unit will be available for everyone in a couple weeks.
I just went to see if they had the updates yet for the regular Tonex I have and they had an update, to 1.7.6 but It's said for reliability for new anniversary edition and general reliability improvements. But I still didn't see any new effects yet. I HOPE IT COMES SOON~!
Can this take the place of your existing FX? For me no. I use whammys, wahs, auto wahs, envelopes in my funk metal playing. I keep asking IK to make a proper full multi-fx unit with expression pedal - like a Helix. I just want one board I can lay down and be done with it, amps and fx and exp pedal, all done, and in high quality. There's also benefits to having it all in one. Just look at what you can do with Helix snapshots, I'm hooked on snapshots, hate old school boards. Until that happens, I'll be using my Helix LT. I keep hoping Line 6 bring out a damn successor coz it's due, Fractals are too expensive, and QC isn't it for me, too small, pedals crammed, no light based EXP pedal which I really want. The Helix still sounds good. It's not the best, but it's still good. I just need that all in one. Whoever gets there first will get my money. IK or Line 6.
HX Effects/HX Stomp/HX Stomp XL + ToneX in the loop. Snapshots control the ToneX using MIDI. I get using the big Helix/LT, in fact I'm hoping Line 6 add some form of captures next update. But for compactness and portability, I prefer the Stomp + other pedals approach.
Will you at some point in the video say that the Kemper is still king or do I have to listen to you just raving about the ToneX for 20 minutes?! The betrayal is crazy!😞😞
😂 I still play a kemper ever time I leave the house because I prefer and all in one unit. The ToneX is a capture player that needs to be on a pedal board or paired with other things to be a full rig. This update gives us some effects but the selection is still pretty basic and while you can use them and they sound good you cant really gif with just this…. IMHO. I love ToneX and Kemper, Sooze plays his ToneX board more than his kemper now but I’m still all kemper on every gig.

QQ: any chance with the new effects blocks you may be doing a worship pack for the Tonex now? Would love to be able to purchase the similar worship packs you have for Kemper and Helix. @@nickg476don’t think so
Love that guitar 😍
Can you edit the effects etc direct from the pedal on the fly without connecting to the computer? Thanks
On the big one yes
They need to make this a permanent addition, not limited!!!
As far as I know, it's permanent.
The limited edition is just the white colored big Tonex pedal that comes with additional captures from people like tone junkie pre loaded. All these updates with the effects etc are permanent for all units old and new. I think the unit will be available for everyone in a couple weeks.
do you have the worship performance pack for this TONEX? thanks
I’ve always said if IK got into the multi fx game they would take over industry. Step 1 complete.
Sounds great
How is you gain set on the ToneX my man?
In the pedal I recommend 8.5 with my captures.
I just went to see if they had the updates yet for the regular Tonex I have and they had an update, to 1.7.6 but It's said for reliability for new anniversary edition and general reliability improvements. But I still didn't see any new effects yet. I HOPE IT COMES SOON~!
I think it’s coming pretty soon… “weeks not months”
Is this available now or is this still in beta?
Available sometimes during november.
F... me that sounds awesome. Free Update. 197 Euro Pedal. THIS is a Gamechanger!
Bro! Your playing skill is 🔥
Thanks 🔥
is the update available like, right now?
They’re the same effects that are in their X series pedals, aren’t they?
Why did you demo it in mono?
When is this update supposed to drop?
it sounds like it will coincide with the release of the limited edition white tonex....so on or about Nov 24th (date credit to @hgostos)
Hope the software version is going to have this upgrade.
It will. Im actually using the software.
@@ToneJunkieTV ver 1.7?
I really miss some auto-wah, vibrato and octave in this pedal...
What, they sold the unit without effects? How could you buy it then 🎃👍🤭
Can this take the place of your existing FX?
For me, maybe.
Although the hx effects is really a great controller for the tonex, I think I'd miss that part.
hey ik add midi to the tonex one. then I buy 3.
DL'd the update. Can't see the new stuff!
@@ToneJunkieTVI guess to an extent this soaks fir itself. I'm holding out for a full floorboard from IK. If I could get Amplitube/ToneX in a modeller then I'd be very happy.
very cool
Does anyone know why IK have not made the Beta version available to all people. Or have they? Really unclear.
There are a couple bugs in the beta I have. They sent it to the creators who made stuff for the limited edition pedal. I think the bugs are getting sorted and then it’s going out to everyone pretty soon.
@@ToneJunkieTV Thanks for clarifying the current situation
I just don't if I could take another another video referring to 'amp simulators' as 'amazing' or 'luscious' or 'fantastic' or 'a plexi sound'!?!?!?!?!?!
The back button is where it's always been. 👋
@@ToneJunkieTV 😂👍
QQ: any chance with the new effects blocks you may be doing a worship pack for the Tonex now? Would love to be able to purchase the similar worship packs you have for Kemper and Helix. I know the Tonex is limited to just the one delay and one modulation (like chorus as you mentioned) vs. (Im assuming...i own neither) the Kemper and Helix...but is there enough that it would be feasible? (both from the cost of your time to develop the capture and could the hw recreate a satsifactory tone/sound) Thanks for the vid!
This move while may be calculated, is very very customer friendly and going above the industry standard...kudos IK!
This is so stupid. They really need to just put all the AWESOME AMPLITUBE EFFECTS pedals in there and call it a fuckin day.
can we use the tonex fx part without amp?
Why would you do that their amp capturing is objectively better than the Kemper!
Yes. You can defeat the amp and can portions and it’s just an effects pedal.
@@vaughanmacegan4012 The situations can be many, if I have the opportunity to use a real amplifier I will not use the captures but I can use it to manage the effects saving space in the pedalboard, very simple
@@EmanueleInnocenzithis.
@@vaughanmacegan4012 you keep saying objectively better. When was the last time you sent a nulled guitar signal to FOH? That’s the only way anybody is gonna hear a noticeable difference. In a mix, it becomes completely subjective. And they all sound great! Let Kemper people Kemper and you do you. All conversations don’t need to be “l’m right and you’re wrong” scenarios!
Act normal man. Just a couple of ordenairy effects attached to the Tonex, that's all.
Digital Fizz 👎
Saying things like that’s a GOAT move makes you a Beta sir! #ToanboneBeta
@@kane6529 😂 Tomorrow morning when I wake up to the laughter of my 3 healthy children, and my wife making me eggs my favorite way with coffee…I’ll stroll down my stairs, sit with her on the couch, we usually turn the fireplace on in the morning and listen to Christmas music this time of year…
I’ll put away my thankfulness and instead remember that some guy named “kane6529” on RUclips thinks I’m a beta…
Nevermind… I won’t think of you at all.
Fix the dog shit software first, before adding more to these Tonex pedals.
V true
The software is dire and so convoluted and confusing.
How far are we from IK saying “hey, just use a TRS cable and you now can use two different captures”?
They have the blocks 🤷🏾♂️
Update does not work. I am underwhelmed by Tonex's ineptitude...lol...
@@fritzkleinman I’m on a beta, this is what the next update will be. It will be out sometime in November.
Still doesn't equal the Kemper Player Levels 1 FX with no upgrades.
In what way? ToneX now has more than 2 FX slots, which from Kemper is a slap in the face to "every" single modern guitar player. The amp capturing technology is 'objectively' better than Kemper, see Leo Gibson videos on the matter, and the ToneX is almost half the price of the Kemper Player. Kemper $1,100-$1,399 AUD; ToneX $739. I don't know about you but having change from $1,000 in this economic climate is a God-send. I really can't see why you would say that it's better. In what way is the Kemper objectively better?
@@vaughanmacegan4012I mean at what point is it just worth buying a full on Kemper though? They update it for free for many many many years now. Suck it up and buy a solid unit and don’t worry about “upgrades” in the future
@@allstopblue5717 The problem is the Kemper profiles, they aren't that great. I mean that hid range hump is very noticeable. ToneX is objectively better check Leo Gibson vids on that. I want really good quality amp sims I am hoping that soon there will be a Unit that is using NAMM amp profiles with a full-on FX suite, then, I will be happy and fork over whatever amount of money they want.
@@vaughanmacegan4012 the kemper isn't better, just like fractal fanbois who feel that expensive equals better...lol
@@youscreamiscream Yeah, at this point, it’s all about which workflow you get on the best with. They all sound great.
Yes, Tonex, its a great bargain.
But they sound like bargain effects, in all fairness.
HX Stomp Effects make Tonex effects sound like Toys.
HX Stomp has World-Class Reverbs and Delays.
I guess you are in the business and already have the beta version??
Line 6 sucks. Fuckin digital sounding crap.
"forget all the capture stuff"... don't worry, I've already forgotten it. I tried making captures for tonex, spent an afternoon, couldn't get it to work. Just sticking to my kemper going foward.
Tonex is so easy to use and capture. Shouldn’t have given up.
I can only assume that it FEELS incredible to play. The sounds hitting my ears are not doing it for me. Especially the chorus.
Very easy. Step 1 - deconstruct a Kemper to see how it works. 2 - steal the technology. 3 - market it as if it’s something completely new.
Well, that would be apt "iff" they didn't improve on the defects of the Kemperunit. The amp capturing is objectively better, don't believe me check out Leo Gibson videos on that topic to see for yourself.
@ I have been using a Kemper Head for over ten years. Zero defects.
@@jimmcdougall9973 But are the profiled amps objectively better than the ToneX, the answer is no!
@@jimmcdougall9973 Good for you - but the simple fact of the matter is the ToneX profiles are objectively better than Kemper. At least with the Kemper Head you get for pre/post FX which is something.
@@jimmcdougall9973same. Had mine for many many many years. Free updates the whole time. No problems. These new buyers think they’re skirting the game with the tone x. lol Kemper is a solid product and a proven solid company. Yes the cost is high to get in but if you buy the actual full profiler head or rack version you are set
When will it be released?
I think they said November sometime. I would imagine before they all go home for Thanksgiving vacation.
