There is a great scene before Jackie gets killed. He is playing chess with the girl, he knocks the pieces over because he realizes he will probably lose, and the dad points out Jackie will never learn by giving up and running off. A metaphor for his whole life.

Exactamundo, Jackie Jn was always an A grade deucebag. Hard to believe he came from Jackie Sn. More like he came from the equally inept Richie Aprile.
Jackie Jr. was the privileged douchebag son of Jackie Sr. who grew up on the street and had to fight his way to the top. Jackie Jr. had everything handed to him and it showed.
@@theprinceoftides6836 at least Ritchie was a tough guy from the street lol. He was way smarter than jackie as well.
@@FU05241960 that's why Jackie Sr (and Tony with AJ) didn't want his son to work in the business. You have to be a starved street dog to make it, not some pampered poodle.
His funeral was such a heartbreaking thing. The nearly empty room, the guy talking on his phone in the back, people using it as an excuse to get out of house arrest, the picture board showing all the potential he had, the cops arresting people at the funeral topped off by his mom's scream. Between the few outbursts of emotion from Meadow and Jackie's mom, the saddest thing was that the few people that showed up didn't really want to be there.
Cause the kid was a dumb fuck who nearly drowned in 3 inches of water. He brought it on himself demanding everything just because his father was a mob boss
I always thought as well (I agree with everything you said) that it shows you're only the man and important WHEN you're the man. If his Dad would have been acting boss, everyone would be there and even worse, act like they cared about him but it doesn't take long to fall out of the spot light.
Regardless of whatever potential he had, if your personality isn’t enjoyable in life especially if it’s noticeable, people are gonna treat your funeral very uncaring.
Poor Jackie Jr., he never saw that parade float coming up behind him...

Yep. OD'd a couple of months ago.
I thought he was smarter than that.
Jackie's biggest problem was that he thought because he was Jackie Apriille's kid he felt that he should have everything handed to him. But he was unwilling to actually put in the time to actually gain the respect of Tony and his crew. He wanted too much too soon.
plus he was an idiot. 'let's rob the mob crew we're working for so they'll respect us'
@Johnny Testinator He just got schooled by the wrong guys. Ralphie was a great earner but a horrible teacher.
Every gangster fathers at least one Jackie Jr. Entitled pricks.
It's kind of hard to respect a guy whose nickname is "Little Lord Fuckpants".
If he had a couple more brain cells the heist could actually have been a success. If no one died i think Tony wpuld have been used enough to hear him out
Jackie Jr looked up to his fawtha and admired the life he lead, not understanding that most of those guy's goal was to create a setting where their kids didn't have to resort to the life. And that's the biggest tragedy.
People like Tony and Jackie Sr. can't really be honest about what they want, they say it's all about their family but I think the show does a good job showing that it's just as much about the lifestyle for these people. Imo the real tragedy is that people like Tony and Jackie Sr can't convince their kids not to go down this path because they're hypocrites. Like you can't at once enjoy all the perks of a job like that and then say it's just a necessity to look after your family, your behavior is showing that you don't really believe that, and so of course your kids won't either when you say otherwise.
@@mb7626 Definitely. They speak out of both sides of their mouth.
(Read this in Melfi's voice lol)
It's an interesting study on nature vs nurture and brings to light ideas about morally malleable people at vulnerable points in their life, manipulated by sociopathic psychos into becoming sociopathic psychos through a type of survivalistic necessity. (whew)
Some of them are bad because they want to be but some are bad because they have to be and they've had to be for so long they can't get out, even if they really wanted to. Even if they did old behavioral patterns and traits manifest again in the new life. Jr with his candy racket for example. (He was a "want to" person.)
Tony was a "have to" and while he wanted to quit, a mixture of pride and duty kept him tied in. Plus like you said he liked the life. (More pride) But he didn't want that responsibility and obligation for his son. Or Jackie Jr.
Tony wanted better for his son but also knew AJ wasn't capable. And Tony resents AJ and himself for that failure to be capable, even if he never wanted him to have to resort to that capability. Its a definition of character.
Tony would be someone else if his father earned a similar wage an honest way. AJ would be the same if Tony earned his wages honestly. Jackie Jr would likely be the same whether his fawtha was connected or not, J.J was an incapable wannabe.
Ironically despite being good looking and jacked he had a huge insecurity about his masculinity trying to live up to his dad who was his frame of reference for what a tough successful man looks like
He was too stupid to see that a hot med student then doc with a great body who's also a rich kid would have made him a social player and looked great in women's eyes. He didn't need to hurt anyone or commit crimes
Most dudes would have killed just for his looks never mind his money or career options which I think is what annoys people as much as the wannabe thing...he didn't know how good he had it and p1ssed it all away
The biggest tragedy was that he has an iq of 78 and zero street smarts

I freakin LOVE the look on Richie’s face when Janice puts that first one in his chest. Great acting to get me to hate a character so much. Richie was so focused on Tony that he didn’t realize that beneath all her Buddhist nonsense, she was a str8 gangster too.
If Janice was a man, she would have been running North Jersey.

That was one of the best moments of the series, imo.

His death scene still cracks me up to this day just because Ralphie choose Vito to do it, who struggled to get into the getaway car after the hit.
Maybe a trailer could have been attached to the back of the car so Vito could have rolled on and off in order to shoot Jackie?
It was also just a poorly shot scened.
He never had the makings of a varsity mobster, and his dad and Tony both knew it. Also in regards to the card game story, Ralph may have left a few details out. Like the fact Tony and Jackie Sr didn't kill anyone and they were almost killed by Feech themselves until Richie intervened.
Actually; Ralph did make it clear that it was a success because no one got hurt and the right people got some of their money back.
I thought that it also had something to do with Tony's dad.
I thought Feech was actually in on it and got a percentage.

This is a good video, but two mistakes. Jackie, Jr. wasn’t in Rutgers Medical School. He was at Rutgers taking pre-med classes. Second, Chris told him that his friend couldn’t sell Ecstasy at the club anywhere. Task forces, FBI, etc. That is what landed Asher in the hospital
And Ralph only offered an alternate supply stream for the x, he never took points off of his action.
Well, in the end Matush is the "last man standing" of the Jacky Jr. glorified girls scout troop.

Tony passive aggressively put Jackies death in Ralph's court by telling him hes a captain now and to handle it the best way he sees fit.
Ralph was always complaining that he was getting passed over for being captain, and then when he has to make a tough call as a captain, he doesn't want to do it.
“Brains to study at Rutgers” is being generous
Rutgers isn't Ivy league
Doesn’t matter Meadow had The Brains and Jackie Jr. Had No Brains
? i think its pretty obvious tony beats up jackie in the bathroom because hes dating his daughter and at a strip club getting a lap dance. Tony is ok with cheating on his wife but someone doing it to his daughter is what pissed him off.
Well, logic isn't really a part of it.
Yes, I would say that makes perfect sense for him to think and act on.
You forget he was “a strict Catholic”.
Yeah, but none of that moralizing comes into play when a father is protecting his OWN daughter. Every parent, even the gangster kind, wouldn't let that stand.
Besides, Tony's whole existence is laced with hypocrisy.
One was a made shine box, the other was not.
It's sad when they go young like that. Kid had potential. He could have told you what the capital of Canada is.
You also forgot to mention part of Ralph's difficulty in having to order Jackie's death was his relationship with Rosalie Aprile
Also his cousins was the one who was chosen to kill him.
It’s a bit ironic, but Jackie enjoys football and seemed good at coaching AJ too. If Tony had convinced him to focus on that rather than going the doctor route maybe things would’ve turned out differently.
Really anything other than pre-med would have been fine, the science majors are brutal on the undergraduate level in particular because freshman/sophmore year you have all the chem/bio lectures and labs. My roommate in college was a chem major and the first two years were miserable for him. Meanwhile I'm sitting there on the Criminal Justice track coasting to an easy 3.2 without really trying.
This goes for a lot of people pursuing a career, they do want they’re told to do rather than what they enjoy.

With how many things this kid had going for him, his intelligence, looks and birth, he could have been world-class in his chosen field whether that was medicine or crime.
But he lacked even the slightest hint of wisdom. He didn't think things through and he chased his ridiculous image of a cool gangster. He chose wrong in every possible situation, no one took him seriously, he was just a nightmare.

I think he was more Pre-Med (undergrad), than a full on Med student-unless he was in an accelerated academic program. What gives this (the fact that he was still an undergrad, hence Pre-Med student) away, was the literature assignment Meadow helped him with. For the most part, you don't take such classes in Medical school. At any rate, good channel.
It's a shame really, cause I think Jackie could have handled a regular major like business, but pre-med is pretty brutal in the undergraduate years with all the chem/bio labs and lectures.
He was definitely in pre-med as an undergrad, not a medical student like you said.
In one conversation, he tells tony he doesn’t have the grades to get into medical school
Jackie's conversations that resulted in the botched robbery reminded me of Matthew Bevilaqua and Sean Whats-his-name's conversations about trying to get ahead in the family.
