AJ was the biggest piece of shit on the show. Never heard anyone outside of the USA actually sympathise with AJ maybe Americans are just raised differently. In my opinion anyone who thinks that level of disrespect to their parents is justifiable, or that AJ is some ‘poor victim’ is an actual embarrassment.
Mikey looked and acted like a mafia guy. He went too soon, we needed at least 2 seasons with him. He was never annoying to me, same with Ralphie. The others were annoying though, but I think Tony's mother had to be annoying for a reason. The others were just annoying to the viewers and I really didn't enjoy their characters.
I’m honestly really surprised Georgie didn’t flip after all the abuse he went through with no promotions. The dude at the very least knew where Emil’s body is buried and probably more
I always thought Georgie was a character who was trustworthy and loyal enough to hang around with the guys but too dumb to actually be in the mob. I'm pretty sure he's considered as an "associate".
Yeah, I agree. Noah was so fucking obnoxious. Every sentence that character spoke rubbed me completely the wrong way and I can't even really put my finger on why.
I have always perceived Feech card game scene as Tony somehow recognizing that Feech at least has some balls not to be an ass-kisser like others and that this saved him from being whacked and only being sent to prison.
Interesting idea...never thought of that. My thought was Tony instantly realized that Feech had no respect for him or his crew, considering them all "kids" who should automatically kiss their elder's ass. I think he was sent back to prison just out of respect for his age and who he was in the past.
I'd say these are the most unlikeable characters in the show, not the worst. Characters here like Ralphie, AJ, Janice, and Livia were not only entertaining to watch despite them being so annoying, but were also all such good characters, with arcs, who served important purposes in the story. Livia is actually one of my favorite characters.
Ralph is my favorite character. I actually think he’s one of the most likable in a sociopathic way. He was one of the most exaggerated characters and that’s what made him great
it´s pretty obvious that he meant worst characters in the sense of these characters having a bad personality. He didn´t mean that these are badly written characters.
Livia was great. Nancy Marchand portrayed the cunning, manipulative old lady to perfection. The woman was literally playing mobsters against each other. Also, Ralph was a great character. You hated him but liked him at the same time. He was a charming psychopath.
"Worst." You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. Unlikeable, tragic, and pathetic are the words you're looking for. Using the word worst to describe a character in a show implies that they are poorly written, or bad for the show in some other way.
Mikey Palmice is probably one of the most liked characters actually, easily my top 3 favorite mobsters of the show and the fact he was only in one season was a travesty, Chase Agrees. This is a total miss for this topic.
I effing love Mikey myself, hes one of my favorite things about season 1, i think its because he had the best acting performance behind him, Al Sapienza had some damn good comedic delivery and i feel he made that character a lot better than he was supposed to be, and I wasn't too upset with his death because i think he got an entertaining and satisfying out
Just rewatched season 1 and was surprised how much I liked Mikey Palmice this time around. He really does very little to make us hate him. We hate him because Tony does, and Tony constantly enters a battle of wits with Mikey which he rarely wins. That’s why he had to physically beat him down. Mikey and Junior was a great pair.
Mikey was my favorite character. He wouldn't let the life ( or even Tony) get him down. JR Hung around with worse characters than Tony but Mikey appeared more normal ( less psychotic) than Tony's whole crew.
And why didn't Tony face any repercussions for doing that to mikey? They made such a big deal about him being made and Chris can't touch him AND Ralph later, but Tony literally staple gunned and beat the s*** out of Mikey and not a peep.
He doesn't mean they're the worst characters but that they're personalities were the worst.not that they weren't interesting or entertaining. Some of them were the best at being the worst.
Mustang Sally is at least an honorable mention, despite only being in one episode. Despicable character, but a testament to the acting abilities of one Brian Tarantina (who unfortunately passed away in 2019). He only has a few acting credits to his name, but had quite the range! He can go from an overtly flamboyant drag Queen in Summer of Sam to a two-fisted tough guy in Sopranos like it’s nothing.
It's because she's charmless and a very realistic personality type -- I think most fellas know women with Janice-esque traits. It's a very specific manipulative, scheming personality type that some women have.
I absolutely loved Janice despite the fact many fans can't stand her. She was a hysterical caricature, Livia 2.0 and she had some memorable and hilarious scenes.
@@wat5709 besides the horse? What about the young mother he beat to death? Lol I don't find Janice lovable, I just loved her character. I loved Ralphie as a character too but he is a psychopath and not at all lovable to me lol
I felt sorry for Livia in the flash back when she has a miscarriage that almost kills her but her husband Tony’s Dad decides to stay the night with his Goomah instead and gets Tony to help lie for him. I’m still wondering as to why she only kept stuff of Tony’s though in her old age. Some where deep in her she must’ve still considered him her favorite child for actually sticking around
to be fair, even before the miscarriage, Livia threatened to poke Tony's eyes out with a fork for annoying her, and refused to get out of the rich mafia lifestyle when Johnny Boy planned to escape from it all, keeping her husband and kids in a dangerous lifestyle because she wants to keep being rich. She had always been a a bit of a nut
I think the gabagool should get an honorable mention. I'm convinced it was an FBI informant. It had access to many of the meetings where stuff went down. Agent Goddard's stops at Satriales was a cover for their meetings. Not to mention it knocked Tony out on more than one occasion.
Aj had Tony's mental health issues with a whole lot more self awareness and understanding of the real world. That's why he was affected more than Tony by his issues.
Jesus Rossi. Anytime I watch this show with someone who hasn't seen it before they're always screaming "TELL HIM" to the screen at Dr. Melfi during the final scene of his episode.
@@rickrolledtruth5834 I am a die hard fan and I don't remember this scene either. Part of that may be, however, because as the show refined itself and got better over the years, it made the earlier seasons hard to watch. I mean, Vito standing in line to get doughnuts behind Chris as he yells at the kid working there- acting like they don't know each other. Those little errors and dialog issues were more polished as time wore on. So I didn't tend to watch season 1 and 2 as often.
How, how HOW did Valentina not make this list? Also, half of these characters were great well written characters. If your argument is “They’re there because they’re unlikeable”, almost ALL of the characters are unlikeable. Even the lovable Bobby kills an innocent man.
Couldn't agree more. Ralphie, for instance, was a human turd of the highest order but was a fantastic character. I reckon the worst crime for a character to be in the Sopranos is boring or poorly acted.
@@MaquiladoraIIIRalph was far from boring or poorly acted so thats not why he is on the list. But agree, Joey pants was brilliant as Ralph, its a classic role.
Title should be the "best worst characters" of Sopranos. With your Pure kino interview you said you "hated" Richie but didn't specify. Some characters were bad and unwatchable like Felstien and Noah. Others, like Richie and Ralph were very entertaining antagonists. There's a difference but it seems they're merged in this video.

"Worst" isn't the best word. Most hated is better. The actors did a good job making you didn't the character so much. Many of them were meant to be disliked. Saying the worst implies the actors had a hand in it. Just my opinion
Butchie"s character had to be patterned after the bully's sidekick, in the Christmas Story movie. Same mannerisms and characteristics, the movie the character was known as Grover Dill.
Your definition of “worst” needs a bit of an explanation. Most of these characters played a pivotal role in the plot and provided a lot of entertainment.
@@rustykuntz94 Good list. If Jackie was a good person he could have graduated medical school making six figures even married meadow. But he had to throw it all the way. The soprano and aprile name.
Glad to see the AJ Soprano made the list. While the actor did a great job portraying the role, AJ as a character was dull, stupid, and spoiled. I liked him in Season 1 but then things quickly started going downhill after that.
He's the better of the 2 kids. I was hoping the daughter would get herself.clipped but they just kinda faded her ugly annoying ass out slowly. The son at least kept his spot for most part
@@Zack_410 that’s not true. AJ is way more than just a spoiled kid. There’s a ton of depth to AJ and the way he was raised by Tony and Carmella. They really failed him and everyone just blames AJ for being lazy when he didn’t have much of a chance with the way his parents treated him. There’s even a detail where Tony brings up what colleges AJ wants to go to and AJ happily says Harvard or West Point. Tony quickly says he’ll never make it into either and it just puts AJ down. Next time this is brought up a while later Tony says AJ wanted to go to West Point but AJ doesn’t even remember he wanted to go, only that he knew he’d never be able to make it in. There’s so much more depth and the creators did not write him with the idea that no one should like him
Mikey Palmice death was the first Sopranos clip I ever saw when I was too young to be watching it, if only I knew how satisfying it would be watching it again after watching Season 1
I think characters like Livia and Janice, while obviously terrible people, were still good characters. Livia especially has an interesting dynamic with Tony and provides so much context for why he is who he is. I can't really imagine the first season without her.
I think the overall hate for Noah is he's just a smarter Jackie Jr. Both grew up spoiled and entitled, arrogant with a false tough guy image of themselves. What separates the two is Noah has a brain and future plans and. The last we hear about Noah is he got into a fellowship with the UN. Jackie Jr on the other hand wanted someone to do the work for him. Meadow was doing his papers and then he gets upset when he flunks out. Ralphie told him what's Tony supposed to do go to Rutgers and break some guys knees because he won't read a book. Jackie Jr attitude can't be completely blamed on Ralph his uncle Richie shares the blame as well by including him in the business.
It's tragic how Livia (who probably had a parent like her) passed on her inability to be happy to Tony, who passes it on to AJ. Was it actual genes predisposed to this or was this all triggered by being in the life of the Mob? Either way it creates tragic characters we sympathize with because life is rough.
Homer: "You mean the mob only did me a favor to get something in return? Oh, Fat Tony! I will say good day to you, sir." Fat Tony (looking abashed): "Okay. I will go." (Steps out into alley, then does a double-take) "Hey, wait a minute." Don't know why, just thought I'd throw that in here...
@@jeambeam3173 people who become narcissistic jerks as adults aren’t necessarily the victims of abuse as children. Similarly, some kids go through horrendous abuse and overcome it to be loving and kind adults.
I disagree with Butchie. He acted a whole ass in the hospital for sure, but he’s one of the most believable characters in the show to me. They both new Tony was justified by the rules to go after coco. I’m sure Butch had heard by that point. Tony would not have been justified hitting anyone else, and both men knew it, but knew he may have been mad enough to do it anyway. I thought butchie was smart. And when push came to shove, he was anything but immature.
Just finished watching Season 3 again. And I totally think Gloria Trillo not only belongs on this list, but should be in the Top 5. I mean, she's quite literally the younger incarnation of Tony's mom. But perhaps even more annoying and manipulative and cunn(t)ing.
Livia raised two productive members of society despite her gangster, womanizing husband getting himself killed. Gloria was more like Tony’s dad. Gloria could never achieve an orgasm in the throes of carving roast beef in the kitchen. If you say another thing about Livia, I’ll sew your ass to a hole in the ground, understand?
I didn’t like Butch simply because he kinda just appeared out of nowhere and already in high command of the NY family. But I despised Livia. Literally such a emotionally unhealthy person. Im so happy that Carm called everyone out at her funeral and said it how it was and brought up the fact that Livia really was just to the core, a terrible person.
@Shane Gallagher right, I understand that. But if they were planning on him making him such a vital character by season 6, you would think he would get a little more screen time or at the least, a proper debut.
10: Jackie Jr clearly had a life of being a civilian, but chooses not to, since the death of his father and the disappearance of his uncle, Ritchie. In season 3, Jackie Jr became more arrogant, prideful and indulged in his urges. And thanks to Ralphie, Jackie gotten himself into a situation that put him on Death’s doorstep. Kinda realistic when it comes to the son of a mob boss trying to follow his late father’s footsteps in the worst way possible. 9. Just boring and uninteresting. Enough said. 8. Mikey Palmice was ok. Half the time, he was a shit-grinning mook with fuck-face-itous, but other times, he was an absolute yesman for Uncle Junior. 7. Feech was a very interesting, old mobster. Yeah, he had short screen time, but was quite an engaging character. And yes, he showed signs of not obeying Tony’s rules and causing trouble out of ridiculous reasons, like Ritchie Aprile did. As for the screen time, David Chase originally wanted Feech to be in the show longer, like with Phil. However, Robert Loggia had trouble remembering his lines, due to his struggling memory. Because of this, Feech was written to be sent back to prison again. 6. Don Hauser was disgusting enough for the audience to hate him. Both with the relatable issues of paedophilia and self-harm are a great way to have the audience to react with the characters. 5. Butchy was kinda underwritten, not as interesting as Phil or Johnny Sack and he’s an irritable prick. 4. I always hated AJ. Absolute ungrateful little turd who didn’t wanna better himself before he became suicidal. He barely even developed throughout the series. 3. Ralphie was a real sociopath who indulges in such violent actions, never cared for anyone, except for his own, until his son, Justin, got critically injured. Since then, there was a small chance of redemption through Ralphie, but when he killed Pie-O-My, that was the last straw. I personally enjoy watching Ralphie, since he was fun to watch, whether it was him being a maniac or being a wise-ass. 2. I never liked Janice for being a massive, two-faced liar. Always pretends that she’s a better person, yet we never see that. I personally wished she died instead of Bobby. Janice is just really unlikeable. 1. As much as I hate her, Livia was very interesting for a few reasons. - Her passive-aggressive behaviour and mood swings came from growing up in the Great Depression. - Her awful treatment of her children, Tony and Janice, are the reason why they became who they grow up to be. - She planned to have her own son whacked when she found out that Tony’s seeing Dr. Melfi. - Always took advantage of people and manipulated them, such as Artie, as well as sharing her pessimistic views of the world with AJ. The actress who played Livia very well to hate the character. Rest in piece Nancy Marchand.

He would had shot him down anyway.
"Hi Jack, Bye Jack" and "were you this stupid when i married you" were my two favorite Grab bag Palmice lines.
@@SiccDeville I think it was "Hijack, Bye Jack" since it was over hijacking trucks.
Amen
For me, Noah is always going to be the worst Sopranos character.
I wanted one scene where he gets his ass whooped
Why
AJ is up there as well as meadow
I too couldn't stand that smug, self-centered snob.
@Shaun Garcia He is one. The difference is that he's educated and comes from money so he has a broader toolkit than murder and intimidation.
Noah's high dress socks with sandals automatically should have made him #1
I’m honestly really surprised Georgie didn’t flip after all the abuse he went through with no promotions. The dude at the very least knew where Emil’s body is buried and probably more
I always thought Georgie was a character who was trustworthy and loyal enough to hang around with the guys but too dumb to actually be in the mob. I'm pretty sure he's considered as an "associate".
The “one” we all wished happened was a tearing apart off the guy who attacked Melfi.
Noah thinking he could stand a chance against tony in a fight was hilarious
Charcoal briquette.. titsule.. mullinion..
Tony with the encyclopedia of italian slang insults😂
The fade to black in the finale was Jamal Ginsburg finally punching Tony's lights out.
@@hemanthnair1290 the Hasidic homeboy😄
That's something that people who have never been in fights before say 😂 "Lucky I didn't knock him out" lmao
I found the Noah character even more despicable than the many psychopaths in the series. He really annoyed me.
Same here, I despised him from his first scene. 🤮
Yeah, I agree. Noah was so fucking obnoxious. Every sentence that character spoke rubbed me completely the wrong way and I can't even really put my finger on why.
Noah can’t be considered black. For sure.
Jamal Ginsberg was the most unlikable character in the show
You are so stupid. Tony, chrissy and paulie murdered innocent people.
Meadow should be in a list of the most unlikeable characters
🤡
"Worst." You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. Unlikeable, tragic, and pathetic are the words you're looking for. Using the word worst to describe a character in a show implies that they are poorly written, or bad for the show in some other way.
🤓🤓
Mikey Palmice is probably one of the most liked characters actually, easily my top 3 favorite mobsters of the show and the fact he was only in one season was a travesty, Chase Agrees. This is a total miss for this topic.
I couldn't agree more. He was actually my favorite character on the show and accomplished that in only one season.
Mikey never graduated "Slip and Fall School".
Mikey was comedy relief
Mikey had fuckfaceitis
Mikey and Junior was a great pair.
sad to hear Mikey had to give up that nice suit. yeah? he got to attached to it.
Mikey was my favorite character. He wouldn't let the life ( or even Tony) get him down. JR Hung around with worse characters than Tony but Mikey appeared more normal ( less psychotic) than Tony's whole crew.
Yap mikey was my favourite character as well. Had a buddy in the army who looked just like him .
And why didn't Tony face any repercussions for doing that to mikey?
They made such a big deal about him being made and Chris can't touch him AND Ralph later, but Tony literally staple gunned and beat the s*** out of Mikey and not a peep.
Probably because JR. Was his uncle. Micky complains to JR and JR let it go?
Ralphie was in my opinion the greatest villain of the series, he shouldn’t be on the list. He’s an insanely entertaining character
He doesn't mean they're the worst characters but that they're personalities were the worst.not that they weren't interesting or entertaining. Some of them were the best at being the worst.
So true
@@lochofmceo exactly. All the are characters are great because the writers did a great job writing them.

Mustang Sally is at least an honorable mention, despite only being in one episode.

I kind of liked her up until she stole Svetlana's leg. Then I just wanted to see her whacked.
Thats a funny way to spell Livia
But her and Tony's antagonistic chemistry was almost always hilarious.
The best character in the series was the Sopranos Refrigerator. That Refrigerator was in more scenes than Tony.

Also, when she whacks Richie, she gets a lot of redemption.
I agree. I loved watching how sick she was, she’s completely void of shame and it’s so entertaining. She’s written and acted so beautifully.

It`s spelled Cappocollo, these dopes pronounce it gabagool
Aj had Tony's mental health issues with a whole lot more self awareness and understanding of the real world. That's why he was affected more than Tony by his issues.

@@rickrolledtruth5834 I am a die hard fan and I don't remember this scene either. Part of that may be, however, because as the show refined itself and got better over the years, it made the earlier seasons hard to watch. Those little errors and dialog issues were more polished as time wore on. So I didn't tend to watch season 1 and 2 as often.

Vito's waddle was one of the most underdeveloped characters in the entire series, they really should've done more with him.

I kinda missed Finn. He left kinda abruptly and he was the only one of Meadow’s BFs I actually found likable.
It's tragic how Livia (who probably had a parent like her) passed on her inability to be happy to Tony, who passes it on to AJ. Was it actual genes predisposed to this or was this all triggered by being in the life of the Mob? Either way it creates tragic characters we sympathize with because life is rough.

Her character was really weirdly inconsistent. Women like that wouldnt be scared to the point of shaking of a man pointing a gun at them.
@Happy Thoughts im thinking more of the scene with patsy parisi and the test drive
Gloria, what a beautiful woman!
Livia raised two productive members of society despite her gangster, womanizing husband getting himself killed. Gloria was more like Tony’s dad. Mikey was one of my favorite characters. I wish he would lived for a few more seasons
