  • Amazing modern railway construction! CSX maintenance of way machinery completely replacing the street running railroad in the middle of town. Very close video from all the way around the construction zone in LaGrange, Kentucky. The first 2 trains over the brand new track is included in their entirety.     Yo Jaw Tooth!, I have a black Gibson tee-shirt that matches that hat you're wearin' there son...right on brother! My main guitar is the one I built in high school in 1983. I have another one I'm working on that I built in 1997 after a player I really admire signed it for me...God rest his soul.     It wasn't until Ma Spencer heard the glass breaking in the front window of her Beauty Salon did she realize that CSX had forgotten to secure the rails out front and yes indeed the engine was on it's way in.

      @@JawTooth if you're ever in Arizona there's a railroad museum in Chandler, AZ. Nothing huge but something you may be interested in if you're in the area.

      I used to travel between New Jersey and California on my Harley some years back, and I would take loop between Seligman and Kingman just to get away from the interstate. That was a nice ride, except the time that a coyote almost took me out.

    Now that's some REAL manpower @ 16:25, Just don't piss him off, He will get you with that sledgehammer! LOL! I was greatly entertained by the machine @ 23:16. I could see it pulling up the track while it was settling in the gravel. I have NEVER seen one of those! I read the description, But it didn't say what that is. The first train that came through was happy to be the first one that got to break the new tracks in! Ha! Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed!

    Hey JT , I got ran off by maintenance workers on the BNSF today . The butthead ruined my Amtrack vid. My front wheels were in compliance but my back wheels weren't, by about 12" . It was not an issue of clearance just attitude. He stood in front of my camera until Amtrack had rolled by then when it quieted down he started to call the law . I got there about 2 min. before Amtrack rolled through and that was really all I was there for and left while his majestic Magnificence was dialing . In nearly 50 yrs of train chasing I have only ever been ran off once before . That time I did have it coming . Lesson learned , nearly 40 years ago. Today was just splitting hairs . Oh well .
    What is the longest train you have ever videoed ? I got stuck on the wrong side of crossing yesterday as a 272 car double stack train ground to a halt a had the crossing blocked for nearly a hour. The road goes back to a boat ramp on the Mississippi and to a large industry called CryoTech . Two very lengthy westbound double stacks went by while the one had the crossing blocked. I estimate the train was between 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 miles long with 4 6 axel units up front , 2 in the middle and 2 on the rear . Almost 95% of the deep well cars were double stacked and there were just a few standard piggybacks. Biggest dang train I have ever seen !
    I have been having trouble uploading to youtube . It is frustrating for an old cod who doesn't know anything about computers! Also my zoom sucks ! Anytime it is engaged I have horrible vibrations on the vid. . Train horns , wind , for crying out loud even engine exhaust causes aberrations! DRIVES ME CRAZY!

      @@Thunderbolt1996Productions Yep ! My cousin called me a terrorist for simply doing my due diligence , " know your enemy " . He had worked for a company called Aramco . The Arab , American Oil Co., and I had audacity to ask if there was any inside information that would aid me in redirecting a very large pipeline that was to cross the Miss. River just upstream from me . They just wanted to bury it at the same depth as they had been doing. I knew , unlike the many protesters , that stopping the project was a futile endeavor. But I also knew that there had been a coal train derailment at that exact location recently and some of the railcars had buried themselves to that depth. If that had happened after the pipeline was on place it would have been catastrophic! My good cousin declared me a terrorist and slammed me on his old landline phone and still won't talk to me !
      Instead of joining the protesters, I made another series of phone calls to those I thought would care . I had no way of knowing whether my calls to the IDNR IA. , IDNR ILL., IDNR MO., every water dept for every city downstream from the pipeline river crossing , the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers had any effect . I laid out my idea of a horizontal bore large enough to house the pipeline and allow for constant inspection. This was a poker bluff. I knew this would never happen but what did occur was a much smaller horizontal bore that was cased and buried deep enough to allay any fears of tens of thousands of gallons of crude spilling into the river every minute of a catastrophic break. Sometimes the TERRORISTS WIN!!!!!!!!

    My favorite is the track tamper ... grab the rail, lift the rail, then tamp the rail. Cool machine. A close second is the back-hoe. I love back-hoe action. Don't tell anyone but this 60 year old plus immature man may go out and buy some Tonkas and start digging in the wifes flower garden. May not survive that though ... it would be worse than COVID for me :) Stay safe and healthy my RR friends.

      I filmed an all red tamper on a new siding installation in Ohio on the I&O. I watched it until it broke down. Lol. You need a big pile of sand in your back yard like we have. lol

      There's a guy here on you tube that prepped his wife's garden with R.C. equipped scale construction equipment. He may have used a back hoe, I can't recall. Search R.C. garden equipment. That might bring it up.

    Late to comment because it me two days to watch the video.
    The trains run smooth and no rocking of the cars.However the spot where the two rails connect needs some help.
    I found the auto transport car missing the siding was an unusual and interesting catch.I wonder how it all looks now.Surely they repaved the street.Thanks for putting this together.

    Don’t see why they wouldn’t use concrete ties for this? You would think it would save a lot of maintenance In the long run being under the street

      Concrete ties would crack and crumble over time. Wood ties provide flexibility so the ties can flex and trains go over.

      What about a reinforced concrete slab instead of sleepers, with heavy duty rubber mats/cushions either side of each rail to make maintanance easier?

    CSX certainly have all the right gear for this operation given all the heavy plant has CSX branding. The John Deere tractor has good dexterity. I wondered if the tractor would have been better with railroad truck axles given the way it climbed over those rails. Wouldn't want to be a retailer or barrista in that neighborhood at the height of operation.😎👌👍

    I always enjoy watching the live cameras of La Grange. Being an employee of Toyota, I recognize the truck frames on some of the trains are for the recalls on a few truck models. Most likely made at the Georgetown plant.

    JT, did you know that that the section of state rt 32 from I-275 going east to the now closed Thorton's gas station near Old State Rt 74 was built on an old railroad easement? The old tracks came up what is now Harrison Ave. (off Mt. Carmel -Tobasco Rd) crossed the creek by Rust Lane and directly into the intersection of I-275 and 32. There are remnants of the track bed still visible in some places. The land parcel shapes confirm this.

    Jaw Tooth, Lots of machinery and manual labor..
    Here in Southern California it's all automated machinery.. very little hand work..
    And all the lines UP, BNSF and Metolink has gone to concrete ties.. the rails are held in place with heavy duty clips .. no wooden ties..
    And I'm also a ham .. 73's Wayne

    Love the videos, as a novice to the rail scene & construction it would be great and extremely helpful if you would indicate or explain in detail the equipment & material. For example as the dump truck was pouring the gravel/stone, indicate the type of stone or required for rail road or as dictated by whomever. Ties are steel vs. wooden what are typical, if one is better or preferred or specific to the project...just a suggestion. Thanks for sharing the videos.

    Enjoyed the video JT. I like to count the cars on the train. With the panning back and forth, it made that a little more difficult. Just wonder if those carriers might be going to the Toyota distribution center at Commerce, Ga.(the kitty's pal)

    That mis-aligned joint at the end (southbound auto racks) is going to drive the townsfolk crazy. needs an adjustment,

      I believe it is a step joint. The new rail is larger. Once they go back and weld the rail it will be smooth riding.

    I love the trains. But there would be no trains if there were no tracks. And there would be tracks crews to lay them. So I also like watching the track maintenance crews and equipment at work 🙃.

    Not much action on CSX in February. I ended up staying in Louisville and watching the NS trains. Have you been to High Bridge of Kentucky? I got some good action there with the drone.

    WOW! Any idea why they didn't use concrete sleepers? You certainly wouldn't want me in charge because, I've seen the disasters I've engineered...LOL I know diddly about this type of construction.
