A friend had the idea to put a back on an orphan block and sew it on the front of one of the small school bags we make and fill with school supplies to send to people who have experienced disasters. My stash of orphan blocks is almost gone, and I hope the children enjoy their fancy pockets!
This is adorable! I was just thinking about what to do with my orphan crumb blocks, and BINGO...there you were with a new tutorial. Your method for connecting the ends of the binding (with the little pocket) is absolute genius and the easiest I have ever seen. So many people make it more complicated than is necessary. I saw you do it on your Oversize Hot Pad tutorial and it was a "light bulb" moment for me! I tell all of my sewing friends to give it a try. Thanks for giving me a gift project for my church ladies!!!
I make orphan quilt blocks too. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one!!😂 Truthfully I have 2 large drawers full of them, at last count about 145. I know it’s crazy. I will definitely get out a couple today and make these cute potholder/trivets. Thanks for the idea.
That turned out so pretty. My square potholders get lumpy at the corners; this will be perfect. If I make 1,000 of them maybe I’ll make a dent in my stash! 😂
Thanks for this - a really clear explanation. I like your method of binding. I think I've seen large quilts bound this way, very neat. Thanks for sharing ❤
Love the videos! I use a lot of blue Jean material recycled , Great for pot holders and any hot pads! Makes good thickness! Thanks so much! I would love to buy several of your patterns but don't want to put my information on internet! If you do snail mail I could! Could pay with money order!
Thank you for the binding tips. I am commenting about the use of insulbright, which I refuse to use. I consider it a fire hazard, as you never know if it may end up used in the microwave.
Insul-Bright is a great product but it does dull needles and rotary cutters very quickly. I'm trying to keep a separate needle and rotary cutter just for working with this product.
I love this! Quick question: do you need to quilt it? Could I just sew the edges to hold all the layers in place before I add the binding? I think the pattern looks really pretty before the straight lines across, so I would love to leave it like that.
So, I love this concept so much... but every time I do it, I find myself trimming it into straight sides and end up with a square..and pretty soon it isn't scrappy-it's just a square... for some reason the trimming part is difficult for me! lol...help!
Your explanation about why to overhang the ends of your binding when joining was spot on😅 I well remember having those mismatched edges and my brain had to do somersaults to work it out. Also, showing which diagonal to sew on was helpful. Hopefully this will help many many learners to avoid the weird angles and crooked joins that you can get while trying to work it out ❤ Thank you for another great tutorial😍
I just got your shirt and words printed on it are “cut pin sew” rather than your channel name “pin cut sew”. I’m not complaining, just noticing 😀 Also, I love you and your videos! ❤
I do not sell shirts! Can you tell me more about this? Where it was advertised and where it came from? Scammers are everywhere, I’d like to deal with it if I can!
@@SammieAnne-Angus I have shipped all book orders, so I'm sure it's on it's way very soon! Obviously, if it doesn't arrive, shoot me a message on Etsy. However, the shirt wasn't from my shop. Etsy can be misleading because when you type in a shop name, it comes up with other related item results too, so that's probably what happened there.

great tutorial !! loved watching the binding..I know how to do this as well..I also saw another video on using a fat quarter to make 3 yard binding. ☺

What a great idea 🫶🏻
Ideas for orphan blocks would be great!

How cute!!! I have a ton of Christmas fabric I can use for this project.

This might be a silly question, should we wash the batting and insulbrite before sewing with it? 😅
Nah, I never do

I absolutely love these! Thanks Nikki!
Does your little iron get hot enough to flatten your seams?
Yes it does 🙌🏻

Harvesting ❤, made me lol, I’ll be chuckling every time I cut up my retired clothes.
OOOHHH! The binding has to be fabric cut on the bias. Duh, no wonder my binding looks weird. Thank you!
I also have orphan blocks! Thanks for the tutorial!

I wish I could do this. After many attempts in the past, binding (square or circle) is not for me. It never is pretty for me.
I love this! Quick question: do you need to quilt it? Could I just sew the edges to hold all the layers in place before I add the binding? I think the pattern looks really pretty before the straight lines across, so I would love to leave it like that.
Yes, you totally could do it without the quilting 👍🏻
These are super cute but the bias binding is tricky! Will need some more practice.
Awesome video..thanks❤
Very cute. Great idea for gifts 😁
I can't believe how early I was to see this latest project. So fun and cute. I'm obsessed with making those quit as you go type projects.
Cuttering? 😂
🤪
Love these

Hmmm, if you find you’ve made a corner and things are getting square, lop the corner off so you create another straight edge to work with.
Cute and so practical. YAY NIKKI. 🎶💐💖🫂

Yes I agree, I've also had mismatched ends too! That's another great tip, thanks 😊
Thank you ❤
Question, when using insulbrite which side does the batting go on, I always get confused with insulbrite.
It really doesn’t matter, as far as I’ve been able to tell.
So cute!!
Very cute and doable...Mothers Day❤❤
What is your design wall made of?
It’s felt sound proofing squares from Amazon 😁
Thank you for the tutorial. I sewed a couple of these with just some fabric from my stash to put in with a bridal shower gift.
I'm really inspired to make some of these - your tutorial was so good and nice and free and easy🎉
Cute!

@@PinCutSew I got the shirt from the shop Pin Cut Sew Studio on Etsy. I got your improv house book also. The book hasn’t arrived yet.
