I’m definitely getting a second party thumb grip, shutter button and rubber grip attachment. Also can’t wait to use the Classic Negative film simulation.
Lovely camera. I also recommend getting the Meike 35mm f1.7 lens. At around $70, it’s a nice addition for great bokeh; you have to select the “Use without lens” setting and focus manually (but with focus peaking it is quite simple).

Good review, but I disagree with your "better no viewfinder" comment. I am hoping that they will give it a larger EVF in the next model even of it makes the camera a little bit larger. It just makes a big difference.
Thank you, that is a matter of opinion of course. I don't think that Fujifilm would be willing to enlarge the camera, if so, I would much prefer using that space for IBIS rather than larger EVF.
My experiences are quite dated already, but maybe i can relate to this small EVF. First i got the m4/3 Panasonic GM1 and later the GM5 (direct successor). Many reviewers mentioned that the small EVF was better then nothing, and maybe, sure, i can see the point. It's also one of those easy safe things to say for general masses. In practice, i found that the EVF was nice to have, but experience left feeling lackluster. The view was just so small, couldn't be any smaller. And eventually, it started to become pointless because the main LCD screen was that much better anyways. So, i sold the camera because the EVF just didn't feel fulfilling in practice, and they also changed the screen ratio to smaller size because of the EVF so there it goes. The small EVF was good on direct sunlight (but even then, you had to cover the sides with your hand / fingers or with a hat.). The EVF could give better stability, but when you don't want to look through the EVF all that much, then... I still use my happy orange GM1 to this date, with the great big LCD and don't miss the EVF one bit. I rather use better EVF on bigger cameras.

You shouldn’t try to be happy with the G9. It’s fine if you aren’t totally into it. It’s a great camera, I had for over a year when it came out, but I never really liked its quality for stills. In my opinion Fuji or APS-C sensors are superior to MFT and the G9 is not a small camera at all, so getting a Fuji for photography is a good option. If you don’t enjoy shooting with the G9, don’t do just because others say it’s good. I think MFT just doesn’t cut it anymore.
I just want the next version of this to use the newer battery type. I wanted to buy one, but I hate the idea of maintaining two different kinds of battery.
Very impressive camera. If it came out alongside the X100V, it would be very difficult to pick between the two. I don't use my X100V for video but I've taken a few clips and the it becomes quite warm fairly quickly. I wonder what changes allowed increasing the record limit from 15min to 30min.
Oh wise Hybrid Shooter, please answer this question: Should I dump my G9 in the gutter and get this camera instead? Its a serious question. I am bothered by the fact that my G9 pictures look like I took them with an iPhone 8.
The Lumix combo is also brighter and obviously has IBIS. I can't see much difference between my X-T20 + xf27 and the Lumix combo apart from minor DoF difference (but I no longer have a GX9 for comparison).
@@TheHybridShooter significantly better in what way? One would have to pixel peep pretty hard to see a difference in detail. Less noise at base ISO could be advantageous, but is it significant?

New users don't care and current users already know. The video clearly isn't a comparison with previous models. Highlighting the differences between the X-E4, X-E3, X-E2 and X-E1 is a video in itself. Better to review the X-E4 as it is and what is does, not what it isn't or what it could have been. Compare it to current models not old ones.
@@fredbloggs545 to my knowledge it's the only Fujifilm camera with no raised grip (front or back) which seems significant to me. Even just to mention that it's a non-issue.
@@MrJed_s Grips, thumb rests etc., can be added. You can literally right now buy a cheap stick on a grip for it if you are that bothered. But if you don't like the built-in grip on a camera, you can't remove it and are stuck with it! Add what you like to the X-E4, or don't if you don't want to. That's an *advantage* not a disadvantage.
I don't necessarily agree with IBIS necessitating a larger body. A 3 axis IBIS system like that of the GR III could easily fit and can open up more creative use of shutter speed and allow for panning shots while doing street photography.
IBIS definitely requires larger body, that is not a matter of agreement. GR III can only have IBIS with that body size because it uses fixed lens and leaf shutter. Interchangeable camera require completely different components, so GR III reference is not relevant.

I don't know why people like the overpriced X100 so much. I found it very limiting and at f2.0 it was soft. I returned mine to the shop. The XE-4 sounds like a much better option for X100 customers. Put an f1.8 or lower on it and get sharp results at f2.0 or stick any lens on it you want why limit yourself to the one chosen by Fuji.
It isn’t really about the capabilities, it is mostly about getting as close as possible to getting an experience of using a vintage rangefinder camera. It is not a camera that you buy just for the performance.
If they made it more steel-like, even more minimalistic with proper sensor or even GFX sensor whit not much bigger or at least same design body style... i will bought it!
@@TheHybridShooter well they should made camera to compete with Laica... big sensor in minimalistic body :) Lots of ppls will bought it. Its easy to predict just looking at how good 100v sells :P
I disagree, it is not that simple. Leica style cameras would be extremely hard to sell outside of their established hipster customer base. A7 type bodies are much better choice for majority of users. Fuji should keep doing what they are doing.
@@TheHybridShooter they bassically copycat Laica and other manufacturers... for example X-H1 layout and body was bassicaly identical to some old camera (do your research witch Minolta). Fuji in fact notorous follow others... but new GFX100 and GFX100s shows that they try to sand off. And i like this way. But now they need to make own styling... not based on others. And this is hard. Fuji copy Minoltas, Leica and even canon. Look how old Konica Autoreflex look ;)
I absolutely disagree, as I wrote, they should keep doing what they are doing. Who cares, they make vintage style cameras that look... like vintage cameras. How should they differentiate? Make a round camera? It is like with the original iPhone... every smartphone will look the original iPhone to certain extent. You can't invent the wheel twice. In fact, Fuji is the only digital camera manufacturer with original concepts such as X-Pro 3, X100V with hybrid viewfinder or X-T series with dedicated exposure dials. X100S and X-S10 with PASM dial are definitely the "least Fujifilm" cameras in their line-up. Those look like any other mirrorless camera. That is definitely a move away from their signature styling.
I think it's a walk around daylight camera that most people will set at either 400 or 800 iso and will be shooting at 1/250 of a second. The world managed to produce amazing pics for decades without it. (Just pick up a National Geographic from the 60's) If you shoot video. Pick up a gimbal. And I think a wrist strap is a no brainer...
@@sclogse1 I have a Ronin SC gimbal, and a G9. The advantage to this is that it’s pocketable. I want a second camera with good image quality for photos (don’t need IBIS really for photos) and the 4K video, weather sealed mainly for travel . The point is with a small camera is you don’t have to take bulky equipment. You need IBIS for video for travel situations and Vlogs. Fuji need to include IBIS and then this would be perfect. As it is I will not consider. He’s having to stabilise the video in post here. Shame as I really like the Fuji film simulation.

@@MrJed_s
Grips, thumb rests etc., can be added. You can literally right now buy a cheap stick on a grip for it if you are that bothered. But if you don't like the built-in grip on a camera, you can't remove it and are stuck with it!
Add what you like to the X-E4, or don't if you don't want to. That's an *advantage* not a disadvantage.
@@MrJed_s You have obviously noticed that there is no grip, so I don't see what is the issue here...
hello my friends! does it have built in time lapse mode?
Yes, it does.
nice review.. thanks
That makes sense. I assumed the GR III was able to do it because it used 3 axis instead of 5 axis stabilization.
should I get xe4 or xt3 for hybrid shooting?
Depends on your preferences.
What fuji lenses are somewhat parfocal ? 16-80 is a no go.
Is it not a concern not to have image stabilization?
You have to keep it mind if you are used to having having stabilization, but it is definitely a useful camera even without IBIS.
In our days what sense to buy small camera, if you have any smartphone?
Many reasons - much superior image quality, controls, lenses, creative options and so on...
@@TheHybridShooter Much more people are looking photos on their gudgets...and there is no difference on mobile display by what camera photos are made.
The second..most people on the second day forgetting about photos they made yesterday.
So again ...in modern times what sense in camera as a separate gadget?
I already answered. If you can't appreciate advantages of proper camera and your photos are not valuable, keep using your smartphone...nobody is forcing you to buy a dedicate camera.
@Coo Koo I'm using Fujifilm old XT20 with pair of lens
@@TheHybridShooter I'm using both cameras - smartphone and Fujifilm camera.
But everyday using Fujifilm camera xt 20 goes less and less.
Mobile technology goes further and further leaving no chances for old cameras

Man, i love fujifilm cameras. :)
So do I.
It’s just not for you in that case. X100V is a niche came for those who can appreciate it’s strengths.
@@TheHybridShooter It's definitely not for me. I sent mine back. But what can it actually do that the XE-4 cannot?
It isn’t really about the capabilities, it is mostly about getting as close as possible to getting an experience of using a vintage rangefinder camera. It is not a camera that you buy just for the performance.
@@TheHybridShooter
I see. Fair enough. Thanks
Love your videos BTW. Very detailed and informative.
👍
I love it.
If they made it more steel-like, even more minimalistic with proper sensor or even GFX sensor whit not much bigger or at least same design body style... i will bought it!
You will have to contact Fuji about that, but I don't think that they make custom cameras for individual customers.
Fuji still haven’t learned to make a diopter that can’t be easily knocked out of position.
4:16 I can tell you workout....Maybe I'm wrong 😅
It lost me on no IBIS.
It's just not for you in that case...
@wakeywarrior
IBIS does not fit into the X-E and X100 lines.
This style of camera isn't meant for shooting that requires IBIS.
Optional grip!
How is that at $850 built quality is a surprise ? Shouldn't it be obvious at this price point for basically a point and shoot ?
No, it is not point and shoot camera. The build quality is better than with other sub $1000 cameras, so it is a positive surprise... there is not much more to explain there.
Please try to use the "the" grammatic article before nouns. It drives me crazy that you left it out all the time. Otherwise your English is great.
Thank you, but I don’t care about the articles.
Fuji is trying to remake the a6400
Not really, there are some similarities, but the overall user experience is very different.
@@TheHybridShooter which one do you genuinely recommend?
Depends on the preferences. I generally recommend both.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks mate. I think it all comes down to the battery life
I don't, that is similar on both.
