Great review of the H2/grip (boost). Agree with your strengths and improvements that Fuji could address. Your Fuji glass recommendations are spot on. Viltrox 13mm on the H2 is an instant go to for environmental work. We enjoy the H2's capabilities for stills and video client work, powerful options to deliver beyond client expectations.
I don't shoot video but I watch all of your videos regardless. I agree with your review wholeheartedly. I have the XH2s and most of what you say can be applied. I also have the X-T5 and was debating between this and the XH2 but since I already had the XH2s, I wanted a different body style for street photography. Regarding the XH2s, I was skeptical about the resolution as well as the form factor (PASM). However, both my X-T5 and XH2s are everything I need. As you also mentioned, I'm noticing that the Lightroom files are significantly better. Also, autofocus has improved greatly with all the firmware updates and I use my XH2s for wildlife. You just have to know how to set up the tracking appropriately. Fujifilm has created incredible products in the last decade and fit my style of shooting. I'm sorry video isn't up to your standards yet, but perhaps it's on the horizon. The only thing I can complain about is lens selection. I am glad that Viltrox and Sigma are starting to offer us some excellent options. Thanks again!
I love two design details, one it's the integrated straps and other is the amount of space for the right hand in the rear right side of the camera. People with big hands sometimes push buttons when only holding other cameras because the lack of space (Sony a6000 line).
A very good review. I owe the X-H2 for 10 months, and the review matches my experience with it. For the price, you get a very capable camera, with very good image quality. One of the few things I find annoying is the on-off switch, that is quite hard to move. Overall, I am very happy with this camera.

I want to compare it to to the GFX50Sii to see how much better the GFX is ? There are times for the XH2 shoots and or the GFX50Sii. I've been on a Medium Format "learning curve" as the expectations cannot be similar (AF, Burst, Render Times) to FF or APSC. I will be interested to hearing Thursday's anticipated announcement on the GFX100Sii. That may satisfy my long-term expectations. I will retain Xmount, as I'm pleased for the most part. Only been with FUJIFILM since Oct. '23, from SONY A7RIV and A7Siii. I'm enjoying shooting again. Great videos. Keep 'em rolling.

I think fuji is doing the same mistake panasonic was doing for many many years. So many customers almost shout to fuji to improve the AF in video mode...as you said, there is no excuses anymore. I am thinking to sell my Fuji system to get into the Sony System. There will be many things I will miss because the xh2s has many good things to give but AF and IBIS for video is still not there and I waited a long time for firmware updates. Thanks for your review
Gfx100ii gained af tracking in video finally. Maybe theyll import that along and improve general af speed. But truth be told , its more so fuji glass' design that holds them back , their focusing system uses an older multi part principle. The icing on the cake is fuji kind of not really accepting themselves as a video camera ( as seen in the jumpy focus change in most review )
If you haven't already, make sure to set up the AF-C custom settings on the X-H2/X-H2S. There are 5 specific profiles and a sixth custom (all can be edited). The manual isn't particularly helpful on how to quickly change between them, I'm still working this out... would be nice if it prompted you when switching to AF-C...
One major reason I'm thinking of buying X-H2 over X-T5 is the battery grip. I need the camera to run all day and I need to shoot in portrait mode a lot. The XT-5 would be perfect as is... but Fuji just decided I can't have a battery grip for it. Very anti-consumer imho.
Interesting camera, I personally don't like ISO WB button placement, I'd preferred the modern Lumix 3 top buttons layout. It lacks of the raw downscale option like on Sony R7rV, useful option on hi res cameras today. Having possibility to downscale full res 40Mp to 26Mp and 16Mp w'd be very useful.
Great review. As purely a stills photographer, I'll be leaning more towards the X-T5, but a lot of what was said here applies to that camera in the stills department. This review basically solidifies my choice for a future upgrade (coming from X-T4).
I'm a pure stills photog too, but prefer the X-H2 over the X-T5. I found that the dials on top don't really add much, as they'll largely be in 'C' mode anyway. Not all intermediate values are available on the dial itself so you'll end up having aperture on the lens, and shutter and ISO on the command wheels. The X-H2's custom modes on a dial are excellent though, I can switch between pre-shot with bird subject detection to (tripod) landscape settings to portrait settings with one click off the PASM-wheel. I also found the X-H2's deeper grip to be much more ergonomic, especially with heavy lenses. I don't have big hands, but the X-T5 is just too flat. There's barely anything to hold on to. If you have the chance, go to a camera store and hold/test them both to see which feels best. Just my €0.02 - whichever you get, enjoy it!
Problem with the XT series and the X pro series, is the old dials. If you really use the camera, those dials fail. I have had to return two for major services now, with grit in the dials making them inoperable. Have shifted the XH2 and very happy even if it is pretty heavy for an APSc body
@@mcelliot Good argument. I usually leave my camera in “aperture priority”, so the shutter speed dial rarely changes from A. I can relate with my ISO dial occasionally sticking and affecting the drive mode selector underneath, but it’s fine most of the time.
@@unusedTV Thanks for the advice! I've handled both in stores previously, and I do agree that the X-H2 feels better in hand. But the X-T5 is still an upgrade from the 4 in terms of grip. I also get the 2-axis tilting screen, which I much prefer over the flip screen (though I've managed for 3.5 years on the X-T4).

Kind of. ;) - I know that a "clicky" shutter button might cause a tiny bit more unwanted shake - it's the same with firearms. But still I would prefer a "feelable breaking point". Great review. Completely agree with your points. Fuji’s systems are top tier but the lack of touch tracking and customization of AF zones is frustrating. C’mon Fujifilm, let’s get this done. You’re already bringing in waveforms. Add touch tracking.
What really frustrates me about the X-H2, is the time it takes to go into Play (to show the image). For unknown reasons, it is dependant on what lens, what focal lenght you put zoom at (if it is a zoom lens) and importantly where focus is at. E.g. if you have the 16-80mm, try setting it at 80mm and minimum focus distance. Then press play. The time elapsed before you see an image on screen is now about 3.5 seconds. Three point five seconds. That is insane. If you mount a non-comunicating third party lens, it only takes about a half second to go to Play. This is how good the camera theoreticly CAN perform, but sadly it does not. (The performance with the 16-80mm is the worst of the lenses I have in this respect, but all the fuji lenses I have, take longer when at close focus. For no good reason.)
What is it about the way this sensor renders details, compared to the X-Trans 4 (and earlier) sensors, that I cannot put my finger on? There is more detail yet somehow feels... softer?
I’ve recently bought the 16-55 and I’m about to buy this camera. After hearing him say that lens isn’t the best by todays standards, I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are?
Great video. If you have time, could you watch a video called "Is Your Fujifilm XH2s Failing You? Investigating the Auto Focus Issue Caused by Firmware 5.01 Update", I wonder if that's a real problem or not? Supposedly there is a big problem with all Fuji X-Trans V generation cameras - continuous AF. Thanks a lot.
@@TheHybridShooter :) not really - Sigma has RAW out, SONY does not some fujis and SONY APS-c´s have mini HDMI - not a full size ....the list goes on. Bitrates in external recording -recording limmits....... just my critique
@@AVTeknik Yes, really. Bitrates and RAW output have to do with video specs, not I / O, I have talked about those either in this video, or in my original review. Sony APS-C cameras are not in the same category. Just my critique of your critique :)
@TheHybridShooter when you're stuck to a crop sensor body, you can adapt a full frame lens but it will make your kit way heavier. This is how I feel about my tamron 150-500 lens on my x-h2.
This Fujifilm X-H2 does what cropsensor cameras has to do to compete with FF cameras as the same price. This is outspec them at the same price and the X-H2 does this. Fuji AF in video seems to be improving, but Panasonic PDAF is better in the same priced S5II. I dont understand the hate you have towards fully articulated sceens. All Panasonic cameras such as S5, S5II, S5IIx, S1H, GH5, GH5 II, GH6 and GH9 II has it. Fuji X-H and X-S line has it. All Canon cameras has it, only R3 don't. OM Systems OM-5 and OM-1 has it. So it is Canon 40% of the market, Sony with 20%, Fuji with 7%, Pansonic with 5% and Om System with 3% combined are around 70% of the market has this screens.
This is how taste (and usage conditions) vary: I could have killed Fujifilm for their decision to skip the fully articulated screen with the X-T5; I never made friends with the tilting Fuji screens, also dislike you can't close them fully for protecting the screen. I like that many-dials design of the XT-5 (although I never use two of the dials) - but lacking the fully articulated screen drove me to the X-H2. Your experience might and will vary. :)

Investigating the Auto Focus Issue Caused by Firmware 5.01 Update", I wonder if that's a real problem or not? Supposedly there is a big problem with all Fuji X-Trans V generation cameras - continuous AF. Thanks a lot.
I haven't used the X-H2s since it had FW 1.0, and I can only comment on the findings from my own testing, so I can't help you with that, sorry.
good review -... but no mention of I/O is a miss
You can easily find information about that in the specs, there is nothing specifically worth mentioning with regards to that.
I check theese videos to get the user perspective - Im aware that there is a manual :)@@TheHybridShooter
@@AVTeknik Well, it has the same I / O as other cameras in that category, so I don’t have any specific perspective regarding that.
Just my critique of your critique :)
we need a 1.8 zoom lens like the old sigma 18-35!!!
I don't think that we do. Sigma 18-35 was great for it's time, but it wouldn't make much sense nowadays, due to abundance of full frame options.
@TheHybridShooter when you're stuck to a crop sensor body, you can adapt a full frame lens but it will make your kit way heavier. This is how I feel about my tamron 150-500 lens on my x-h2.
if I were buying a hybrid camera now, the best choice would Lumix s5II/x
just bought a kit with a 28-70 on ebay for 1399 because of a pricing mistake! NEW!!!!!
10:20 "Waste of space"? Do they want to land a Spaceship there or cultivate some vegetables?! 😁
No, drive mode dial could have been there.
Or an ISO dial, or both.
I don’t care what percentage of cameras has a rotating screen, I don’t like them because they are not convenient to use if you are behind the camera.
refocusing from one lens to another was horrible ....there is still contrast af
For bird photography, the XH-2S AF is not as good as the a6700’s.
I'm not sure about that, tracking with FW 3.0 is very good on X-H2S.
Yes, for general use, XH-2S is a great camera. But for demanding AF situations, a6700 wins (no false positive AF confirmation like the xh-2s). Cheers

really excellent review
