- Today on Modern Builds I'm doing a floor to ceiling bedroom Reno / Makeover and I'm DIY'ing every step of the way. I kept it limited tools and as accessible as possible. Thanks a ton for watching and if you do any projects inspired by this video I'd love to see; tag me on instagram@ModernBuilds

This bedroom is the second room renovation in my Joshua Tree cabin. I just wrapped up the Shed-to-workshop series and I'll be getting back on the grind renovating more rooms in the house. This episode ended up being longer than an HTGV house flipping show but there were so many projects packed into this space.. thanks for being patient!

MODERN BUILDS
Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further. Хобби
In demo, considering removing carpet after paint.
Your carpet will be a “free” catch for the popcorn scrape, drywall compound, and paint drips.
Smart idea!!
Maybe if he wasn't going for the no baseboard thing..
@@ModernBuilds I like removing the carpet first on concrete too. You can sweep your floor clean, see what you're stepping in and keep your job site clean.
That might get really heavy
Big brain
Maaaan, that crack in the floor is killing me. xDDD How about filling it with epoxy and gold pigment? Kintsugi style… Would go really cool with the yellows.
I think he's probably going to do something like this since he said he has a plan for the cracks! Would be cool if it was another pop of color - a blue or orange would look sick with the yellow.
@@jenniviiv black epoxy for me.
Definitely gold! Question is real gold or gold colored epoxy? XD
@@dharmilshah1647 I want someone to calculate the cost of real gold for those huge cracks. Probably the same as he paid for the house. XD
@@SentinalhMC He can get that gold flakes 😂
Looks nice. It would make my heart warm if the sides of your curtains were hemmed. Sewing machine works pretty much like a band saw. You can do it. So many DIY videos on this website that glue and tape fabric together. Sewing straight lines is so easy.
I'm going to bet on a kintsugi type thing for the cracks in the floor, a la the concrete and gold kintsugi coffee table you did a while back!
I was thinking the same thing - perfect for it.
Holy crap, I've never seen the process for removing popcorn ceilings! That was awesome to see!
It’s messy but WORTH IT! 😁😁
@@ModernBuilds I find your videos very inspiring, keep up the great work!
It's not nearly that easy if the ceiling has been painted.
This came out SO COOL! Love the fun vibe, and to think that you own this little jewel out in the desert....well, you and your family should be proud of what you've accomplished in such a short time. I'm 73 (and live in the AZ desert) and love watching you, Rachel, and Wood Brain. So glad you all know each other and help each other out. So, so entertaining.
I really liked how you showed it all in one video
It bugs me when people post it in different parts throughout multiple weeks!
For real!!?? This ain't HGTV it's youtube. It drives me crazy how all these woodworking videos have been getting longer and longer 10, 15, 20, 30+ minutes!! I've been waiting weeks for him to start dropping these videos. He could have gotten a half dozen videos worth of content. Oh well. I guess I'll just pass on this video. At least I got to see some of it in a consumable size on Instagram.
Well we don't have these type of content here on TVs so I enjoy this one go videos
Sometimes projects take a while and you can’t just ignore your primary source of income
The final result is very nice but I wondered why you covered up an electrical outlet with the pegboard? In my experience, you can never have too many outlets...
Oh yeah, that did my head in too that he was covering a power outlet?! Really looks fantastic tho!
I guess it's covered by the headboard too so it would've been inaccessible anyway
Scrolling the comments to see if I was the only one noticing. Seems insane to me. Though I did learn recently that there are battery lamps, no need for an outlet nearby.
I couldn't wrap head around this either. Most older homes don't have many electrical outlets as it is. It would me nice to be able to plug in a bedside lamp, alarm clock, or a device charger
i recently discovered this channel and ive been binge watching the tiny house and diy renovations. definitely encouraged to do my own DIY home even though it may be expensive! lol Thanks for the video 😊
This was so much fun to watch, from start to finish. Love the pegboard wall (and that you tied it in to your work in the bathroom), love the floor (that epoxy floor paint is great stuff), love the yellow. I think it’s really cool you made the curtain rods out of rebar-so many layers in this video! Great job 👍🏽!
Everyone on RUclips says it, no big deal but checking for level on the vertical is called 'plum', horizonal is 'level'. Great project
Explaining the gap between the concrete and joint compound was a good one to make. I have always wondered about that in finished garages, and that really makes sense!
I love the mirror in the bookshelf! That’s such a creative way to create a condensed vanity space
I love the modular units! It looks ultra modern in design but the wood elements warm it up. Nice job.
Love the shelving around the windows. I think I will copy this for our master. Easy to assemble, easy to remove later on
Loving this series, can’t wait to see the kitchen and living room renovations!
I am obsessed with this space! This was super creative and clean I love the book shelves and the modular wall is fantastic!!! The floor came out perfect love the cracks it gives character to the space 🧡 so good!!!
It's so exciting when anything - tile, wallpaper, popcorn ceiling - comes off in large sheets. Happy dance! 😄
You could make that into a air B n B, not sure if that area is a tourist area, but if it is, you can rent it out all year round after you finish with the entire reno of the house. Btw, few changes on your bus (maybe), is the folding door, I've seen people changed that to a regular door, , add security system, add solar panel on top and finally add a system to collect rain water so you don't have to constantly have to get water for showering, etc. If you design a way to collect rain water on the top of the bus then have the water drain down into the bus through pvs pipes then it will solve a long term water issue because it will always rain. And if you drive to certain states, it rains like crazy all the time (cough, cough, Washington state or Oregon). Sorry for leaving such a long comment.
This is absolutely FANTASTIC! I would love to do something like this for my daughters room.
I LOVE IT!!!! I have this huge living room wall and I have been trying to figure out what to do with it. The shelving system it EXACTLY what I need! THANK YOU!
I love the built-ins and the peg wall, I think its important to recognize our flaws and my dude, you gotta buy yourself some curtains
I'd like the curtains more if they weren't so skimpy - there should be almost twice the curtain as width of the window. Triple fullness for sheers
What if the idea is to keep them closed because you're a vampire? 🤔
@@BillyOnRUclips Then he still needs new curtains because they let in too much light :P
@@GillDawe haha
Looks great! Fresh, clean, neat, but not boring!
Way to go on the curtains! As a sewer I would never think to do it that way but it makes so much sense and is such a great idea. They look awesome.
All of your videos have inspired me for years, this one is your best yet. This helps me out as I have just purchased my first home, and have plenty of plans and aspirations based on your videos. Keep up the great work!
Wonderful results! Great job!
Looks beautiful. Everything is so bright and cheerful. You did an amazing job.
Looks great! Love how everything turned out.
Looooove this build and the color combo! 😍🙌🙌🙌
Great Job Mike! Love your work!!
"I got a plan for all these cracks, kintsugi!" haha
I love the use of bright colors too!! It's so rare a male would be comfortable with such a color for a room. Definitely retro vibes. 👌🏻
What I love is that the space matches you.
Oh! Total super pro for putting that plastic down before removing the popcorn ceiling!!!! Oh and cutting the carpet up into manageable pieces!!! Don't ask!!
went all out in this one. love it.
Nice work. Imagination and effort come together.
I love all the things you do. You are my hero.
Definitely your best yet. Super job
Dope as always! Good work mike!
Now that was a fantastic renovation of that room Mike! Love how great it looks & how functional it is! Great work! 👍👍😉😉👏👏😉😉👍👍
Awesome work as always!!
Tip for the curtains: attach the rod closer to the ceiling so it creates the illusion of having bigger windows. It makes the room cozier.
Also, nice Brett cameo there haha
Neat idea! Shoutout Bret!! 🤙🏼
Also, it looks better if rods and bookshelves are aligned.
Awesome job Mike. This turned out very unique and very nice design. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend Mike. Can't wait to see more videos on this house project. Keep making. God bless.
That renovation turned out great. I noticed the cool light fixture on the ceiling. Nice!
Very nice. Cool to see everything come together. Thanks for the video.
Love it Mike. Great job as always!
It's really awesome , this is why I love DIY 😍😍
Love love those curtain roads !!!! Love the build Mike great video 😄👏👏
This is great Mike!! Bravo!!
This bedroom came out AMAZING!!! Excellent job!
It’s a bedroom only a woodworker could love. 😉 It’s perfect for you. The colors are very bright and cheery.
Omg, it looks soooooo good, congrats!!!!!
I love it, and just an FYI my husband and I helped our son with kitchen cabinet doors they had the grooves in them as well, we used car compound filled sanded etc. then painted it turned out amazing. Keep up the good work I like how you think outside the box.
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Came together so nice.
Great work!!! Well, my old sleeping space goes away....soon! I certainly caught it when you said "...so let's get after it!...."
I'm getting after it!!! Lol!
What really pushed me to get after the Reno, was the whole wood wall, (pegboard or not)... I have got to get the MCM back into my house and this is the color: warm, cozy, and "bright". Walnut and rosewood "color" really dampers the light down.
Kudos!👍👍
That turned out really well. I enjoy your videos, they are very simple but informative.
FINALLY!!!!! I’ve been waiting for this video since seeing parts of it on your instagram ❤️ I love all the videos, but this bedroom looks amazing 🤩
Hahahaha Same!! I kept checking his RUclips page to seee if it had dropped yet!!
Thanks a ton!! This video was a big one to put together! 😁
@@ModernBuilds You’re the absolute best, with the absolute best fan base 😉 we love ya bud keep on doing you!!
@@ModernBuilds i can definitely see why, it’s a big video and an amazing one! congrats!
@@Rafa-ws2nm Nice pfp
Super satisfied to watch. The outcome looks super awesome!
YES MIKE! THANK YOU!!
♥️ I felt like it was going to be too much white but it came together so beautifully!!! Love it!
Super beautiful work Bro. Thanks for giving new ideas. 👌🏻❤️❤️❤️😘
Amazing transformation Mike!! Can't wait to see what you have planned next!!
So well executed!!! I love seeing you accomplish bigger projects
Always brilliant mike!
That's so awesome I love it!!
You are THEEE MANNN wow this was amazing and creative 😊😊😊
BRUH YOU WENT ALL OUT. Just, wow. I LOVE many of the shots, like that one at 2:28, and all the fulfilling timelapses . The whole project and video are beautifully executed...the long-form film style is my favorite because I can really sit back and enjoy it like a show I am additionally SO satisfied that you painted the floors (a lot of folks might have left them). Way to put in the extra effort with reusing those routed doors. Everything turned out amazingly. It's modern and full of personality.
Inspirational and motivational. Full of useful information and ideas
everything looks great. well done
Great transformation! One of my favorite videos to date, despite not having a house to be customizing myself haha
Love the whole room with so many wood elements and we also have same cowhide rugs in our own bedroom so that's cool 😎 👌 😌 ☺
Loved this one! You are awesome!
So excited for this video that i popped some popcorn haha
Impressive. Love your aesthetic!!
Part of me likes the concrete floor, part of me dislikes it. Feels too much like a basement or shed/garage conversion but it does work as a perfect blank canvas for other floor treatments... rugs, flooring, and carpet.
I guess its nice if you live in a warm area. Where I live that floor would feel way too cold
@@yesjoeri1 This. Long Island wouldn't lend itself to concrete only floors. Would have to be covered with some insulating layers of something...
I would’ve loved to have seen the exposed concrete surface stained/epoxied or something like that, but it could always be redone in the future if an update is desired I guess
Wow - pegboard, color, everything looks first rate.
Looks real good I love the space
Looks super awesome Mike! You do such great work!
Beautiful space! I love your videos
Outstanding!!
Very cool!
