This week I show you a DIY bedroom makeover from start to finish. I walk through all the steps and provide tips and tricks along the way. I normally break my content up into individual episodes, but for this project I wanted to show you all the entire renovation all in one video. Let me know what you think of this style of video and the end result of the project! I love how this one turned in the end and hope you enjoy the video!
Thank you for watching and hopefully you found the video helpful!

good job man you turn an old room into something I would never ever think of doing in my life, you made a masterpiece!!!
You nailed this makeover, I love it. Only tweak I would've done would've been to include "night stand" cubbies for the beds up top. Using some of that dead space below the septic line, I would make some box inserts into the wall between the outlet and the life saver floatation device, giving them a spot up top to place whatever they plug into the outlet, like how the queen bed has the shelf with the outlets.
I am not a diy-er or a renovator and dont even own a house, I rent an apartment. But I love watching makeover stuff or videos of people building or making things while I study or before I sleep. Just wanted to say I love how you made this video and how it was edited and really enjoyed it :) room looks amazing!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😁 That’s actually how I started - I would watch lots of building and DIY content and then one day I decided to try it myself. The rest is history 😂 You should give it a go!
I've always heard that black makes a space feel smaller, but your use of LED's really illuminates the black which looks fantastic. Great work man!
Thank you! I was also hesitant to incorporate black into my designs for that reason, but now I love using darker colors for contrast. And as you mentioned, with the right lighting, darker colors can look great!
Black is the color of the endless night sky. It is misconception that darkness makes a room feel smaller. I am so happy that dark colors are becoming more commonplace now
a small room is small, black doesn't make it small. I love the use of black or a very dark graphite grey on walls. my go to shade. (Black is not a colour, neither is White. They are shades and tints.)
@@curtmuhlenberg9363 unless you're in the art or science field, black and white are colours, because let's be real... No one is calling them shades in every day language. If you're asked "what colour was the mugger wearing?" Are you going to stop and say "well, he wasn't wearing a colour.... He was wearing a shade"... The technicality is pointless for colloquial English.
@@iCantLogOut Every field is either an art or science field unless you're going into a service.
You absolutely KILLED THIS MAKEOVER!!!! I honestly can’t remember how I came across your channel but as a new homeowner I’ve become more tuned in than ever and sure as hell glad I found it! Absolutely Amazing!!!
Thank you so much, really appreciate it! This was one my favorite renovations and video edits, so I’m glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon 😁
I love so much about this! The aesthetic, the big bed on the floor level, with all the additional sleep space. I think my only change would be having wood steps. Pipes are fine for ladders when I've got shoes on, but can be hard on bare feet.
Thank you so much and I appreciate the feedback!
Good reuse and refinishing of the old wood panelling you took off the walls
Thank you!
You make me wish I was still young and healthy so I could attempt this project.
Less is MORE!!!! I really like how there is nothing on the walls, clean , light & airy - Great space for a guest room - Wonderful work!!!
I totally agree! Thanks for watching 😁
Love it, great work. Put the round mirror next to the door, it’ll add to the nautical look and having a mirror in the room will make it feel larger and brighter especially in a basement room.
Thank you! And great idea! I’ve been debating about adding decor to the walls, but I think that would be a great addition!
The layout of this project is nicely constructed. Very good instruction as well.
Nice work. You have an incredible eye for design. I am not usually a fan of wood. But with the balance of the wall color, the dark woodwork and the lighting, it looks fantastic.
Thank you so much! I am a self-taught designer so sometimes I'm unsure of myself, but with each project I become more and more confident. Thanks for watching and I really appreciate the kind words!
Great use of the space! I love the idea of modernizing bunk beds 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Steph! Appreciate the comment!
Dude, keep it up! You have some of the best content on YT right now.
Thank you so much! It's comments like these that keep me going. I got more content coming your way soon!
I originally turned this on for background noise but ended up sitting and watching the entire thing. I really enjoyed your process, explanation, and the editing was top notch. Good job man, really inspires me to try and do improvements myself.
Thank you so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed it and it inspired you 😁
Nice job!
Thank you!
Love this build, my kinky critique is building top of the carpet as now its near impossible to replace the flooring in the future without compromising the bed.
Thank you! We replaced the carpet just before this reno so we don’t plan on changing it anytime soon. You can replace the flooring and just shim the few points where the bed touches the ground. Also, I think cutting the carpet out from under bed before starting the build would have led to more headaches. I would need to install a ton of tack strips on top of the concrete subfloor which is never fun.
I love that you reused the wood❤ Great job 😊
Thank you! 😊
great window frame idea
Thank you!
I'm really digging the dark trimming; iron ore is a good choice 👌
Thank you so much! I was a little hesitant going with such a bold color, but I totally agree! Love how it turned out
Sir that was beautifully and masterfully done, I applaud you. If I may, I think the door should be painted to match the color of the old wood.
Thank you so much! And that’s a great idea!
Great design and execution! Nice addition to the overall theme. The lighting takes it over the top. Nice job reusing all that wood.
Thank you, I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video it’s Rare that I find a video that I really like but this one was one that I really like definitely can we watching it again
Thanks, I really appreciated it! Glad you enjoyed watching 😁
This bedroom makeover video is a total game-changer! The bunk room they created is so cozy and stylish. I can't believe how they turned a regular room into an amazing bunk space - definitely stealing some of these ideas for my next project!
What you've done to the room looks quite bigger than before, good design!
Glad you think so!
dog was supervising and make sure you wont slack off 😂
Exactly 😂
Love it! My kids would love the adult area and grandkids would love the bunk beds. Great conversion. I am in love with the industrial desk. I need one in my office/craft space!
Your dog definitely wanted to help! 😂
She’s loves to help build 😂
That look incredible and I love that you reused the wood.
Thank you very much!
I love the way you walk right behind the bed. Amazing video!
Thank you!! 😊
This looks fantastic. The after is a lot better than the before. Well done and high five to you for the amount of work that you have put into this project.
Amazing!!! I love the industrial modern look! You're a talented man! ❤
Thank you so much!!
SSSOOO much talent, knowledge, patience and work!! Excellently well done.
Love it! It really opened up the space. The one thing I would have changed is the carpet. Nice job.
Thank you!
My favorite part is your wood,...... I mean , the woods you used building the bed. Nice makeover. Love it. 😊❤😅
Nice build! Great execution of your ideas for the room. Love the wood wrap.
Thank you! The wood wrapping around the room is one of my favorite parts of the room too!
LOVE that you guys are getting more and more recognition each video. Keep working on these great work!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
I wouldn't change a thing. You really should be proud of yourself. That was a lot of work and it really turned out beautiful. Great job! I really enjoyed watching how someone can transform a space with such creative ideas.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😁
Was an exciting way to watch each part of the tear down and new ‘construction’ take place. Thx much for the seemingly ‘speed of lightening’ move super quick. Much preferred over real time in many other projects.
The design with the upper beds was a winner. Also, like the roominess in the new bedroom. No doubt whoever occupies the spot will totally enjoy!!
Congrats on a job very well done!!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate all the kind words and f I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😁
I would've done some alternating tread stairs instead of ladders. And maybe would've done a double-double with under-bed desks/wardrobes and a center staircase.
Great ideas!
1:07 I like how you punched one of the ceiling tiles into the trash can and it broke in half! Nice!
Thanks! It was so satisfying!
@@GoldenKeyDesign You’re welcome!
Very creative design! I love how you accommodated 2 above and a Queen below. Plus, I’m coveting that amazing Christmas storage space. Tell your wife she’s lucky to have someone so handy.
This project looks slamming good. Your house guest are going to live it.
Looks amazing love how you used all the old wood too ❤
Thank you so much 😊 Glad you like it!
love the way everything came out too
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Brilliantly done. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Thank you so much 😊
Love the build and the desk. I personally would turn that bed into a Murphy bed and have the cabinets go all the way up. And I'd turn one side into a book shelf that swings open.
Thank you! And that’s a great idea!
With a secret space behind for someone to read quietly.
This gives me ideas when I move out of my parents house keep killing it man
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Great use of space. Think you should paint door in either wall or trim colour rather than orange wood that goes with nothing else.😊
Great idea!
agree with the other comments, you nailed this one. Beautiful
I would add a curtain for the top beds so if someone is using the desk at night, the ones who sleep on the top could at least block the light out.
Great idea!
Best use of space for vacation, ever!! Wish you could make these in my house in Cali!!
Plus, excellent reuse of the materials. Your demo was spot on.
Thank you so much, really appreciate it!
Using adjustable players to pull the nails is genius. I’ve always used reg pliers laid sideways over a crowbar to get leverage.
Thanks! It is a great technique and satisfying 😁
Thumbs up for the dog
Olive is a great building buddy haha!
Killed it for sure, thanks for sharing❤
Thank you 😊
This looks very nice. Love the layout for the beds and LED lighting.
Thank you so much!
You have a really great thought process! +1 for avoiding the Agreeable Grey color
I love how this turned out! It sparked a few ideas for my cabin. (It needs some TLC)
I've never liked the look of wood paneling but the way you used the real wood turned out awesome! 🎉
Tyfs!❤
Thank you so much! I also love how the wood walls and ceiling turned out 😁
Really, really nice. Gives me a great idea about my own basement if/when my grandddaughter moves out.
what a great transformation!
Loved it except I feel sorry for the people sleeping in there when someone flushes the toilet. Hearing it all going right past their head makes you rethink the vacation.
Thanks! And I added insulation around the pipe so you don’t hear it. Also, when people are sleeping, no one will be using toilets/sinks/showers anyway
It's a lake house.
@@GoldenKeyDesign I wake up in the middle of the mornin' 😣

Love the bed area!
Awesome!I can relate to your sense of design.
You could put a small 2 seater sofa or fouton on the wall near the room door. Or another table unit.
finally someone who reuses materials
I try to reuse all that I can 😁
The sconces on the lights in the loft are SWEET!
Thank you, I love them too 😍
Wow! A beautiful renovation! 🙌🏽
Thank you! 😁
NICE WORK! love the black and wood combo!
Thank you! Black and wood is now my favorite combo of colors/textures 😁
The room turned out stunning. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, glad you liked it!!
Probably the first woodworker I've head make that complaint about a planer
Love it. Love every bit of it, with the exception that I cannot do this in my home! BUMMER! Awesome looking room makeover, and you made every second of doing it look easy! dig the raw recycled wood.
Well done!!!
Thank you so much, really appreciate it!
Excellent job, I love the design.
That turned out amazing.
Thank you!
So cool I would definitely love to sleep there
Thanks! It's super comfortable!
amazing use of space, you got a new subscriber... only thing I would change is the color of the door, it would look amazing in the dark paint that you used for the trim... great work
Thank you and welcome aboard! And that’s a great suggestion. I do want to eventually switch out all the doors in the basement similar to how I did the upstairs doors last year. Just didn’t have the time in this project. But I agree, the door kinda sticks out like a sore thumb 😂
I love the transformation!!! I’ve never seen your channel, but I just subscribed! My only change would be to create an inset nook for each of the upper beds, for people to be able to set their phones/iPad down or a book…whatever people usually put on nightstands. Having an inset outlet would also be awesome too, so you’re not sleeping with charging cords in your way. And the space is already there, behind the wall and below the pipe. That is literally the only change I would make - I absolutely love the whole room!!
Thank you! And that's a great tip! I did think about doing just that but I was worried I would run out of wood before I finished the whole room. I did end up having some left over pieces, so I might go back and at that in. Thanks!
You should get some of those glowing metal picture frame things for the more blank walls
Great idea!
Awesome build!!! Drill some holes under the twin beds on the plywood mattresses need to breath or they will get nasty
Thanks for the tip!
Brilliant that mate, you should be very proud of yourself and I love how you reused the old wood ❤ from England
Thank you, really appreciate it 😁
I’d hoped you were going to paint the ugly door 😂. Great makeover👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! We might still replace the door 😂 I replaced the doors on the first floor several videos back and might do the same down here but I would do all the doors in the basement at the same time to keep things efficient
Just watched today 12/14/23 Loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks 😊
fun to watch. these channels. HARD to duplicate. lol. learned a lotta tips. tricks. god help me. i am gonna try it
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoy the videos 😁
The only change I would make (and it looks fabulous!) is paint that vent the same color as the wall.
Fantastic! I love the use of the LEDs. I think I might build this bed for my son actually.
Thank you! The LEDs really elevate the space and make it feel very custom. Good luck with the build 😁
Youre so talented! I loved watching your video! Great Job!! Love the led's and the industrial look as well as your amazing use of the space and re-use of the wood. Very nice!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Fantastic work!!!I would have painted the interior door black!!
Thank you! I think a black door would look better too - it’s on the list haha
On The wall by the door that leads into the room I’d put a small table and chair for drinking coffee while reading a book or just to relax in.
Great idea!
That ceiling edit was 🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 it matches the music so good!!! 😂😂❤❤❤❤
Truly LOOKS FANTASTIC!!
Thank you ☺️
A thousand percent better and it looks more modern and rustic if that makes sense.....
Thank you 😁 makes total sense!
I love, love, love this room. One thing though. The carpet. you built everything on top of it. So If you ever want to change it out for other flooring.... that could be a real pain. Love that you used the wood on the ceiling..... 1,000% better than that acoustical drop ceiling that was there before
Looks great! The bump in audio and video quality in some of the shots was a solid bonus 😍
Thanks Ian! I was so excited to finally upgrade all my gear. My next video will be even higher quality production! Excited for you to see!
Looks great! Some thoughts: Those pipes are going to be uncomfortable for bare feet to climb. I'd suggest a ladder rebuild with wood and re-purposing the old ladder parts to make a couple of folding luggage racks. Throw a half dozen additional hangers onto the hanging space, and all luggage management needs will be met.
To make the room more welcoming: A wall mirror on the wall opposite the windows, to both increase light and provide a place for guests to check their appearances. A throw rug, a slimline upholstered armchair, and an ottoman using colors already in the room would be amazing, if you can fit them in. A place to sit that isn't the bed not only makes the room more classy and comfortable, it can also make a world of difference to older and/or less physically able guests to have options on where to sit when trying to manage their footwear.
Great job!! I love the room!!
Watching u from the hospital you doing a fire 🔥 job hoping I can get you're views one day
Thanks for watching, appreciate it!
Wow!!!!!❤ love it!!!
super well made man, earned yourself a subscriber!
Welcome aboard! Thank you!
looks great. The only addition I would make would be small niches w/ usb plugs on both sides of the queen bed.
Thank you! I have 2 outlets on either side of the queen, but I could also add usb plugs. I also have a ledge/shelf behind the pillows of the queen to put your phone, water, etc. I thought about niches but I didn’t want to cut into the storage space. Thanks for watching!
It is beautiful 😻 the “ain’t nobody got time for that” 😂😂😂will always be funnyyyyy
Great remodel. One suggestion is to revisit the safety rails on the upper beds. You can read bed design codes. I like to keep spacing
Thank you and great point! Right now it’s just adults sleeping up there but I will add additional safety features once kids starting sleeping up there
