When we lovingly refer to Floor Jansen's vocals producing a "Floorgasm", we are talking about what emotional reaction it causes in our bodies. The scientific term is "frisson".
A Frisson is of short duration, lasting only a few seconds. Typical stimuli include loud passages of music and passages-such as appoggiaturas and sudden modulation-that violate some level of musical expectation. During a frisson, a sensation of chills or tingling is felt on the skin of the lower back, shoulders, neck, and/or arms. The sensation of chills is sometimes experienced as a series of 'waves' moving up the back in rapid succession and commonly described as "shivers up the spine". Hair follicles may also undergo piloerection (Goosebumps). 😊😊😊🎶🎶🎶✌☝

Technically accurate and very enlightening but it's way too clinical for the application. We're just a couple million metalheads, most without scientific backgrounds or interest, who merely understand the term to mean the obvious. It was originally coined to describe the sudden, tearful, cheering, spontaneous and simultaneous mass release of seven years of tension, anguish, and heartache at missing their lost queen, Tarja, by the audience the first time they heard Floor render her signature ending of Ghost Love Score (that you heard in your previous reaction), particularly the very first time anyone heard it in public. For newcomers hearing Nightwish for the first time, or for those who joined the NW fanbase during the Annette administration and learned as their first exposure to love her vocal style and presence, it is a bit different. While these groups will, no doubt, like Floor's ending and be very impressed by it, it just can never be the same as it is for us old timers who were in love with Nightwish precisely _because_ of Tarja's style. The heartache of losing her from the NW stage was almost too much to bear for millions of original fans. That tension and sorrow spontaneously evaporated in an instant when Floor hit that first GLS ending in the Texas show in 2012. Hence the mass simultaneous Flo-orgasm. Doctors and psychologists can study it in retrospect and write clinical textbooks about it in relation to a universal human response to music, and that's cool and awesome. But the vast majority of us old original fans just consider it the moment our seven years of mourning evaporated in a puff of smoke (like a Ghost Love, LOL!) and we went, "Tarja who??" //// I'm being humorous with that last part. Don't take it literally! ;)

@@christomashofski9160 I totally understand what you are saying! However, you are speaking about a specific circumstance regarding Tarja's exit from Nightwish. This type of situation has happened many times to fanbases of other immensely popular music groups. Ozzy was kicked out of Sabbath, Ian Gillian left Deep Purple, then Richie Blackmore left Deep Purple, Bruce Dickenson left Iron Maiden, Rob Halford left Judas Priest. As you can tell from this sampling, I am old school and I am sure you could add many more to this list. The point is that all of these groups needed to find a way to move forward or call it quits. When your vocalist changes it is the most difficult. He/She is the voice of the band and someone so unique as Tarja makes it that much more difficult. However, if a fan can get past this change it is possible to actually still love the new incarnation of the band. A frisson is a real thing which has existed long before Floor ever opened her mouth to grace us with her incredible voice. There are many people who never experience a legitimate frisson. It sometimes takes a very passionate and emotional human to even to have this physical reaction to music. Feel lucky if you are one of them.

You've already "caught" some of the secrets: their optimistic energy is enormous, and it's amplified by the audience, and as you noticed in your first reaction, Disney's influence on the composition is significant. Very nice reaction! There are very real reasons the guys in the band are smiling experiencing how Floor is interpreting their music, and on her face to once again be out in front of an audience owning the stage. What you are feeling is an emotional bodily reaction to the music and voice combined, very real indeed. Stick with this show until you are done, then progress to the Wembley '15 and Tampere '15 shows - you will get a sense of how Floor now fits totally into the band and how the current drummer Kai Hahto fit in replacing Jukka Nevalainen playing in this show. Enjoy!

What a delicious treat your comment. When I heart this song for the first time I felt very happy, just because of this song. Suggestion give your comment on "The Poet and the pendulum". But Nightwish with Floor has so many great songs/symphonies and I like all of them, though I am 80 years old, Dutch as Floor is, and only since previous year knowing that symfonic metal was made for me. Just stay healthy and go on with your live.
don't worry, your reaction to this song is the normal reaction to the wonderful songs of Nightwish, composed by the genius of Tuomas Holopainen, who is also the keyboard player, simply the songs of this band make you feel good, even the saddest ones 😉

Always best to watch live performances from 2013 onwards if you like this singer. Only exception is latest album Human II Nature as yet to be performed live but every track available as lyric video and they are amazing.

That "wow" in the middle of the song is the most perfect reaction I've ever seen.

The way you feel during a listen or after viewing a video of a song.. that's the Floorgasm. There's not a bad song in the bunch when it comes to Nightwish. This is one of their more rockier songs, along with Romanticide, and if you want to go a bit heavier, look no further than Yours Is An Empty Hope or Shudder Before the Beautiful

So you now realize that you have experienced a Floorgasm. Her voice causes that to everyone, you know. Even if you've heard a song a thousand times, the 1001st time you just experience it again.
I would suggest to continue with ‘The Last Ride of the Day’ from that same concert. But actually it doesn’t matter which song you chose because every song performed at that Wacken Open Air festival are as good as the others.

Welcome, dear lady, to the world of Rock :). Forgive me for presuming, as this is the first time I have come across you on the RUclipsz, so I as yet know nothing about you and your tastes :bows:.
Nightwish sit in the niche of Symphonic Metal but, with Floor handling the mike, they are just one of the powerhouses of all music - quality bridges genres and these folk are very high quality indeed. This concert in particular is wonderful and marked a step change in the band as they left behind dramas with previous singers and soared musically with a woman who, as we always say, can sing whatever she wants :).
And, giving away my age and probably confusing the hell out of you but you don't half put me in mind of Sharon Davies when she was young :D
EDIT: Now I've had a chance to have a look at your video catalogue I see a reassuring amount of good music in there :thumbs up:.

Nightwish...why did I resist? I am 68 years old...my son is 30. He pretty much forced me to listen to them, he never wavered or gave up. I am sincerely in his debt...lol ! Music is the Great Uniter. I turned him on to Pink Floyd and U2, he gave me Nightwish and Within Temptation in return. For us, there is NO generation gap ! Welcome to the show...enjoy the ride dear :) :) :)
The choir your hear halfway through the song is a studio backing track from the London Symphony Orchestra's Children's Choir. Makes sense b/c this is a song about Peter Pan, children's hero.

She sings in 4 languages from musical to pop. Here is an example: a cover of shadow and a duet of fantom of the opera. Enjoy!!
