      Making use of the wasted space affects the aspect ratio and thus video quality. So why bother?

    That "wasted space" you're referring to actually contains components and connectors for the boom sound speakers (and possible other things). If it were reduced they would've had to shrink the battery to make room elsewhere for that.

    The space on the phone wasn't wasted, it is required to have 2 front facing loud speakers, watch a tear down video of the phone to see what I'm talking about. Love your vids, probably my favorite on youtube overall.

    The black bar is there because there are many things underneath like antennas and such. HTC commented on the black bar and said it's there for a reason, and HTC made the camera SDK public, the developers can actually do some cool stuff with it right now.

    Once you get your hands on the m8, you'll have a more positive opinion cold. The battery performance is fantastic. The feel I ultra premium. Sense is spot on. It's kills the note 3 but not in the camera aspect. Had the note 3, too cumbersome. Peace and respect!

    I must say that I like what HTC has been doing lately. I got the M7 and I was worried they would ruin the design for the M8 as I love the M7. I must say that they haven't and I hope they keep it similar with the M9. As good as things have become these days I don't see a need for drastically changing every year. I wish they shrink the bessels and improve the camera for the M9. Btw, great work, mate!! :-)

    Had my M8 for a week now and for the must part I'm satisfied, yes the camera could have been better but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Did add some cool features though to the camera like copy and paste. And the build quality on this phone is outstanding feels very nice in the hand also the speakers are the best I ever heard on a smartphone. Previous phones Note 2 and Nexus 5, still have my Nexus.

    Totally agree with your all your thoughts. Especially the "chin" on it and the 4MP camera. My GSIII actually just conked out on me and I'm back to my GSII as a backup but luckily I'm eligible for an upgrade in May. I was planning on waiting it out to see Motorola and LG's flagships but I think I already know what I'm looking for. Swappable battery and MicroSD are still two things I look for. LG and Moto probably won't have either, M8 has one of those, and the GS5 has both.

  • @CebastianRosing
    @CebastianRosing 10 лет назад +1

    We've missed you.. or I have, haha ;) As per use, excellent video, unique style and a respectable opinion. Personally I don't see anything worthwhile on the HTC One, sure it's better in every way, but as you mention, it's mostly incremental upgrades.
    I hope you give Oppo some more screen time, I think they're great in many ways, and I hope you visit the OnePlus One. That's actually really exciting, given the pricepoint it aims at. And the hype they're generating.

    • @MinikNielsen

      What is it people sees in Samsung devices? I bought a new 46'' Samsung Flatscreen TV, because I like their TV products :) No SmartTV please, because I have an Apple TV that's way smarter than build-in SmartTV in TV's :) But Smartphones and Tablets? They lack in user experiences because it feels like they're only focusing on features. It looks a little bit better on the Galaxy S5. But as a person who really thinks about how a product should look like rather than what it can, I would never buy a Samsung smartphone simply because it ain't pretty. HTC made some good looking phones as well for the M8. You know I'm a big fan of the Moto X and the Moto G. Sony's smartphones looks okay, I can go with that. But Samsung and LG (Except for Nexus 4 & 5) - urgh :P

    I personally rockin galaxy s3, of course rooted and running CM11 KIT KAT 4.4. I'm strongly considering if I really need an update of my 2 years phone. I learned one thing when I bought s3 my best smartphone to date. You only need nice hardware such as like with the PC the rest you can do by yourself of course if you running android phone. Make it new again, boost new life in it. Second world of custom roms kernels side loading of apps etc, is awesome. Good Video!!

  • @Crush3dI

    Samsung presented the super energy saving mode first.
    And the blank spot where the capacitive buttons used to be on the m7 is used for antenas on the m8, so this space isnt wasted.
    Anyways the HTC M8 would be perfect, if it wasnt for the camera.

  • @Mitchseen
    @Mitchseen 10 лет назад

    Great review and background info as usual. However, iso cell camera in the S5 is a significant improvement and you do need more processor power for 4k video and future applications. I doubt any space is wasted on the m8 and it is certainly finely engineered mobile.

  • @dablive2
    @dablive2 10 лет назад

    I have the M8 myself, and I must say that it is the best Android experience I've ever had. I came from a Galaxy S4 and quite frankly, I didn't realize how much the built quality matters. Samsung phones just don't look as appealing as some of these other flagships. Furthermore, HTC is much better with software. Sense blows TouchWiz away in both the appearance and functionality departments. The only area Samsung has HTC beat in is the camera. I wish HTC would spend more time into developing the perfect camera. I actually think the "ultrapixel" camera is a good idea, as it takes great photos by taking in more light. They just need to increase pixel count next time.

    Very good video as there are so many people who thought specs is everything, MP is everything but they have very little knowledge on how tech works. I have been with the S and the HTC. S has real good specs but it just feels cheap. Furthermore, these phone are build to last only for a year. Now I have a M7, it does have defects at first but I still like HTC as they are going back to the right path.

    Sad part is that this phone will be overlooked by most of the consumers because of Samsung.
    I own the HTC One M7.
    I kept telling the people that were looking for new phones to have a look at the HTC One and most scuffed at the idea as HTC had a bad rep.
    So most got their new Galaxies and just the other day one of these people worked with my phone and the were blown away.

    Hey mate, firstly love your work!
    Just noting that I took the plunge and updated from the m7 to the m8: while the first was the best phone I had ever used this phone is just better in every sense. And for the camera, it can really replace my mini dslr: the app gives you manual controls (for example I am able to take night shots with a 4second shutter speed (the quality is unbelievable!) Anyway get your hands on a device and check it out- I bet ya you would love it!

    1.The black bar on the bottom is not a waste of space as you can see in this teardown goo.gl/FZCVO2 It's for the speaker components. They could have gone with the old capacitive buttons, but I'm happier with the on-screen keys.
    2.Despite G2 is one of the first to feature tap to wake(knock-on), it's not "Courtesy of LG"
    3.IMHO Kitkat might bring a better experience to lower-end devices, but ram is still a very crucial element to the user experience these days.
    Great video nonetheless as always sir!

    • @marklong81973
      @marklong81973 10 лет назад +2

      As of now I would have to say that the M8 is the all around & overall greatest smartphone I have ever used. Other than sound quality and OEM skin it isn't really the best at any one thing but it is near the best in virtually everything, including the display quality where it ties the G2 as the best I've seen yet. The M8 when taken as a whole package cannot be touched by any of the competition now or any of the competition in the short to mid range future. I think the only phone that has a chance to top it in 2014 is the G3 and even at that I don't give the G3 that much of a chance. So, in closing, like MC Hammer said-'you can't touch this' 😁

      I've had every Samsung flagship since the S2 and am totally burnt out on Samsung and their horrible Touchwiz overlay. Until a complete overhaul with all new code being written for Touchwiz or an outright abandonment and better build materials I will never own one again so I don't really even consider them when thinking of potential best phones. They make best sellers but they fall well short of making the best phones in my opinion. That said, it is, of course, entirely subjective so the best for one may be sh#t to another. I've also gave up on Amoled displays.

    I consider both this and the S5 downgrades from their last iteration... portability is the no1 important feature in an android phone and these two sacrifice all of it for useless peripherals. last generation androids were already too big. the M8 basically has no extra screen relative to the M7 if you subtract the on-screen nav button area.

    I mean why they aren't selling because they seem good

      They ARE good. They aren't selling because of the reasons I first mentioned.
      Poor advertising and average batteries. The M8 is shaping up to be the phone that does everything right for HTC.
