A video defending and celebrating Dovewing's character. A Mary-Sue she is not! Not just that, this video also doubles as a roast for Dovewing's horrible love interests, Tigerheart and Bumblestripe! I hope you enjoy!

Bumblestripe isn't "sweet," he's desperate to get Dovewing by any means, even if he has to manipulate her, make her feel guilty when she rejects him or he gets his little friend group to try to manipulate Dovewing. If Tigerheart isn't the right choice for Dovewing, then Bumblestripe absolutely isn't the right choice either. At least Dovewing actually likes Tigerheart back.

i think a reason people dont like her is because she replaced hollyleaf and was mean to ivypool, both fan favorites. dont get me wrong, i love them, but i have nothing against dovewing because of that. I think her books and powers aren't the best written but i like her, i have nothing against her!
this is probably a very unpopular idea but i would find it interesting if tigerheart got dovewing pregnant and dovewing didnt want it, it would fit with his character and if it was handled with care would make a good side plot
That's probably why I was at such a disconnect with people who hated Dovewing for being a replacement for so long. I myself despised Hollyleaf back then and didn't understand why others liked her.
As for that Tigerheart thing...well...we all saw how they handled Spottedleaf's Heart. I don't have much confidence in them portraying an unwanted pregnancy with discretion or respect. Especially since were talking about Tigerheart. Not exactly a trustworthy figure.
Seriously, if that douche touches one hair on Dovewing's pelt I will find a dimension jumper and cut his throat.
lol i think dovewing was a good (not replacement because she's too different) but cat to come after hollyleaf's departure. after they lost so much and the female protagonist was so pessimistic and rule-following we get this pure litte kitty who breaks the code to visit her friends :3
I hated Hollyleaf too. I don't think she was a replacement. I found her irritating, always moaning about the warrior code. I love Dovewing though!

Why does anyone refer to Dovewing as a Mary Sue? Her power was only to have expanded senses. Meanwhile, Lionblaze's power was to be practically immortal in battle. Jayfeather's was to read minds. I hate Lionblaze and Jayfeather, but most of all Hollyleaf. She is my second least favourite character, after Clear Sky.
Anyway, Dovewing's power is a total break from the awfully op ones. Whilst having visions of the future while not being a rank that can do so, being able to feel the pain of other cats and see dead cats, as well as being able to make other cats see dead cats, super strength and mind reading exist, everyone rages about her senses!

Excuse me?! That's her POWER. Lionblaze fought off most of the rogues in tribe territory as an apprentice. That was his power. Jayfeather saved Poppyfrost as an apprentice. I'm kinda sure they was his power? Idk. Firestar saw the future as a KITTYPET. Visions were his power! Does anyone rage about that? No.

She didn't. She was unsure whether she loved a creepy stalker Bumblestripe or an advantage-taking Tigerheart. The poor fluffball was put under an awful situation!

Hell yeah she does, just ones you were to busy complaining about her to notice. She blurts things out quickly, she is quick to snap, she doesn't notice when she's testing a cat's patience and she is easily confused. I love these flaws, they make her interesting!
"She replaced Hollyleaf!"
No she didn't. If she did, than why did Hollyleaf never have a power? I think the authors did this on purpose. Not exactly a replacement.
"Ivypool did all the work."
While Dovewing struggled with the prophecy and her power, had a paw in saving the clans from the drout, wanted to tell Ivypool about the prophecy but was sworn to secrecy while Cinderheart would soon know, went to the mountains with Jayfeather, felt so guilty she told Ivypool about the prophecy, tried to figure out who the fourth cat was and then was one of the main cats in the battle against the dark forest, I can agree Ivypool had a good impact on the battle but because of her training Hollowbelly, she also had a bad impact. She risked herself in the end, but for most of it she made it worse.

I absolutely hate how all the lawful good characters get called a sue now a days. If a character is full of anything but hatred of the world around them (with the exception of comic relief) it's suddenly a bad character.
Just because someone is happy doesn't mean that they are perfect.
This is what happens when 99% of the internet now is full of angsty teens that haven't reached the end of their emo phase. They think everyone has to be cruel or sad, and anything else is unrealistic.
Dovewing might not be a mary sue, but I still really dislike her because she treated her sister like crap and chose the WORST guy to have kits with.

Dose nothing wrong. It was ivypool who was wrong. It was tigerheart who was wrong. It was lionblaze who was wrong. She dosnt have flaws basically. I don’t hate dovewing I just don’t really like her that much.
I laughed so hard at Jaypaw's first reaction to the Prophecy.
When I first read Omen of the Stars, I liked her but I like many others, feel in love/understand Ivypool, Ivypool is still my favorite character, but I have to give credit to a great character. I think people don't realize is Hollyleaf and Dovewing are very different? Hollyleaf can be judgmental and headstrong, while very very moral based, her life is the Warrior Code, while Dovewing is a kind compassionate cat that would help any clan, (Hollyleaf still helped the other cats, but in all honesty ivypool and Hollyleaf have way more in common in personality than Dovewing and Holly ever did,) And I fell in love with her character even more in Dovewings silence, she tirelessly stood up for her sister at any chance she could, so I think people have to remember that she is her own cat pushed into a life that was mingled with complicated circumstances ;; !! (And man I ignore Dovewings ships xD)

If anything, I think Ivypool should be the one getting the hate. After all, she had to stay with the Dark Forest, spy or no. Her jealousy was understandable, but couldn't she have talked to her sister about that?

I prefered Ivypool better the Dovewing because she actually got stuff done and didnt have a love triangle. But at the same time, I feel Ivypool didnt revealed a lot of information about The Dark Forest. I really wish they took their time to write the characters a bit more.

I actually do rather like Dovewing. At first, she was annoying to me, but when I read Dovewing's Silence I realized that my opinion was formed by rants from other people, since I listened to their opinions before I read the books, which influenced my opinion on her. I loved Dovewing's Silence because it made me realize I couldn't keep spoiling myself due to the fact that it affected my emotions on the characters. I really like her now, and think she's a good choice for the Power of Three, I have even defended her from someone who said she was whiny by pointing out she was barely out of the nursery when she was told that she was part of the prophecy. And not to mention, without her powers she felt deaf and blind.
You are not alone! I’ve always Lovewinged Dovewing. She’s so sweet and innocent yet can be strong and independent, especially in her decision to join ShadowClan.
I also think it’s funny how people complain about her being whiny about the prophecy and mean to Ivypool, but then call her a Mary Sue (aka a character with NO flaws)
As for the shipping drama, I don’t think that Bumblestripes obsessive personality came out of nowhere. If you read closely, you can see Bumblestripes acting like this in little bits throughout Omen of the Stars. And Dovewing did nothing wrong for rejecting a guy she didn’t like. She actually rejects him many times but Bumblestripe ignores it. I hate this ship. You can’t have a heathy relationship if it’s one-sided.
As for Tiger x Dove, it’s kinda meh for me. It definitely has its problems with them being “on again off again”, but at least the feelings they have for each other are mutual. And recent books have shown how much they love each other. Tigerheart was willing to give up his role as deputy and possible place in ShadowClan to follow Dovewing and their new kits. And Dovewing left her entire clan, family and friends just to be with Tigerheart and raise a family with him. I wouldn’t go as far as saying the relationship is abusive, but I think it’s just very bland and unoriginal. But it’s definitely better then Dove x Bumble.

When I first met Dovewing, or at the time Dovekit I immediately fell in love because of her innocence, sometimes I wanted to go inside the book and screech at ThunderClan when Dovepaw brung up the brown, noisy creatures.(beavers) and no one believed her personally, I like Dovewing more then Hollyleaf and Ivypool, but that's just my opinion. random: I used to ship Dovewing and Foxleap but I'm pretty sure he died now there's only that excuse for a cat Tigerheart and innocent little Bumblestripe I'm quite angry because I heard that The Erins want to make Tigerheart join ThunderClan because he loves Dovewing

I didn't hate Dovewing, nor do I. But... I dunno, it always felt like the Erins viewed her as nothing more than the replacement, as a lot of fans believe. But, that's not a bad thing--in fact, they could have taken this idea of Dovewing replacing Hollyleaf and made her something amazing. Dovewing would have to prove her own worth of being the true third cat, and it would be a coming of age story as epic as Firestar's. She certainly had potential; you're right, her sweetness and optimism are likable, even commendable. I especially liked how she didn't want to eavesdrop on other cats, because it showed a glimpse of her inner sense of morality. She obviously has opinions and her own sense of right and wrong, but... I never remember the books really exploring this. Sure, she'd disagree with Lionblaze and Jayfeather, but she'd never straight up tell them it's wrong in her eyes. If she'd just stand up a bit more for her beliefs, and her arc had turned in a different direction, I'd truly love her. But, alas, another forced cross-clan relationship was needed, making her story more about forbidden love then a young, sweet, yet naive kit becoming a strong, hard-working she-cat he fought to prove her worth.
I thought there were like 3 people who loved Dovewing: me, my sister and hopefully someone else.
It turns out two of my favourite youtubers (Moonkitti and Quiet Rage) love them and a whole lot of other people!! And you're right, it's so rare to bump into another fan of Dovewing in the wild. Quick, fans of Dovewing, let us stick together, so we never find ourselves fighting battles a million to one ever again!
I see your point of view, but I never actually hated Tigerheart. Sure, I thought he was a bit of a jerk at some moments, but I was glad he and Dovewing got back together. I thought he really grew as a character, and the entire point of character development is to get past their mistakes and become a better person. I also didn't really consider it a love triangle, because it usually has the girl not being able to choose which guy she loves more, when in this case, she clearly had feelings for tigerheart and none for bumblestripe.
I can't find the video about ridiculous warrior names, but here's my discovery. You know how you were talking about Twigpaw being named Twigbranch? (I also think it's a stupid name) Anyway, I searched for Violetpaw's warrior name. I went into a forum, and they were discussing what names they liked for Twigpaw and Violetpaw; one person came up with the names Violetblossom (which I think is really pretty) and TWIGBRANCH!!!! No joke. And some people VOTED for that. So I think the Erins might have seen that and decided to do that. Well, on the bright side, if they did get Twigbranch from that, then that means Violetpaw will at least have a good name. Personally, I like Violetbreeze, too.

Dovewing is just so caring and soft, unlike 95% of characters in this universe. She has the same thing as Leafpool and Firestar that I love.
I LOVE DOVEWING! I also like how it wasn't Leafpool's 3 kits. That's predictable. I liked the plot twist of that. It also bothers me that people hate her because she's a "replacement". THAT'S NOT A REASON TO HATE A CHARACTER! SHE HAS NO CONTROL OVER THAT! Also about her changing eye color, THAT'S ALSO NOT A REASON TO HATE HER! THAT'S THE AUTHOR'S FAULT. Dovewing was put through a lot as an apprentice. People need to see that.
Personally, i don't like her because she plays victim all the time. Makes a mistake? Well she will make it AGAIN and then cry acting like she had no idea. She's really immature and often times (especially in previous books) she was VERY full of herself. I can somewhat tolerate her because she means a lot to Ivypool... but still. Ivypool turned out to be such a better cat because she DIDNT play victim. She could own up to her mistakes and actually LEARNED from them. Something i cant stand about a character is when they are attention-seeking victims. In my opinion, that is was Dovewing is/was.

Lunalia I’m going to assume you’re an Ivy lover- Ivy was cocky throughout the entire series, even after finding out the truth it was her partial pride that gave her the urge to spy, no offense, but when was Dove ever cocky? However, yes she was naive, it’s one of her flaws, however her mistakes were genuine. Dove did get some development in her novella as well, supporting her sister throughout the novel tirelessly, and *selflessly* - then in Bramblestar’s SE she grows into an occasionally sarcastic she with vast amounts of understanding, displayed in the hunting scene with kittypets. Honestly don’t understand most of your points.
Great review! I've been hoping to see a video defending Dovewing (and Firestar tbh) from the Mary-Sue blames. Half the time I feel like the people who throw that accuse around don't even fully know what a Mary-Sue is.
And I completely agree with the ships... Just let Dovewing go solo or give her a nice healthy relationship instead of two toxic ones.

I remember debating with people on the forums about Dovewing. I always liked her- she was never a favorite but I thought she was enjoyable- and some of the arguments against her made me really confused. Some people whined that she, for example, didn't throw her hunts to make Ivypool look better- which isn't fair to ask of anyone, especially someone who's never actually tried to be a show off. And when she lost her powers, I get why she struggled. Her senses were with her from the start. They weren't something she could just turn off, they were something she thought was totally natural. It's losing a part of the way she'd always experienced the world.

E Parhas well, she was a lazy replacement of Hollyleaf. They could have just kept Hollyleaf. Also, she decided to go fool around with Tigerheart, when she already had Bumblestripe. I'm getting sick of this "forbidden love" thing. It was cute the first time, but know nobody seems to care about the warrior code. I can see why some people like her, but I don't.

I like Dovewing, after I took a break from Omen of the Stars while reading Dawn of The Clans (textbook definition of underrated), I came back with a Dovewing chapter, and she was a lot less annoying then I remember. I started warming up to her! And I'm glad I opened my heart to her! She's fine, I like her but I don't love her. She would probably be number 10 on my Top Ten Warrior Cat Characters List.

Yay a Dovewing fan! :D I don't understand why she gets so much hate. I mean she did have flaws. And it broke her heart to not be able to tell Ivypaw about the prophecy. Thus Ivypaw hating her. Also she practically failed her warrior assessment to make sure Ivypaw did well. Also just because she had a forbidden romance and y'all hated her for it. But y'all also loved the Gray and sliver. Leaf and crow. And Blue and oak. (Most of us loved them) she also really cared about Ivypool. She kept worrying about her every night! Back to the love thing, Dovewing didn't love Bumblestripe, she loved Tigerheart. ( I personally hate Bumblestripe) Dovewing is a good character with flaws and I love her.
Dovewing is one of my favorite characters, before I really got to know her I hated her because the majority did, but once reading about her and getting to know her I fell in love! She deserves better than Tigerstar and Bumblestripe!
I usually have unpopular opinions on warriors. You can tell from my user name that my favorite character is Feathertail, but Dovewing has always been a close second. I never really understood why people hated Dovewing so much. I get why some people have negative feelings for her but I feel like she’s done nothing to deserve as much hate as she gets. I think it’s mostly because they wish Hollyleaf was one of the three instead of Dovewing. I just never really liked Ivypool either. She would constantly yell at Dovewing for being a good warrior. Ivypool would get mad at Dovewing for catching more than her on a patrol. That just makes me feel like Ivypool is being a jealous jerk.

I personally really like most characters, as I can see some good side to them or some cause for their reaction (even Breezepelt when he was everyone’s most hated cat). I think people really hated Dovewing because she was Hollyleaf’s replacement. (I don’t know why people like Hollyleaf so much, she’s actually one of the few I dislike). Another thing I think people hate Dovewing for is the love triangle, how she couldn’t just choose one guy to be with right off the bat, as if she didn’t have any emotions herself or wasn’t allowed to, and only Bumblestripe and Tigerheart’s feelings mattered. Dovewing was forced to choose between the safe cat from her own clan that she really never felt anything for, or the cat across the border who she actually loves but she doesn’t want to be with him because of his affiliation with the dark forest and some of the manipulation ploys she figured out.
This really made me enjoy Dovewing more! Thank you for making this video!

Hey Quiet Rage I have kind of an alternate universe of warriors I kind of wanted to discuss in this video. What if Dovewing rejected both Tigerheart and Bumblestripe for the polar opposite reasons. She finds Tigerheart to be a lying snob and Bumblestripe to be a stalker. So here's what will happen. Usual events but Tigerheart and Bumblestripe will get scenes together while their hatred for one another continues to grow since they are both in love with Dovewing. Soon they get into a heated argument over who gets Dovewing and then they begin fighting in an attempt to kill each other just for that one she-cat. Soon Dovewing appears and she is horrified seeing the two cats that like her the most trying to kill each other over her. Dovewing then runs away crying and then she pretty much goes missing. And Molewhisker is understandably pissed at Bumblestripe for attempting to kill another warrior over a she-cat.
Molewhisker: Look at what you did Bumblestripe, you tried to kill Tigerheart over Dovewing and now neither him or you will get the prize you want. And because of that, Dovewing is a sobbing mess and we can't find her anywhere near the clans.
Bumblestripe: Look I just wanted kits with her and not let some snob walk all over my chances.
Molewhisker: If I was leader of Thunderclan I would have exiled you myself! `Molewhisker walked over and bites Bumblestripe on the back of his neck while using his front paw to cut deep into his cheek. Bumblestripe wails as blood gushed from his cheek. Molewhisker soon walked off as he slammed Bumblestripe to the ground. Bumblestripe wailed in his own tears as Molewhisker walked off.`
Bumblestripe: What about anyone else?
Molewhisker: You don't deserve any other she cat's not even my own sister. `Molewhisker padded off out of the camp in the search for Dovewing.`
So here's what happens from the events onwards, Dovewing hates Tigerheart, Bumblestripe becomes depressed with life and it becomes his self fulfilling prophecy and Cherryfall and Alderheart become mates and have Bramblekit, Featherkit and Juniperkit. And Molewhisker becomes leader of Thunderclan. Seems like an interesting AU right?

OMG!! So do I!! I could never find someone with this opinion! I find Ivypool way more annoying than Dovewing.
In all honesty I think that Dovewing would have been better off without a mate. What I mean by this is that her sister, Ivypool, and her parents plus Jayfeather and Lionblaze mostly likely gave her the love and attention she deserved anyway. The love triangle was just a waste of time.

Omg I like Dovewing too! A lot more than Ivypool, actually. Dovewing got upset over being thrown into a prophecy that carries THE ENTIRE FUTURE when she was SIX MOONS OLD. Ivypool on the other paw, got upset when... her sister was more important than her. Dovewing TRIED to fix their relationship but Ivypool wasn't having any of it! Everything that happened to Ivypool was her fault and no one else's.
You have to remember that Dovepaw did not necessarily try to fix their relationship. She often boasted and considered herself more important. Also i would like to mention that Dovewing DID contribute, but her sister played a much bigger role despite not being in the prophecy. If Ivypool had no risked her life every night to spy on the dark forest cats, all the clans would have been screwed. Remember, IvyPAW got jealous. Not IvyPOOL. IvyPOOL developed into an amazing character that many take for granted. You could get mad at Ivypool for her mistakes when she was an apprentice (which i don't personally agree with either but whatever), but you could DEFINITELY get mad at Dovewing as she continued to make repetitive mistakes and play victim.
Not really Maggie. Ive reread the series multiple times (because ivy pool is my favorite and yeah idk), and DoveWING made it right with IvyPOOL.. not when they were apprentices. DovePAW did NOT make a very good attempt, she was extremely self centered. DovePAW was actually a good character, until she started to consider herself more important with the whole powers thing. Im actually really sad how Dovewing turned out as well. I honestly think she turned out worse. I expected that DovePAW would mature and leave behind all of her immature and bratty ways, but she just expanded on them. Now she plays victim, is EXTREMELY stupid (like actually, i don't want to spoil anything but she really is an idiot), and she NEVER EVER takes into consideration what Ivypool says. When Ivypool LITERALLY TELLS HER THAT SOMETHING IS A BAD IDEA, SHE FREAKING DOES IT ANYWAYS AND PLAYS VICTIMS. Thats why i cant STAND her! In Dovewing's eyes nothing is EVER her fault!

of course ivypool was overreacting, but in her eyes dovewing got special treatment. dovewing was prized a little bit, and i can understand why- but that also means it's reasonable for ivypool to be jealous. and tbh if someone i knew got powers then complained about them later, id be jealous too. of course neither are perfect (although sometimes they're written that way *cough cough*) but i think they've both got their flaws

I really enjoyed this video. I honestly like Dovewing. I don't see her as a Mary Sue because she does make mistakes, most of which about toms (stringing Bumblestripe along, selectively ignoring Tigerheart may be with Dark Forest when they got back together that one time). Her romance subplot is by far the worst part of her character. I don't entirely blame her tho because as you said, she's pressured into having a mate. She's pushed by Whitewing, Ivypool, her Clanmates to chose Bumblestripe and then she's pushed by Tigerheart, then Bumblestripe that Dovewing is never given a chance to evaluate herself and just not be with either. It's a shame the writers saddled her with that and even put her with Bumblestripe, a relationship that was clearly more obligation than romance.
I thought Dove was annoying and selfish at times towards Bumble and Ivy (usually because of Tigerheart) in Omen of the Stars, but I didn't hold it against her because she was young? That's like lambasting a teen. They're not fully developed so of course they're gonna be bratty and sometimes stupid. Dovewing isn't my personal favorite, but I think she gets too much hate. She's at least better than Lionblaze.
I know! Lionblaze is the one only cat that had something to do with the Power of Three I don't like. My opinion: Hollyleaf and Ivypool, I love them. Dovewing, I love her, but I like Hollyleaf and Ivypool the slightest bit more. Jayfeather, meh, I never saw his appeal. Lionblaze, I don't like that Blandy Mc No Character Gary Stu. It's true, out of all the Three, Lionblaze is the only one I don't like.
Lionblaze is just ... He is boring, but he's also just so arrogant and let his power get to his head. Tbh all of Leafpool's kits annoyed me when they were young. Jay was whiny, Lion was angry, Holly was OBSESSED with the warrior code. Ivy was irritating too, the jealous sister. But at least her and Jayfeather and Hollyleaf had challenges and character development which made me eventually like them compared to Lionblaze who is either bland or "look at me, look at me, can't get hurt, best warrior ever lolz". I think people complain about Dovewing only because of her romances which is always getting thrown in our faces, but I I'd still take her over Lionblaze any day.

Last year I read my first warriors book, the fourth apprentice. I loved dovewing, I liked her power and her personality. I also hated ivypool because she hated dovewing. As I learned of the internet warriors fandom, I learned that dovewing is a Mary Sue. But I never thought she was. Hey, I was 10 when I first read about her. I also love ivypool now. This video helped me say this and I’m not alone in loving this cat.
