@@SimonedeRochefort You know honestly I’m kind of interested in reading it now after seeing your passion for it! And maybe if I do read it I’ll make my own video on my own channel about it and rate the book, but also - more importantly - the cover of whichever version I get 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a copy of _The Scarlet Pimpernel_ that I've long believed has the least ept cover in existence: a painting of a fencing match (there are none in the story) in a castle basement (nope) lit by a candelabrum that cannot be causing any of the visible shadows. The tagline reads "One masked man fights to save a city held hostage by Terr" -- like, they forgot to make sure the text fit and accidentally clipped the final word. (And also nobody ever wears a mask and there isn't any fighting, really, plus it's a whole team of dudes and they're saving individual people & not a city.) It's part of a series of reprints that Walmart sold 2 for $1 back in the '90s and it looks every penny of the price.
BUT EVEN SO I was not prepared for the last cover in your collection here! What a find.

This was great! I’m from Fort Worth and read about the King Candy Company and the real connection to Hemingway and the portrayal in the book.. learned The Sun Also Rises was actually based on real people and all of a sudden it came to life in a whole new way! Anyone interested in rediscovering or setting out to read The Sun Also Rises, I highly recommend reading “Everybody Behaves Badly” first .. Simone, these covers uncovered and your critique was just awesome and fun! I laughed when I saw you had done this because I had just picked a cover for reading the book after looking around for one that appealed best to me. Who knew you did this! lol . The audio version with the bright colors and the sun itself used as the “O” that you gave an A+ for was the book I had picked out… that cover is now a book .. cool! Keep it up, this was just fun! And thank you for doing it

That image of the Word Cloud Classics from Canterbury doesn't do the book justice. It's all embossed on the flexibound cover, so it has a soft embossed leathery look. I've been thinking about getting it to read The Sun Also Rises for the first time because it looks inviting and comfortable to hold. I also dig their end papers with the stylized black bull. However, I adored the ass crack of vigor too.

God. Watching Simone rave about alternate book covers makes me wish I had passions. :/ on a less depracating note: People talking about things they like to no practical ends is my favourite brand of content and I hope we get to see more of it from you Simone.
It's also cool how you shoutout the artists of the covers.
I am also going to rate these book covers. I have not read the book, nor do I know of the authors works, nor do I have any design or literary expertise. But I do have a corner of the internet in this comment section, so I'm qualified to give my opinion:
1;The good painting makes a good backdrop for a simple and effective cover.
2;bonus points for ass, maybe the words should be bigger, idk. I guess you'll recognise it if you know the book. (I don't)
3; I think black and white pictures suck for book covers because they just feel so detatched from what I'm looking for. Like, I can't comprehend this, what is in this book for me? This takes something like the 1920's and turns it into an alien world.
4; I didn't realise Jojo's Bizarre Adventure had a bullfighting scene, but it's got everything that makes Jjba art good: dramatic faceoff, dramatic ass, tension and focus, so it's also pretty good to me.
5; That's just a dude with a black box over his tits afaik. And white on grey? No-one's looking at this and wondering what it is. That's a miss for me.
6; Looks inviting, calling anything 'the great' is bold, but I confess ignorance, I'll let it slide. Bonus points for large print because books _should_ be accessible.
7; This was criminally neglected by Simone. The brown is beautiful and the pattern picture is appealing in itself. Sure, the lots of writing makes it look pretty busy but it fits quite well with the complex pattern underneath. I think this is one of my favourites of the video and I gotta defend it. It looks full.
8; This is how people started to draw Freddie Mercury after he died. That's just Freddie Mercury. Bullfighting Freddie Mercury. Bullfighting Freddie Mercury who shaved his face. Anyways. Not sure what it's got to do with the book but I like Freddie so it passes.
9; Almost the best, however, not a fan of the fact that the sun is the o. Also not a fan of the fact that the picnture doesn't take up the whole cover. It could've, they could've done that. They didn't. But it looks great still so hit.
Little break to acknowledge Simone's real can do attitude to fucking. You tell em!
10; An 8 year old made this in I.T. Like...it's not egregious, but miss.
11; Poggers cover because when I first see it I don't know what's happening but it still looks cool so I'm interested, then the picture becomes clear and it's still good. That yellow/orange on white is a miss but hey, the bull's not black! Big W for this cover.
12; Very cool. I think that the 3 colours do so much for it. Adding personality while also highlighting each part of the cover but without being overbearing or complex. An expert made this. Or a 3 year old with a solid grasp of colours. Either way, got my vote.
13; Making the cover a Wordcloud in the shape of a sun is an awesome idea. Simone however, doesn't seem impressed by the actual contents of the wordcloud. 8/10 for the idea but maybe they should've stuck to quotes or something? idk. Not my field.
14; very nice all round. Easy and alluring. Fits anywhere. put it on a book, put it on my wall, put it on you phone. That's a damn good piece of art. Text included.
15; Bonus points for blue and sideways. Mid on the font.
16; Simone has awoken a distate foer gradients in me. That's like a 50% point penalty. Also we all noticed the lack of ass and the wierd cropping. They almost had something great here. Oh well.
17; The comic vibes are honestly what a book needs to be revitalised when it falls into the public domain. It may be the most unique one here. Also bonus points for all the art that's not the front cover. Very nice all round.
18; Looks Greek tbh, good, Ig. I'm not sure how it fits but seems nice.
19; A less aware 8 year old made this. No on most fronts. Also, gotta say something about those fucking punching bags, damn. Not what I want from a book.
If you got this far. Maybe you should review the covers yourself. Unless you're Simone, for obvious reasons. Don't wanna get stuck in a loop here.
Anyways, the book covers are alot of things but Simone's content is poggers and that's the main point here.

Also, not to detract from this excellent video, but my inner animal rights activist feels obligated to point out that bullfighters are scum.
