  • Welcome to the World of Zabbez. In this video I show you how I knit on my simple Knittax knitting machine. An old vintage machine that is perfect for beginners and a lot of fun to knit on. Knittax knitting machines were also branded in some countries under Knitking.
    Enjoy!

    These were licensed by Knitmaster, made in the UK by Knitmaster. Great machines! They were made between the early 50s to the late 60s, then the Japanese machines really became dominant place. Knitmaster stopped producing their own and just used their name on Silver Seiko (Silver Reed) machines.

    Discovered a knittax m2 while cleaning out the attic in the chalet of my husband’s family in Switzerland. It was purchased in 1954. I was soooo excited to find these videos! I’m a hand knitter but super excited to try out this machine which seems identical to the one you are using.

      This lovely young man just dropped off a version of this machine yesterday. We used to sell machines in the 80’s not this model, but the Knittax was my mom’s first machine. This new arrival is quite dusty, so wonder about cleaning it properly. All the needles are in excellent shape. I’m guessing sewing machine oil is a start. I don’t know how the carriage can be removed for cleaning and the row counter seems unresponsive. Thanks so much for the videos, much appreciated. I’m delighted to find you.

    • @justlilknits
      @justlilknits 23 дня назад

      @@stephaniegrace8623 I managed to find a manual in Dutch that specifies how to clean it! What I end up doing is taking of the carriage by removing one of the bolts on the right or left side (on the plate under the carriage when it is completely to the left or right, so just move it a bit) Then unscrew the small screws that keep the number plate there. Next open up one side by removing the 3 screws inside. Then the needles, then the sinkers. Sinkers are A PAIN. Removing is pushing the spring upwards and then pressing the sinker a bit to the left and right. Assembly is following the steps opposite order. Hope this helps. Yes, the manual is as vague as this..

    • @justlilknits
      @justlilknits 23 дня назад

      I cleaned the needles by placing them in rubbing alcohol + a drop of sewing machine oil, I wouldn't oil before cleaning it first.

    How I enjoyed this! I knitted a lot on such a machine that I bought from an old lady many years ago. Unfortunately it was stored a place where mice chewed at it, so it was ruined. The mice actually chewed the plastic sinkers! I wish it could be fixed as it is still in the attic. I just sold a newer machine because it was not good for my shoulders and neck

I checked Kijiji and marketplace constantly, but the only machines there were so pricey I could never afford one. After a year I pretty much gave up. And then I walked into a thrift shop in a small town and they were selling one! For TEN DOLLARS! All the parts were there. No ribber, but whatevs. I got one. They ARE out there. Keep your eyes open for estate auctions and small town garage sales and thrift shops. Hang in there!
