I grew up when Willie, Mickey and The Duke were all in center field in New York. What a great era to grow up in. I'll be 76 this year and it was like yesterday. Life goes by quick, kids. Don't get cheated.
I was born in 1941, youngsters. 😉 Lived in Brooklyn following the Dodgers. Favorites were PeeWee Reese and Jackie Robinson... and the Dodger Sym-phoney.
One of the truly great baseball songs from the truly great HOF singer, songwriter, John Fogerty. It's all about 'America's Game', and how it becomes a part of our lives. It's like family. We start out holding a baseball...Then, we find out later in life that it's exactly the other way around.
I'm Arthur Bhutic! I saw 👀 this by January 1985 when I was 9 1/2 living of the North Carolina Border in Chestnut Springs, South Carolina! More than a few years after, I moved to Houston!
My brother was the head coach at Catholic High of Baton Rouge for more years than he'd want me to say, and he managed to win over 500 games along the way. This song was played between innings his entire career as far as I know. I heard it so many times it's chiseled into my brain, and I often start singing or whistling it without realizing I'm doing so. I LOVE THIS SONG and I have to thank him for making it so. :)
A tribute by John Fogerty to his idol, and greatest all-round baseball player of all-time, the immortal Willie Mays. Without doubt the greatest centerfielder in baseball history. As someone once said, "This game was invented for Willie."
And a happy 75th birthday (May 28) to Mr. Fogery (I still respect my elders- at least, some of them). My very first 1st concert, back when I was just a very young whippersnapper.
This song puts a lump in my throat when I think of baseball, being a little kid again, and the Detroit Tigers. I still hold the world record for burning out the most 9-volt batteries in a transistor radio, listening to my Tigers.
You screwed me in the '84 Series. When we would go to San Diego to visit Grandma in the early 70's, I would listen to the Padre games on Her radio by Her bed when we weren't able to go to the Games!!! I once saw a 14 inning game against the Pirates; were at Jack Murphy Stadium until 2:30 AM !!! I had sooooo many cool stories to tell my Friends when I would come back to Louisiana!!!!!! The San Diego Chicken was the SHIT !!!!!! Padres sucked, yet I Loved Them !!!!!!
I'm Arthur Bhutic! This song was played in my last day of school 🏫 before Spring Break 1985, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina when I was 9 1/2! More than a few years after, I moved to Houston!
It's coming - a 50 year Met fan - and I am going to opening day at Citifield! Just thrilling - the song to listen to ... getting ready for a long and exciting season! I LOVE BASEBALL!
dale murphy the best there is the best there was the best there ever will be.the baseball hall of fame is missing out a true class act and a truly nice guy.its time for murphy to be in the hall of fame.1982 and 1983 mvp the best times ever. wish it was still those times. God bless kris graham
Thank you for mentioning Murph. He was was my favorite player ever and I finally got to meet him in Cleveland in 2018 at a card show. He is every bit the class act people always say he is. He needs to be in the Hall of Fame period. Not because I am biased but because he was and still is Hall of Fame worthy. The question is "Does the Hall of Fame deserve a guy like Murph"?
My Dad took me to see Mickey, Roger, Yogi, Yankee Stadium. you cant top that. Got Mickeys Autograph 20 yrs later believe me, at a club in Coral Gables. Thank You very much.
There is just something special about being at the ball park when baseball is played. I have been to Division 1 college football and pro football games; NBA games and they are good, but to be at a ball park where anything can happen at any time is just something else. Perhaps it is because my father took me and my brother to see our heroes at the time; Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax and others.
My dad was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan from the 1930s. I became a Brooklyn fan about 1951 and so did my uncle who took me to games in Ebbets Field, Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium. In the eighties, both of my sons became Mets fans which I was since 1962. Noo Yawk...
Greets from Austria i dont no a fu** about Baseball but this is the favorite song of my dad. We both love ccr and John fogerty ✌🏻 proud greets from a lovely country to the USA. ALL TIME RESPECT AND HONOR 👍🏻🇦🇹🇺🇸
Been a Red Sox fan ever since or before my first visit 20 or more years ago. Don't remember a dam thing, but my dad said I was four, at the T line I went underneath the turnstile and freaked everyone out by continuing on the T. Been at least once a year or every other year since. When I pass away and Fenway is still there I'm having someone bury me there so if they want to tear it down and move it someone will know and stop it. It's been there over a century and hope it's there for more over a century more.
Dominick...I was born in Staten Island NYC and my Father used to take us to Yankee Stadium regularly...Mickey, Joe, Whitey, Roger, Yoggie, Billy, Phil, Casey, and so on and so on...9-01-2019
My original baseball memory was in 1950 going with my grandfather and my uncles to see the Philadelphia Athletics play when 5'6" Bobby Shantz was pitching and Eddy Joost was playing shortstop. Fast forward about 30 years later I find myself in a Chicago hotel elevator standing next to Charles Finley the owner of the Oakland A's with a young lady I presumed to be his daughter and we started talking and as I got off the elevator I said it was a pleasure to meet you and your daughter. He said "she is not my daughter you dolt!" I was at a loss for words.
They played this song on Classic Rewind one day and remarked that he wrote this song after snarling and going nuts screaming at the TV over a baseball game and his team was playing poorly. I loved the song anyway, and love it more with the story.
Hey everyone...when I made this video I never realized it would have all this attention...I'm blown away. And yea, I tried to get as much as I could and there's a lot of teams not in it, but they all deserve to be in it. If I could do it over again I would put all the teams in it.
Nothing like a pick-up game of ball! Spur of the moment fun, miss those days getting on the blower and making calls. Listing to the ballgame on CJAD. Go Expos!
Amen to that brother. Heaven, to me, would be, me, 11 years old, standing in center field, playing in a game, during an endless summer. Am I the only one who wished summer would never end?!
I grew up when Willie, Mickey and The Duke were all in center field in New York. What a great era to grow up in. I'll be 76 this year and it was like yesterday. Life goes by quick, kids. Don't get cheated.

Baseball connects one generation of fans to the next.
It sure does and so does good music.

On the other hand, it can eat you alive! My lifelong obsession has been to be a major league player. In my 50's, it still haunts me.
Fogerty and baseball just work. This is the anthem of a generation of ball players.
I live in Adelaide South Australia. We have the Adelaide Bite, and I never miss a game played in adelaide. I always look for the Center-field.
Baseball is a Great Game

Last year,I had the opportunity to see John perform this song in concert-It was fabulous!
John what a good song & video ; according to John & me a fan. George F. LeBlanc Jr.
The amazing thing is that John apparently played all the instruments on this recording, bass, guitars and even drums. That's impressive!
Reminds me of my grandpa he was a long retired baseball coach think high school ball. Never did play much myself but brings a good smile from him.

This should be the anthem of baseball.
I think they play constantly at the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The song has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Thanks guys. I didn’t know.
At the Hall of Fame they also show Abbot and Costello’s ‘Who’s on first?’ On a loop.

Here it is, Christmas day. Can Spring be far off?
