    Australia, being almost a state of America follows this horrible practice. And I don't care what anyone says, Organic is a marketing term and is not a standout product. In Australia " Organic " egg producers still feed " organic " grains and pellets to " organic " chickens to get them to lay " organic " eggs that have a ratio of OMEGA's favouring the pro inflammatory OMEGA 6 due to the excessive amount of " organic " vegetable mead fed to them. Does not matter if they are pasture raised, free range or cage. They all get fed " chicken feed " to produce as many eggs as possible. Pasturing is usually not enough to feed commercial chickens to lay the maximum amount of eggs.
    They are also allowed to use " organic " food colouring in the " organic " feed to change the depth of colour in the yoke to match the seasons.

      Unwashed is the key here. When a hen lays an egg a lubricating secretion eases passage through the ovaduct and cloaca. This slippery film dries onto the shell leaving a germ-proof membrane known as bloom. If eggs are dirty, simply wash them well before cracking or cooking.

    I was a kid working in a grocery store in the ‘70’s, we did not have eggs in the. Old case when I first started there. Then they went into the dairy cooler but when they were on sale we would build displays of them coming out of the cooler onto cases on floor displays outside the cooler. Times have changed. We don’t refrigerate our eggs much when we bring them home.

    Honestly, the way chickens are kept in the industrial food complex, it's better to wash and spray the refrigerate your eggs. They're so covered in dirt and fecal matter after they're laid you could never sell them like that. Eggs need to be kept clean and dry from the first place in order for the bloom to do it's job, and unless you can keep your own chickens you're never gonna be able to make sure that happens.

  • @KATONKA...
    @KATONKA... 10 дней назад

    You forgot to add they actually wash the bloom off before they spray them so they don't last as long in the store #1 and now the spray is inside the egg. Case in point you can have eggs up to a year stored in lime water if you don't wash the bloom off but you can't do this with store bought eggs It will actually contaminate the eggs

    I am confused, so the US sprays the eggs with chemicals and the 'bloom' is damaged or removed and hence you need to refrigerate them while in the EU they just put them directly on the shelves? Why would the US spray the eggs in the first place then? Isnt that an extra cost that they would want to avoid?

    • @SolarCookingGermany
      @SolarCookingGermany 11 дней назад

      The EU has control programs to avoid salmonella and other diseases in the first place, I guess it's cheaper to just wash them and let the customer pay the electricity bill for refrigeration

    • @PelleGIT
      @PelleGIT 11 дней назад +1

      @@SolarCookingGermany Thanks for your reply. But the question remains then, why does the US spray their eggs when it increases the costs both from spraying them and having to store them in refrigerators in the supermarkets? There must be a reason.

    Eggs from a coop can have poop and other stuff on them. That is why they are washed. It would take different chicken coop conditions on a mass scale, before we could all buy clean eggs that don't need the refrigerator.

    Does it go through the shell because I don't eat the shell?

    • @AMKB01
      @AMKB01 11 дней назад +1

      yes, bacteria can get through the shell if there is moisture on it.
      The actual process is, the eggs are washed with warm soapy water, then rinsed with a spray of water that contains an antimicrobial sanitizer, then air dried thoroughly. The air drying process is essential to prevent new bacterial contamination, as bacteria cannot pas through a dry shell, but moisture is a breeding ground for bacteria, and actually helps the bacteria get through the pours and into the egg.
