Hi Jhon, appreciate the inclusion of Teacher I need you, great Elton Rock ballad! There is a live version of it ,in Sydney 1984 so up tempo to seem incredibile to play!! Nice video, waiting for part 2. I ' d put " First episode" in the top three. Ciao!!
Hey john. Were you aware of the 1982 love songs compilation album? It may have been only released in Australia but contained love songs from blue moves through to jump out . I think that is a great compilation album
Great video, John! My usual spate of thoughts: * I suspect that "Circle of Life" was included on the collection simply because it was the next compilation to come out after the massively-successful Lion King soundtrack. They probably wanted to make it available on an Elton John collection so fans could listen to it as part of an Elton collection rather than having it tacked onto the end of the cast recording as it is on the soundtrack. * "Elton's Song" meant so much to me as a teen. Even in the late '90s and early '00s, when I was going through high school, there were almost no other gay kids, and being LGBTQ+ wasn't widely accepted. I had school-age crushes on so many guys, and could never even express those feelings, being forced to suffer in silence or risk bullying or worse, violence. This song encapsulated everything I wanted to say on the subject. * Thank you SO much for mentioning Heartstopper! I love this series!!! Fortunately, though, Heartstopper isn't a story of *unrequited* gay love, though it certainly looks that way at the beginning of the series, so that is a huge difference from the subject of "Elton's Song". * Gary Osborne penned the lyrics for "Chloe", not Taupin. I'd say this is one of Osborne's finest lyrics for Elton overall. * "You Can Make History (Young Again)" is indeed a beautiful song. It was actually released on the US version of that Love Songs compilation you mentioned in 1996, and it was a cassette single in the US and Canada that same year, charting at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100, #4 Billboard A/C, and #19 in Canada. I suppose at the very least, "You Can Make History" can make its claim to fame as part of the Diana single. Since it was on a CD, it got a good amount of play, at least in my household. * I love "Please". It's such a great mature love song. I'd call it more country than anything else, but you do hear the Beatles influence on it.
Thanks John, an interesting selection including the two from the "Friends" sountrack which I wouldn't think are widely known. As "A Single Man" is one of your fav. albums I would guess that you will have " Shine On Through" and "Part Time Love" in your top 15. I will submit my top 5 in the next few days after further consideration of the 300 plus songs that EJ and BT have composed!
Some great songs here - looking forward to part II. From youir list I would probably place the following in my top 15 - Elton's Song, I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford), We All Fall in Love Sometimes, and I Need You to Turn To. I would include the following in my 16-30 list - I've Seen That Movie Too, Chloe, Michelle's Song, and Shoot Down the Moon. Appreciate your inclusion of Teacher I Need You (to your point, not a song one would necessarily equate with a traditional love song but a really fun song).
“You Can Make History Young (Again)” is on the American release of the Love Songs album. It was the A side of a single here in the US. Here, the B side to “Candle In The Wind 1997” was “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” from The Big Picture.
Thanks. I think the Candle single had two extra tracks in the UK, making it quite a collectable, though I don't have it, unfortunately. The US version of the Love Songs looks more interesting than the UK one.
Not easy to comment on, as we haven't as yet got the big picture, so to speak, missing half the list. Blue Wonderful would have gone much higher for me. Something a little Californian about that, in my mind, doesn't bring Blue Eyes to mind for me, too different. I'm not sure I'd have picked hardly any of the others you selected in this part of the list. I think my list would have to be much shorter. Blue Wonderful and Please would hit my list though, maybe You Can Make History and Something About the way you Look Tonight too. I think We All Fall In Love Sometimes is about falling in love with a moment of creation, song wise, the lyrics are clear in the regard. You may have to redefine love song. Maybe Circle of Life is indeed a love song, but one about the beauty of life itself. You may have to let it in if you let We all Fall in Love Sometimes in. I'll see what I can pull together, and post a list in your part two video. Doubt I'll hit 30 though! Maybe something like 20-30 in such a list of mine would be honorable mentions or something like that!
I believe Chloe is the wife of Elton's producer and sound man Clive Franks, I remember reading it somewhere

Little Jeannie , Blue Eyes are two of my own personal favourites John . Looking forward to your next list in part 2
Thanks. They might, or might not, make my top 15!

You can make history again can be found on Love Songs album.
I will be awaiting for the part 2 of your list , John. Anyway, good choices up to the moment.
Thanks. Do you have a top three?
It's a strange song, but I like Shooting Star too. I always thought I'm the only one.
