It's about time to show an update with the Savard HiQ 8 v2 DVC subwoofers. This sub offers dual 2 ohm 2.5" coils and 500 watts of RMS power handling. It appears to be a mini monster, but how does it sound? Let's take a closer look at the custom, slot ported box and try out these subs with some real power.

I bought some savard rap mids and tweeters from Ebay. One had a bad crossover. They replaced it no questions asked. Customer service is top notch
Man I had some Hi-Q 12's back in the late 80's. Savard is based out of Baton Rouge, la. The old man started it then went away but many years later the son brought it back and it's better than ever!!!
Glad to see Savard back in the car audio scene. I've been a fan since the early 90s.
Always loved 4x8s builds. Lots of enclosure flexibility and great musical performance. My favorite by far.

I've always carpeted my boxes but that box looks so good it would be a travesty to cover that work of art...
4 Rockford 8's in the back of my Ghia, running off a Punch 150 was the best setup I ever had. The kickdrum in Motley Crues Dr Feelgood would just shatter you, and of course some Magic Mike pounded like crazy.
I BUILT A SIMILAR BOX LAST YEAR BUT WITH 2 :D 2 massive audio hippo 84's(identical to these, 2.5in vc) In a mdf box with 2 3" aero ports. Granted it doesn't look as cool as yours. That being said I've never heard such clean bass in my life, the lows are incredible.

After a long time of contemplation, thanks in big part to you Big D, I ordered a single 12” HiQ. It won’t have nearly as much power, only 800 watts, but it should get plenty loud in a hatchback.
It will be plenty loud given the correct box
@nestor aguirre it is GREAT!! I have no regrets on buying the sub, except I should have done it sooner!! It is powered by a Down For Sound JP8 and it hits the low notes(25-35 hertz) with authority!! It will make a half empty water bottle in my cup holder do a little dance at the right frequency. But, I designed and built the box a little larger than the specs call for, and I tuned it to 28hz as well.
thats a beauty of a rig.. id have a bigger port so itd get louder, but then again, im used to working with round ports.. i have a crafty lil way of making wooden round ports... none the less, 👍👍!! your channel is fire, man!!! well done!!!

2.5" coils on an 8" sub is pretty awesome. They seem like decent little subs.
I've used all kinds of subwoofer configurations since the late 80's. 4x8's was my favorite. Even though they have roughly the same cone surface area as 2x12's (a tad less), 4x8's just sound better in my opinion.
4 8s have surface area of 3 12s or just over 2 15s. 8s r quick and these new monsters eat lows up unlike the old ones, so imo it's the best setup like u said
@@erik120719 no he is right you got something mixed up. if you said 4 10s then you would be about right .
surface area is radius squared times pi do the math and you will see for yourself
@@Crushonius getting too technical there man, 4x8=32, 3x12=36, 4x10=40.... That's being generous since cone quite a bit smaller considering the surround makes cone smaller. Just quick reference that's all.

Perfect time for an 8 video. Ive been exploring options for what to put in my Blazer. Wanted to save some of my trunk space, so was thinking of an 8 or two.
I run 8’s too. I run the Skar sdr8dvc2’s. Happy with them. I’m pushing 350 to each one in a sealed enclosure. .66 box each. So great with all types of music. Sound responsive and tight. No boomynesss. I have mine separated completely. Running at 1 ohm each, each has their own Skar 350.1d.

Usually when metering outlaw u want to keep the side with the meter door and window closed so it builds pressure, that's probably why it metered lowered with both windows down

This is more ideal for me then two larger subs. Great setup and would enjoy this more for music of all genres.
Had some old skool savard 10's back in the mid to late 90's. They get down!!! And held up for a long time.

Man those 8 inch subs aren't bad at all especially for $89.99. I've always liked Savard. Savard was the first subs I ever owned which were hand me downs. I got them in 1996 but they were bought in 1991. I had them until 2000 and I wish I never got rid of them.

Savard is trying to make a comeback after their tax evasion days when the current owner's father ran the show. I'm glad they're coming back again, they had some dope great back in the '90s.

He'll yea! Glad 2 see the Savages are back! They where popular in my ears before I was driving, at the start of my love for car auto. I had a Rap series 15. I was told they were originally made in Baton Rouge, witch was only like 20 miles from my home town, Gonzales Louisiana. Killer to see em on the Orion amp. Always one of my most intriguing brands!
They are still made in baton rouge.. if only they had a 10 inch hiQ it would be a no brainer who I would go with for my subs!

I love the box man, but you should really list what the complete cost of a set up like this might run someone who is starting out and would like a nice set up of what your displaying.
Why? If you’re interested in it, do some leg work and find out yourself. Don’t be lazy.
That box looks well built, only thing is I may have chamfered the backside of the sub holes to let the subs breath better. It's pretty thick for that little sub. Great video 👍

I switched from Kicker to Savard in the late 90s, they have always been at the very top of SPL abilities.
Still have one HIQ15 and one HIQ10 that I barely used ...and an early Rap 15 (without a vented coil) that I beat to death more than once snapping leads. Revived it and ready to go anytime.
I'm half tempted to send them to you as a gift to do a comparo.

Why do they not offer a hiQ 10 inch now!? I check the sit regularly to see if they are just out of stock but even if i google them i get nothing! Such a shame!!!

When I first got into car audio...my buddy had a couple of Radio Shack 8 inches in the back of his 69 Superbeatle facing up in the window. That thing was thumping pretty good! Sealed box. Then I saw a first gen RX7 with 4 8's in an upward facing box. Also impressive!
I like the quick response of s smaller speaker for accuracy. And less room taken up...

Sweet enclosure, it was cool of those guys to hook U up. Looks like great quality! I hate to be negative but the sequoia Is bo-ring! If you're going to have some custom stuff built, gratis or otherwise, can't you send them measurements for the hot rod? I'm sure anything that will fit in the old Ford will fit in the Sequoia, Accord, even the excab of the ranger for testing purposes

These were small subs, but very fast and in that box, oh yeah! I expect that bass to be quick and responsive. Pretty loud for 8s. They are not usually loud. How about four 10s and same brand? I like that box build! Very nice work. Might improve with some Lizard skin treatment, two coats on the inside for dampening and one coat on the outside. Just a suggestion! 😁💖

Ive been checkin out your vids, they are cool. Idea: test some of the old skool subwoofing using 6×9s, but with new tech 6x9s , enclosures and amps. (Back in the day before xcroosovers were cheap and more available, even before amps. Power boosters and power eq's ruled , basically setting all the bands all the way down except for the last 2 or3 bands for bass., it worked...kind off...lol

Considering they have an SPL (efficiency/sensitivity) rating of 78db, those numbers are pretty impressive. They are highly inefficient !!!!! Even their 12” model is only rated 85db. That’s a very inefficient subwoofer.

That box is sexy as hell! You should do two builds. 1 old school with some of your old Orion or Fosgate amps. Then another with more modern gear. Test each car out and see which sounds better old or new. Cause i seen videos here on youtube of people doing 150's DB back in the 90's!
They used mics back then which according to Wayne Harris of dBDrag can be as much as 8dB higher than the pressure sensors

Your SPL variance was good thing, higher SPL with all doors closed vs open means you didn't have any wave cancellations 👍.

Derick, I think a lot of people really like this box. Would you mind putting it on a scale and tell us what the whole thing weighs? A lot of us are old and consider having to lift the box, which is one of the reasons for leaning towards the 8's.
Or maybe have a contest to have us guess the weight, and who is closest to actual.
