- Enjoy a fascinating profile of this world-renowned laminated glass artist, including a visit to his exhibit at Charlotte's Mint Museum and a look inside his Winston-Salem studio. Produced by Our State magazine and UNC-TV, with generous support from BB&T. This segment originally aired on 11/3/2004.
That "Golden Dusk" round piece is like he took a Gustav Klimt painting and turned its soul into a glass sculpture. It's so beautiful.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
That’s why I clicked on the video 😍
Klimt gave the color, but the design was ripped from russian-jewish avangard, like "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge" by El Lissitzky. You've seen his "brushes". With all respect to his beautiful works he is a craftsman with great will to do beatiful things, but never an artist.
Exactly what I was going to say!
@@sasha7966 It was bugging me, I was wondering where that imagery was stuck in my mind from, that oddly coloured segment was standing out like a sore thumb. Still and interesting mashup/reworking of other ideas.
This is way more beautiful than any diamond i have ever seen.
Truly great artists.
Would love to have a piece in my office or at home.
Diamonds are shit comparing to this. These sculptures can have any light, and any form and much cheaper
Billie Hansen and Natalie far less common but far more valuable.
@@straycat1674Diamonds are only expensive because DeBeers stockpiles diamonds, and manipulates people into believing they are valuable.
@@gendalfgray7889 donkey
You haven't seen many diamonds in person
My partner said "He makes art like an accountant and it works" and I think she's so right. He's basically making intricate 3D spreadsheets of glass, each cell with a different content and formatting. He has an office of data entry workers. He's a project manager of incredible sculpture.
My cat would have a field day in that room with the spinning light
My dog loves lights to but he likes to go after the source (my hand) because he knows im the one who is shining the light haha. So im sure my dog would just knock everything down
It would have a siezure.
Is the cat Siamese? Reply back.😺
@@nicholasshade Ha ha no, shes a Russian Blue Tuxedo
😂 Same as your insurance agent!
‘To the illumined mind the whole world sparkles with light’. That was nice
I had the privividge of visiting the John Kuhn Studio when visiting from England around 5 years ago, it left a lasting impression on me, the work is trully breathtaking.
Kind Regards
Peter Cornwell
saludos de México. de chihuahua están bien fregonas me gustaron mucho nunca dejes de a ser las felicidades
I want to see what it would look like under water.... so the edges of the outer glass go away and the whole thing becomes like some matrix where you cant tell whether youre looking at a piece of glass or a floating cube of color
Andrey Vasilyev OMG! Yes! We need to see this!
Absolutely brilliant. I would love to see that too.
Lets crowd found
Profound! Andrey I had not considered this yet I immediately recognised this as hitting the point. Thank you for this your insight.
[ Ignore this further if you wish: I am a lawyer that has wasted my life. I should have been an artist. Words, light and so on. Over two decades I have saved, about 5 lives (in law). I could have achieved vastly more with words or sculpture (with wood) as an artist.]
It wouldn't look any different. The refractive index of water isn't the same as the glass, so you'd still see the edge between water and glass.
This guy seems much more humble than Jack Storm, he at least acknowledges his team. I like his sculptures better as well.
good god I thought he did nothing but rave about himself! Jack storm must be a real douche!
He is
They are both different people, with different personality. Jack Storm's work is amazing as well as this man.
he's been doing this a lot longer than Storm
Sammael Quin yeah I agree, he made himself out to be a douche
Brought tears to my eyes when I saw the art gallery
Takes my breath away. Would so love to see these in person.
Mr. Kuhn, and also artist Jack Storm, are amazing creators, I find this medium and the creations absolutely mesmerizing, a feast for the eyes and soul.
I've never seen or heard of this glass...Absolutely beautiful..Imagine being that talented!! Wow...
wow i never would have imagined it was glued together, thats really interesting and clever.
You are also clever my lord
His work is absolutely breathtaking! What a gifted man and his team. Heavenly!!!!
I created a few humble glass art pieces and always loved to work with the light and the colours. Your work is mesmerizing. The pieces speak to my very soul. No words can describe it.
Really talented crew. Love their work.
seeing these pieces of art gave me goosebumps...stunning!
This is the most beautiful art I have ever seen!It may have healing qualities. Cured my down feeling instantly. I am happy to know my fellow mankind has so much vision and talent!!!
Every single time I see something like this, I get another confirmation about the definition of art: emotional response.
I had the luck to view some of his work in Chicago a few years ago, and I can confirm that even within the bustle and noise of a crowded exhibit hall, his pieces were glittering stars, and they captured everyone's attention beyond all the other art that was shown.
This glass art reaches in and pulls out memories, that I may have only thought about at a glance, of childhood Christmases that were so intensely happy, and I can’t believe it’s true because it seems so unreal.
im am thankful just to see it on youtube . its incredible
Wonderful Sculptures and GREAT ARTIST.
Wow, this is really beautiful. I'm glad I came across this video.
Pure Majic, I could watch them for hours.
My favorite piece is the fisc "Golden Dusk".....i was calling it "The Klimt Donut" until he said the name in the video. All i can say is, wow, wow, wow. I could look at these all day long.
Dusk or Dust?
+H You know, I dont know. Either name makes sense (i dont feel like watching it twice...let me know.) : )
+H Hell, it could even be "disc"....
press pause and you can look at it all day! literally!
The magnitude of power in art and the mesmerizing beauty you create. I think if not for art and colors and creativity the world would be lost
These blow me away. I would give years of my life to learn this craft
Your work is indeed "SPIRITUAL"! Absolutely love it!!
These are amazing, I even cried a bit, they were so good
Utterly beautiful work!!!! Hypnotic to look at. I'd rather stare at that for a couple of hours than watch TV!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh, the sculptures are mesmerizing. The multi colored ones especially the large round one with the multi colored glass towards the center and the smaller colors floating around toward the edges are beyond words. Actually they are all beautiful and different in their own way. They definitely have an effect while watching them softly turn around.
Wow, absolutely beautiful work !!!
I'm in awe .... This is just spectacular.
this is the most beautiful thing ive seen this week!
Mind blowing and fascinating. My favorite glasses 👌👍👏👏👏🙏
Great video, glorious pieces
Most amazing work ever - love the round one - hope to see some in real life one day.
Astonishing✨! All I could say through the whole video is 'Ohh, I want one!"
I'm truly speechless. Had no idea such things existed. Whenever I felt down or anguished I would walk around the china and crystal section of a store and would feel better. Worked every time. I can only imagine how it would feel to walk around the museum room of these magnificent works of art. I actually held my breath at some of the pieces. There is some sort of life or energy or something i can't explain.
Artistry and architecture should be the norm. RUclips should recommend these more often.
These are so beautiful!! They're like magic
This glass is so beautiful that is makes my heart pound with excitement. I am captivated.
I seriously doubt that I could ever afford any of this profoundly beautiful art. That little piece of truth does not stand in the way of my desire to own a piece of such beautiful light and color. If the opportunity comes my way, I will be all over it.💯❤️
Wow. That is the most beautifully stunning & breathtaking thing I've ever seen, bar none.
Deliberate, open minded, collaborative, diligent, LOVE makes his work indescribably, just ENJOY!
"This are my tools, this are my paint brushes" -JK
Beautiful words explaining his passion.
I could look at this all damn day. Beautiful work. Wish I could have one of these.
I feel like I've been in these glass pieces in my dreams. They look like a glittering world, a galaxy of colors & lights. Indescribably fascinating ✨
Oh my gosh I absolutely love it it’s so gorgeous wished I had some glass like that in my kitchen windows to reflect sunlight that is just so gorgeous I love it love it love it thanks for sharing😘💜❤️💙💕💕💕💕
Just imagine laying on the floor in a gallery full of these while gentle music plays, watching all the lights dance across the walls..✨💛
Or could just have 1 in ur room if choice & enjoy it every single day
I love these. I love Jack Storm's work too. I don't need to choose which I like best. :-)
Exactly.
Crazy how he manages to make these amazing forms and sculpts.
The narrator is right. There is something mesmerizing about light. I want to go to their gallery. I love glass. I love the color. I love the shine.🎹🎼🎵🎶🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇💜💜💜💜💜📀💵💳
I thought Jack Storm's.work was impressive but My Lord in Heaven this is immaculately beautiful.
so beautiful!!! in awe
I could just sit and stare at those sculptures for hours
Beautiful, they look like gems encased in crystal. Fabulous.
Always follow the light! Well done !
Brilliant works of art. Wow! Mesmerizing! Can be use to hypnotize oneself for meditation.
5 minutes into this video, I fell offa my chair, STUNNING, VERY IMPRESSIVE CRITICAL WORK DONE TO PERFECTION.
this video sure makes you want to go shopping for home items~~~ great post!
Unbelievably beautiful. Amazing.
Love the art, stunning!
RUclips recommendations shining for me today, quite on point to my mood tbh!
It's not that many other people do not have the creativity to come up with gorgeous works like these. The problem is *all the machinery and facilities* that you need to have to be able to make these pieces. Just look at all those industrial diamond polishers and lathes. Unless you have a chance to work in a place like this, mo matter how many marvelous ideas you may have, they will never be realized.
It’s unbelievable Wow!!! This guy is a fabulous artist.
I cannot look for longer than a moment..it is overwhelming! It provokes some profoundly deep spiritual feelings!
gei
and this is art. something we all can agree is truly beautiful and artistic
Oh my gosh and what Talent he has so amazing my goodness absolutely absolutely stunning gorgeous wow never seen nothing like it so amazing😘💕💕💕💕
I wonder if he make jewelry size. I would love a necklace pendant like this so amazing 🔆 🌟
YEAH THAT WOULD'VE BEEN REALLY COOL
People comparing this guy to Jack storm? They both have an amazing talent and skill and their own style. They both make amazing work. Seems wrong to say one is better than the other.
anyone study art before, would knew that we can't compare artist to artist or people to people, same to jobs and from individual to another individual.
All artists can affect positive change but who does it the most?
It is important to note they both use a "cold form" technique whereas 99% of all other glassartists use a "hot form" technique. So it's rather strange to compare how they differ while they are two artists who both do something radically opposite compared to their fellow glass manipulators.
O my goodness this is just so beautiful
wow the best glass art ever! iv seen!
Glimpse to a piece of HEAVEN, amazing
Idk why but this is making me really nostalgic
Stunning I saw him in another video a few years back when he made a cube that refracted the light I just wish I had enough silly money to buy even a small sample of his art some of his pieces just speak to the soul it’s the only way I can describe the feeling when I look at some of his pieces that he’s designed.
Breathtaking!
Oh my! Two Words, Mind Moving.
That is so awsome. Especially that he includes his staff
I'm gonna own one of these pieces one day. Absolutely breathtaking shit, here.
me too!
would yu please teach me how much a piece of this work cost? Is it true that that it takes 8~16 weeks to complete it? Amazing n beautiful color~~
They run about $12,000-24,000 each. Beautiful but out of reach of my finances.
And i say for Billie Hansen...For sure,my friend it's more really beautiful than any JEWELS in the world, absolutely. And I know the world of precious or fine stones, I collect minerals. Here we play in three dimensions and we cross the material through transparency and play of light that reflects, bounce, associate, diverge, cancel each other out, rebuild themselves, change in the very heart of this noble material that the artist has magnified with all his talent. An exhibition of these inspired and ingenious artists of glass or crystal would make any audience dream about the planet by offering them another dimension of this visual and conceptual art generated by the spectrum of decomposed light and the fascinating colors engendered which mesmerize our gaze. It is a drug for our eyes and our creative imagination in search of absolute. These works are of a timeless beauty and indisputable.Bravo for these great artists of our time and tomorrow.
Very Beautiful Glass Pieces😍
His pieces are like playgrounds for light, reflecting, reflecting and bedazzling.
I just watched a video of a guy who does this too. He does it alone. This guy has a whole company
AlamedaCA94501 can you tell me which video that is
AlamedaCA94501 He doesn't do it alone, he just didn't recognise his team in the video
Jack Storm's pieces are much simpler than Jon Kuhn's.
Mr. Storm...how much are these incredible pieces their just amazingly beautiful and mesmerizing. ...I love every single one of them. ..m
Diese Glass-Skulpturen sind so wunderschön. Eine pure Liebeserklärung an das Licht in all seinen Fassetten. Hypnotisch❤
your amazing artist! thank you
Incredible!
Stunning!
I want my mind to be like this glass... Beautiful and clear
Amazingly beautiful!!!
love his work.
Amazing work
Beautiful works in glass
More than beautiful. Deeper than that.
Beautiful!
Wow so cool. Wish i could see that exibition.
