Absolutely sublime, Pierre-Laurent Aimard is a remarkable pianist and a supreme interpreter of Messiaen and twentieth century music with his in-depth understanding of the music and intimate interaction with it. I absolutely love his performances

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieses kompakten und perfekt komponierten Klavierstücks im veränderlichen Tempo mit klar artikuliertem Anschlag und perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Wahrlich intelligenter und genialer Pianist!

I find in most of Messiaen's works two parts: the consonant and the dissonant. The consonant seems to represent divine, powerful, loving and orderly undercurrent through the entire universe, which might be called God, while the dissonant represents variety, uncertainty and freedom (in this case bird sound) that are the derivation/manifestation of God. It reminds me of dominating contrast in physics world between the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics except that in physics world the latter is more like the undercurrent.

Now that’s just pretentious and silly music. There may be artistic merits here, but enjoyable? You kidding yourself.

I used to think like you until I saw Messiaen’s opera St. Francis of Assisi, all six hours of it. With all its weird sounds, I still came away with a transcendental feeling of religious fervor and was profoundly moved once my psyche adjusted to the language of the music. The closest experience is Wagner’s Parsifal.

That's a bit pretentious and silly, what you say ;-) There are so many musics on earth, human and animals. Bali music was one of the inspiration of Messiaen. I am just an amateur of very different musics; from Bach to Stockhausen to Led Zeppelin etc... This music is simply and honestly sublime fror my ears, If you don't like it, don't say it's silly. It's very short view and short mind. Thanks for listening
