Appleby horse fair. A ten hour round trip to see beautiful horses.

Appleby horse fair is an annual event in which the travelling community visit Appleby-in-Westmorland, a quaint village in Cumbria. As Europe's largest gathering, the traditional horse fair was set up in 1685 by a royal charter under the reign of James II.
Appleby horse fair is an important event in the Gypsy and Traveller calendar
as it is a time for families to meet and for business deals to be cemented. Whilst there I witnessed many horses being sold.
I throughly enjoyed my time and was made to feel very welcome by the travelling community and local villagers. I was made to feel safe and would encourage visitors to participate in supporting the annual fair to keep the centuries old traditions alive. I did a ten hour round trip of driving to be part of this event and to see the beautiful horses, although exhausted I was not disappointed.
