“I tried to live my life the best I could. I hope it was enough” Thank you Captain Miller. It was more than enough. So much in fact, that we could never repay you and your men for the freedoms we enjoy today as a result of your sacrifice.
Awesome painting.
"Every day I think about what you said to me that day on the bridge. I tried to live my life the best that I could. I hope that was enough. I hope that, at least in your eyes, I've earned what all of you have done for me" "Earn this"
I am so surprised at the detail this figure has! Tom Hanks would be proud to have this on his desk, no doubt. Great figure.
Too kind! Thank you 👍🪖
for me this is the most epic qoutes in saving private ryan.
“Oh my God, I trust in thee. Let me not be ashamed. Let not my enemies triumph over me.” - Private Jackson
Well, in that case... I'd say, "This is an excellent mission, sir, with an extremely valuable objective, sir, worthy of my best efforts, sir. Moreover... I feel heartfelt sorrow for the mother of Private James Ryan and am willing to lay down my life and the lives of my men - especially you, Reiben - to ease her suffering."
“I don’t gripe to you, Reiben. I’m a captain. There’s a chain of command. Gripes go up, not down. Always up. You gripe to me. I gripe to my superior officer, so on, so on, and so on."
Also, great work on this one again!
Gripes always go up 😅 Love it - great choice. Thanks!
Great quote choice - that’s also one of my favorites!
Favorite quote: “Disperse! You know what to do!”
“Just know that every man I kill, the farther away from home I feel” … Great tutorial. Thank You 😊
oof 🥲 great choice. Thanks for watching
This was the channel that got me into scale modeling! My favorite quote from the film is when that other guy who just so happens to be named Ryan says “So my brothers aren’t dead?!”
I'm so glad to hear it - thank you!! 😁
Great work! “I just know that every man I kill the farther away from home I feel.”
Oof... so rough 🥲
Fav line " there P-51's...tank busters sir ,angels on our shoulders.
"All I know is that the more men I kill, the further away from her I feel". Thank you for the content.
Amazing painting once again!
Not exact as I can remember but "These guys deserve to go home as much as I do. They've fought just as hard."
The movie should be in everyone's collection as much as apocalypse now, or full metal jacket.
"if that earns me the right to get back to my wife, that is my mission" Very, very powerful movie. Love your work
Amazing work, quote: “Tell me I’ve led a good life, Tell me I’m a good man.”
Ooof, heartbreaker 🥲
" The Statue of Liberty is kaput !? , that's disconcerting". Love Captain Miller in Saving Private Ryan . Great job on painting the figure , thanks for sharing.
Haha great quote!
Thanks for the giveaway and the amazing tutorial! I like it when Capt. Miller said, "If Going To Ramelle, And Finding Him So He Can Go Home... If That Earns Me The Right To Get Back To My Wife, Well Then, That's My Mission."
I always loved it when he said he didn’t know if his wife would recognise him.
I will never forget watching Private Ryan for the first time. A line that I always will remember is “It’s like looking for a needle in a stack of needles.” Great job on the figure!
Haha a great choice!
I remember that as well, but even more, I remember the WW2 vets in the audience having severe PTSD attacks. It was utterly heartbreaking.
Great model brother.......God Bless.
Captain Miller..."He better be worth it. He better go home and cure a disease, or invent a longer-lasting light bulb."
I love the movie and watch it at least twice a year. The ending always gets me but what he tells James Francis Ryan rings true in my life also...."earn this".
It’s one word, but for me that one word haunts me. A soldier lies on the beaches with his guts hanging out from his body, he says: “Mama”
He is confused and scared, thus breaking down into a fit screaming for the one who has made those feelings go away in years past, his mama.
On that happy note, exceptional figure Mr. Hank! Always a pleasure seeing the amazing talent shown by your superb videos!
Oof.... so, so brutal 🥲
I've been a subscriber for some time now. Terrific channel. The most memorable line for me, that hit hard sitting in the theater surrounded by obvious veterans of several wars...
"You can tell her when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left."
Your awesome in painting this figure. My favorite Captain Miller statement is when he told Private Ryan to Earn it on the bridge
Hello Hank, great job on the figure. My favorite quote comes from Private Jackson: "Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight". Amen to that brother.
Thanks for this! Having fun with the new Andy's HHQ 1/16th US Infantryman and this is a great inspiration. Favorite Private Ryan quote - "Earn this"
Welp. I'mma subscriber now. Loved that movie, and I really need to work on my paint skills.
Oh right. Favorite quote.
"This is good. Now we gotta surrender our socks."
Haha great choice of quote - and no worries, if you're already subbed, you're good! Thanks for your continued support 👍🍻
Great figure.
“My family is with me today. They wanted to come with me. To be honest with you, I wasn't sure how I'd feel coming back here. Every day I think about what you said to me that day on the bridge. I tried to live my life the best that I could. I hope that was enough. I hope that, at least in your eyes, I've earned what all of you have done for me.” - James Ryan.
The exact quote is a little to long to post here but it starts with captain miller "I'm a schoolteacher." And continuous with him telling about being a teacher and getting back. I think it perfectly shows that this war was fought by men like us who gave everything for the freedome we enjoy in Europe today.
nice!! this is my quote, You can tell her that when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left and I wasn't gonna desert them". greetings from argentina :)
“You can tell her that when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left.” Shows the true brotherhood amongst the soldiers during the war.
"This is great, now we have to surrender our socks" Great job on the model.
Thank you very much!
Their p51s sir. Angels on our shoulders.
Ooof - a great one 🥲
Fantastic figure to paint, well done. Angels on are shoulders
Thank you very much!
“The Statue of Liberty is kaput… that’s disconcerting.”
Great video - can’t wait to paint this one!
Great tutorial!
My favorit quotes:
Private Reiben: "Cap'n didn't go to school, they assembled him at OSC outta spare body parts of dead GIs."
My fav line was: : Hell, these guys deserve to go home as much as I do. They've fought just as hard.
thanks for the tutorials brother!
Great video and absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time. The line that always gets me is Ryan asking his wife, "If he was a good man and lived a good life." Affirming Miller's dying wish that he earned it. The air may get a little dusty at my house every time that scene airs.
Oh man... me too! 🥲
I'm a new subscriber but I'd say my favorite line from the movie would be on the bridge when miller said "earn this, earn it". That quote hit pretty hard
Unreal job on the figure too, looks so much like him
Thank you!
Beautiful work Hank. I grew up on Saving Private Ryan and the movie is the sole reason for my love of WW2 history which got me into this hobby! "Captain, if your mother saw you do that, she'd be very upset!"
Same. This movie started me down the rabbit hole of learning any and everything I could about WWII.
Also, “I thought you were my mother”
I really like your videos. They are very informative. My favorite line in Saving Private Ryan is when Captain Miller says " I thought you were my mother".
Haha great line! And thank you very much - I'm glad to hear it!
Favorite quote Reiben: "You know what that song reminds me of? Reminds me of Mrs Rachel Trubuitz, what she said to me on the day I left for basic." Mellish: "What? Don't touch me."
Well my favorite Quote is of course: Bring the bangalores!
Earn This. Earn It!
Great, simple technique. I think I will start making figures and not just airplanes. My favorite quote from the movie is "I'll see you on the beach". I used it a lot in Miami Beach 😂
"This Ryan better be worth it. He'd better go home and cure some disease or invent a longer-lasting lightbulb or something".😆
So many.
Great figure- you've done it justice. 👍
Thank you very much!
Great tutorial.
As for a quote "Captain, if your mother saw you do that, she'd be very upset. "
great skills thank you .The line when theyre looking back at the beach after the landings "Quite a view isnt it" to be able to grab a moment after a battle and be thankful.
Thank you! And great choice.
Miller, as he's dying, tells Ryan, "James...earn this. Earn it!" I am subscribed Hank. I build aircraft, so far without pilots, so haven't done any figure painting - this would be a good challenge and might persuade me to take the plunge!
Go for it - I think you'll enjoy! Thanks for your continued support 👍
I enjoyed Tom Hanks in this film, I cry every time he reaches up and says "earn it, earn what we've done for you", then the salute. Fantastic job on the figure sir.
The best video I've seen for painting 1/35 scale figures.
Captain Miller saying to Sgt Horvath. " I thought you was my mother".
I really appreciate it - thank you! And great quote 👍
Nicely done Hank!!! As awful as it is my favorite line is "Dont shoot let em burn!!"
I absolutely love this.
My very favorite Capt. Miller quote, " James, earn this. Earn it".
Thank you! Great choice.
Such an easy way to paint. This has been such a "WONDERFUL" guide to get back into painting figures. I've already applied this to a couple of 1/35 and 1/16 scale figures. So far I'm pleased with the results. Still need some more practice.
Hank, Cpt Miller turned out beautifully. I will have to try that MIG wash method on my figures.
My favorite line is: “I told you he was an asshole”. 😂😂😂
"You Earn This" Miller to Ryan
I think one of the most emotional moments is when they are sorting thru the dog tags and the medic notices the faces of the 101st airborne and he goes over to the guys and tells them to knock it off, “the whole god damn 101st airborne is watching you all!” Shortly thereafter they learn of private Ryan’s whereabouts. Excellent work on the figure Hank. 😊
Ugh - brutal scene for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
You make this look so easy.
Favorite quote "Tell me I'm a good man"
A quote i live my life by... "earn this... earn it.." what a fantastic movie. Though the historical accuracy may be a tad off.. the message was delivered ❤️
Fantastic choice!
Damn I always want to paint some figures whenever I see one of your videos! I think my favourite quote from Saving Private Ryan is “you can tell her when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left” that hit hard!
Thank you! And great quote... oof
Life is like a box of chocolates...uh, .....wait - wrong movie. Nice work there, informative as always.
Haha nice - thanks!
I guess my favorite "Captain Miller" saying is at the end on the bridge. Where Captain Miller pulls Pvt. Ryan close and tells him to "EARN THIS... EARN IT". I took this even when I first saw the movie as be the best you can be even from what you've seen here. Sort of a debt that cant be re-payed for the sacrifices that were made.
A great tutorial way of painting figures. Thanks a lot ! I love it !
Wowed by the 5 o' clock shadow, I was wondering how you'd pull that off.
Private Jackson: Blessed be the Lord my strength, who teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.
Thank you so much, I found your channel last year by watching your ten best starter models for beginners video. Now, I've watched every single one! You should make another one of those, by the way. It has a half million views.
Anyway, what i wanted to say was, thank you for getting me into scale modeling. It's a great hobby, and cheers!
"We're in business." to make figures look good and you're teaching us how! Thanks a lot.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it!
"You can tell her that when you found me I was with the only brothers I had left and I wasn't gonna desert them" Great movie ! Awesome job on the figure Hank!
Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.
I'll add just one thing...I served in the Army as a Infantryman and I know just how those guys were trained....
We Infantrymen were always envious of the Rangers and would have loved to have gone into battle with those guys 👍👍👍...
I had a former veteran buddy of mine tell me that he thought that I had earned my EIB, but I kinda got screwed out of it....
I also got asked to join Special Forces during the 1990's by some Army Reserves Green Beret's, but I turned it down because of my ability to keep up with those guys 😂😂😂
One of my favorite parts of the movie was during the landing on the beach scene.
Captain Miller telling the First Sargent "Do you know where we are??" The entire movie was just awesome too...
They actually used amputee's for extras in the movie just for the bodies getting blown away by the mines and bullets, which, by the way was a first in movie history...it added a level of experience that was unmatched even to this day...
I’m already a subscriber. Favorite line is “Let ‘em burn”!
"I got ankles like an old woman" lol another great video!
Haha great choice
Nice job on the figure. Favorite quote - gripes go up, not down, always up. Words to live by in a typical office work environment.
Definitely!
I want to thank you for this video. I followed your steps, and my figure on the 1:16 Sherman Easy Eight came out great! Unfortunately, the Dark Wash you referenced from Sprue Brothers has been sold out, and Amazon doesn't have it listed, but Tamiya Black Panel Liner worked out - in my opinion anyway, great!
Great video!
CPT Miller: “Is that a souvenir Corporal?
CPL Upham: “uh no sir.”
CPT Miller: “Take your time corporal.
Haha forgot about that one! Great choice 👍
"can I take my typewriter sir."
Captain Miller presents a small pencil 😂
Would love to see the whole squad walking down a road in this scale. All spread out, kind of tactical, to fill a bookshelf. Your work is awesome.
Ooh great idea - thank you!
Great job with the figure, Hank! I'm always a little skeptical watching your painting process because it's so remarkably different than the techniques I use, but your finished product always looks really good. As for my favorite line from Saving Private Ryan, that's difficult because there are so many, but I really like this one: Sgt Horvath - "Captain, if your mother saw you do that she'd be very upset." Cpt. Miller - "I thought you were my mother!" Perfect illustration of an effective and trusting relationship between a company commander and his first sergeant. 😉
Haha great choice!
Great work Once again Hank!
I really like your techniques and appreciate you sharing your work ❤😊
Thank you very much!
Great job, nice to see a methodical and yet simple approach to figure painting.
Favourite quote has to be; “ This Ryan better be worth it. He'd better go home and cure some disease or invent a longer-lasting lightbulb or something.”
Thank you!
Hell, these guys deserve to go home as much as I do. They've fought just as hard
Great choice!
Complaints go up, not down... Great work
Looks amazing, makes me want to get into figures, and my favorite quote would have to be “Sometimes I wonder if I've changed so much, my wife is even gonna recognize me whenever it is I get back to her, and how I'll ever be able to tell about days like today.”
“Don’t shoot, let them burn” thank you!
I am a WWII buff. It started when I was a child. My grandfather was an Alpino, one of Italys specialist commando corps that were stationed in the Alps. They could climb and ski, and were expert marksman’s and scouts. They were also experts in subterfuge and infiltration, conducting many of their missions behind enemy lines. When Mussolini came into power my grandfather defected to the partisans. He wouldn’t serve under a dictator. With the partisans he conducted many operations behind enemy lines. He would sleep in the attics of partisan sympathisers during the day and then venture out at night. He conducted operations as far as Yugoslavia and Russia. He was my hero. His brother was caught and killed by the nazis. My grandfather was too intelligent and wiley to get caught. When German soldiers searched house to house he would climb out the attic window and would climb onto the neighbouring building’s roof. He was like a monkey. Man could he climb. I joined the army when I was 17. I grew up without a dad so my grandfather was my whole world. He died a few years after I joined. I miss him everyday. I liked Saving Private Ryan but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it. It’s a hard movie to watch. Especially when you have something to tie it to reality. The number of people that needlessly perished is mind blowing. It’s hard to fathom that one little man’s ideology was responsible for so much hate. The sad thing is, I see exactly the same evil in those active shooters that walk into a mall or shopping centre and gun down innocent people because of their own hateful ideology.
Wow - what a story! Thank you for sharing about your grandfather 👍
Best movie of all time! (Private Jackson :Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.: My goodness and my fortress... my high tower and my Deliverer. : My shield, and he in whom I trust: there you go baby! : Parker get down!) the tower scene! Always was my favorite!
Awesome detail work!!! "we missed our drop zone by about 20 miles, ended up way over by Bumville or some damn place" Ryan Hurst the hearing impaired paratrooper
Oooh a good choice!
Excellent work!
Thank you very much!
Great video can't wait to try your technique, best quote would have to be about I don't gripe to you
Great figure nice work as always as for a quote
Bangalores, clear the shingle.
Ohh good one!! 💣
Great tutorial again, so helpful!
Any chance we get to see an update on the RT Diorama anytime soon?
My favorite quote must be: “Earn this! Earn it!”. Short, but powerful.
Looks great! Keep the sand out of your weapons, keep those actions clear & I'll see you on the beach.
Quote: "Maybe I should go up the middle sir. The way you run I don't think so. Maybe I should go left sir. Maybe you should shut up!" Great figure btw.
Awesome tutorial thanks for sharing!
Little help in future painting , when u using small brush like 00 or 000 ad to the mix little bit of retarder. In example when u paint the eyes . Second tip brush motion alwayst start from place when u want to have smooth blend and end in place where paint will be accumulated ( there will be more paint) And when u doing eyeballs , dont make it like dot , try to paint half of circle under the eyelid :) U doing well in this more practice ;p
"Maybe you should SHUT UP?"
no but seriously great job on the model, ive been watching you for a couple weeks now and youre amazing, happy VE day spruesnbrews !
Haha great choice! And thank you very much for your support 👍
Thanks for sharing !!!!
Very good job , love the figure.
Looks great nice work
Captain Miller: Is that what I'm supposed to tell your mother when she gets another folded American flag?
Oof - great one. Thanks for watching 👍
"I don’t gripe to you, Reiben. I’m a captain. There’s a chain of command. Gripes go up, not down. Always up. You gripe to me, I gripe to my superior officer, so on, so on, and so on. I don’t gripe to you. I don’t gripe in front of you..."
This has grown on me more and more as I mature, especially in my professional life.
Oh definitely! I agree 👍
“There’s a chain of command. Gripes go up, not down”. I always remembered that scene when I started my first leadership position and had to remember that I wasn’t part of the same group and couldn’t communicate my grievances with them anymore. Griping down just looks bad.
Great tutorial, Hank! I started watching your vids about a year ago and it gave me that itch to start building models again, brought me back to being a 10 year old kid (I'm 52 now) with the basic Revell models of the day [always planes or tanks...] THANK YOU for reviving the interest in me, I've gone out and purchased loads of stuff like paints, models and airbrush set and can't wait to get started again, perhaps my retirement hobby.
The line from SPR that always puts the film into perspective is when Capt. Miller says to the group: "If going to Ramelle, and finding him so he can go home ... if that earns me the right to get back to my wife, well then, that's my mission." He had just shared something personal (which he didn't normally do) and ended it with his own "thing" that kept him going day after day and drove him to get home. Incredible film.
Hey there - I'm so glad to hear this! Thank you for sharing & I hope you have a wonderful time getting back into building 👍 Enjoy, my friend! 🍻
