I'd just like to say thanks to UltraNSC for his repair vids. I have managed to turn a £30 eBay PS3 that sounded like a jet engine after 5 minutes to super quiet machine that stays on for hours playing games with no problem. I used an art "knife" from hobby craft to take the CPU heat spreader off using the same technique as in this video. Make sure you do the finger nail test first :0)
I did mine yesterday. Great videos you helped a lot a gotta say I was sweating bullets doing the cpu. I did it a little different I used a feeler gauge that I sanded the edge with a dremal. Took what seemed like forever to get it to start cutting the silicone but once it was in it started going easy just went really slow. Did your cooling mods also and speed up the fan. Runs super cool now only 100 degree f coming out the back gaming.
One question. Do i need to remove this silicone around the CPU or i can leave it there and just change thermal compound?? And great video u have my like and sub :D
Do you notice that the RSX chips on the slims have more of the thermal glue or tend to hold better than the fats? I've been able to do 2 successful delidding on a couple of my fatboys, but I had to throw in the towel the other day after attempting it on my slim. It looked like I could see more glue overlapping the chips than I had previously seen on my fat consoles.
Do you know what kind of temps I can expect (PS3 Slim) in modern games if I remove both IHS and fully replace the thermal compound - without drilling holes in the case? Nope another one of mine dead. Was fully working but fans running at 2nd highest setting but not really even blowing warm. After modifying some nail files like in your video I still couldn't cut through the damn silicone. Gave up, reassembled with fresh thermal paste. RLOD. Dead. I hate the PS3 Fat. Sony's worst console ever. I'd be tempted to say if yours runs, leave it alone, you'll only kill it.
good evening my brothers really please I need your help I have a ps3 fat CECHG04 with 2 usb ports which does not start I am looking for where to find its 5volt regulator
Wow. This is much harder than it looks. I have made the tool from the nail file as you have shown. But the gap between the ihs and the chip board is so tiny. And the glue/silicone is very strong on my PS3. My nail file point will just not cut through it. It’s very difficult.
NSC Modz Thanks NSC I did it in the end! It took a lot of effort, heating a little bit, doing some more. Heating a little and doing some more. Etc. I wish I could post a pic, but the cell chip has almost no thermal compound left!! Unbelievable. If this PS3 works after being that way for so long, I will be amazed. Edit: I think my PS3 cpu has been de-lidded before as hardly any silicone on the board. But I have also noticed a scratch on the board holding the chip. Not rebuilt yet, but could be fatal for my PS3. :-(
hi, I have done replacing the thermal paste on both gpu's and cpu's die but i still get this overheating warning then ps3 shuts itself down, any help will be appreciated, thanx.
hello friend, can you point which is the most safe method to delid RSX in ps3 slim model 2504. Asking because i have seen the thermic glue on these slims are ultra strong !! i havent seen a clear way to do it without risk the whole console... ?
Yes, it was the FAT, i already did open a lot Heatspreaders, also with a Razor blade, i know what happens when you dont take care ^^ thats why im very skilled, but i realy have open a lots... and its like u told, it is very thing between Heatspreader and CHIP, thats why i did my own tool, so its Faster, Saver and Thiner ;) Peace

damn, nice video. It would have been wonderful if I could have done it right. :P I spent all day working on my 60gb CECH-A01 drilling holes in it, taking off the video card heat spreader, cleaning it, putting on new thermal compound, reflowing it hoping it wouldn't get a ylod one day. Somehow I damaged the damn gpu in the process now its ylod. Perfect! To make matters worse im now living in cebu and there is not one person that can fix it. great!
NSC Modz hello from California I discovered that shipping is going to be too costly for me to ship you my Cech a01.So next l'd like to buy a heat spreader tool when you have time. Thank you NSC Modz
Ok, cool, I have to find tools for this though. fashioning tools is not for me, as it is time consuming. If I can find the proper tools this will be easy for me though.
No need glue again, just let it open. Get the IHS with thermal paste to the cooler with pressure and close it... watch my latest live stream, there i show a lot things.
UltraNSC Hello I think I broke my ps3 slim by trying remove ihs, it turns on about 3 seconds or so and turns right off, and I have unplug power cord and put back in to turn it back on. idk which chip is damaged, would I need a reball or its done for?
If your tool is thin enough, you gonna be able to get inside, normally there is a small space, you need to take a closer look, on the Slim edition it's all very thin and closer...
I opened the ps3 today took the rsx ihs out done everything with care and not forcing anything put it all back on and turns out now this one now has the same problem as my other one and i didnt even opened my other one. I turn it on and it switches off right after. Do you know whats the cause of this? Its really strange.
With this method remove IHS from GPU on my model is just impossible. My PS3 is CECH 2504B. It's look there is no silicon on VRam just some kind of glue, hard like a hell. Accidentally I made a little scratch on chip laminate, close edge. Lucky it looks that GPU working without any issues. I think only hotair is solution for me...
yes, looks like, BUT TAKE CARE AT THE CELL CPU ! ! ! you need a real thing tool to get there inside without to scratch the CPU (CELL) in my eyes its better to open both, so you dont need it to open again if it was not the other Chip ^^ but its up to you, mostly its the CELL CPU, but sometimes its also the RSX GPU i open always both, i begin with the RSX then i go to the CELL Chip! Just work slowly, with Pacience and with A LOT care at the CELL CPU !
Hey do I made your nail file tool do you think if it can delid the southbridge on a junk ps3 mobo with no scratches that it can also delid the cell cpu Moved it sorry a bit tired tonight :)
my ps3 is now 6 years old and never have taken the chips off have replaced the thermal compound on the ps3 but the fan still turns high and i use a custom fan i have a slim ps3 runs 71c-74c somtimes higher and i am using a custom fan thats the CELL/CPU and the RSX/GPU runs at 44c-50c
i put brand new artic mx-2 on the ps3s i downgrade but my ps3 the artic mx-2 seems too not be working but i dont want too risk fucking my ps3 by doing this as its my baby CECH-2004A 6 years old was 120GB hdd now 500GB hdd custon fan and your cooling mod on it xD

Hey Nsc I really need your help,I got a ps3 jailbreaked it and it was working just fine but the fans were spinning high,so I opened it and tried to remove the ihs and well it didn;t go to well when I opened up the rsx chip I chip a ram chip and I thought well I could just get somebody to solder on another gpu then I tried to remove the cpu ihs It was too scary so I stoped. Then I looked on the motherboard and I saw two small capacitor missing. What I am asking you is can you solder on really really small capacitors and can you put a another gpu on the board
trying to remove RSX plate right now, but razor blade wont go any deeper than 3mm, how long i should be heating IHS with hair dryer (i doing ~20 seconds of heating) and it dosent seem to do much, besides making too hot to toutch with bare skin.
never mind, needed atleast 1minute of heating with hairdryer to even loosen up RSX glue/thermal paste. Tryer to cut 2 corners, but remaining 3 acces points were horrible, so just heated up bit more and used lift force and it poped nicely and now my finger tips hut like crazy from pushing that razor around. CPU was easy once i got right thikness of fingernail file (its around 2~3/10ths of a Milimeter) now waiting for thermal paste to arrive and hope that i havent damaged anything as i have yet to complete many games on that console.
*update* the MOD was succesful, my ps3 is no longer in jet mode, keeping ~50c on both rsx and cpu while in iris man EDIT: after playing game for couple of hours CPU was at 61c RSX 69c, meanwhile fan was spinning at low rpm and couldint hear it if i was focused on game. Before MOD temperatures were oddly ~70c CPU, RSX ~65c and fan spinning really loud. P.S. at first i forgot to put HDD back in since i had cover on i thought i already did that, and when i launched ps3 i had black screen and panic attack, only realised that iam not hearing HDD start up and saw it laying on my work table Q.Q
Hej man, Im having a hell of a time doing this- can you find a similar fingernail file online? aliexpress, ebay or something? I've been trying files that Ive found in local shops, and none can even get under the top CPU top metal pad
My fingernail (it was really old one too) file was similar to the one used in video. If it dosent fit, all you have to do is sand it more with rought sand paper (i used 200) then use 1000 grit sand paper (or higher) with water, before trying to fit it under IHS. Mine dint fit first 10 times too. The tip has to be around 3 times thinner than middle part of file, so it goes into CPU space without any force needed. Here is my file imgur.com/SVD8PFa used extra tape for grip. And here is blurry side view for reference of thikness imgur.com/JtqEvPg
Hey bro, I'm watching your videos so much on last week cause I want change the thermal compound under the CELL's IHS. I have been monitoring the temps on webMan and I realized that CELL is 75-78º C while the RSX is 52º C (with fan on max). Change the thermal compound under the IHS could solve my problem? Thanks for all your videos, you are helping a lot of people. Hugs. Excuse my bad english :)
Nice one, but im not pretty shure , what my fat 80gb ps3 must do, it runs perfect until i start playing game... then ps3 goes off itself and red light is gone aswell, then power off and on red light is back . turn on goes well untill again start playing game.. maybe u know something? i did reapplying thermal paste on heatsinks, but still same... can you help out?
I got a lot Videos where you can see that it works :) I'm not the guy that is cheating on you people. But if you are new on my channel then i can understand you xD
NSC Modz delid viedo, all the procedure explained very well and then bam, video ends and makes you think...did that console turned on afterwards? That’s all I am saying.
NSC Modz I never said I did not trust you. I am fixing PS3s myself and I know what you are doing is right I am only poiting out that if you show the end result it be more satisfying to watch your videos. Consider that.
Brüder. I applied new thermal paste on my ps3 (just on the heat spreader) and nothing happened, still 74C CPU. Rsx is fine at 44-48C. I will try to apply on the inside after im done with your tool, what scares me is what should not be scratched? The silver chip or the greens around it? Danke!
Hi, hopefully this video will help me fix my ps3 slim. Is this the same for the ps3 slim chips ? I went to do a normal thermal paste maintenance and after replacing the thermal paste and closing the console the fan goes crazy in 5 seconds, its all full speed then the console says the ps3 is overheating But the chips are not hot at all. Maybe I need to remove the IHS and reaply thermal paste under it ?
Ok thank you! I'll do it when I have time and patience. Also, about the haters just ignore them, I bet most of them wish they knew half of what you know. Keep the great work :D
Just a quick question. Before I found this videos I tried so many times to mount the heasink that the screws dont screw anymore I need another heatsink. Do I need an heatsink for the exact same model (CECH-2504A) or any CECH-2xxxx will work ?
my fan on my ps3 is wired to a usb power source so the fan is actually not connected to the ps3. my ps3 thinks its overheatting but really it is not. if i do this method will it stop my ps3 from turning of on me and stop it from thinking its overheating?
You will need to remove the IHS = HEATSPREADERs = those Metall plates, and under there you will need to add new Thermal Compound... But i recomend you to watch some more Videos on my Channel about this, because it Looks easy when i do it, but its not that easy as it Looks like xD For the CELL CPU you will need also an extra thin tool, otherwise you will destroy your CPU... Without a great tool "CPU Cuter", the risk to damage it is High! So take care and get some more imput on my Channel, here you will find a lot stuff about nearly all PS3 Problems xD
so i need to use thermal compound?. because my ps3 turns off on me because it thinks its overheating but really its not. where can i get thermal compound from. i live in australia.
I was only able to take off 1 of the chips to replace the thermal paste now my ps3 won't read discs it just freezes when I put a game in it I can't even open up RUclips did I mess it up or did something else fail help!
+UltraNSC I fixed it I guess I set it up wrong when I put the time zone or something after that there was an update for the PlayStation store and everything worked fine after that but it still overheats when I play ps3 games in it
Whatever. I'll buy a new mainboard. Then i'll put the new cpu and gpu in the old mainboard with a reballing, but this time i will let this work do by an expert,,Thank you again for helping me
wait, so did u open this 2 Heatspreaders or not??? a reball or heat up the chips can help, but oly if u have destroyed nothing... What did u do? tell me... so i can help u more

Man I did a PS3 super slim the other day it was the oddest layout mobo I’ve ever seen there were no IHS’s, it had a PS4 sized main chip that could not be delided now way it was soldered to the board, the RSX chip was really tiny and there was only two ram chips next to it not 4 was weird I had read about them but though it was BS it was one of the very last PS3’s to be produced, my ex-wife stole my PS3 Fat *( 60gb originally )* non backwards compatible
@@NSC-Modz So can i ask you if the ps3 super slim ihs is tighter than the other two models? I'm planning to heat up the thing with a hair dryer and then use dental floss to remove it. What do you think?
You don't even need to delid a super slim, the IHS is soldered to the CPU and the GPU does not have one. Just stop what you're doing that will destroy the console. Terrible advice from NSC to delid this. Super Slim consoles have a smaller RSX and cell revision + a power supply that produces less heat. They RARELY overheat even on old thermal paste.

u tried to open the CELL CPU or the RSX CPU? and witch blade did u use??? it musst be a very slim blade, or u can destroy your chip, so if u tried to open it, and if you have also put inside the blade, then maybe u have realy scratch the CPU :( it just can be that problem, im nearly 90% sure... seems like u scratch the CPU? did u get IN the blade between Heatspreader and CPU? if yes, then u maybe realy have scratch the CPU = Contact lines damaged = YLOD sry also for my english...
i need to see a pic or something, but if you still got them, then u can sold it back yes ;) If you dont got the same ones, then try to buy the same with same capacity :)
Do I have to reflow it too? My ps3 keep saying it's overheated but I change the thermal paste like 3 times. Or do I have to open the chips and change the paste?
Hey forget about that first comment I made.I saw in a video you have a lot of spare motherboards.Do you mind sending a motherboard to me that you don't need?My ps3 model was a cech-h01 My motherboard version was a DIA-001.
Under the gpu and cpu of my my ps3 there is thermal paste t under around the edges and I recently reapplied thermal paste a week ago (fans really lound system going hot ) is the thermal paste under cpu/gpu the problem?
hey dude! i have the same problem! my ps3 fan is running high and when i feel the air of the fan is always cold! what do u thing is the problem? i want to try it but i think is not normal the playstation warning me about overheating and when i touch it is cold! i want ur advice first
sounds like u need to change the thermal paste also on the Heatspreaders. you can first to let the console run open, open the Case and let it work while the Case is open, if it gets better then u just need to do some holes on the Case like on my other Videos. BUT if you open the Heatspreaders, then TAKE CARE! Cheers
Hi dude! When i tried to remove ihs from rsx but i scratched plate that rsx sits on, do i killed my ps3? I tried to boot it without TC but got Green-Beep-Red-3 beeps-Flashing red.
UltraNSC Well fuck, i thought that ~75C (both rsx and cell) is too high for phatty and tried to remove ihs but fucked up. Better send it to master like NSC and pay than kill ps by urself guys.
hi it turns off cause the Chips GPU&CPU gets to hot... befor u do this, try to run your Console OPEN, open the console, and try if it works longer, if yes, then u know it runs hot... If its so, then u can first add new termal paste, and make the holes for better air flow... if it still keeps to turn off, then u can try to open the Heatspreaders, BUT TAKE CARE and work SLOWLY with Time and Pacience! Cheers
thank u man tell me if i can replace new CPU if i destroyed the original one of course the same model rebuild new CPU after i destroyed the original i mean dos it work man ?
I put this vid in my ps3 playlist!I ruined my first ps3,A01 japan model.Sanded down a pair of tweezers I split open.Guess I didn't sand it down enough, literally chiped the cpu. I think ill feel a lil more confident when I try again since watching this.Got another a01 coming in the mail lol.Since these models are the oldest I think they most likely will need it done. That hs/cpu gap is a true bitch! That damn heatspreader was so close to the cpu,I couldn't see the adhesive.Wish their was a alternative to this adhesive bs
UltraNSC I sanded down a scrap piece of a scraper set I had.Was perfect angle!I had it so thin that it broke off a couple times lol.But I was able to get cpu's ihs off this time with no damage at all,not even a slight surface scrape!I used a hammer with it & very gently kept tapping through every side.I think next time ill just get a nail file, would have had it done alot faster.
Yea ,a nail file is realy just perfect for that ;) My best tool ever that i did for the PS3, and also the best method ever for this Job xD Nice that u got it done perfect ;) Regards
Should I do this!? My 40gb fan doesn't get hot, but turns off after u turn it on like 2sec. Months ago I had to keep pressing the power button until it would turn on! I'm tired man...then like in an 1hr it would turn off..If I wanted to play the next day again...on certain games why does it turns off!?? In the menu I'm okay..

Perfect! To make matters worse im now living in cebu and there is not one person that can fix it. great!
So do you offer or sell
The board or ps3 upgraded? Good video but I just trashed mine...oops...hit a diode...won’t power on .
Hello I just sell finished consoles :) You can try to get the diode soldered back with a good soldering iron, but you need good skills.
NSC Modz hello from California I discovered that shipping is going to be too costly for me to ship you my Cech a01.So next l'd like to buy a heat spreader tool when you have time. Thank you NSC Modz
UltraNSC So, you remove everything from under the IHS, I presume? Thermal compound will bond when it cools down afeter first boot up.
yea, and add NEW thermal compound...
Ok, cool, I have to find tools for this though. fashioning tools is not for me, as it is time consuming. If I can find the proper tools this will be easy for me though.
That glue on the sides….what to replace it with? (Not thermal paste..but that glue on on of the IHS)
The Ps3 slim I have does not have an opening as you described, It is sealed all the way around. What would you suggest I do?
you need a real thing tool to get there inside without to scratch the CPU (CELL)
in my eyes its better to open both, so you dont need it to open again if it was not the other Chip ^^
but its up to you, mostly its the CELL CPU, but sometimes its also the RSX GPU
i open always both, i begin with the RSX then i go to the CELL Chip!
Just work slowly, with Pacience and with A LOT care at the CELL CPU !
Hey do I made your nail file tool do you think if it can delid the southbridge on a junk ps3 mobo with no scratches that it can also delid the cell cpu
Moved it sorry a bit tired tonight :)
my ps3 is now 6 years old and never have taken the chips off have replaced the thermal compound on the ps3 but the fan still turns high and i use a custom fan i have a slim ps3 runs 71c-74c somtimes higher and i am using a custom fan thats the CELL/CPU and the RSX/GPU runs at 44c-50c
i put brand new artic mx-2 on the ps3s i downgrade but my ps3 the artic mx-2 seems too not be working but i dont want too risk fucking my ps3 by doing this as its my baby CECH-2004A 6 years old was 120GB hdd now 500GB hdd custon fan and your cooling mod on it xD
at last you will need to open it one day, otherwise it will get to hot and you will get your first YLOD
:( yh but i will need to go buy the special stuff you have the liquid pro and im scared incase i fuck my baby up i bought my self another ps3 and repaired it and downgraded it too 3.55 but im selling it as i need money atm my ps3 is running AT CELL IS 73C and RZ is 50C also this is a PS3 SLIM i have
yeah, but normaly u will not need to use the Liquid Pro ;)
YH u want too do it i have everything except liquid pro but im scared incase i fuck it up
hallo...ich entresere mich fur dass cecha 01- decha01 ps3 mit ihs remove (mit thermal combackt)wie fehl kossten nach gricheland zum seken ...mit fazan
CPU was easy once i got right thikness of fingernail file (its around 2~3/10ths of a Milimeter)
now waiting for thermal paste to arrive and hope that i havent damaged anything as i have yet to complete many games on that console.
*update* the MOD was succesful, my ps3 is no longer in jet mode, keeping ~50c on both rsx and cpu while in iris man
EDIT: after playing game for couple of hours CPU was at 61c RSX 69c, meanwhile fan was spinning at low rpm and couldint hear it if i was focused on game.
Should I remove other IHS? Model A01's chip for hdmi?
No, the CELL and RSX is fully enough :)
+Onfocus Man Hi Bro... Yes, the problem is "under" the IHS :) But take care on how you open it, because it looks easy on my Videos, but it´s not
It seems easy indeed but I'll take care rsrsrs. Thanks for all.
np :)
you did it? worked?
Sorry, I didn't. I'm afraid of damage the console.
Nice one, but im not pretty shure , what my fat 80gb ps3 must do, it runs perfect until i start playing game... then ps3 goes off itself and red light is gone aswell, then power off and on red light is back . turn on goes well untill again start playing game.. maybe u know something? i did reapplying thermal paste on heatsinks, but still same... can you help out?
seems that ist overheating...
Oh what to do if you have no gap to start cutting sillycon ?
Over witch model are you talking about?
I love how none of the videos will show you if the console actually works afterwards or not. Just in case.
All good man :)
@@nothingandmore please watch also my newest videos about that, and if you like i can record you some proves of you don't trust me...
NSC Modz I never said I did not trust you. I am fixing PS3s myself and I know what you are doing is right I am only poiting out that if you show the end result it be more satisfying to watch your videos. Consider that.
Tried this today, my nail tool broke while cutting and i scratched the board :( Game over I guess
Hmm make me a pic and send it on my WhatsApp, so i can take a look. Or just uploaded and send me the link
Whtsapp would be better. Can you give me your number so I can add you? Thanks
@@HBC26 take a look on my RUclips Channel, there you gonna find it ;)
Alright, will do
Found it! Already texted you
Brüder. I applied new thermal paste on my ps3 (just on the heat spreader) and nothing happened, still 74C CPU. Rsx is fine at 44-48C. I will try to apply on the inside after im done with your tool, what scares me is what should not be scratched? The silver chip or the greens around it? Danke!
Hi ^^ You will need new Paste inside the IHS and put it on the DYE the Silver one xD
but u will see where the ols paste was ;)
Hi, hopefully this video will help me fix my ps3 slim.
Rinriku21 >Maybe I need to remove the IHS and reaply thermal paste under it ? > Y E S :)
but take care :)
Ok thank you!
I'll do it when I have time and patience.
Also, about the haters just ignore them, I bet most of them wish they knew half of what you know. Keep the great work :D
yeah, i just ignore them till one Limit, if some People pass this Limit, thei get Fucked ^^
Wish you the best bro. :)
Yea, the Problem is "under" the Heatspreader, old Thermal Compound
so if i just remove all the white stuff my ps3 wont think its overheating and turn of on me anymore?
You will need to remove the IHS = HEATSPREADERs = those Metall plates, and under there you will need to add new Thermal Compound...
But i recomend you to watch some more Videos on my Channel about this, because it Looks easy when i do it, but its not that easy as it Looks like xD
For the CELL CPU you will need also an extra thin tool, otherwise you will destroy your CPU...
Without a great tool "CPU Cuter", the risk to damage it is High!
So take care and get some more imput on my Channel, here you will find a lot stuff about nearly all PS3 Problems xD
so i need to use thermal compound?. because my ps3 turns off on me because it thinks its overheating but really its not. where can i get thermal compound from. i live in australia.
also would it work if i just took it of and not re applied thermal compound?
I was only able to take off 1 of the chips to replace the thermal paste now my ps3 won't read discs it just freezes when I put a game in it I can't even open up RUclips did I mess it up or did something else fail help!
+Fried Souls This Kind of Problem dosent happen because of this ^^ How are the Temps, and wich Chip have you open?
+UltraNSC I fixed it I guess I set it up wrong when I put the time zone or something after that there was an update for the PlayStation store and everything worked fine after that but it still overheats when I play ps3 games in it
Whatever. I'll buy a new mainboard. Then i'll put the new cpu and gpu in the old mainboard with a reballing, but this time i will let this work do by an expert,,Thank you again for helping me
wait, so did u open this 2 Heatspreaders or not???
a reball or heat up the chips can help, but oly if u have destroyed nothing...
What did u do? tell me... so i can help u more
How the heck did you lay that board FLAT??? What about the prongs for the PSU at back??
all no Problem if you have done that thausend times xD
holes in the table! xD
a lot ^^
happy new year, nimo :D
Happy New Year to u 2 ^^
can this also cause a ps3 to very sudenly start runing slow? cuz mine does that and high reving fan.
This is the reason why your fan turns very loud, but a slow runing PS3 is mostly a HDD issue.
@@NSC-Modz thank you I'll need to look into that as well
@@NSC-Modz luckaly I have one I can use from a PS3 I got forparts. The HDD and everything else in that one looks to be in almost new condition so the HDD suld be fine
can you post a picture of a ps3 CPU without the shield so i can see the traces to the pins?
Hey NS© I've been looking your videos of how to open the IHS from the CPU on my ps3 but still I'm a bit nervous I've been practice on old Pentium 4 and old AMD chips I removed the IHS and the pc's are still alive but still I get nervous allot when I try to work on the console.
I've was thinking if you could qualify my attempts on the old Pentium 4 and the AMD chip I think is the same glue on both of them
yeah, on the PS3 you need also to take a lot more care if you did it not so many times ^^

Im just wondering, what thermal paste would you use for the cpu and gpu? Could you use arctic silver 5 or something??????
I know, I'm 7 years late but yeah, any thermal paste would work. I'm going to use arctic mx 4 thermal paste
Yeah, right 😆
are the Heatspreaders removed at both chips?
seems like the console is geting to hot still, or maybe some flux was not cleaned right...
Man I did a PS3 super slim the other day it was the oddest layout mobo I’ve ever seen there were no IHS’s, it had a PS4 sized main chip that could not be delided now way it was soldered to the board, the RSX chip was really tiny and there was only two ram chips next to it not 4 was weird I had read about them but though it was BS it was one of the very last PS3’s to be produced, my ex-wife stole my PS3 Fat *( 60gb originally )* non backwards compatible
wow Your ex sucks... the PS3 Super Slim has only the CELL with the IHS
@@NSC-Modz So can i ask you if the ps3 super slim ihs is tighter than the other two models? I'm planning to heat up the thing with a hair dryer and then use dental floss to remove it. What do you think?
@@jamespatrick686 you will need a great tool like i use, otherwise it will be a pain in the ass...
They RARELY overheat even on old thermal paste.

u tried to open the CELL CPU or the RSX CPU? and witch blade did u use??? it musst be a very slim blade, or u can destroy your chip, so if u tried to open it, and if you have also put inside the blade, then maybe u have realy scratch the CPU :(
it just can be that problem, im nearly 90% sure... seems like u scratch the CPU? did u get IN the blade between Heatspreader and CPU? if yes, then u maybe realy have scratch the CPU = Contact lines damaged = YLOD
sry also for my english...
u will need to find PERFECT the same one... and when u can let reball that all, then it could be posible... but without garantie that it will work...
i need to see a pic or something, but if you still got them, then u can sold it back yes ;)
If you dont got the same ones, then try to buy the same with same capacity :)
Hi i wanna know where i can buy ps3 motherboard for cecha01 please let know thanks
eBay...
@@NSC-Modz thanks appreciate it
@@NSC-Modz i watch your RUclips videos i see u fix ps3 i have one with the yellow light u can help me fix it

I used to did it with carpenter's chisels :P
As long it works, you can use all ^^
why u remove the gray silicon? you only want change the paste when u do that
You can removed it, but you can also let it, it's up to you ;)
I found all of i need to do on your channel, you are fucking awesome man.Good work.
Do I have to reflow it too? My ps3 keep saying it's overheated but I change the thermal paste like 3 times. Or do I have to open the chips and change the paste?
this Problem is mostly the CELL CPU, so you will need to open the CELL IHS and apply new thermal compound
yes, for the CELL chip u need a great tool, that u should do your self, or better dont try to open it :P
Cheers
Just done this but I think I may have damaged my board..
Hey forget about that first comment I made.I saw in a video you have a lot of spare motherboards.Do you mind sending a motherboard to me that you don't need?My ps3 model was a cech-h01 My motherboard version was a DIA-001.
This idea does not work with the PS3 slim model cech 2004b
it works Perfectly also on 2004 models xD
Under the gpu and cpu of my my ps3 there is thermal paste t under around the edges and I recently reapplied thermal paste a week ago (fans really lound system going hot ) is the thermal paste under cpu/gpu the problem?
no, the Problem is INSIDE the IHS, the Thermal Compound there is old and bad... so you will need to open the IHS!
Mostly it´s the CELL CPU
Where can i buy that thing for nails that women use
Hi, could I break the soldering while Im trying to remove IHS?
+Onfocus Man yes, you could... thats why take care
Thanks. I will do.
hey dude! i have the same problem! my ps3 fan is running high and when i feel the air of the fan is always cold! what do u thing is the problem? i want to try it but i think is not normal the playstation warning me about overheating and when i touch it is cold! i want ur advice first
your Problem is under the IHS
Whats that mean? What i have to do?
the same as i did ;) cut the CPU IHS and aplay new thermal compound there ;) but be carefull
Ok mate i will try it and if i know something i will inform u :)
roger that ^^
how on earth can i cut chips and know i'm not damaging them ?
i mean you applied force very much
How often do you suggest changing this?
Ones it was removed you just need to apply new thermal paste all 2 years is ok.
sounds like u need to change the thermal paste also on the Heatspreaders.
you can first to let the console run open, open the Case and let it work while the Case is open, if it gets better then u just need to do some holes on the Case like on my other Videos.
Hi bro... i think yes... as you scratch the CPU it´s mostly over
UltraNSC
Well fuck, i thought that ~75C (both rsx and cell) is too high for phatty and tried to remove ihs but fucked up. Better send it to master like NSC and pay than kill ps by urself guys.
75C on Idle is to high.... and yes, better send it to me so i fix it :)
So it is possible to replace broken rsx? Or better buy a new one? Btw, i can send my ps3 with damaged rsx as gift if u want (PS3 FAT CECHH-04) :)
i dont know how much the Shipment would cost. and it´s always better to get a good used one, befor u pay a lot for the repairs
Great video. God Job men! Thanks.
Thank you very much, you welcome to my YT Channel, i got also a newer video about the IHS, so take a look on my Channel if you need some more info :)
Heat spreader is removed from rsx its a fat 40 GB i dont think its flux i think its the scratch on rsx chip
hi
it turns off cause the Chips GPU&CPU gets to hot...
befor u do this, try to run your Console OPEN, open the console, and try if it works longer, if yes, then u know it runs hot...
If its so, then u can first add new termal paste, and make the holes for better air flow...
if it still keeps to turn off, then u can try to open the Heatspreaders, BUT TAKE CARE and work SLOWLY with Time and Pacience!
Cheers
hmm im not sure... i would not try to ue this smds from an Notebook, i have a lot parts, let me see what i can do...
Is it ok to spread the paste on the chips with a card?
thank u man
tell me if i can replace new CPU if i destroyed the original one of course the same model
rebuild new CPU after i destroyed the original i mean
dos it work man ?
CPU cannot be changed, you will have to get a new motherboard or PS3 console
I put this vid in my ps3 playlist!I ruined my first ps3,A01 japan model.Sanded down a pair of tweezers I split open.Guess I didn't sand it down enough, literally chiped the cpu.
I think ill feel a lil more confident when I try again since watching this.Got another a01 coming in the mail lol.Since these models are the oldest I think they most likely will need it done.
That hs/cpu gap is a true bitch! That damn heatspreader was so close to the cpu,I couldn't see the adhesive.Wish their was a alternative to this adhesive bs
thats why your tool needs to be very thin, so that it gets easaly inside the IHS
Yea ,a nail file is realy just perfect for that ;)
My best tool ever that i did for the PS3, and also the best method ever for this Job xD
Nice that u got it done perfect ;)

You are a king thanks !
I would really love to hear somebody rap to the beats in this video.
