Nice guide! I never knew cold actually reduces the spawn rate while heat actually makes the chances higher. 400 hours in game and yet I STILL learn more stuff! Good stuff Noobert!
They can really do that now?! That would make bug furnaces useless. Maybe they were spawned through the creative mode as pets just for the video? Technically, it was possible to tame them, in which case they'd ignore the doors
I had a small mountain smack i the middle of my map, i put a corridor though it with the dining area at the open end, anytime in infestation started all my colony stands outside the dining room and shoot down the hall, Many exl quality dining chairs have fallen in the line of duty
Insectoids are such interesting lore faction in the game, but it has like 4 events and only 3 enemies in the game. I hope they expand insectoids in the next dlc.
Infestation quests are just free stuff for me. I have big empty room filled with fire ieds and reinforced walls. They spawn, get cooked and i get payed.
I like to make sure the bugs feel welcome so I keep wooden floors in the caves and to help with security maybe an incendiary trap or two, then i brick it up to give them privacy.
I do the bait cave too but place a critical zone to store a couple of stacks of wood, place an incendiary IED and ban the use of the only exit. Once they spawn, the IED triggers, the wood catches on fire, the trap becomes an oven and in a couple of minutes not even the ashes are left
Even though melee-blocking bugs at a chokepoint is better than fighting them in the open, I think it's still better to avoid melee as much as possible as it can cost your pawn a limb or even their life (especially true against human melee fighters as they can be twice as powerful as bugs!). So here is what I propose: -a base design with long straight 3-tile hallways (3x30 tiles each) which maximizes your shooting advantage -providing shooters with weapons like assault rifles because of their range, armor penetration and rate of fire -putting steel spike traps here and there in the hallways (alternatively) -luring the bugs to your killbox traps -taming wargs, bears or a similar beast to use as tanks Other tips that might be helpful when dealing with bugs: -provide melee fighters with weapons whose armor penetration overwhelms the Megaspider's armor -cool down your hospital to 1C (or less?) so that the bugs are less likely to spawn harm your pawns more. Compensate the temperature with beauty
Melee block like there's no tomorrow and keep your workshop cool relative to yuor decoy room so a hive doesn't burst out from under your fabrication bench if you're running a mountain base.
I had an idea of making a wood store room with vents connected to all areas of base. This will be made next to base entrance and flush everything out as your colony escapes
3:20 I think you mean hypothermia, such happens at low temperatures. They are *not* immune to HYPERthermia, also known as heat stroke. I killed a fully spawned out 60x megaspider colony with a big room full of flaming hay that way 😏
This should've been mentioned, but after bugs deaggro from infestations, they won't return back to their hives, if they were busy beating up your walls. Where they deaggro, they'll consider to be their new hive location, hovering around there, and occasionally mining into your base's walls, just like they would if they were on Hive Expansion duties. This can prove especially problematic if there's a bug that was already injured to the previous event that drew them to your walls, and the bug falls over to bloodloss while all of the other bugs are hovering around your perimeter. They'll be able to punch your walls for much longer before deaggroing, and your colonists will have much less time to actually get to any potential breaches and patch them up before something much worse happens.
Writer here, this was not how they behaved in my testing whatsoever. Furthermore, the wiki also states that they will return to their hive after losing sight of hostiles, did you perhaps test this with mods installed?
views dont appear until people leave the viewing session so its safe to assume people have not finished the 9 minute video 2 minutes after it posted XD
Hey if you're trying to set up some vanilla insect jelly/meat farm, and get a quest that needs you to kill an infestation, do you just need to kill the new hives or wipe the map clean? 🤔
Absolutely love the content, but you are so quiet. Can you boost your mic? Even at 100, ambient noise is drowning you out (it's easier to turn you down than it is cranking you to past 100 somehow)
Ive done a lot to remedy this a few projects ahead atm so there is maybe 1-2 more videos with some audio issues but the mechanoids guide coming sooner for example ambiguous amphibian helped me figure out how to balance that crap the pther day. I said ambiguous my audio sucks so bad hellllllllllp xD
Honestly I've hated infestations since the day they were introduced and just make a custom scenario where the events never spawn. Much more enjoyable game without them
Gah, bugs. One other bonus to insect meat? You can use it with haygrass as a cheap way of making Kibble for your animals, and thus much more efficient than just feeding haygrass.
Other than learning how to control the spawn chance I didn't get the info I wanted. How do you dirty up a room/location to ensure bugs will spawn there and nowhere else? How do you make those remote fire starters to kill the bugs? What's the best equipment to deal against bugs? (Armor, weapons, traps, walls)
Bugs will spawn in dark and warm environments, but there are no ways to guarantee that infestations will spawn in a room outside of completely freezing all the other rooms to under -17C or 1.4F. As for fires, there are no ways to remotely light things on fire, but a good strategy is to light a pile of stools, chairs, wooden floors or anything flammable with molotovs and run. As for the equipment ,we have a guide in the making to explain what the best equipment is in where / why to use it, so stay tuned for that!
With vanilla mechanoides expanded there’s this thing that nullifys melee damage which I used to surround a infestation said mod also adds a auto butcher that turns them into good meat TLDR my colony runs on bug meat for only the power needed to heat it to 90 degrees
4:56 it's not really a good idea to numb the pain because the pain can down your colonist right before it gets a lethal blow. Instead, you should rely on at least three melee fighters but if you only have one and it's downed, have a shooter with the best melee skill stand in their place
thx,idk why but when i went on a crater my wall burt and there were like 99999 bugs behind the wall in an area thath wasnt discorverd by me yet,i was wondering why lag
You can craft them at a gestator, assuming you have a mechanitor, which can be rarely found through ancient complex and on your starting map. All you need to do is beat up the ancient mech with a blinking red light.
