      Love your channel but to be honest, unless you are in the room I left the video playing, up until the PRS tones it sounded basically the damn same all the time. Which is good enough.
      How loud was it? Up until one point, electronically, the power amp takes over and then it's fuck you preamp lol or whatever mods it has in that section.

    If you are fortunate enough to obtain a clean unmodded example of an old JMP 2203, the only thing to add is a good ole' Boss SD-1.
    I remember going down the road of modding my 2204 to hell and back, and found that it was best in stock form. Happy days!

    A great M/V JMP is a truly great amp. My drummer has a nice late-70's 2203 he'll never part with. It has been through so much and finally given some TLC and sounds amazing. They are still relative bargains on the used market, but I have a feeling that will change. Wonder why Marshall hasn't had a reissue of these, since they do sound a bit more aggressive than the JCM's.

    Less than half a year ago I finally acquired a 1977 JMP. My dream amp for so long. Electronics all bone stock. No holes, no mods. Had Svetlana 6ca7s when i got it. Retubed it. Had it looked over. Best amp ever! Playing it through an Atlas 4x12 with v30s and Greenbacks in an X-Pattern. Through a Fryette Power Station. Yes it sounds amazing. Power station allows me to turn the volume to 6 and with the gain at 6 as well its more than enough gain for that growly raunchy marshall growl! Boss sd1 and a tube screamer sometimes join the party and yeah its basically all this amp needs.

  • @Robstafarian

    I see your point in the conclusion, but Steve Fryette is absolutely everything to me after the 2203. The VHT/Fryette Deliverance does everything I wish the 2203 would do (very much including the dual gain knobs).

    • @LeonTodd

      I've only tried the Deliverance module but it is a thing of beauty. Steve knows how to voice an amp.

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 10 месяцев назад

      @@LeonTodd Steve's major contribution is distortion with little to no inherent compression (the famous "dry" gain). Truly dynamic high gain is glorious, and so many players (including Paul Gilbert) are unaware the option exists.

    Really cool demo and great playing with very appropriate song choices. I am quickly realizing that this era of 2203/2204 Marshall amps may be the sweet spot of the entire Marshall amp lineage. It's the most versatile having the best characteristics of both Plexi and JCM800 amps. I'm totally with you thinking that this amp doesn't really even need any mods as it is damn near perfect completely stock. The JEL mod seems to tighten the sound a little by cutting the low frequencies and boosting the upper mids, treble and presence a bit making the amp more aggressive. It is more noticeable then the Jose' mod which seems to just increase the gain a tad while goosing the presence. I didn't really care for having both mods on at the same time as it was a little too much and sort of overkilled the sound. Great call on the "Warren Mod" comment and "laying down" some killer Ratt!

I’m liking theJEL mod though. Saw you at Yngwie gig. Was right up the front. Your playing and Tone was articulate and not shrill. Seems like we have same taste in amps. Have '77 and '78 2204s. They're really sensitive to pick attack, so you can be super expressive just from that, but with all sections contributing to the distortion you get this really jangly but heavy tone I've never heard from any other amp. You sure it's stock 2203? My 70's JMP 2203 has 2 inputs, I thought the 4 inputs were 1959 circuits?

      It's a 1959 that was converted to 2203 spec.

    Legendary amps, but unfortunately, the true magic of these old Marshalls only happens at 120+ decibels !

    Its a cool item to have. Its not going to be the difference between a record deal or not.... a good song or a bad song..

    Sadly not for me. I was hoping I'd get to hear some awesome tones. I can't say they're bad, but I guess maybe my tastes just don't line up with this.

    Sounds amazing! I have a Friedman modded JCM 800 Reissue and it’s one of my favorite sounding amps. Modded Marshall’s are the way to go.
