Sounds killer. I picked up a 1979 2203 last year. I added a hot mod v2 and it sound amazing. I tried the hot mod in a super bass and didn’t care for it, almost old the hot mod, glad I kept it.

@@cragginshredtook me awhile to really enjoy Marshall’s. Mainly a 5150 or Rectifier guy. Now I’ve got a handful of 70s Marshalls. If you’re able to push some air with them, they’re amazing amps.

    Hi
Just curious if you've tried this module in your Soldano SLO ?? ... as I remember you have one & saw some of the excellent videos you made on it.
I have a SLO 30 head and am thinking whether it would be worth spending the $$ to intall a MR Scary module and will it make a worthwhile difference in tone in an amp that already sounds pretty great ?
    Thanks in advance!
    ...Tom

Hey Tom, thanks! E-mail David from Legendary tones. He would have to do a special set up for the high gain amps. To answer your question I have not tried it and no longer have the Slo amp. Honestly finding the right pedal to boost it would likely be better but David will tell you there is less noise going the extra pre amp Mr scary method. Last thin I would add is I was using the Boss Sd-1 which adds treble and cuts bass so I would try a different pedal into the front. Hope that helps! -Don

@cragginshred Thanks for the honest feedback Don 👍
Yeah I have a few good pedals on my board that I could use as a signal booster. Yes they all add some level of noise to the overall sound unfortunately but that's to be expected when you hit the front of the signal chain with a boost pedal. I may still give the Mr S a go as I'm thinking it would also help tighten up the overall tone as I've heard in other demos.
Will email them to find out a bit more before committing.
      Cheers! 👍

Great amp, I gather this was the precursor of the Marshall JCM 800?
    Nice playing.

Sounds great especially with the Scary mod!! Check out "Ground Zero Ampworks modded JCM 800 1959 non-Jose version'" One of the best high gain Marshall mods I've ever heard.

How does the 800 compare to your JEL-20 which sounds killer with the buxom boost.

    • @cragginshred
      @cragginshred  9 месяцев назад

This is a JMP not an 800 and it is a 100 w head with heavy transformers so no 20w on the planet will sound like this. Picture a jet engine next to a lawn mower :)

My bad sorry about calling it an 800. I understand it’s a 100 watts to a 20. But damn you have an amazing sound coming from your JEL. IMO your JEL sounded every bit as good, at least through the video’s. Thanks for the reply. Love your videos they’re the best on RUclips.

Did you part with the Kitchen Sink & the Wizard? I’m trying not to go further down the rabbit hole again but it’s a new year!

Exactly! Still have the Wizard for now. Sink has been gone for a bit

Ah, I get it! I’m deciding when to send my Friedman BE-100 Deluxe out to Dave for a custom mod or two. Between what my expectations are for that and what I get out of the Mezzabarba Trinity, I hopefully will be good for a while…this time.

For what it's worth, I have the Hot Mod Evo V2 I'm using on a Little Sister, and it sounds spectacular. And, they'll modify it for the smaller chassis for you, as well. I've never heard this sound bad on a Marshall circuit. But, only on the newer Hot Mods (IMHO). The "v1" versions don't sound this tight. The new one's are a amazing, and replace a lot of OD pedals. There's a big misconception, though. they don't add gain per se....they not only tighten the gain up, but make it REALLY percussive. Like Don said here, MAJOR crunch. That's the biggest issues with today's amps. MORE than enough gain, but very little punch, and articulation. This just crushes that problem in spades. 👍

Wow……that made a HUGE difference. Btw, that doesn’t sound modded to me. It has that stock looseness. But, holy sh!t, did that Hot Mod make a huge difference. I wonder what the sound difference is between the one I have (Hot Mod V2 EVO) and this one. My Little Sister responded exactly like yours did (cool acquisition btw…was surprised to see you playing a Marshall). It didn’t add more gain (I didn’t need, nor want, it), it just tighten the hell out of hit, and made it spectacularly punchy and percussive. So, now I have a one channel low wattage amp that goes from JTM style super warm cleans to early EVH. I dealt with Dave, as well. He modded mine to fit the smaller chassis. Best invention on the planet for us guys looking for that punchy, percussive, super tight, crunch from Hell. Single-handedly the best thing I’ve done for my tone, and I no longer use my Tumnus, or Buxom Boost. It seems to turn any Marshall style circuit into a majestic beast. Come to think of it, Don…if you haven’t seen it, check out Dave’s video of where he’s demo’ing the Hot Mod EVO on a JCM2000. It’s absolutely stellar, and RIGHT up your alley (I thought of you when I saw it), and what led to my purchase, after talking back and forth with Dave on that very video. Great post!

Thanks buddy!! Good to know. Well I have been chasing this tone forever, then the words that have been uttered to me over and over kept coming back 'Why don't you just get a Marshall' ?? The question was which one to get?? Well thanks to Zen tone guys and Dave Friedman and the find of the century -a bastard ized classic one that has a loop added, new tubes and from a shop i can trust!! Thanks for your post and on going encouragement Phil!

@@cragginshred 👍 Will be interesting to see which way you go with this head. That HotMod launched it into beast mode. But, I'm not 100% certain it beats your other high-end, heads, either. But, there's something incredibly cool, and inspiring, about having a Marshall stack behind you. 🤘
