Hi Roman! just want to ask what is the max chainring size I can upgrade to Trek Marlin 5? Does 40T will fit or even 38T? Please advise and thanks for your help.

i did a similar thing last year to my marlin 5, (1x10), swapped the square taper for an octalink version and matching cranks but i had an issue with chain line and crank chain ring size, seems i'm stuck with a 32t on the outer fitment for the chainring, the gap between the chainstay and chainring is very small so can't fit a bigger chainring.
Yep, I think, it is maximum, but for daily use suits

@@totoxahc hello. Unfortunately I cant tell what exatly it was, brother of friend of mine bought groupset, all was in set, so I think it was sram nx. Chainring whatever you want. 32-34teeh, it think, depends on frame sizes

I don't know, what bb size was, you can watch your bike bottom bracket size in bike description. Hub was original

You have to change hub, if yours is 7 speed, because it can handle only 7speed cassette. Maybe even better if you change whole rear wheel, something better than original to handle New torque and extreme uphills and downhills

Hello! If you have 8 speed hub, no peoblems with Upgrade up to 11speed cassette, if have 7 speed, so need to change the hub.

@@Valuiskihh what side is your rear break lever on.. The Marlin 5 sold in America is a 3 x 7.. 2021 and back years as well.. the frame will not except no more than a 10speed cassette, its only 135mm drop out ..
@@mtbnomadsouthsideant7909 hello. In Europe we have rear brake on the right side, as normal People :) Yes, 7speed hub can handle only 7 speed cassette,as I knowt. Also saw, how People made 135mm wider with some tools 👍Maybe you search in internet for this option. If it is possible, maybe change rear wheel or just hub for 142mm

hiya sir i have a trek marlin 5 2021 model it's brand new i want 2 put a single crank on thefront i would like the 11 speed at the back i have 9 but that's enough most of the 6 like per day i do it all hills so I need them.low gear and the down till I don't need any years or foot work at all ..thankyouav got my fingers crossed seen as I are a small youtuber like me i may get a reply also plz I wanna do it as cheap as posible no fancy stuff like you've installed looks brilliant i must say but I am just very basic but I have to say for all my life the single crank just makes that bike look like a top pound bike just with that simple single crank adjuster am I am home sun aswell m abey i can get some tips from you..anyhow hope to hear back from to if not it's fine i understand..take care i don't no if my name comes up i went on Google to look for a 3 crank 2 1 crank and it dusnt look like my normal RUclips i wil.get us name and put it in on my proper Facebook my yt account is under eye gunk pull its just about u eyes

Marlin4 2022 shows 7/8 speed, it is possible to put 10 speed without changing the hub

I would like to ask about the tires max upgrade. For the marlin 5 2022 without changing the wheel set, i prefer schwalbe, i do light trails and some heavy trails sometimes. Which tire from schwalbe i cam use and to what size?

i cant tell you what size tires is maximum, you can watch it in bike description on website. best option is to watch tire reviews on what tire for what purpose

I had opinions from people that they wanna make their Marlin 6 or 8 with a derailleur instead of single to 2x12 or 3x12..
what is better considering speed.. 1x12 or 2x12 or 3x12.. I mean having a bigger crank and bigger cassette is better ?
12 speed doesn't really go with 3 speed crank

at that moment it was stock hub. if you go with 8 speed hub , you can fit 11 speed cassette
How is turning a 24 gear bike to 11 gears, an upgrade?
The reason why it's an upgrade is mostly because of the front being upgraded to one sprocket unlike the 3, which are really noisy, heavy, and just not that consistent, so on front it's an absolute upgrade, and for the back, he has more gears to use and more of a ratio which could make it easier for him to climb and probably go quick too, and you also have some extra gears in between which can do a job really well, so yeah, pretty much an upgrade

Yes, if you go racing, but for casual consumer it is a great opportunity to tune bike, make it lighter and simplier for service. Depends on what sprocket you put in front
@@Valuiskihh it is less gears to worry about. I guess it comes down to what u using the bike for . I have the Giant stance 29 and really like the 1x12 setup . That’s why u need at least 2-3 bikes lol

2. marlin 5 to 1 by 11
The 6 definitely, because u don’t need to replace the rear wheel like u would on a 5
Depends on what wheels you have. We didn't change rear wheel, it has 8 speed hub. If you have such, so no difference I think.
Some marlin 5s are 7 speed some are 8 (in the rear) the 8 speed ones don’t require new hubs.
i paid 35$ CAD for a freehub body on my 7s, will probably upgrade into a 10 or 11 later on. just message trek about it they will fill you in

I guess, if you have rear 135mm hub, so 8+ speed cassette won't fit even with new hub. Best way is to vist bike forum, unfortunately I can't tell you with 100% confidence, what modifications need to be made to fit 11 speed cassette on this bike, coz bike of my friend already was 8speed and 142mm rear hub.
Quick search on the net told me that there are 135mm qr rear hubs for 8-11 speed cassette. So, won't need to make anything with frame, but cant tell about derailleur hanger, maybe it has to be changed. Try to write to trek official retailer for more info, I think they have answer for this 👍

Hi , sorry for not responding, youtube doesnt send me notifications. you need to find your model with year on website and you see, what type of bottom bracket you have. due to it is not my bike, and passed much time, i cant remember, what type it was with what dimensions, but you can go with same size BB (bottom bracket) and buy whole set of bottom bracket and cranks

i cant tell you 100% , you need to tach for components, but definately can do 1x11 if you have 8 speed rear hub

If your hub is 8 speed or more, it is capable. If it is 7 speed, need to change it

Hey bud, have you tried replacing the fork? I want to stick a tapered fork in there but I don't know if I can change the headset since its "semi-integrated"
If your bike has 1-1/8 fork, you can't fit tapered fork unfortunately. Otherwise geometry will be very different from originaal, which is bad for bike
@@Valuiskihh haha the geometry is fine but what you're saying is you can't take the headset off? The frame fits a tapered fork. You can put a 130mm fork on the marlin 5 and it'd be okay.
@@MidWestMTB you can take headset off, but if you try to put tapered fork to frame that is made for 1-1/8 fork, you need some voodoo magic to install it. :)
@@Valuiskihh ooh you're right. Stupid trek. Thought it was a tapered frame with an adapter on the fork. Going to be hard to find a good straight tube fork, oh well.
They make straight forks just not rally from major brands

@@aless9965 if you have 8-9-10 speed, so I guess, 10-11 speed can fit. Maybe search in Google for it
@@aless9965 the stock marlin 5 has a 3x7 and is therefore unable to handle any more rear gears. you need an 8+ speed rear hub to go to anything higher. This, however makes the cost of the upgrade not really cost efficient.

@@choyromero8636 Yes, but I think, it is better to replace whole rear wheel due to hub drum (place where cassette goes) is too short, so change hub if possible, or whole wheel. Some DTswiss or sram or shimano have wheels on budget 🤙

Yes, 7speed hub can fit only 7 speed cassette. Change hub that can 100% fit 12speed and no problem

Depends on groupset and shop price. It is friends brother bike, not mine. I think, about 200 EUR.
