The Made in Abyss soundtrack has so many incredibly good songs, unfortunately you probably can't react to them all. Some of the best alongside this one would be "Tozo Hanoline", "Tomorrow", "Gravity", "Transcendence and Hanazeve" and just so many more but I didn't want to make this list too long. You really nailed the feeling of the show (and by extent the anime/manga) in your reaction!
Made in Abyss is a very cool show... It's a very weird and interesting mix of beauty and horror, awe and violence. And the OST does a great job of bringing it all together.
Dude you just opened up a treasure chest full of banger music from Kevin Penkin. His Made in Abyss tracks are like nothing else and believe me this is nothing compared to his later tracks. My favorite track is Juroimoh Mutation which i strongly recommend you listen to.
Practically every song in MiA is beautiful however I’d recommend “VOH” from the season 2 ost for sure. VOH’s vocals are uncontested and is a journey in of itself.

This plays towards the end of the first episode. So I highly recommend watching that at least. One of my absolute favorites from this OST is "Tomorrow" after this one. I... Don't know. I feel like it's making me move forward... Or is making the world move forward... Making my heart beat. Idk if this even makes sense lol. I highly recommend made in abyss by the way. Season 1 - then movie - then Season 2. Well - it's not for the faint of heart so be warned - but it is my one of my absolute favorite work of media or fiction or art or whatever you wanna call it.
"almost childlike, not in a maturity sense, but in a sense of pureness" And you've found one of the key elements of the series. Childlike purity simultaneously contrasted and inseparably blended with visceral adult realism. "the layers of the music" You have no idea how appropriate the word layers is. "suddenly it's very eerie, suddenly it's very odd" And there's the other half of what I mentioned. "and it's kind of become this sort of triumphant ballad" Sort of like it's returning from that period of eerie darkness. "a little toy where you open it and there's like a little ballerina in it and it plays a tune" That's just called a music box.
My personal favorites from the OST are this one, Old Stories, The Rumble of Scientific Triumph, and Eyes of Irumyuui. The whole OST is amazing, actually, but those are my favorites
Kevin Penkin is one of my favorite modern composers, his music is brilliant and makes use of techniques and stylings that continue to impress me and surprise me every time I listen to his music. You've got to check out the rest of the ost when you get a chance, it's full of wonder, beauty, horror and pure terror.
Love the trepidation beforehand into instant appreciation. If you loved this, you've got to check out more Kevin Penkin. I would certainly look at 'Old Stories' from Made in Abyss too ^
The Made In Abyss OST is fantastic as many have said. I highly recommend "Transcendence and Hanezeve" and "Old Stories" as some of my personal favourites, but all others people have suggested in the comments such as "Juroimoh Mutation" or "Prushka Sequence" are also great.
This anime is a masterpiece. Very dark, emotional . You'll be fooled if you think , "Oh there are kids , it must be like Dora the explorer". It'll give you a mini heart attack.
The singer's name is Takeshi Saito and he's worked in quite a few tracks in made in abyss. I would suggest you Rebirth also from the made in abyss ost (featuring Takeshi Saito)
