If you want to read Pluto then I highly suggest reading the chapter of Astro Boy "The Greatest Robot On Earth". It's only like 170 pages, and makes Pluto so much more interesting when you compare the two.

Actually, as someone who hasn’t read that chapter but has read a summary of it and has also read Pluto, I don’t recommend this. It will spoil some of the huge twists of Pluto if you read it beforehand. If you read it afterwards though, that’s fine!

I didn't read Pluto, I watched it, and I cried so much at North Number 2's death, I couldn't stop myself from crying, this story is so beautiful and meaningful, literally in less than an episode I already felt deeply connected with a character that wasn't even that important to the grand scheme of things at all (he could've died off-screen just like Mont Blanc or that scientist that died at his house and the story would advance the same)

I hope since Naoki Urasawa is a acclaimed mangaka it means people will watch Pluto and hopefully we’ll get a new Astro Boy anime and people will FINALLY give Astro Boy the props it deserves. Astro Boy is so incredibly influential on the anime and manga industry yet so few people have ever actually watched one of the series and only know it by name and by Astro himself. If it wasn’t for Astro Boy, the anime and manga industries would be very, very different.

This is how I ended up bingeing it. Opening credits, and my first thought was, "wait, the guy who did Monster has a new murder-mystery thriller series?!? Sold!"
It didn't hit me until they showed Atom that I realized I was actually watching a loose adaptation of an Astroboy 2-parter, one that I definitely watched as a kid.
Rewatching the original, so many of the changes are for the better. Gesicht being the lead character because it's a murder mystery, each bot getting development time through the 8 episodes, and even the villains being quite sympathetic. Oh, and setting it all with a backdrop of a fictionalized Iraq invasion really added so much meat to this story.
Not a super fan of making most of the robots look human -- I think giving more than Montblanc and North #2 eerie robot qualities would've been more to my liking -- but overall the miniseries is so much better than the original.

another good reboot is astroboy 2003, the japanese sub, it a great reboot that i wish you could review and talk about more, because it a reboot that suppose to be the anniversary of astro birthday, also the animacion and character design is amazing, and there develop some stuff better, more of tenma, astroboy past being a mistery and it take alot of the manga. but it do something different.
the anime does have some problem, like the pacing and sometime the anime do take a budget even it close to a big budget anime with 50 ep, but even with the problem, what does right, make me appreciate the anime, so much i think if osamu tesuka was alive, he would said this would be the best adaptation and even sometimes better.
just want more people to khow this anime, it such a hidden gem.

@@KegOfMeat i agreed and dont agreed.
because some stuff of 2003 did better, i felt the character development of astro was much more interesting, especially him finding more details if he past. and the ending felt more satisfying.
but i do think the 80 one has more freedom to do what there want, there could even show death and more sadder theme, the 2003 lower down the violence badly sometimes, it mosly felt like huge plot armour, no huge death or injury. tobio death was kinda cencore in the Japanese version too.
but i think it hard for me to said which is better

It seemed to me that he was going through grief and was coming to terms with the possibility that he isn't really a great guy. "No doubt Tobio... also.... hated me as well..." I read Atom as still learning back then. He's always learning, but you know what I mean. Tenma was fully engrossed in his humanity in that one moment. Freaking beautiful.

So, am i the only one who wants a new Astro Boy anime with the same Osamu Tezuka art style, just with modern animation?
I mean, almost every modern anime has modern art style with modern animation, i want to see how would old style fare with new animation movements.
I mean, 2003 Tetsuwan Atom anime keeps the same style, despite it being outdated by those times. I haven't watched much of Tezuka-based anime, but when i want to watch one, i want to watch the one that has Tezuka's art style.

If you liked the Pluto anime adaptation then you should really check out another adaptation of a Naoki Urasawa manga - Monster. For anyone who hasn't seen or read it that still thinks Yagami Light is a good and smart villain, wait till you get a load of Johan Liebert.

Nah you don’t have to. I do suggest reading the one chapter in the pinned comment because it’s interesting to compare the two
